AMBIANCE: The place was really very attractive and extremely clean - no dust anywhere. FOOD: Meh. Chicken wraps were good, burger was good, boneless wings were all fat and gristle, "fresh" green beans tasted like dirt - they clearly were not washed. SERVICE: Entire staff was 60+, and all acted like they wanted to be somewhere else. We ordered a Coke, and were served Diet Coke. Asked to please get regular Coke. Another Diet Coke was brought. Asked again... now WE were the problem. Fifteen minutes later, another was finally brought. Was told the lines were switched. It was still Diet Coke. Too bad. This place has potential. I love fried pickles as an appetizer. These are the worst i have ever had. Whole Pickles with the deepest breading disgusting. Lightly fried pickle coins are great but these were horrible. Soup was good but I wouldn't return. Atmosphere was loud and hard to hear Conversations at our table. Drinks were not impressive at all. read more

First off, my server Cheyenne was excellent! She was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. Also, the vegetable medley was fresh and tasty (in Februar.) A slice of homemade bread with butter was a nice touch. I had a delicious Cheboygan blood orange beer and a glass of decent Malbec with my "steak." Sadly the rest of the food was disappointing. I ordered the t-bone special. For $18 in today's economy, I thought this was a steal. However, the cut was approximately 1/4" thick. The flavor wasn't bad but there was no meat to sink my teeth into and it was tough even though it was cooked correctly to my medium rare preference. It was also covered in onions - not sure why - which were undercooked. The baked potato was tiny by steakhouse standards. The salad mix and shredded cheese came out of a bag, though the croutons and cucumber slices were fresh and crunchy. I dined here while traveling in the summer several years ago and was looking forward to another good meal in a local restaurant. Tonight's meal sadly fell short. I feel like I should've eaten at the nearby Applebee's or Culver's. At least it would have been predictable. I hope that this establishment returns to its former standards. read more

Lumber Jack restaurant is a nice restaurant halfway to the Mackinaw Bridge from the state line. I enjoyed the ambiance as there was a decent turnout for dinner. As for the service, it was top notch quality as the server was attentive and friendly with our time at the West Branch restaurant attached to a hotel. The food was what I considered four out of five stars. Pictured, I think the fish and chips are very nicely done, but the Mac and cheese with fried chicken is okay. That chicken Mac and cheese could have been made better with a very slightly generous amount of chicken on top of Cavatappi. On a high note, I enjoyed the dessert - the peanut butter pie with some caramel, chocolate sauce and some whipped cream. Overall I enjoyed the restaurant just off Exit 212. It deserves a four star rating in my opinion. read more

I try very hard to like this place, it has a great vibe and decoration is on point for the theme. Unfortunately my experience with staff and food has been very unpleasant. I have been here 2 times now over the years thinking they deserved a second chance and unfortunately it was even worse than the first. Me and my daughter went here for breakfast and it was everything but good, let's start with my breakfast. The lumberjack, two perfectly cooked eggs(eggs are hard to screw up), bacon tasted like it was made in some kind of rickety home lab/kitchen. Ham was Gelatinous and tasted like a pig spat on bologna, a very cheap cut. Hash browns were raw, wet and un-crispy but they at least could have had flavor tastes like wet uncooked potatoes with a side of a greasy teenagers scalp. But the marble rye was deliciously delicate yet densely cut, sausage links were amazing, from the first snap when you bite in till the last link. If I had a Time Machine I'd go back and order nothing but eggs, toast and sausages. Now let's talk about my daughters food, she claimed that the gravy was good but there was a lack of meat. I was so exited to eat here based on the reviews, and photos I saw. If you are looking for good food, FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. it's connected to a hotel, had a few kids running back and forth where we were seated. The decor is cool, you walk into a gift shop of sorts, the walls are filled with bears and fishing items. A lot to look at while waiting for lackluster food. My husband got the Brisket wrap- which was the special of the day. I got the meatloaf which they said was a house specialty. The meatloaf came with a cup of soup- Garden vegetable. The soup itself was the best thing, even though my cup was half full. The meatloaf came in a bowl, with bland mashed potatoes whos only saving grace was the packaged gravy poured ontop. My meatload was soooo tiny it was 4 pieces of silver dollar sized meat chunks coverd in gravy. Covered probably because it had been cooked weeks ago and they needed to hide how it looked. Flavor was OK, TEXTURE WAS HORRIBLE, it was so dry. Thank god for the gravy. I would expect to pay around 8 dollars MAX for that dish, not the 13 dollars i paid. My husbands Brisket wrap.... was strange to say the least, it came with fries, but was loaded with the bland mashed potatoes INSIDE the wrap. Two thin pieces of brisket- the fattiest toughest part, overly smoked, then the bland mashed potatoes, and then some crispy onions in a wheat wrap. It was NOT good. The potatoes dominated and created a wierd texture. Please dont have this as an option anymore. I was not impressed, I was not satisfied, I will NOT go here again. The lumberjack is a West Branch staple. Food ok. I recommend keeping your order simole. Burger or sandwich and you won't be disappointed. I felt the portions were on the large side which some people appreciate. The place is way too cluttered for me however. Makes me feel like it couldn't possibly be as clean as I'd like. read more

The service by my waiter was exceptional The ambiance is fantastic, knotty pine, outdoor themed decorations. Pan fried Walleye was suggested to me. I would expect to place at least two fillets I received one very thin fillet of walleye with salty gravy poured on the top of it, much like some diner will do to their meatloaf so you don't taste the actual dish I expected good fish and ended up paying over $20 to leave with extremely salty taste in my mouth. read more

Fries were shoestring which I don't like so I only had a few. My friend had the Jack Daniel's chicken wings and said they were solid but also nothing special. Our party of four was overall very pleased with the food and service! We had the fish sandwich with house made chips, black bean burger with sweet potato fries, black bean chili and an order of loaded sweet potato fries. All were great. I've never had a burger taste that bad. It's clearly frozen & then cooked. The tomato I got was so old & tasted disgusting. Frankly, the pickle spear was even old. TL;DR: Stay away. We've been to the Lumberjack several times over the years, and while fine dining it is not, it's always been decent food--until now. We stopped there for an early lunch on Sunday as we were staying at the hotel where it's located (hotel is under renovation and should be avoided at all costs, but that's for another review), and I ordered the Pan Seared Cod while my better half got the Chicken Caesar Wrap. The wrap was the highlight of the meal, even though it seemed to have ranch dressing rather than Caesar. Now, the cod. When it arrived, it was very heavily seasoned, which is fine, but boy, oh boy, was it rare. For those unfamiliar with that term (as our waitress appeared to be), that means raw. When Sheri (sp?), our server, arrived to see how the food was, I questioned whether cod, when cooked, should be gray and translucent. She begrudgingly took it back to the kitchen and returned with it momentarily, with the cod in the same state as it was when I sent it back. According to her, the cook said that this particular fish is supposed to look that way when it's cooked, but they'd could cook it longer if I'd like. Deciding I wouldn't take the chance of lord knows what ending up in my food, I asked to have it taken off the check, and Sheri didn't seem too thrilled about that, but she did manage the task. We paid for the "Caesar" wrap and left and as we were walking by the people waiting to be seated, I overheard them talking about the fact that they couldn't believe I didn't like the cod and should have ordered the Whitefish Benedict instead (something I didn't even see on the menu). Apparently news travels fast in the Lumberjack and there's nothing better for the employees to do but talk about other patrons. read more

I had the pulled pork sandwich and chips and my husband had the fish sandwich and fries they were both very good. Beth was the waitress and she was very nice and did an amazing job. The cost of the food for the two of us was reasonable. I was surprised to see they were not busier. I would recommend this place to my friends as a place to stop if passing through. Glad we stopped on our way through. Will definitely be back. They have a gift shop to look at while waiting for your food as well. read more

So I've read the reviews both good and bad. I've been hesitant to post much these days, but I also haven't been traveling either, so opportunities to check out "new" places are few and far between. My wife and I stopped in on the way up to a quick anniversary vacation in Northport. We had planned to go to a couple other spots I know, but found this convenient, and the mix of reviews intrigued me, so..... With Covid these days you expect to wait in line at a place like this. We put our name in with the hostess, who was also covering the cash register for the gift shop. She said it would be fifteen minutes. It was five. Good sign. We sat down in a dining room that was about as social distanced as you can be when half of it is booths along a wall. The waitress was very attentive, gave us laminated menus (easy to clean/wipe) and a couple of waters. Both my wife and I went for the Polish Plate special, which wasn't on the regular menu. It was, in a word, delicious. Home cooked food at its best; unpretentnoius, filling, and good. The sausage was great, and the Pirogies were well cooked and delicious. Only issue was the cream of mushroom soup, which was a little bland, and a bit watery. Otherwise, it was a great experience. read more

My wife, son, and I came here for the 1st time and we will be back. My wife got the Reuben and she said it was one of the best she has had in a long time. My son got the pulled pork sandwich, and it disappeared faster than a bottle of water on a hot day. I myself got the half order of pot roast, and all I can say is I wish I had ordered the full, I have never had pot roast so tender and flavorful. in my opinion they are a 10 star. read more

We visited on a Saturday night at 8pm and we were quickly seated, pleasant server, and our food was delivered incredibly quick. I ordered their rosemary chicken breast with fresh veggies and fries, my husband ordered the fish and chips. I was very impressed with the chicken and vegetables. Not very many restaurants have fresh vegetables and they were cooked wonderfully. The restaurant was nice, clean, and very fun rustic feel. The menu offers a lot of wonderful options. We were staying at the Quality Inn, so we were very happy to have an attached restaurant/bar! We were given coupons for 25% off breakfast & 10% off dinner/drinks, which did include alcohol. Great incentive to dine there. We ordered burgers & fries, and our son ordered the Turkey sandwich. I don't know why the reviews seem so bad, I thought the food was delicious! Burger was juicy & cooked perfectly, & the skin-on fries were flavored perfectly. We also went for breakfast the next day, and there was a 15 minute wait. There are souvenirs to look at, and plenty of seating while you wait. Corned Beef Hash was delicious! Service that morning was great. Prices are very affordable in my opinion, and even better with the discounts. Only con was the waiter the 1st night we went for dinner. He seemed irritated & wasn't very friendly AT ALL. I am a sucker for Kitchey theme restaurants and always liked the woodsy outdoor decor here. Big big problem though- The food the last visit was absolutely horrible. It takes a special kind of stupid to screw up breakfast food but everything was bad. They actually served me burned up hash browns so dry, hard and crumbly they stuck inside my molars. It was like being served a handful of brown dirt. Room temperature slimy eggs and extra coffee grounds at the bottom of your mug as a foreshadowing of the heartburn to come. The prices are fair, the food is great, the service is excellent...what more can you ask for? I loved the 5 onion soup. I always wish there was more broth in these soups as the croutons soak up all the broth but there was plenty of onions and just the right amount of quality cheese on top. The Reuben was loaded with meat. Our server, Melanie, made sure our coffee cup was never empty. My favorite part of the meal...the incredibly decadent and delicious cheesecake. It cost $6.50 but it was a huge slice with fresh berries and tasted so very good. I like the fun decorations and the mini store inside that is stocked with fun Michigan made products. read more
