Tried this place for the first time tonight. The restaurant appeared to be very clean and service was polite. I ordered the orange chicken, fried pork dumplings, and the combination fried rice. Food was all hot and fresh. The vegetables were nice and crisp. And they even threw in a couple free bowls of soup. The only minor complaint I have is that I wish there would have been more onion and egg in my fried rice. A huge plus for me about this place is that they're open until midnight. For those of us that work nights that's a very big deal. Anyway, I would rate this as slightly above average Chinese for KC. I'll definitely be back. read more

While I rarely get sushi unless there is a mango option, this spot had some BOGO opportunities that made it particularly appealing at the time. A few of us chipped in and got BOGO soup (the egg drop was so good and I heard the sweet and sour was delicious!), BOGO apps (The crab rangoon was pretty good, my friends got spring rolls), BOGO special rolls (we got to choose between 3 of their fancy rolls), a california roll, and a rainbow roll. The order was ready when we rolled up 20 min later and the staff was super kind. Chopsticks were included, which thrills me when I am not eating at home with my own chopsticks. The Chiefs and Monkey King rolls are delicious. There was a little too much eel sauce on top of them, but I am less of a saucy girl. Very glad I got to try them - the price might deter me otherwise because I am a penny pincher. The Cali and Rainbow rolls were as advertised - very fresh, delicious and filling. Came here due to wanting to try a different Chinese restaurant. They offer sushi here in addition to their regular menu. I tried the Chicken and Broccoli, I requested to have shrimp added. One order of wonton soup. Chicken and broccoli I give it a 6/10, the shrimp was mushy and had a weird taste to it. Most of the chicken was very chewy and really big chunks. The sauce for the chicken and broccoli was very good. The wonton soup I won't rate it so that I can be fair. It's made with pork and I don't eat pork so I did not eat it. When I lived more locally to this restaurant, I am serious when I say I ate here about weekly whether it be delivery or pickup. The restaurant is a bit small, but just the right amount of room to sit and have lunch with a small group. I've always placed to go orders, but I can say service is quick and has NEVER messed up a modified order yet. I typically order their jalapeno chicken, egg drop soup, crab salad and spicy sushi rolls. The spicy crab salad has a bit too much spice, so it can be quite a bit for some but I enjoy that extra bite! As for the jalapeno chicken, definitely one of the best in town I have to say! Chopstix is a small restaurant in a strip mall. I actually drove by it at first. I arrived in time to order from the lunch menu. I started with the shrimp tempura roll which was good. It's hard to mess up that basic roll. I was surprised to see the sweet and sour sauce on the side with my sweet and sour shrimp. The sauce was very thin which made it hard to stick to the shrimp. I think if the sauce was thicker it would have been ok to dip or pour over the shrimp. The shrimp themselves were a little over cooked but not bad. I know it came from eating there because it's the only thing I ate yesterday. Also, the waiter was a bit rude to my friend which I didn't appreciate but, I figured she could fight her own battles. We had the Mongolian Beef as part of the family dinner, as recommended to us by our server. The chicken spring rolls were a bit thick on the outside, but delicious nonetheless. We also had some sushi that unfortunately lacked a bit of flavor without the soy sauce. The beef itself was heavier on the flour, but the onions in that dish were phenomenal. My grandpa was excited to try this place. They just recently opened up for dine-in service. Three of went to lunch here on a Sunday, and it wasn't that busy inside but serval people came through to pick to-go orders. The portions are very large and tasted fresh! Three of us each had a cup of soup, shared an order of crab rangoons, and shared the triple delight entree. It was more than enough food, we even had leftovers to take home. The crab rangoons were the star of the show for me, hot and delicious filling with large and crispy wonton wrappers. I could tell they were very fresh. The hot and sour soup was very good too, nice flavor! The wonton strips they brought out with the soups were kind of stale. The triple delight was very good. I was impressed by how tender the chicken and beef were and how fresh the vegetables were! The only downside was that it only had two pieces of shrimp with it, but plenty of other meat! Stopped by here on my way to airport and unfortunately had a less than quality experience. I had the General chicken which was made with dark meat so some pieces were very rubbery and an "off" smell with them. The sauce had a good flavor and some of the pieces of chicken still had a good crunch. I also had some crab Rangoon which were very heavy on imitation crab which I personally don't like. Most of the appetizers were decent. Maybe a little too much seasoning in the spring rolls. The egg rolls, sadly, were bland, and tasted like frozen egg rolls that had been tossed in a deep fryer. The teriyaki chicken was a pleasant surprise. It had BEAUTIFUL caramelization, and tasted as good as it looked. It had lots of flavor and a terrific texture. My wife's fried was was on the bland side. Not much flavor. The general tso chicken had a great flavor. My chicken lo mein was pretty sub par. It had a pretty good flavor but was horribly oily! I have never had a Chinese dish, or maybe any dish, that was so swimming in oil. I tried to get a photo of my plate after the meal, but the waiter was too quick. Oil absolutely covered the plate. So, I have been hearing about a new Chinese place that has recently opened on Barry Road. In fact just last evening I saw some pictures posted in the KC Eats Facebook forum of some delicious looking food that they served during lunch. So, I decided to investigate! In a small strip mall, nestled between the Honey Baked Ham Café and Pier 1, sits a place called Chopstix. It is actually in the old Malay Café space. The owners of this place have taken a lot of pride making this small space work. When you walk into the entry way you are greeted by some wood stained shelving holding a vase and some figures. The walls are covered by a variety of decorations and artwork. The various shades of brown of the tables and wood trim on the walls, along with the cream color and gold accents on the walls, and the soft glow of the lights, gives one a feeling of welcome, warmth, and comfort. And then there is the food! They have an extensive menu of Soups, Appetizers, Fried Rice, Lo Mein, Egg Fu Young, Beef, Pork, Shrimp & Fish, Chicken, and dumplings. There is also a list of Chefs Specialties. Finding a place to sit, I start to study the menu. Making my decision, I ordered a Pork Egg Roll appetizer and for the main course Kung Pao Shrimp. "Spicy" Shrimp sautéed in a rich brown sauce, with dried hot peppers, peanuts, diced bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and baby corn. After a short wait they brought me the Egg Rolls, golden brown and crispy, piping hot and full of pork! A very nice way to start a meal. Then came the Kung Pao Shrimp. Piled high on the plate with steam rolling off it and loaded with shrimp. I popped a shrimp in my mouth and gave it a taste. Perfect! Tender and delicious the brown sauce and the mild heat of the spice was a perfect compliment. I did not leave hungry. Well Done Chopstix! Well Done Indeed! P.S. Last night on KC Eats there was a discussion on why there were pickles on some of the plates. So, I asked my waiter and this is what I was told: In traditional Chinese cooking, that uses a lot of oil, pickles are always placed on the plate as an aid in digestion and to cleanse the palate. read more

This place is in my neighborhood and a knock out of the park every. Single. Time! The best thing is that it is close in proximity to my home, they have a variety of different types of Asian cuisine in case one of us wants sushi, someone wants Chinese, etc. I have not found vegetable dumplings this delicious since I left New York City. They were big fat fluffy pillows stuffed with cabbage, shiitake mushrooms and I don't know what else but they were delicious! The shrimp fried rice was enough to feed several people and they did not skimp on the shrimp. They were giant and they seemed endless! The only recommendation I would have would be to sauté the onions a little longer as I prefer them fully cooked. To be fair, I ordered DoorDash a few minutes before they stopped taking DoorDash orders, so maybe they were in a hurry. Either way, I am a fan of Chopstix and will continue to order at least once a week from here. I also ordered sushi but gobbled it up before I had the opportunity to take a picture. It was only $5.50 for the tuna sushi and it comes with two pieces! The dumplings were about $7.99 and this enormous portion of the shrimp fried rice was $12.99. You really can't beat it. I discovered this restaurant through Door Dash during the stay at home order. This is most definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants that I've tried (and that's a lot) in the greater KC area. The spring rolls have a unique and addictive flavor. The meat is good quality and prepared extremely well in their dishes. No gristly bits and fatty spots, and the veggies are crisp and fresh.
