Super cute store from the outside. Like others have said I was not acknowledged the entire time I was browsing. Also the merchandise is way over priced. I was looking for a footstool, they have some household stuff. In my search I tripped over the ramp they have in there, in full view of the woman working there. She made no remark, are you ok? My mom had an appointment here at 1 o'clock today. There was a sign on the door saying they had changed their opening hour from 11am to 1pm on Fridays. My mom stood there until 1:30 (with 2 big boxes of clothes) and at that point decided to leave. No one ever showed up. We both called and no one ever answered either. Also, we never got a phone call from them with even so much as an apology for being a no-show. The owner sure doesn't know how to run a business here. I'm surprised they've been open for so long. I found an amazing pillow and two lovely necklaces which made me smile even more upon discovering that a sale was going on & I saved 20% They have curated a fun assortment of items, clothing, jewelry and accessories are available as are small household goods & furniture. The gal working was attentive and friendly with a fun sense of style. Definitely is a shop I'd pop into again upon visiting this area. My only negative would be that while it's pretty to see clothing arranged by color, it is more work in finding your size. read more

My wife found a pair of earrings there that she could not resist. The painted pattern reminded her of indigenous Mexico and the dangly earrings had a great backstory harkening to Esalen's small group of vendors who sold original jewelry pieces outside of the campus property in the '80s. I had an appointment to consign some clothes today, but unfortunately the owner didn't show. The business is supposed to open at 11, and my appointment was scheduled for 11, but upon my arrival, there was no one there. 15 minutes went by and I was a bit frustrated, but was trying to be understanding as I know things happen and people show up a little late sometimes. By 11:30 when she still hadn't arrived, I decided to make my way. If it weren't for having an appointment, I wouldn't have cared, but c'mon, that's just rude. read more

I am very disappointed in this store, I reached out to the owner even wrote her a full letter and asked her to contact me but she did not. I would not waste your time trying to trade or consign here as she has recently not taken a thing from me nor is the process always fast. its also annoying because you have to leave everything overnight and then return which is not convenient. I gave some ideas to the owner and was also ignored. I feel like this shop doesn't care about its local clientele enough to even call me, that's rude. The owner has had the shop for 20 years but to ignore a customer is wrong. I am a manager in the customer service industry and I feel like this shop needs a reboot of their buying /trading policies as they passed on all kinds of things more than 200 pieces over the last three times I attempted to sell/trade there and frankly I had nice things and was never acknowledged. I hope the store reads this and finally cares.. but I doubt it. If you are a trader and vintage lover don't waste your time trying to consign as I did... you may be passed over then forgotten about too. read more

I went into Lunablu today and received the best service from Brenda. I have very little fashion sense and didn't know where to start looking, but I wanted to try and find something different that I wouldn't normally wear. Brenda helped me find different things to try on to get a good sense of things I liked and didn't like about different styles of shirts, jeans, pants, boots, and cardigans. She was amazing and was so patient when I had no clue what I was looking for. She was very sweet. I was inspired today to try something new!! Thank you, Brenda, for all your help!! You are awesome!! I understand rent 'aint cheap in Monterey but when you can find the same dress or skirt at the actual store it came from in Monterey for the same price, why would you get it second hand? I haven't been here since they changed their name (same owner I'm pretty sure) but I went on a whim well no... I was told to go by a friend who had just bought a Juicy necklace. She told me to go in and buy the bracelet... feeling like a young teen needing the matching bracelet of which my friend just got the necklace (weird I know) no no that's not why but that's what the outcome was. I went in to check it out and obvi buy it beause I love buying accessories since I'm not happy about my current size and I refuse to buy anything near my actual size but most accessories are one size fits all (or most) thank the lord of fashionable goods. I also haven't worn or purchased anything Juicy since the year they hit it with those velour sweatpants and matching hoodies... I was more of just the sweatpants and not the hoodie at the same time kind of girl but you get the pic. The bracelet was fine, not too obnoxious and you wouldn't know it's Juicy unless you looked closely (I'm not a brand name whore anymore so I really didn't care that it was Juicy but I figured the quality would be slightly better than no-name brands). But what peeved me out and upset me and made me walk out withou investigating further is that I noticed that my one of a kind black clutch purse with hugh shell detailing and shell handles sat in the glass display among a bunch of others and I was furious. That little shit! Yes, my own blood had gone in and sold that to them... are you f-ing kidding me? You didn't get my permission and I know if she brought that piece she probably brought 5 huge bags of my goods, I wouldn't know. I use to be a shopaholic. No really, I'm pissed. I received a call from my Mother who just landed in Japan 48 hours ago and she called me so I could say Happy Mother's Day etc... I told her that the next time she let this happen (my stuff is at her house like storage) I'm going to go into the police station and file a stolen property notice. This has gone too far, it's not some overworn vintagey looking shirt that I never wore this is a one of a kind purse. I seriously am thinking about going to buy it back but it sounds so freaking ridiculous!!! What a shame terrible service, not very clean and disappointing selection. I wouldn't rate so poorly except the woman basically looked at her laptop the entire time I was in the store. She acted annoyed when I asked questions. I went to try on clothes in the dressing room and she pointed to the back of the store and said take any one. There were clothes in the dressing room already so I couldn't hang up the ones I had picked out. I went to tell her and she said " you can bring them out to me" REALY??? Her dog growled several times at people when they came in..did not give me a very good impression. And the floors were dirty and clothing not hung well on the hangers. I was looking forward to finding some great deals here and was disappointed. They did not have a great selection of jewelry, though I have to say, the range of purses was decent. There were some items that looked good but seemed over-priced and others that just seemed over-priced. (Why would anyone pay over $10 for a used H&M tank top?) Half the fun of consignment/thrift shopping is the hunt and for that part, I enjoyed the shop. It is small, full and clean. read more

This place is Great! I was greeted with a nice hello by a young woman named Jackie & asked if i needed help in finding anything in particular. I browsed the store a bit & asked if they bought vintage clothing, her answer was "Yes, if you can leave it overnight, the owner will look at it either tonight or tomorrow morning and we'll have a check for you tomorrow afternoon" I left the clothing and got a message the next afternoon from Jackie saying that she had a check for me and she even broke down how the owner came up with that amount. The whole experience was very positive and professional! Thankfully my experience with Luna Blu was great compared with the horrible experience I had at Reincarnation in Pacific Grove; it's another vintage clothing store, but I wouldn't recommend Reincarnation to my worst enemy. I wrote a review of them as well. I will gladly come back to Luna Blu again; the customer service was awesome, the selection was great, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the location is convenient. We've shopped at Luna BLU and have on occasion found a couple of unique items. One major caveat though is the prices are on the high side even for Monterey. I've found a wider range of options at Cats Meow at consistently more affordable prices. Like other Yelpers have noted...service is not always customer friendly, BUT if you don't mind that and have a bit of money, you might want to take a look yourself. read more

Very nicely decorated store, but things don't create the experience, people do. Walking in the store I wasn't greeted or even acknowledged with a head nod. A lady is sitting at the counter engrossed in thumbing thru her phone. Prices are high and some items definitely worth it, but others priced high for second hand. I really was trying my hardest to find something to buy but couldn't get passed the lack of customer service. Word to the owner, if you want to be in the retail business have your staff or yourself engage in customer service. A simple hello or welcome in... or today we are offering... for the money you are charging it should come with outstanding customer service. I won't be back. read more

As a new resident of Monterey - Lunablu is already one of my favorite places. Needless to say, the shopping in this town seriously lacks, but this is one place where you can find brands, clothes and accessories that are hard to come by. The only reason why I'm giving this store 4 stars instead of 5 is because I find it hard to browse through the lower rack in the back of the store and the clothes that are showcased - are (in my opinion) not the best items. Unfortunately, if you want to find something amazing here - you have to dig. I feel like this store would be a lot busier and more successful with a little organization. read more

Such a special shop!!! Fun eclectic, vintage home decor and a nice selection of preowned clothing, shoes and bags. The owner has done a fantastic job curating and merchandising all sorts of tempting curiosities. I left with a tribal embroidered table runner and a two pairs of jeans... AG & Genetic Denim. There were a ton of funky knick knacks I wanted as well but now I have an excuse to go back ;-) *regarding comments that the prices are high... please keep in mind this is an independent retailer that pays rent, employees, insurance & all the other expenses that go into running a 'brick & mortar' store. read more

I haven't been back since because I usually have my dog with me when I'm in the neighborhood. ================= My first Review: I recognize this is just my opinion and not all may agree, but so you know where I'm coming from here's my deal: I'm a cheap yet somewhat sophisticated thrift store junkie, middle-aged, very emotionally sensitive, repelled by pretentiousness, some say I can be rather stylish, and I love this store! It's my favorite clothing store in Monterey. Don't be put off by their cool, hipster look because they're always nice, even to a nerd like me who walked in wearing ankle weights and ugly sneakers (while on a power walk). And the best thing is they are very dog-friendly! My dog Darla doesn't mind hanging out here while I shop and they're always nice to her. They have nice clothes at very good prices. The stuff isn't pristine but it's affordable, stylish, wearable with an edge, and worth the money. They've reached a good balance to make the stuff accessible to people who aren't loaded but have good taste. The selection can appeal to a wide range of creative clothing shoppers from a Lady GaGa-inspired high school club goer to the middle-aged pantsuit wearing office worker The store is clean and well-organized. And again, did I say how nice they were? No attitude and they leave you alone unless you want help. I'm very sensitive to mean-ness and no matter how cheap or beautiful the clothes, if the store people were mean, I wouldn't go back, and I go to Luna Blu all the time. Love. read more

This is one of my favorite stores in Monterey, and has been since 2007. I love taking my clothes there, partially because I know what they're looking for as far as style and quality. I always get store credit, because they have clothes there that I would want to buy, anyway. I've never met the owner, but Jackie, the girl who normally runs the shop, is super sweet and helpful all the time. She always greets me warmly, and they always have awesome music playing. The decor, the atmosphere, the setup, the selection - everything is perfect. There are a ton of stores like this in LA, where i went to college, but NONE like this in Monterey - EXCEPT Luna Blu. Maybe I'm just spoiled when it comes to thrift/vintage stores. But I wasn't so impressed by Luna. I sold a few items here (around $60 worth) but I still haven't been able to purchase anything with my store credit. I can't seem to find ANYTHING I'd like to own. The things I liked are always over-priced. I just hope I don't lose my store-credit receipt but maybe it won't make a difference in the end. My expectations were much higher for this place because I'm used to second-hand stores like Buffalo Exchange, which has a much more varied selection with very reasonable prices and friendly staff. The people who work at Luna aren't the friendliest bunch. I'd call them pseudo-counter-culture-fashionistas with an attitude. Still, we have few options in this town. But, given the high prices and low selection, I think you're better off going to Macy's. read more

I went in earlier today and the older lady at the counter (possibly owner?) seemed like it was a chore to greet customers and be there. She looked towards me, gave me a fake smile, then immediately went back to her distasteful look. She followed me around the store as if I was going to steal something. I love this store and always had great experiences and loved the sales associates! Angela was the last sales associate I remember, and she was amazing AND NICE. Update: (2018) mayday mayday NOT what it used to be Updates ya'll: (2015) I have held a long standing relationship with Luna Blu, mostly a love affair. Completely remodeled (2016?). Looks super different (hipster/modern). I'm disappointed. Owners going more for trendy home item wholesale and less of resale. The difference is I think she's more picky on buying. Designer ish items only. She will be less flexible on her buying policy which I find both scant and frugal. I liked the prior floor layout better because everyone knows Monterey is slow to change- why keep up? Lesser selection. I think she's downsized about 35% and replaced with wholesale. Price point is medium to high. Initial review :) ..... First of all, I want to mention that many of the Yelp reviews for Luna Blu are simply outdated. Jackie has not been working there for quite a while, although I agree she was sweet. If you look at it from a Monterey local's point of view: The shop is the only one in the Monterey Peninsula that I consider both adequate and desirable for selling outright and for trade. The other options in town (with the exception of Cat's Meow) are just not even up to par. The way I would look at it, I'd rather sell my clothes to a store where I've found gems, a place that deserves my clothes, and where I would like to see my clothes on the hangers. We all know how hard it can be to 'let go' of very special and unique fashion pieces, esp. if the joint can't offer you a decent price that's at least 35% of what you paid originally. That's why I've sold on Ebay. One alternative for resale is Plato's closet, but it's a shallow corporate business with no style agenda other than generic and underpriced. Ya'll know this.. Their level of quality is just not there. Crossroads on the other hand up in Santa cruz (2 in San Jose) is a decent place. But it's still too close to the Plato's feel. You put your name on a list, you are forced to wait and browse. At Luna Blu i usually go there to shop anyway and try to sell/trade and the selling experience feels more boutique like and authentic than Platos or Crossroads. I have come to the distinct conclusion that the trade stores level of quality depends on the demographics surrounding it. The Crossroads trading in central/Northwest san jose is pretty rough. Why? Because it's near a lot of run down businesses and right off of a busy street in a low income housing area. The south san jose one is much, much better due to its outskirt location in a decent area. The Santa Cruz has a better vibe simply based on location and demographics. If you have a target buyer market to sell your clothes to, consider the area the store is in. What kind of people are in that community, what kind of money do they have, do they prefer designer, chic, bohemian or outdoorsy styles? It seems common that reviewers make snap judgments about a buy/sell/trade establishment due to 1) their anger of not selling 2) neglecting to compare the place fairly. What sets Luna Blu apart from all the rest is that it still manages to maintain a solid BOUTIQUE feel. I don't think the owner of Luna Blu would ever "sell out" for a more corporate agenda. Never! The identity of the store is there, the presence is there. The window displays, for example, have always been eccentric and non-conventional. If you look at it from an outsider's view, coming from SF, Oakland, Berkeley, Santa Monica, etc. The store is probably small and less elaborate than you've expected. This is a small town. I think people might find the quality of some of the clothing there to be less good (again, due to wear). Simply, it's the owners choice to buy clothing from people that, yes, may be a super gorgeous unique piece, but is worn SO much that its barely re-sellable (I.e. boots, tank tops.) Problem with that too is that you don't find these issues til you get home. Oh well. I think people may be dissappointed by the price point. The items are priced in patterns (by category), and each item isn't necessarily priced individually. What does this mean? In my opinion, the pricing can be too high on items because it isn't weighed in. But I see where she's coming from because you have to have "a system." I do think the owner should take the liberty to show her face in shop and tell you which items she'll buy and negotiate price RIGHT THEN AND THERE. I'm not auper fond of the 24 hr drop off, but it's doable. The occasional sales here are pretty good (Usually 20% off) That is all! read more

Luna BLU is a great place to find hidden gems for cheap prices. My favorite pair of suede moccasins were discovered here for $12. I've also picked up a couple of really cute tops and sundresses rather inexpensively. read more
