    Crab Eggroll

I really liked what this place is bringing to the area. The food was good across the board and the drink menu is a definite highlight -- great flavors and a real vibe to them. Service was friendly, though they were out of a few menu items. I'll give them grace on that since they're it's a Thursday The space itself is interesting. The ambiance doesn't immediately tell you what kind of food spot it is, which almost makes it better. It feels like one of those hidden corner joints you stumble into and then tell your friends about. Not flashy, but it has character and fits the neighborhood in a cool way. Worth checking out if you want something low-key but still thoughtful. I'll be back to try the things they were out of.

I recently came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised they have happy hour on the weekends! It is a cozy restaurant and I enjoyed their playlist. My only complaint was service was a little slow. I had the dungeoness crab legs with the garlic cajun butter sauce. The flavors of the sauce really stood out and I enjoyed the quality of the crab. The garlic noodles were also tasty and I loved how big the portion was especially for the price. Sometimes garlic noodles can be dry but these were far from it! The drinks were tasty and bartender definitely didn't skimp on the alcohol! I will definitely be back.

If you're looking for a cool spot for happy hour, Shellfish Market is a vibe. I came midday with a friend and we enjoyed their Happy Hour selections. The Strawberry Dream drink was definitely worth it and the bar tender didn't skimp out on the alcohol which was a definite plus! I ordered the Shellfish Combo #2, the Cajun garlic boil sauce is BOMB one of the best boil sauces I've had. My only complaint is that my food was slightly lukewarm, and we were one of two customers in the restaurant at the time so I was expecting a piping hot meal. However, the flavor definitely made up for it. Service was also good!

Saw this spot on instagram and knew I needed to stop by. My wife and I went on a Sunday right when they opened and were quickly seated, Our waitress was prompted and helpful. She offered recommendations and pointed out their happy hour drinks on Sundays. For an appetizer we ordered the Fried Calamari. I really wished this was seasoned. The sauce saved the calamari from being a 0/5. They were really bland. The Lobster and Cajun shrimp pasta was delicious. This came out hot, seasoned and tasty. My only complaint is the tail was still on the shrimp. I have no clue who eats this part. My wife ordered the whiting sandwich. Doesn't look like a sandwich as you put it together yourself but the fish was seasoned and tasty. The fries were salty but I loved them, Overall it's a cool spot in the middle of the hood. Be VERY AWARE of your surroundings. I'll be back to try more.

Where can I start? I saw this place come upon my Tik tok feed and had to try it! We got there on a Tuesday night and outside of one other table; we were the only ones in the restaurant. Sam, the waitress/bartender was amazing! The place is on the smaller side but the atmosphere is lovely. They played a medley of new and old R&B music and had a beautiful cloud installment on their ceilings. On to the food. We ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts (pictured with and without flash) and OH EM GEE! Probably the best Brussels I've had in a long time, if ever. They were perfectly crispy and amazing flavors. The highlight of our meal was the Jerk Thai Fried Rice with Red Snapper. Y'all. The first bite I took was of the fried rice and literally had to put my fork down for how AHMAZING it was. Perfectly flavored and cooked. The jerk had a nice kick to it that wasn't overwhelming or painful but I will suggest that if you have a low spice level, don't get it. The snapper was perfectly breaded, seasoned, and fried and complimented the rice so well. Once I started eating, I couldn't stop and completely forgot to take pictures of my meal. We also got the mac and cheese to go. Also very tasty but it is jerked which I don't think the menu mentions. I would 10000/10 go back and have already recommended a few friends. It is in Ft Totten which, if you're in central DC, is a little far but completely worth the trip.

Been eyeing this place for a little now and I'm glad I finally checked it out. I mean you have to treat yourself. I ordered the salmon cheesesteak and OMG! I was a bit shook at how great it tasted. I can't wait to return and try some of the other options on the menu (especially the shrimp seafood boil). I tried taking pictures of my sub but they didn't do it any Justice. I'd you're ever in the area, please check them out!

Red Snapper with Jerk Thai Fried Rice

The host was amazing; they had the door open to air out the place but later closed it. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable. I'd recommend coming in the early evening for a great vibe before it gets dark because the lighting and playlist were fantastic! Now, onto the food. I was delighted that they took some of my suggestions. The calamari was good, although it needed a touch more salt and pepper in the batter. The crispy fried texture, though, was outstanding, and I truly appreciated that. The salmon bites had a thick batter, and the frying was a bit on the crispy side, bordering on burnt. But let me tell you about the egg rolls; they transported me to the south with their "she crab soup, side of crackers" taste. It felt like I was by the beach on a chilly day, wrapped in a blanket of love, gazing at the sunset. However, the red snapper!!! That jerk Thai fried rice is still on my mind. Please, never EVER CHANGE THAT because I'll definitely be back for more! I'll risk it all with spices, because the burnt booty is worth it!!

    Snapper and fried rice.

Hot toddy - waiter recommended, it's hot and has honey lemon taste like a tea but the alcohol is also a bit strong 2/5 Pineapple margarita - very very strong almost like straight alcohol lol 1/5 Red sangria - super well balanced and fruity! Very yummy 4/5 White sangria - a little bit sharper alcohol flavor and less well balanced but still good 3/5 Embutido Combo - Jamon Serrano, Salchichon de Vic, Chorizo Iberico - I'm not sure which is which so going by the picture left to right. A little spicy, overall good quality but I do think they put a bit too much oil which made it have an extra oil taste 2.5/5 Middle - like prosciutto this is the best one! Not dry at all in any area and not too salty 3.75/5 Right - least favorite but it is still good overall. Taste a little less yummy than the one on the right even though the one on the right is too oily 2/5 Queso Mahon - rich and cheesy. Not too sticky and very soft. I like the little fruit it comes with too 3/5 Seared scallop - usually squid in rice I feel like is just color but this one was super savory and delicious with a unique taste too that I'm thinking must be from the ink! It's made super well and the crispy sear on the scallop adds so much flavor but also the scallop was not overcooked at all, super bouncy and tender. 4.5/5 Spanish risotto - very moist and yummy! Even though it's just vegetables it's made well 3.75/5 Crispy pork belly - falls apart and very tender. Not dry at all! Unfortunately too salty though. Also very heavy. Meat too salty but veggies it came with like potato that soaks up the flavor was like inedible too salty 2/5 Seafood paella - I think it came out a bit faster than 40 minutes but I didn't keep track. Large serving size! Wish there was more seafood but lots of rice! Very moist and flavorful rice, seafood flavor comes through too! Wish they cooked it longer though since bottom is not crispy at all. Shrimp is overcooked unfortunately but individually seasoned. All the squids and octopus don't have much flavor but cooked well and not chewy at all. Mussels were good too but had some weird webbing on some pieces that made me not want to eat it and size is a bit small. Needs more seafood to balance the rice amount 4.25/5 Crimini mushroom - weird with the poached egg especially since there's a bunch of mushroom liquid below that I think would mix weirdly together. But ignoring that, the mushrooms themselves were very flavorful and actually taste really great with paella! 3.75/5 Basque cheesecake - very heavy and dense. Jam is not too sweet which is nice 1.5/5 Churros - very airy and light inside! The fried part is more than double the inside though so wish that was a little less thick so it can be a little less oily but still overall light. Came very warm and the dipping sauces were very liquidy. Chocolate is on the darker side which is a nice match 3/5

I went to Atxondo hoping to taste the work of a Basque chef, and found out that the new chef is…read morefrom El Salvador, but has studied cookery in Spain. After having a full meal with cocktails, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee (about $70 per person), I concluded that Atxondo will be a definite future destination for Happy Hour and light bites, but that my full meal dining dollars will be spent elsewhere. The Patatas Bravas (Fingerling Potatoes) were outstanding, with their two tasty sauces and rich, crispy flavor and texture. The Hibiscus Margarita with its salt and tajín rim was good enough to warrant a second one... but the Sangria was lackluster due to the complete absence of cut-up fresh fruit in my glass. The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. For serious dining, Atxondo falls short of the mark... but for drinks and bar food, Atxondo turns out to be a real neighborhood gem. .

Dinner at San Matteo, yes please and thank you!…read more Good food and service was memorable adding San Matteo to the list of favorites. The front patio is cute and a nice spot to sit on a nice day. We entered the restaurant, pasted the bar and made our way to the back. We were pleasantly surprised with a nice outdoor feeling to dine at. We were immediately greeted by our waiter, given water and warm bread with olive oil. To kick off our meal everyone had different ideas of what they were craving so we went with three starters. PROSCIUTTO E MOZZARELLA for one. It that had the usual meat and cheese board with nuts, mini bread crackers and jam. I liked how pistachio pieces were found in the meats and cheese. [5/5] BEEF CARPACCIO which is a family favorite of ours was a must try. The tender slices of beef with arugula, with sliced capers and celery. It reminded us of our trips to Italy. [5/5] FRITTO MISTO came next. This mixed lite battered bowl of seafood goodness with a little spice delight. It had calamari, fish, shrimp, garlic, zucchini and chilies. I really liked how the batter was lite which says a lot because I love really crispy anything. [ 5/5] On to the main courses, we proceeded with different pasta noodle dishes. BUCATINI BOLOGNESE one of my favorite pasta noodles was my selection. The noodles were al dente and the sauce and meat were excellent. [5/5] PAPPARDELLE CINGHIALE was my husband's pick. The pappardelle noodles were al dente and nicely accompanied the meat with the tasty sauce. Topped with ricotta; the dish was full of flavor. [5/5] CHICKEN ALFREDO was the last pick. Not an authentic Italian dish; however, hats off to the chef for making this for our picky eater in the family. The sauce was creamy and delicious. Noodles were cooked perfectly. [5/5] Surprisingly we had just enough room for a sweet ending - an Affogato. Whoaza! The espresso was yummy; put some hair on our picky eater's chest. It had a hint of licorice flavor that was unique. Let's not forget the San Matteo Spritz. Smoky and highly enjoyable. I loved it and will order again when I return. Overall, San Matteo hit all the check boxes for our lovely family dinner. The staff were attentive and never left us wanting more water, food or waiting long. The food was tasty. It seems upscale with a casual feel. Some people were dressed for date night while others were having a casual meal with family or friends. The seating options of areas were all unique in its own way. Front patio for a nice day, from the front indoor dining area for maybe a more intimate feel, bar and table top area for a drink and appetizer going solo or with a friend; and lastly the back dining area for a a bigger group to enjoy your meal. Mixing up the dining options that suits you. I'll be back to try other dishes.
