Convenient place to shop. They have a variety of supplies that others in the area don't. Brad

When I moved to the area five years ago, my wife found a local Ace Hardware store in Mercersburg,…read morePa. As it turned out, it is the sister store to the Greencastle store. Both stores are owned by the same family. This location is larger than the Mercersburg Ace. This store offers as much as the big box stores (Home Depot and Lowes) but on a much smaller scale. There are aisles offering plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, pool supplies, cleaning supplies, lighting, paint and painting supplies, roofing products and masonry products along with small hand tools and so much more. Key cutting is offered for door locks as well as car keys for vehicles both chipped and non-chipped keys at a fraction of the cost of a locksmith. As you enter the store on the left is a grilling and barbecue area. Grills can be assembled and delivered if requested for a small fee. In the center of the store is a desk where paint can be custom-mixed. Benjamin Moore and Clark and Kensington paints are the primary paints as well others. To the right as you enter the store are gas powered and battery powered power tools including Dewalt, Milwaukee, Ego, Craftsman and Stihl. All Stihl tools can be serviced for repairs in the store, as well as lawn blade and chainsaw chain sharpening. In the back of the store is a large hardware section, offering nuts, bolts, screws and so much more. Glass cutting, and screen repairs is also offered. Propane tanks are sold and can be also refilled if necessary. If the store does not have an item in stock it can usually be ordered from the warehouse an received within several days. Or, if the Mercersburg store has the item in stock, it can transferred from there to the Greencastle store within twenty four hours. Delivery service is also offered for a nominal fee. If you need lumber, the Mercersburg store also has a lumber yard and offers delivery as well also for a small fee. Online orders can also be placed and are ready to be picked within fifteen minutes The customer service is always friendly and knowledgeable. Full disclosure, I am an employee here and work ten hours a week at this location. However, before I began working here, I was already a regular shopper at both stores. Restrooms are available for the customers convenience. There is a large parking lot at the front of the store. I highly recommend shopping at Ace over the big box stores.

For a long time I supported this place and strongly advocated against shopping at Ace hardware…read more Keep things local at a hardware store that is part of the community. Unfortunately, one smug employee ruined that experience for me, and I'll now be switching my allegiance to Ace. I purchased a small $6 shower accessory. Unfortunately I lost the receipt. The accessory was not what I needed, and I attempted to return it. The employee stated I cannot return without a receipt, even for a store credit (I was going to purchase products worth more than the value of what I was returning). I was disappointed at this response, but I shopped for what I needed anyway. I went to the front, and the employee was helping another customer in an aisle. After helping that customer, she proceeded to another customer in the aisle. Now, I understand one person having to triage, but at that point a simple acknowledgement of me would have been nice. It felt intentional, and it seemed as if the employee was taking satisfaction, acting somewhat smug as she told me she won't accept a return without a receipt. Not sure if this is just one rude employee, or the owner is really this strict about returns on $6 items that are clearly unused, but either way, I seriously doubt I'll be doing business here any more. If you had or have a similar experience, I also encourage you to drop these clowns. (Incidentally, when I purchased the item I would eventually return, I was not asked for my phone number (which they generally use to text receipts, as I'm part of their "customer club" or whatever. So there is actually another mess-up by a different employee that could have accommodated the companies own draconian return policy.) In short, I go to a neighborhood spot like this for the service. And when I'm treated this way, it defeats the purpose of avoiding much more convenient and likely cheaper options like Ace or Amazon. You are not really selling hardware - you should be trying to offer a superior customer experience--remember that and you will not lose customers like this
