Maryland Crab Cakes with Mac and cheese and collard greens
    David W.

While in the area for an appointment I decided to checkout Carolina Kitchen for a quick carry out and I wasn't disappointed as it tasted just how I remembered back in the day. So as i walked in I was greeted by more than one person saying welcome that definitely was nice they even asked if I wanted to taste any of the sides now that's wonderful when you have trouble deciding what you want but I landed on the Mac and cheese with the collard greens and I may say that was a great choice. This restaurant has a wonderful down south feel and you just know you're going to have some hearty soul food it's a great warm feeling. Crab cakes definitely a good! I'll return soon hopefully to sit and eat.

Came here for the first time with a small group of friends. Hubby and I ordered a mixed drink, jerk chicken sandwich, with cajun fries, and blackened catfish with collard greens and mixed vegetables. Total for my husband and I came out to approximately $59 (not including tax and tip). What's Hot - Menu. Good variety, with the exception of vegetarian and vegan dishes, which is addressed below. There are plenty of seafood options, bbq meats, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. - Quality. Pretty good! Their cornbread muffins are so tasty! They're served drizzled with a buttery maple honey, which is unique and unlike the cornbread I've come across in other restaurants. All my food was well-seasoned and not too salty. I tried my friend's mac n cheese and it was delish- good texture and very cheesy. Quality mac n cheese is difficult to find, because you want a good amount of cheesiness that isn't runny. - Portions. Good size portions and enough to get you full on just one dish, not including an appetizer. - Price. Reasonable and good value for money, especially given the portions My blackened catfish was $29, the mixed drink was $12, and the jerk chicken sandwich was $18. - Service. Good and reliable. We asked the waitress for separate checks within our group. She accommodated us and was able to track the different orders within our group appropriately. - Layout. Nice layout inside and good space, especially for groups. On the day we were there, it was very hot and humid inside. The inside of the restaurant had extra fans, which helped keep the inside cool. What's Not - Parking. Because this is located in a plaza, parking can be difficult to find. Be aware there is a parking garage and the restaurant will validate parking. - Menu. Vegetarian options are limited, including for vegans, so just be aware. - Portions. The blackened catfish I ordered only came with one shrimp. Their menu description makes it sounds like it'll come with a few shrimp, so I was surprised that it was just one, so just be prepared. - Quality. The texture of my catfish was somewhat rough and not flaky. Hubby liked his sandwich, but said it wasn't spicy, which was disappointing. Final Answer Worth returning to when I have a craving for southern food.

Nooooo!! This is my 2nd time visiting this restaurant. I will say the 1st time was before covid and the food was delicious!!! This time oh, no!!! Never again! The food was horrible, the establishment has gone down. From the large rat traps directly on the floor. That tells me a lot and it's a no for me.

First, I would like to say Marisol was very attentive and she also makes a great drink! It was so good that I had to ask for her manager Yvette and she was just as friendly as she was! For happy hour, I would not bypass Carolina Kitchen and I will be back!!

A part of a cigar cooked in the collard greens

Unbelievable!! we got food around 3:30 - 4:00 PM today. Brought the food home and my husband went to eat his and found half of a punched/smoked cigar thar had been cooked in his greens!. I called the restaurant and was told it wasn't possible. See the pictures!!!

Carolina Kitchen has been a staple in thr DC area for awhile. This is the first time I did delivery. The food was packaged thoughtfully for delivery, making sure my fried foods wouldnt get damaged. I can appreciate that. My only big grip was that i didnt get gravy with my mash potatoes. If I would have gone in person that would have been an option.

Ordered some veggie sides to go from here and it satisfied my very specific craving for collard greens, black eyed peas, mac& cheese and cornbread. The greens here are smokey and flavorful, not bitter or tasting too much like vinegar. The peas had a hearty broth they were cooked in that was seasoned well. The mac and cornbread rounded out this 3 side entree plate and gave me a great taste reminiscent of home.

Been coming to Carolina Kitchen for years and mostly to this location, with occasionally visiting the DC location. Nice setup inside restaurant with takeout in the front and dine in seating toward the back. Fairly clean. Tables are properly spaced. But, do like to suggest to change out the lighting color, they one they have now makes the entire restaurant looks dull yellow. Food: delicious wings, chicken and cornbread. If you like fried southern cuisine, here is your spot. We like the sides as well: cabbage, rice and mac n cheese are my personal favorites. vegetarian options are limited . They do have salad. Other than salad, the only other vegetarian option will be some of the sides, but do not include cabbage and greens because they are cooked with meats. Drinks: they have a good selection of wine, liquor and nonalcoholic drinks, not an extensive list but good enough, especially given the reasonable price. Props to bartender Kirstin, who s beautiful, friendly and courteous. Service: mostly good, but can be inconsistent, especially since there has some Internal management and staff fluctuation. There are very limited street parkings.Do have a paid parking garage across from the restaurant. Very convenient. Normally cost $4 to park for 2-3 hr. Do recommend by IG @WineDinenVacay

I am a true regular at this restaurant prior to being on Yelp so, this is my 1st time reviewing this restaurant. I have always and will always rave about this black owned business. I have been to almost all of there open restaurants aside from a few new locations. Pros~ The food has always been on point every time I have came to any location. The corn bread muffins are brought out to the table with a buttery cinnamon glaze which is super sweet and delicious. I typically get a fish which could be salmon or catfish either fried or blackened. The sides are always bomb starting with the Mac and cheese, collard greens, sweet potatoes and potato salad. Yes, I order extra sides every time I go. Cons~ For this particular visit the service was just ok. The wait staff appeared to be very tired. I didn't see the familiar staff I have been use to seeing during my visit Dawn who would come over to our table for conversation. The major turn off for me was the paper print out menus. I did not like it at all because they were easily getting wet due the drinks sweating. The font was different sizes so it was very difficult to read. Some items were not available during dinner time but, it was not listed on the menu to reflect that. Overall, I am pleased at the growth of this restaurant chain with different locations including one much closer to me being built in Owings Mills. I have always taken friends and family to this restaurant because I enjoy their food so much. I will definitely return and hope the minor feedback is addressed.

I order from this location frequently and I do enjoy their food. I decided to try something different and use their catering services. They were offering different catering packages for thanksgiving holiday and I chose the silver platter which feeds 15 people and it included a rotisserie turkey, Mac and cheese, greens, yams and cornbread. My pickup time was Wednesday 11/23 @ 11am. The pickup went smoothly, I was in and out and the staff was very pleasant and even helped me take my food to my vehicle. What I didn't do was check everything to make sure all items were correct. I was so caught up in the smooth transition I failed to check. After arriving home I discovered I received 2 trays of yams instead of a tray of greens, so I had to go to store and purchase greens. The food was good and my family enjoyed the meal and we had a good time. I contacted Carolina Kitchen Friday to explain what happened. Let me say that Yvette I think she may be the manager but she worked with me from start to finish with this order and was very accommodating with my needs. She apologize and offer me several different options as to how I can be compensated for the missing dish, I chose the option to receive a credit so I will be visiting soon to get more food. I will definitely use their catering services again in the future for another event. Next time I will check all dishes before leaving to make sure everything is there.

It was my 1st time visiting, my friend recommended it because it used to be one of his favorite soul food restaurants, so I decided I'd give it a try since I was craving soul food for a minute now. The atmosphere was very relaxing and not too loud. Getting a place to sit was not an issue since we usually would sit at a bar instead of an open table. I requested an orange juice "was too acidy". Ordered an Old Whisky Martini "was good" Had shrimp appetizer "was ok", cornbread appetizer "was ok", I had spicy chicken with rice, " which was okay but could use some more seasoning & the chicken was a little bit dry" Mac & Cheese was a 6/10, and mashed potatoes were a 6/10. My friend had chicken wings along with mac & cheese (not sure what the ingredients in the wings were), he ended up having a bad reaction and ended up with swollen feet and hands. After meds and resting he is doing a little bit better but has a slightly annoying stomach pain. Overall, I'll say 4/10. I'm sorry but the only reason I didn't give a 1star is because the server "Kiersten" gave excellent customer service. The prices are ridiculous

Take out today-- My family member told me that her job catered their Juneteenth event using Carolina Kitchen. She said the food was so delicious that the pans of food were eaten quickly. This made me think that I will be passing there on my way from the office, so I decided to stop by and pick up dinner. I am so glad I did. We ordered two meals; however, I only had time to take a picture of one. All of the food was delicious! I need their recipe for baked macaroni and cheese. Although, I like my macaroni to be a little bit more firm, I still give theirs five Yes, 5 stars because it's cheesy with a good quality cheese and it's flavorful. The collards are done right with great flavors; not too soft and and too firm. The yams apparently were a hit and not too sweet. Now if you like sweet that carrot cake icing is beyond sweet. The portions were large and I was only able to consume 1/4 of my plate, so there are leftovers for tomorrow. The service at the counter was prompt and friendly. Thanks Carolina Kitchen, you did your thing today.

The Mac & cheese is bad & was not made good, meatloaf is okay. The green collard greens is not good either my plate over all is a 2/10. The service was weird the workers there act super weird & the place looks old & outdated.

We specifically asked for Steak and Cheese Egg Rolls with no mushrooms. By the time we got home, we realized she gave us Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls instead. They were a mess; sauce was all over the container and the fries, and the chicken inside was incredibly dry and overcooked. Surprisingly, the Fried Rice was really good, which isn't the first thing I'd associate with a Caribbean spot. The Jerk Fried Chicken Sandwich was also a standout and one of the best things we had. Our friends ordered the Rasta Pasta, which was very heavy and spicy, and the Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas. They had asked for wings but got dry grilled strips instead, which was disappointing. My Cabbage and Collard Greens were also pretty average--I've definitely had better. Between the order being wrong, the dry chicken, and the distracted service, it just wasn't what I hoped for.
