Our home, which was built in the '20s had knob and tube wiring. Yes, posts with bare wires wrapped around them. We also had barely enough power in the house to run a washing machine and computer at the same time. The guys came in, removed all the old wires and junctions, replaced everything, added conduit throughout and spent a lot of time advising us on the myriad questions we had. Due to timing issues, electrical code changed mid job. The guys at 4-Over had to go back in and add a some new items. A very difficult job was done on time and budget. They did a great job with a difficult home. My general advice, if you are buying or contemplating rewiring and old home, be aware of the amount of behind the wall access you need. This means holes in the wall, and if you have a difficult plaster job afterwards, be prepared. 4 Over called us many times during the job to ensure we REALLY wanted that light in that partiucular place due to the holes it would cause. We appreciated that. I now know a good plasterer for you also, but he isn't on yelp. :)

Called three electricians I've used before and couldn't get anyone to answer. Found Mos Power Services on Google and Moses picked up immediately. He was there within 15 minutes. Our building is old and complicated (original 1940s structure with a lot of additions), but he was able to diagnose a tough issue quickly, explain everything clearly, and get us back up and running the same day. He is very knowledgeable about electrical problems. He's not a beginner or an amateur. He is a real professional. He's cooperative, and always easy to deal with. We did not have a single problem with him or his work. Bad wiring can cause major problems including fires. George worked until all our electrical problems were solved. When he found other electrical issues -- very old wiring, for example -- he carefully showed them to us without pressuring us. He installed two large electrical panels in our house in Pasadena. He rewired some very old, very bad wiring that other electricians had screwed up badly. He installed a major circuit breaker to shut off power in a disaster which previous electricians and homeowners had "forgot" to install. He labeled every single circuit. He even waited hours one day for the city power inspector to show up (very late) without a complaint. The city inspector said as soon as he saw George's truck, he knew the work had been done correctly. I doubt he's the least expensive, so if you want cheap work maybe you should look elsewhere, but he's not the most expensive either. Good, safe electrical work is just not cheap but it is impressive and keeps your house safe. We'll definitely use George and Preferred Electric Service again when it's needed.
