We stopped in for dinner around 5:45 this evening and it was soooo cold when we sat down that we had to leave. We told a tall thin caucasian server? or busboy? and he stated "Well, they keep it cool for our servers because they're always complaining of being hot." As he giggled then apologized. Really?! I then asked our waitress why the restaurant was kept so cold and she couldn't give us any answer. I also noticed this same waitress had a long sleeved shirt plus a shirt over that one. Hmm go figure! Cold much??There was a middle aged man and woman leaving the restaurant in a jacket as we were pulling in. There was also a young lady sitting with her family stating how cold she was as we were leaving. So, I am pretty sure that we're were not the only ones complaining. **Your employees may need to be reminded that if they haven't any customers they do not have any work!!.** We went on down the road to Black Bear as they obviously cared for the comfort of their customers and the room temperature was very comfortable!! Paid 14 dollars for a salad that was literally almost an entire head of lettuce with a few beans thrown on it, a few slices of un-ripened avocado and a couple small pieces of bland chicken. This is yet another attempt to make a go of the old Lyons restaurant location next to the freeway. Judging from the crowds, this one might succeed. Went there for lunch recently. Their success is based on moderate prices, specials for old people, and fairly generous portions. Frankly, they are aiming at an already over-served market in the Grass Valley area. I had a hamburger. It was adequate. The service was friendly, but not efficient. The waitresses work hard, but when the place is full at lunchtime, they can't keep up. UGH!! Not one drink refill. The waitresses ran after we were seated. We sat at our booth waiting. For either the check, a refill, eye contact...anything. When someone finally came to our booth she asked how our food was , I went "eh" she said "I wouldn't have ordered that it's terrible here". I went here both Saturday and Sunday over Father's Day weekend. I went with 4 friends of mine on the Saturday for a late breakfast and I decided to try the Ultimate Breakfast. Holy toledo, that is a lot of food. Included with the Ultimate Breakfast is French Toast, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Ham, and Potatoes. The sausages are great. I had to leave some of the ham and bacon untouched as I was full. When are group was ready for the check, our waitress, Katie, asked if we'd like the check split up so we could all pay individually. I thought that was great and it was as if she read our minds. Sunday was Father's day and I was back for more. Even though it was a holiday, it only took 3 friends and me (we lost a friend since Saturday) about 10 minutes to get seated. This time I ended up getting the Jack's Omelette which included cheese, bacon, sausage, and ham - served with potatoes and toast. I also got a glass of orange juice that they make fresh inside the restaurant. We wished we had requested Katie to be our waitress again though as our waitress on Sunday forgot a few of the items we requested and we had to ask her to split up our bill individually too - I guess we got spoiled the day before. Our group of 4 arrived at 9pm on a Sunday night. We were very happy to see the place still open. Our expectations were not that high, but the experience was not great. The staff was friendly and attentive, although the place was mostly empty. The "Ultimate Ribeye Steak" was at least half the size it was advertised to be, and only 1/4" thick. It was a big disappointment. The double chicken breasts were tiny. The ground round with gravy was huge and tasty. The salad bar was a bit tired, but OK considering the late hour. We saw other groups being served large portions of food and we expected the same, but with very mixed results. We saw a big basket of onion rings go by and thought those would make a good starter. Instead of a big basket served as an appetizer, we got a plate with 7 onion rings served with the meal. The wait person did apologize and say "I'm sorry for the small portion; here's a few onion rings." But, the full price still appeared on the bill. It was almost as though they were running out of food and didn't want to cook any more, so they spread the food they had over the four of us. Had they reduced our bill accordingly, that would have been OK, but they didn't do that. The chefs made their money and the wait staff got a generous tip, but we were shortchanged, big time. read more

We had breakfast there today! The food was awesome. Both of my oldest (9 & 12) granddaughters had the linguica breakfast. It was huge! They both ate everything on their plates! Our waitress, Kim, was awesome!!!! We didn't have to wait for refills, she was right there! I was a little nervous, as my youngest granddaughter is 3. I was, frankly, surpised at the number of people complaining about poor service. I have never experienced that. Maybe because my family and I frequent this place and our faces our known to the staff... Maybe it's the same with others and they just tip poorly and so the staff remember them for their poor tips... not much motivation there to improve service. But I digress... If you've driven by this place, then you've seen how busy the parking lot looks during peak business hours. That alone should tell you that the service isnt as bad as many reviewers say it is. When discussing the food, you need to remember that this is no 5 star or even 4 star restaurant. That being said, the food is quite good. I've had their pot roast, prime rib and their burgers and they have yet to fail on any of those fronts. The bread they serve with the dinners are outstanding. You can never go wrong with fresh baked bread. You might get the impression that I think this should get a five star rating. That isnt the case. For me, a very large portion of how good a restaurant is, is how clean the restaurant is. The bathrooms I've never really considered clean and it makes me paranoid about touching ANYTHING in the bathroom. The other part is that I have a pet peeve about saladbars... they should always be kept clean and ingredients kept fresh. The first time I went to this restraunt, the salad bar was hideous. It was obvious that the wait staff were not keeping up with ensuring that the salad bar was clean and stocked with fresh ingredients. I have not ordered the salad bar since. All other areas within the dining area are kept clean and I havent recieved a dirty dish yet. To me, the bathroom and salad bar are not items that would kill the experience for me. If the food was poor and the wait staff were unfriendly, this would be a much different review. A solid 4 star restaurant. Great family dining, not so much for date night. :) read more

Hit or miss. The service is always good and they always get my order right. The food is generally served in large portions. Not much to choose from if you are looking for something light. Sometimes to the point of being wasteful. The last visit I ordered chicken fried steak with eggs. The eggs were cooked to order, and the country potatoes were decent. The steak however was overcooked to an extreme crisp. Dry and salty and flavorless. I had asked for the gravy on the side so they couldn't hide the meat under a bath of gravy. The gravy was tasteless and the biscuit was like eating a sack of flour. I think I would have preferred a smaller portion of meat cooked less and more tender and juicy. The dinners are usually plain and simple comfort foods and I usually order breakfast as it is usually pretty good. I have tried some of the dinners and they are ok. Nothing special. The salad bar is always fresh and clean and has a decent selection. read more

After dining at Lumberjacks several times over the past few weeks it is time I leave a new review. First off I must say Stephanie is THE BEST SERVER at this restaurant. She waited on us several times and as this is our last trip we hoped she was here tonight. No such luck, so Stephanie thank you for taking excellent care of us and making us feel so welcome. The food was always yummmmmy everything was prepared perfectly! It was nice to have a hearty meal after a long days work. The manager (or the woman in the burgandy shirt, who barked orders) could use some help. She is way too loud when ordering her staff to do their side work. She would prefer the work be done to the detriment of the patrons. Stephanie seemed able to balance both with ease, the other servers not so much. The servers seemed afraid of the "barker" and did other tasks and seemed unable to return to their tables to tend to the guests. Perhaps a bit of honey over the vinegar would serve the restaurant better. A please and thank you can go a long ways in this world.
