We are lucky to have this Lulu's really close to us. We go here when we're too tired to make dinner as we know we'll always find something good to eat. Their portion sizes are good, the servers are always nice and welcoming, always great ambiance, but the price point can be a bit steep. I normally get their drunken noodles which is very good, but got pad kraphaw to be different this time. The sauce was too salty for my taste -- literally had to portion more rice with bites to compensate. Aside from that, everything else was good! read more

The space has such a cute, cozy vibe perfect for a late lunch or even an early happy hour (which starts at 2:00 PM, just FYI ). Cute neighborhood Thai food spot in Westwood. They are next door to a little bar called The House. I was at the house and decided to order some dinner. You can order via the bartender but I ordered online and walked next door to get it. The restaurant online ordering is easy to use. The food was done on time and was accurate. I love the crab Rangoon so I had to get an order. They're good sized, not greasy, and have good flavor. I also like the spring rolls. They are fresh and the mint is refreshing. The peanut sauce pairs well with it. My go to is the Pad se eu with chicken. The broccoli, carrots, and cabbage are always good quality and the dish is light. The noodles have a great texture and they put plenty of chicken in the dish. My other go to is the pad Thai. At this point, Lulu's is almost an institution in KC and for good reason. The atmosphere is good - small and cozy with a bit of decor scattered about. They also accommodate large parties and split checks up to 10 people, which is a huge plus for me since I had 5 other friends in tow to try their Westwood location out. The service was just okay, but they were slammed on a Friday night. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, I had the horsefeather which was delightful and strong. The seasonal pad woon sen was absolutely delicious and seasoned quite well. Just a tad on the salty side of you use too much sauce so be sparing! I've ordered takeout from Lulu's a total of two times so I've finally been able to write this review so that I give a formal opinion. I was in the mood for pad thai and this is a local staple in Westwood. I've always driven past it but never thought about eating here until recently. I'm not too big of a fan of tofu but I was excited to try some dishes since a lot of dishes here contain tofu. I ordered the tofu spring rolls which were super simple but absolutely tasty. The peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls took the spring rolls to a whole new level. The first time I ordered takeout, I ordered the pad thai with chicken in a medium spice level. The pad thai was tasty but it had no spice whatsoever. The second time I ordered the exact same thing but in the spice level: Hot -- the dish was still mild as ever. I don't have a very high spice tolerance so I should have been able to taste at least some spice. But there was none at all. I ordered the thai hot wings in 'hot' but still received no spice. These wings were very sweet and tasty but still.. no spice. I'm not sure if this is how all Lulu's locations are (avoiding spice) but the food is good, I just expected more of a kick- especially when i'm ordering a high spice level. We are visiting from out of town and stopped by Lulu's for dinner and would recommend! The decorations and vibe inside was super cool and gives a casual and trendy energy. The wild mushroom curry was delicious although the medium wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. There is rice at the bottom of this curry! The portion sizes are huge and I took half of my meal home with me. Our waiter was attentive and nice, no complaints there! The restaurant is trendy and vibey - it is amazing how they essentially turned a square cinderblock building into a such an inviting space with plants and wood decor. This Lulu's is also in a great location - so glad to have a little noodle shop at this spot in KC. The food is tasty, and reasonably priced in the current environment. I'm only holding back on 5 stars, because Thai Curry is my go-to dish at Thai restaurants, and Lulu's doesn't have my favorite curry. I love that Lulu's has a flexible menu that allows for most dishes to be made vegetarian or vegan. Their protein options include 2 plant proteins - tofu and Impossible. I had mostly written this place off years ago after receiving very lackluster food time after time, and slow service to boot, but a couple of months ago I ordered delivery because I was in the mood for pad thai and I wish I had listened to my past judgements! The chicken pad thai was supposed to be "blazing" but instead came out very mild and with no flavor whatsoever, as if they simply mixed the ingredients into the noodles and sprinkled some lime juice on it. I grew up in Bangkok and Vegas so I'm picky when it comes to great Thai restaurants. We ordered Vietnamese spring rolls, Tom Ka Gai and Tom Yum and chicken lettuce wraps. Every item was unremarkable and bland. My soup came almost cold and asked for it to be heated up. Instead the waiter just left the bowl at the table and got a new hot bowl. A little odd but whatever he's probably new. Will not come back. There has to be better Thai food somewhere here in KC. read more

A couple weeks ago I visited Lulu's Thai Noodle Shop for the first time. I ordered the Blazing Wok Bowl which has bell peppers, cabbage, black beans, rice noodles, and jalapenos. This was a little bit spicy for me, even at the 'Mild' spice level but it was still tasty. I also ordered the Tiger Lily cocktail which I enjoyed a lot. It would be nice to know which menu items are vegan or could be made vegan - when asking the waiter he said most could be made vegan but I felt like his statement lacked confidence so I'm not too sure. As part of restaurant week my wife and her shop owner decided to dine at Lulu's this past Thursday evening, January 16th. Her shop owner invited me to join them, I didn't want to intrude on their dinner but I did agree to meet for a drink and then leave them to their meal. We arrived during Happy Hour, the restaurant was busy but not crowded and had been seated for a few minutes looking over the HH drinks menu when the server came and asked if we were ready to order drinks. The ladies each ordered a glass of house wine and I ordered a Manhattan as it was a featured drink on the HH menu. Last night, my wife and I had the appetizer sampler and a small spicy chicken wings. I'm not a big fan of chilled vegetable rolls; but the Crab Rangoon was among the best I have had. The chicken wings, though, were the best ever. There is no mild version. It's moderately spicy or hot. We chose the mildest option, and it was just spicy enough to require a little lip balm later; but it was thoroughly worth it. This was my first time at Lulu's! The atmosphere was cute and relaxing. Our waitress was very informative and kind. She took her time answering questions and gave me a wonderful recommendation on bubble tea. I ended up getting a strawberry bubble tea, which was delicious. I had never had a bubble tea before and was apprehensive but I ended up enjoying it. My friend and I shared the sampler which was delicious! The crab rangoons were my favorite part of the sampler. They were so light and crisp. We also shared the rainbow peanut noodles. The rainbow peanut noodles were just okay. Got the pad Thai with chicken, masaman curry (blazing) with chicken, and some wings. The good: wings were cooked well and the sauce was delicious. Sweet and spicy and tangy. The bad: curry was awful. Straight up awful. Not spicy at all, the onions were absolutely raw, and the potatoes were Al-dente but thankfully sitting in the container they cooked a tiny bit more as I ate the wings. The chicken? There were like 5 pieces of it - you may think that's a bad thing. It isn't. The chicken was of a terrible texture and seemed like it was just tossed raw in the curry. Very bland. Pad Thai was decent, but again suffered from the same awful chicken. First time for everything. Probably won't be back unless it for those wings only. The staff were super friendly and nice. I love the building. I love the concept. I've thoroughly enjoyed about 75% of the menu items I've consumed over the many years. My problem? It's the service workers. They are the worst in the industry. From the moment you enter the front doors and place yourself at the hostess stand, where no one will ever be standing , not one person you encounter will greet you or welcome you there. As a matter of fact, everyone will see you, but no one will make eye contact. Someone different will deliver your food, but will not assist with simple things like pre-busing, or request for extra napkins. I could go on and on about how tedious these service workers are but I think you get my vibe. Experience it for yourself OR drop by the new location in Overland Park. they haven't had as much time to start hating their jobs and sloughing off their table service. read more

My favorite drink was the pineapple margarita with the Jalapeno tequila but this week went in and they have changed out their cocktail menu. So we tried the mango margarita with jalapeno tequila it was good but a little sweeter then the pineapple margarita (I hope this one makes it back to the cocktail menu). This is without a doubt the worst drunken noodle I have ever had from a restaurant. It was watery and had no flavor. It tasted and looked like everything had been cooked in water with no flavoring and then a little soy sauce had been added on top. It's always a fun experience to go to Lulu's in the Crossroads! Their atmosphere is quirky and pleasant with a hip vibe that's indicative of Downtown/Crossroads in KC. I love all the foliage, greenery and water fixtures inside the restaurant. It makes for a very unique atmosphere you won't find many other places in Kansas City. Hands down favorites are the rainbow peanut noodles OR the pineapple fried rice with shrimp. I always order mine with medium heat, which is just the perfect amount of spicy goodness. They're delicious whether you are dining in or carrying out, with very consistent quality. Parking can be tough in this area - You may find yourself parking a few blocks away and walking down but nothing too outlandish! Great to enjoy on a First Friday or lunch out from the office. I really don't know why some people love Lulu's. I haven't had a good experience at Lulu's since before their original location on SW Blvd moved. I live in the Westwood neighborhood and I always avoid going to Lulu's, but I managed to order here twice this week. My experience this week would be 3 stars, but I took off a star to reflect my generally unfavorable view of this restaurant. I've been sick this week and on day five of eating soup for every meal I found myself wanting something close, quick, and homemade. No more grocery store soup. I found out that Lulu's has a Seasonal "Big Soup" on their menu and it sounded similar to pho. "House-made chicken broth, choice of protein, bean sprouts, scallions, ground peanuts, cilantro & your choice of egg noodles or rice vermicelli noodles." I got it made with rice noodles and chicken, and at $9 this quart of soup seemed like a steal. Then I tasted it. There was NO FLAVOR. I was so disappointed. The "broth" just tasted like hot water. Luckily I had a couple of half-used ramen flavor packets with me. Store-bought ramen usually has so much flavor I only use half the packet, so it's not like I enjoy things overly salty. There was literally no flavor to the soup broth. After doctoring it I thought it was pretty good. The curbside service worked well also. Today, my co-worker picked Lulu's for lunch. She's one of the people who love it. My other co-worker & I do not. Between us we ordered lunch drunken noodles, yellow curry, 4-piece crab rangoon, small egg flower soup, and lunch spicy beef jantaboon. My co-worker enjoyed the curry and said he'd stick to ordering that from now on. The crab rangoon (with lots of actual crab!) was delicious. My Spicy Beef Jantaboon was disappointing. I've ordered it before when I was forced to dine at Lulu's against my will. And I thought it was delicious when I ate it at the restaurant. It's thin rice noodles, steak, bean sprouts, peanuts, scallions, cilantro, and jalapenos. The jalapenos usually give it a nice spicy heat. I even ordered it medium spice. I spotted three slices of jalapeno, but there was NO HEAT! None. Not spicy at all. Spicy is in the name. I was in a meeting, so I couldn't go doctor it up. The egg flower soup is a little weird. It's described as 'Light & flavorful chicken broth with silky ribbons of egg.' I thought it would taste like egg drop soup. It sort of does. If you add lemongrass and lime to your egg drop soup. I don't care for the flavor, so I just added some red pepper flakes and sriracho to try to overpower the tangy citrus flavor of the soup with spice. The fried wontons with the soup were good. And the group order on grubhub worked well. Every item was included and had the appropriate name on it. So, while the experience was really a 3 this week, too much uncertainty and having to doctor multiple items to make them palatable leaves Lulu's firmly on my 'Do Not Visit" list. read more

Lulu's has been a favorite for many years so I hesitated about giving them a bad review just as we are all coming out of a tough year. But a primary reason they are a favorite is that as a vegetarian, I trust them to get it right and they didn't tonight. I ordered the low carb Blazing Wok and selected tofu as both of my protein options. I was really bothered to find beef in my bowl midway through. Not just because it was animal protein; more because of what it told me about their kitchen integrity. Secondary to that, we were a fairly large table and our service was consistently bad. Bad meaning orders were wrong, drinks were slow and not good when they finally arrived, checks weren't right when it came time to pay... They offered to bring me a fresh meal but I meant it when I said I don't really trust their kitchen anymore. IF I patronize Lulus again, it will definitely be the other location. read more

I love hot, spicy, burn your booty food. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines. Add in plentiful vegetarian options and you just can't go wrong. I love Lulu's food. I always start with an order of the Thai lettuce wraps (veggies including carrots, cabbage, sprouts as well as peanuts with a side of peanut sauce) filled with tofu (you can add meat if you like). You absolutely can't go wrong if you enjoy a fresh and healthier option. I often get the khun ma pad Thai (think regular pad Thai with added veggies), the rainbow peanut noodles (veggie heavy dish topped with peanut sauce), or the drunken noodles (veggie heavy noodle dish with egg added). You can add tofu or animal protein to any of these dishes. Tell them you want it "blazing" if you enjoy a fiery mouth like I do. The only thing that ever detracts from Lulu's is that sometimes they just get your order wrong. Whether it be dining in or carrying out, I've had quite a few instances where the order is incorrect. Don't let that deter you completely though! read more
