Had a great experience today! Had shrimp and grits, whiting, Mac and cheese hush puppies. It was all so fresh and tasty. The owner was so sweet. Would recommend and eat again if closer. Prices were very reasonable and love supporting local. Give it a try. Apple cobbler was yummy at home warmed up with ice cream!

Omg stop the press this place is amazing!!! Best idea for Good Friday I ordered the fish, shrimp & lobster tails and these options did not disappoint. I ordered the greens w/ turkey meat , tuna salad with a twist & Mac and cheese with robust flavors all these sides orders slayed the day. The environment is clean & communal. A kind stranger seated next to me shared his chicken wings with me and they were crispy, fresh & seasoned well!!! This black owned business even has a loyalty card program & the staff here is super friendly and explanatory the chef even offered me a free sample

This place is phenomenal!…read more We visited on a Thursday, just after they opened at 11. We were able to find street parking right out front, and order pretty quickly. We got a Dino Rib, Wagyu Brisket, cornbread, banana pudding, key lime pie, blackberry cider, and water, which totaled just under $100. And I will say it was well worth it!! The only thing we probably could have done without was the key lime pie. The employees were friendly and service was quick. The whole place gave instant Texas vibes, even the bathroom matched the bbq style, super cute. We will definitely return again.

We aren't big meat eaters so perhaps might've ordered the wrong things. On the day we came, we ordered the brisket tamale (2 come in an order), an order of the Texas chili (this was the special), an order of the herby potato salad, sweet potato fries, 4 pieces of cornbread and a banana pudding. Ordering these items came to $47. My mom had a Boylan's sweet lemonade and I had a pilsner draft. We sat outside on one of the many picnic benches under a tree and sampled all the goods. Texas chili - this was pretty so-so for me and tasted like spaghetti sauce to me vs chili. It had a bit of a kick to it. I didn't really care for this dish and won't order again. Brisket tamale - this by far was the favorite item for me, however, pretty skimpy on the brisket. Some sour cream and pico de gallo would have been nice to accompany the tamale. Sweet potato fries - solid and tasty but hard to screw up fries really. Herby potato salad - way too watery for me, seemed the potatoes soaked up a lot of fluid and this style of potato salad didn't work for me. Cornbread - solid, no issues there. Banana pudding - pretty tasty, with real bananas and Nilla wafers mixed in and on top. I would come back for this. I deducted one star for some things we sampled that really didn't work. Another star deducted as the prices were higher than what I am willing to pay for given the quality and taste. Overall, a bit underwhelming but also we didn't order items that they are known for. I would come back to give more popular items a try another time.

I ordered a Bahn Mi Rice Bowl and it was delicious with the right amount of spice and seasoning. I was a little worried about the level of chili in the tofu but was assured Franklins typically keeps it fairly mild...and it was. The fresh mint was lovely mixed with the jasmine rice, carrot ribbons and finely chopped mushrooms. The chili peach jam was a perfect sauce. The restaurant has a lot of character with artwork on the walls and lots of booth seating as well as tables and chairs. There is also outdoor seating at picnic tables at "The Hut" and the Quarantiki Room open seasonally. Make sure to check out the store next door, which offers a wide variety of gift items as well as their craft brews.

I am on their email list (and yes I read most of my emails that are of interest to me) and noted they had an Oktoberfest kick off party happening this week on Thursday evening from 6pm -9pm in their outside patio, so decided to come here. We showed up at 6pm on the dot and the place outside was already packed with people. They were having a live Oktoberfest trio band play, so that was cool! A lot of people were in their Oktoberfest garb/outfits, which was adorable. The challenge was getting a beer and a non alcoholic drink for my mom. They had nothing NA for her and she ended up just having a glass of ice water. I got in the mobbed line and had a Kellerbier, which was brewed especially for Franklin's and Oktoberfest. They had an issue with their handheld payment device so that made the line longer. Beer was fine, but wished I could have gotten my mom a lemonade or iced tea. The other issue was the seating. We opted to sit over in the sandbox/kids area and the picnic tables didnt feel like the best use of space. The trio band was lovely and played some nice tunes including Edelweiss which is one of my favorite songs ever (yes I loved The Sound of Music and have watched this so many times as a kid with my mom) but it would have been nice to see the band more in the center of things, closer to the bar hut. They were serving up German sausages and huge pretzels but the line for beverages and food was so long that I didnt bother to purchase food. This was a great idea and I hope that the next one they do, they can iron out some of the wonky kinks. I'd come back again for an Oktoberfest for sure. My mom and I had a great time!

An order includes 2 pieces, each of them a breast & sort of a small leg attached (yes, that sounds weird but it's the best description I can come up with). An order comes with mashed potatoes & gravy on the side + collard greens. We each took one piece of chicken home for a second meal. On the down side, we weren't keen on the fried green tomato appetizer. It consisted mostly of heavy breading. Next time we're going to try the catfish fingers instead.

While our server was great and very attentive, unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. For the evening we tried the Devil Shrimp which is crab stuffed shrimp that came with spinach and mac & cheese. While the stuffed shrimp were delicious the mac and cheese not so much. I hate to say this but it was a step up from box Kraft mac & cheese. The Grilled lamb chops were served with roasted fingerling potatoes and sauteed green beans. While the lamb chops were plentiful and we appreciated that, again the sides that accompanied the dish lacked flavor. To be an upscale Southern cuisine restaurant they missed the mark on some of the staples sides and that was a little disheartening.

And made sure to place an ubereats order both times, so I could fly back home and share this gem with my mom. I promise you, anything you order will surpass your expectations. I didn't get a picture of the fried Oreos, but make sure not to leave this spot without a sweet treat. They have the best bread pudding I've ever had. We were all craving some good Caribbean food, but unfortunately, this experience was really lackluster and did not live up to the reviews The service was frustrating. The girl at the register seemed to be on her phone the whole time, I couldn't tell if she was calculating something or just talking, but she definitely missed the mark on our order. We specifically asked for Steak and Cheese Egg Rolls with no mushrooms. By the time we got home, we realized she gave us Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls instead. They were a mess; sauce was all over the container and the fries, and the chicken inside was incredibly dry and overcooked. Surprisingly, the Fried Rice was really good, which isn't the first thing I'd associate with a Caribbean spot. The Jerk Fried Chicken Sandwich was also a standout and one of the best things we had. Our friends ordered the Rasta Pasta, which was very heavy and spicy, and the Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas. They had asked for wings but got dry grilled strips instead, which was disappointing. My Cabbage and Collard Greens were also pretty average--I've definitely had better. Between the order being wrong, the dry chicken, and the distracted service, it just wasn't what I hoped for. It was an okay meal, but nothing I'd recommend or go back for. Definitely inspect your bag before you leave this place. Sorry about the pitiful picture I was so annoyed and remembered after I made a plate to snap a quick pic.

But we settled on the Deviled Eggs Crispy: topped with fried shrimp and bacon jam. Then for our entrée she ordered the Seared Sea Scallops over Crab Risotto, and I ordered the Braised Oxtails with Chuck Rice & Plantains. All I have left to say is "some good eating". Let me add some of the dishes that others around me ordered looked out of this world as well; Deep-Fried Snapper with African Gravy, Jerk-Braised Short Ribs with Curry Pea Risotto, and Teriyaki Tomahawk with Miso Butter just to name a few, looked amazing. When I looked at what they ordered and I looked at my order I was wondering the same thing for both of us; we are going to need a doggie bag because there is no way we could eat all this food in one sitting. It's bittersweet to see Chef Tobias leave. However, I think I speak for those in the DMV in saying thank you for serving such high-quality food and for being a true beacon in the community. Your restaurant has brought people together, created lasting memories, and made a meaningful impact that will not be forgotten. Though you are relocating to Florida I'm wishing you continued success as you begin this next chapter in another state. The same success the DMV brought you I pray for an even greater level of success in Miami along with the recognition you deserve. In my travels if I'm in Miami, I certainly will look you up. Now, typically I would end this review by saying the next time you're in the area please be sure to visit. But I say this with extreme urgency 'RUN DON'T WALK OR STROLL" because they will be closing after next week.

And to say it was underwhelming would be an understatement. I mean this experience might have been worse than the season finale of game of thrones. My wife ordered the oxtails and green jollof rice. First off, the rice tasted like wet grass. The oxtail was a sad excuse for oxtail. For context my wife is Caribbean so I've had my share of delicious oxtail, their oxtail tasted like they simply didn't even try. Now let's get to my food. I ordered the simplest thing on the menu the Steak and Frites. I'll give it to them the frites were pretty decent, but that's where my compliments end. I ordered my steak medium like a decent human being. The first steak came out and tasted like what I imagine an old used tire taste like, it was well done by the way. The next steak that came out 20 minutes later although closer to medium was surprisingly worse. It's was extremely rubbery with zero flavor. All together I would not recommend. The fact they sell this sad excuse for food is baffling. Sincerely, A concerned customer
