I was craving some dessert on a Sunday in St. Augustine, and finding parking can be a nightmare at most places. So, I looked for a spot I knew would be easy to get in and out of on my way back to my vacation rental. I found Luli's! It was this cute yellow building on San Marco avenue with a nice little porch where you could sit and watch people go by while enjoying your treats. They had a bunch of stuff like macaroons and cupcakes. I grabbed a couple of macaroons and a cupcake to go. The macaroons were $2.50 each and super good - I got lemon and chocolate, both really fresh. The chocolate cupcake was probably big enough for two people and cost $4.50. I always like to try and support local businesses, and I really enjoyed what I purchased at Luli's Cupcakes and Bakery. read more

Stopped in at this small bakery located in an old home on the outskirts of downtown St Augustine while shopping in the antique district. Upon entering we were greeted by a small well kept interior that contained a few small tables, a glass display case complete with whole cakes and an espresso machine. Due to the small size of the interior, you will have to wait your turn (unfortunately for me that involved waiting behind a loud, inconsiderate family who was ordering cupcakes but the owner did a great job with them). Once it was our turn, what started as a coffee run turned into an afternoon snack for my wife and I. The display case was full of cupcakes, brownies, cinnamon rolls and whoopie pies (cookies with icing). We opted for a chocolate chip cookie whoopie pie, a small coffee (I ordered drip but the owner made me an Americano), and a water. The whoopie pie was large and amazing tasting. It is a simple looking but decadent dessert. We had to use a knife and fork to eat it. The coffee was rich and had notes of chocolate. We opted to eat outside on the porch at a two person two top elevated table bc the weather was so nice. After you get pizza at Borillos you have to check out LULI'S on the St. Augustine strip. The seating area is pretty large to meet some friends and have a giant cupcake and nice coffee. We pulled in on a whim because we were in need of a sweet baked treat! We were welcomed by a friendly mother and son duo who helped guide us through their baked confectionary goods. Their shop is quaint and cute! We tried several cupcakes and they were ok. I would not go back for the cupcakes, but they were a good frosting to cake ratio if you like a good buttercream! What is going to bring us back is the cookie sandwiches! OMG! We really liked all the cookies; chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal. Haven't been here since before Covid and I was disappointed to find out it has changed hands. They used to sell "day olds" for a few dollars off and don't sell that anymore. They have this massive cookie sandwich that looks like it'll give anyone a stomachache-just not appetizing. We were invited to a couple's house for dinner. This couple recently moved to St. Augustine. We were in charge of dessert and thought it would be fun to try something, that neither of us had had before. I took a look at the options offered and emailed the night before to be sure I could guarantee the flavors that I wanted based on the time we could pick them up. I did not want them to run out. I emailed and had great back-and-forth correspondence with the owner about what we were looking for and what our options were. The pick up was flawless and very friendly. Very cute shop! Presentation was perfect. Got exactly what we ordered and were given instructions to make sure we kept the cupcakes refrigerated based on some of the frosting types. Presenting the cupcakes upon our arrival was well received. I will admit hors d'oeuvres, appetizers, a full meal and cocktails could have had influence on my overall consumption of dessert. Now you're probably wondering why I gave three stars. I truly found the cake to frosting ratio a bit odd. There was way more frosting than cake. To the point where we were all scraping off frosting to eat our cupcake. I imagine the cost of managing a cupcake shop has pretty low overhead in the fact that you are making cupcakes and frosting, but it must be a lot cheaper to cut back on the cupcakes and add additional frosting. With this said, the frosting was delicious however, the cake portion was a bit dry. I guess what influenced my decision most to give three stars is that our new friends only ate a half of the cupcake each and made these comments and then they sent us home with the leftovers because they commented they wouldn't eat them. Now they're in our refrigerator, and I will not eat them. My husband, however, said let's keep them around. I might have another one. I can't say we would go back or make the recommendation going forward. read more

Delicious cupcakes! Our family bought five different ones to share the evening of purchase and we loved all of them. I took away one star because we bought some cupcakes to-go for family, were told they expire in "about ten days" (they come compressed in a sealed plastic container- see pic), but when we got home today we unpacked the cupcakes and noticed an expiration date sticker for 5/7 (we bought them on 5/4). So, we were sold cupcakes that weren't fresh and told we had well over one week before they expire, only to discover that they have maybe three days until expiration. We bought them for family members that we won't see until on 5/9. It's safe to say, we won't be gifting these. Soo beautiful looking cupcakes. My friend got a dozen for a birthday and obviously got multiple flavors for us all to try. The frosting on top was huge which left hardly any actual cupcake. The frostings were delicious, but they are rich and sweet and definitely gonna raise your sugar levels. You literally can cut the icing off the top and eat it with a fork. The cupcake part wasn't actually very much and sadly wasn't as flavorful or moist and we ate them just a few hours later. I think next time I would want to try another bakery and see instead. I wanted to like this place, because the vegan cupcakes we got for my birthday last year were delish, BUT - the experience we had with my son's first birthday cake was HORRIBLE. In short, they messed up the cake and refused to acknowledge anything was wrong with it or apologize or try to make it right. They blamed it on us! Here's the story. We requested a small 5-inch dairy-free cake for my son's first birthday. This was a virtual party due to COVID; he hasn't gotten to meet most of his extended family this whole past year. We were really looking forward to the cake being the main activity for the virtual event - family members could sing happy birthday and watch him try his first taste of cake. The whole time my mother (my son's grandmother) communicated with the bakery, the woman she spoke with never told her she was the owner. She said they could make the cake and would try to write the happy birthday message on the top, but with vegan frosting it was difficult. We brought small jungle animal cake toppers and asked them to use their best judgement which ones would best fit on the small cake. They assured us they would make it look great, by choosing a frosting color to match the cake toppers we brought. On the day of the birthday, my mom went to pick up the cake and it was SO. TALL. It immediately started to topple over before she was able to get out of the store. It didn't even fit in the bakery box they put the cake in, so it was open the entire time my parents transported it the hour drive to our house. Additionally, it was a bright green color that made it look like a leprechaun's St. Patrick's Day hat. They didn't write Happy Birthday on the cake, just my son's name. They didn't event ATTEMPT to put any of the toppers in the cake (most of which were tiny cupcake toppers which would not have overwhelmed the cake). No apology whatsoever from the bakery owner, who made the cake - she just told my mom that she probably transported it incorrectly! My mom told her it was falling apart before she even was able to get in the car. The vanilla layer of the cake were so dense we needed a butcher knife to cut through it. My mom had to do surgery on the cake to take the bottom half off just so we could put the toppers on and present it to my son to sing happy birthday to him. I've included pictures of the before and after the "surgery." We saw numerous small cakes on their website with beautiful frosted messages. Even if they were unable to put the whole birthday message on the cake due to it being vegan, they could have AT LEAST put the toppers on - we were able to put one in with no trouble AFTER we cut off the bottom layers of the cake. What makes this all worse is that there was NO apology by the bakery owner at any time, no admission that the cake didn't turn out well - just an assumption that we "transported" it badly. This was such a disappointment for my son's very first birthday - his very first taste of cake, and the very first time many family members were getting to "meet" him virtually. You've made a family extremely disappointed in the quality of your work for our beloved son's first birthday experience. He may not remember it, but we will. Even though we're limited in dairy-free cake options around here, we won't be going to your bakery anymore, and we'll be telling all our friends the same. read more

I can't say enough good things about this cupcakery! 1- the coconut cupcake is heavenly. If you like coconut, it's the best thing on the menu. There is coconut in the cake and on top of their perfectly sweet traditional buttercream. It's so so so so good. Everything else is also tasty! The icing is all the perfect traditional buttercream texture, homemade and sweet without being too sweet. The strawberry also has strawberry emulsion in it which is delightful! I'm not a chocolate girl so I can't attest to anything chocolate, but the ladies I was with liked all 6 that we tasted. I wish I would have had room for a broader tasting as it was all phenomenal. I look forward to coming back in fall/the holidays to see what epic seasonal flavors are next. We came for a wedding tasting and Brian was fabulous emailing/coordinating with us in advance and again in person. This is a small business thats a little on the outskirts of the bustling square, buts is much more than worth the find. Since its Christmas and I'm deprived of gingerbread, i went for the gingerbread cupcake. Oh my god,amazing! Possibly one of the BEST gingerbread cupcakes I've ever had! For one the first thing i notice upon opening the package is the fragrant smell of the spice, giving me all the feels! The gingerbread cookie that it was crowned with was soft chewy, and full of spice. I noticed there was a huge pile of icing on it, but the cream cheese icing was not at all too sweet and had this great buttery flavor to it. The cake itself was soft, moist, and definitely had that strong spuce that I have been craving. Even my sister loved it and she's not at all a cupcake person. When I had my cupcake, it was already a day old, so clearly that says alot. The shop itself was pretty spacious with large tables to sit down in and enjoy your treat. The cupcakes were very overpriced ($36 for 7), and I asked for a bag to carry them so they wouldn't topple over. After eating dinner, we decided to swing by for some dessert. It was less than 1 hr before closing time and St Augustine's 450th birthday weekend so I suppose that's why some of the cupcake and macaroon selections were slim. We went with a red velvet cupcake and a chocolate macaron since that was the only flavor left. The red velvet wasn't the best but not bad. My daughter loved it. I thought the frosting was sweet and very rich so if you have a sweet tooth, this will definitely hit the spot. Cake itself was pretty moist. I noticed that there were quite a bit of gluten free options. I not a macaron fan but the chocolate one was pretty good. The size seems larger than average. On my recent trip to St Augustine I was driving slowly down San Marco and in the corner of my eye I spotted a neon sign with the word 'cupcake'. I had to stop. I ordered a coconut cupcake (along with another coffee flavored cupcake which I couldn't eat because I don't like the taste of coffee in pastry). I'll start with what's good: the decor is bright and inviting, the frosting on the cupcake was pretty good(sweet but not overpowering). On the negative side the cupcake was not as moist as I wanted it to be and I wished there was more variety in the pastry case.
