While I don't disagree that Luna Cafe could be a little cleaner, I was recently told that the building was abandoned for a long time before Luna Cafe came along. This kind of made me feel better because at least we are set up and a place that was previously unoccupied and run down. I went as a birthday group a couple months ago, we each got something different to test out the menu. The ordering process, the paying process and the food took longer than desired but you definitely can use the time to see the cats in the meantime. It's very chill, just go and hang out with some cats. But they have kittens and they like to snuggle and play. This differs from other cat cafes in the area, that don't have as many cats that are likely to come up to you and want you to pet them. The food was pretty good. I had the bento box with the sake chicken. It was pretty good, but kind of small for the price. Another at the table had the beef dish and said it was great but again was small for the price. For dessert they gave us a birthday plate which was awesome, on the house. The dessert was delicious. The onigiri were pretty cool because you can choose different flavors. And the boba tea flavors are awesome. I love that you can get the split cup and try multiple that way. My friend said the brown sugar Bob was delicious. The owner came down and chatted with us a little, was pretty cool... and he's super proud of what he's got there! As he should be. I had time to kill between appointments w my nephew, so we decided to come to Luna to visit the kitties and play in the arcade. I enjoyed the cats and kittens, but the entire place was filthy. The cat room smells really bad. Some of the kittens looked very thin. The arcade was also filthy gross as well as the bathroom. Some of the games didn't work. They legit need a consistent cleaner to come in and CLEAN. I cannot believe this place passes health inspections. Also- their prices are higher than their posted website prices. The drinks were delightful, they have a nice dining space, and now an arcade room. I can definitely see it as a draw for the easily-walked-to University area. It's also right off the Empire State Trail. However, the cat room itself smelled horrendous. I was smacked in the face with the smell of feces as soon as I stepped in and I had to cover my nose with my scarf the whole time. The was cat poop sitting on top of the litter boxes and the staff spraying air freshener did nothing to dampen it. It was off putting enough that I'm unlikely to return to the cat room. I went to an event at Luna Cafe today and it was wonderful. There was quite a nice selection of vendors with interesting and really fun merchandise for sale. Anime, cartoon, gaming, crochet and more. I had never been to the cafe before but now I know I'll be back. They sell food and drinks and I had delicious spicy tuna onigiri and a delicious boba drink ..both special for the Luna Con event today. They have a nice menu with Japanese items and lots of different boba drinks. You pay to spend time in the cat room which helps to support the cats that live there. I want to preface by saying that I ordered takeout from here today, so I didn't get the full cat cafe experience. I tried the boba and gyodon. The gyodon was delicious and filling. So flavorful with lots of meat. The boba was good also. I definitely want to come dine in and try some of their other dishes, specifically the ramen. Happy that Syracuse has a cat café at all, so I hate to say anything negative but was really so disappointed in the experience. The restaurant/café unsanitary - think hair in food and dried food on plates. Also one of the cats escaped the cat room and ran around the restaurant for a bit...I wasn't necessarily expecting outstanding food and was actually happy to overpay in the name of supporting kitties but we were essentially served college struggle meal food. The actual cat room is pretty worn out and could definitely be cleaner especially seeing the upkeep at other cat cafes in larger cities. The cats get plenty of attention from visitors but the employees seem like they could care less. I was asking specifically for the escape cat mentioned above but the response I got was "hm we don't know where she is" - minimal concern for where the cat could have gone off to and no interest in finding this cat a forever home. read more

As a Yelp Elite member for several years now, I really don't enjoy giving bad reviews. But when I have to, well, it's because it needs to be shared. The cafe space is decent. It's a red and black Japanese style with on-theme Japanese cat art adorning the walls. I only saw the big drink menu above the register (mainly includes boba and coffee) but apparently they also have food and snacks that I didn't get a chance to try. The staff were friendly and the cafe area seemed like a decent place to relax from my initial impression. The boba was average. However... the cat room is a completely different story. While they make an effort to utilize vertical space, they generally seem to be running on too low of a budget. In my opinion, they have too many cats in one room (12+), or perhaps not enough cleaning staff, because right upon walking in there I was slapped with the stench of dirty litter, several of the cats being pretty unclean themselves. Although a reasonable request, I found it ironic that the staff asked us to use hand sanitizer before going in there when the place wasn't exactly sanitary itself. I don't think the number of cats is necessarily the problem considering shelters seem to manage the same in better condition. Although I'm glad they're trying to make a difference (with over 160 successful adoptions so far), I strongly question if the staff are qualified to be handling these animals in a rescue capacity, whether that's keeping the room up to a hygienic standard or generally caring for their health and wellbeing. Their only toys come from donations, so they barely had any to play with the cats, either. I just felt bad for them. A dirty environment and nothing fun to enrich them. Considering that this is also a place you're meant to enjoy food, the condition of that cat room is completely unacceptable. Period. I don't plan on returning. read more

The service was excellent and the chef is right on point with his dishes! I was lucky enough to have been there at the right time to enjoy some Cherry stuffed Taiyaki! Some of the best bubble tea I have ever had! The first room is where you have your dinner and drinks and the second room is where all the cats are. The building is super old, but there isn't much they can do about that. The prices are really good for most of their stuff. The quesadilla is a bit small, but it's keto so that makes sense to me. I would recommend either a half hour or an hour on the cat room. Unless your going to spend a few hours in the cat room watching anime, then you'll be good for one hour max with cats. For food, I would definitely recommend their bento or meat ball sundae. They are totally different than other places around here. read more

A great place if you want to entertain your toddler. The food is very traditional Japanese and good. The restaurant part is simple but cozy. Let me start off by saying this is one of my favorite places to go. The staff are the sweetest things around (yes, the cats), and the humans there are ok, too, I guess :-). The smores boba is to die for! Some of the bad reviews may have come from an off day, and the really old ones are not relevant anymore since the cafe was just getting its feet off the ground. For the more current issues, I am sure they would have corrected the issue on the spot because that is how Luna Cafe is. They care about their customers, especially as a small business. They're still growing and learning the best ways to do things. Chain restaurants were there someday as well and have time to mature. For as old as the building is and how disrepaired it used to be, the cafe has a pretty decent ambiance. It doesn't look like a brand new building at all but a decent retrofit into a space. Their recent flooring upgrade was a huge improvement. They can only do so much renting from a landlord and not owning the building. Good food and products sometimes take time. It's not a fast food place, it's's a restaurant, and a pretty good one at that. Give this place a go and you won't be disappointed. I did have a good time but I had some issues, it didn't look they they cleaned the cat room or even vacuumed thoese carpets in a while the room almost stunk, some of the cats where very skinny, they staff was also a bit rude. The food was very low quality for what they where serving the boba tea had no flavor it was basically just water and the bubbles were nothing they had no taste it was also very over priced for such low quality food. The meatballs are absolutely to die for, as is the sake chicken, and the desserts (the pineapple cupcakes and taiyaki....so good!!). It just so happened that I was searching up cafes around Syracuse University and this cafe popped up. I am a huge cat lover and have been trying to convince my boyfriend to get a cat. This cat cafe is Japanese themed and covered with decorations from head to toe. They serve different types of Japanese meals and snacks. I ordered iced matcha latte and a hot coffee. The iced matcha latte did not really taste like what I'm used to but the coffee was great. For 30 minutes, it is $6 per person to play with the cats. An hour is $10.50 and unlimited is $20. If you have a group of 3 or more, you get a 20% discount. Also, if you check in on Yelp, you get a 10% discount. This cat cafe partners alongside a cat adoption center. All but two of the cats in the cafe are adorable. Each of the cats have their own different personalities and Oliver (the cat handler inside the cat room) was super kind enough to tell us their names and their background. It was hard to say goodbye but I knew that the cats are well taken care of at the cafe and will have amazing homes to be in in the future. read more

A friend and I got there around 1:20 pm, ordered 2 bubble teas, and literally did not get them until an hour later. Yes, it was pretty busy, but an hour wait is completely unacceptable. There was only 1 girl running the place with taking orders, bringing food out, and making the drinks, but she kept getting distracted, kept on taking new orders and putting off making the drinks. We noticed one party that ordered after us got their food and drinks before we did. She also kept bringing other people their food before she even thought about making our drinks. The bubble tea was subpar and the boba seemed like it had been sitting there for a while, and I got a lot of large clumps in my cup. For the cat room, it's $7 for half an hour and honestly that is plenty of time. Some of the cats are up for adoption as well, so this is definitely a good place to come if you're looking to bring home a furry friend. Overall, I probably will not be coming back. read more

And kids being kids, we're a little skeptical with things they hadnt tried before. the staff explained each menu item and got it ready while we played and loved on the kittehs. Did you know they've found homes for more than 50?!! awesome! anyway, when our dessert was ready, the staff went the extra mile and wrote happy Birthday in chocolate for the birthday girl with her giant brownie. I have never written a review on yelp but I felt the need to after visiting this establishment. I was visiting a friend who lives in syracuse this past weekend (I live about an hour away) and she mentioned wanting to go to this place because there were cats and boba. So we checked it out and I was highly disappointed. The staff was not very friendly and the boba we got was very bland. We were already planning on visiting the cat room but i felt like the employee was really pushy about it. As if your not allowed to order a drink without paying for a visit with the cats as well. Add in the fact that it's basically a restaurant with a room off to the side with said cats, it just gave me an odd feeling. It's not like any other cat cafe I have visited in the past and I don't mean that in a good way. I would say the visit was a 3/10 as the cats were adorable especially Goliath. read more
