We went here based off the reviews. I don't know how this place has 4 stars. The chips were very hard. My burrito barely had any steak in it. The steak was very fatty and cold. My husband ordered tampiquena medium rare with the enchiladas. He asked for corn tortilla shells. The waitress brought out a burrito instead for him. She ended up bringing out what he ordered, but he got flour shells instead of corn. His steak was well done, and he couldn't even cut through his enchilada with a knife. Both of our beans were cold. I could tell that my colleagues were a little unsure about Luna Mexicana when we arrived. I guess it doesn't look like much from the outside. I led the way and after we entered we were told that we could sit anywhere. We chose a table near the bar. I could tell right away that this place was legit because of the diverse clientele and the fact that the bar had Buchanan's scotch on the shelf. I happen to live in Southern California, where authentic Mexican restaurants are plentiful. I also happen to be vegan, and the reason I suggested Luna Mexicana was because of their vegan menu. I chose the enchiladas, and two of my companions picked non-vegan enchiladas. We sipped tasty, refreshing margaritas and munched on housemade tortilla chips and salsa while we waited for our food to arrive. Service was friendly and pretty fast. Unfortunately, they were out of vegan sour cream, but my enchiladas did come with plant-based cheese, and I almost thought that I was back in Baja. These flavors were the real deal. Now, I loved the salsa verde, but I can take the heat. My poor coworker really couldn't eat her dinner because it was way too spicy for her. You have been warned. First time coming here, my wife recommended this place since it had some vegan options. I knew it wasn't in the best part of town either but I wanted to give it a chance. It was quiet and empty which I thought was odd but the staff was friendly and helpful. Their enchiladas were incredible, prices were fair too. The restaurant is closed down and says open online while still letting you place an order. Made an online order to pick up and went down the street to pick it up just to find out the place was closed. Tried calling the store and nobody was picking up for the past three days. If the restaurant has no business no more they can at least put up a sign saying it's closed or not allow you to do any online orders. read more

when I ordered the fries the actual price was literally not the one in the menu, They did NAWT update the Damm prices. My order was Nachos, the price on the menu was 8.99 but the actual price was 20 if I remember right. the MEAT on the nachos was literally ASS, when I started to eat (right after they bought me my food) the meat was cold, the cheese was frozen asf and kind of chewy, The order of fries came with ketchup and the ketchup had A LOT of water in it for some reason. If yall wanna eat there it's okay but personally I would NAWT recommend eating here, also because when we were paying the lady gave me a weird stare after she realized I was not going to give her a damn tip . We happened to stumble upon this place today looking last minute for a place to eat and BOY AM I GLAD WE DID. It is SOOOOOOO good, the atmosphere is great in there, they're super hospitable and sweet. God bless the cooks because everything she made was awesome. We had the giant quesadilla, the parilla for two, the tacos, burritos and it was all incredible! The lemonade with chia is also a goo choice of drink, pina colada was bomb. Been meaning to go here for a few years now but that damned pandemic got in the way (and date nights are few and far between when you have two kiddos). Came in on a Saturday a little after 6pm and only a few tables were occupied. Being in a blue-collar area where lots of folks are just getting home from work you can tell this place doesn't get hopping until after 8pm. We were greeted right away by the manager who told us to sit anywhere we wanted, so we grabbed a nice two-seater high top by a window. He brought us some amazing, warm homemade salsa (great heat and tons of roasted veggie flavor) and chips. I had a monstrous margarita on the rocks and my wife had a couple of Palomas. Both were filled to the brim and nice and strong with top shelf liquor. We decided on just getting appetizers and went with some guacamole (tons of fresh veggies in it), a large ceviche mixto (octopus, fish, shrimp and mussels) and wife had a plain cheese quesadilla (it was MASSIVE). Manager apologized for the wait on the food (took probably 15 minutes) as they only have one chef and she makes everything to order in their massive open kitchen. I hope she makes every meal we ever have there because the food was LIT! Ceviche was $18 but was a huge platter of FRESH fish that was perfectly prepared - better than I had in Mexico! They have a grande size for $25 and there's no way we could ever finish it without some help - but I sure would try! Guac was great with perfect seasoning, lots of lime and was super fresh. Wife's quesadilla was filled with tons of cheese and came with a side of rice which she said was the best she's ever had. Place is really chill and across the street from Joliet prison (which is long closed) with a nice private parking lot and plenty of street parking, too. Menu is massive with tons of authentic Mexican dishes with an emphasis on seafood, steak and even vegan dishes that you won't find at fast food spots. They do carry out, dine in, delivery and even catering, too. Nice people, amazing food and laid back atmosphere make this place a winner in our book. I am not sure how this restaurant has so many 4 to 5 star reviews. Let me start off by saying that the booster chairs were sticky, dirty and had food on them(I had to use my own wipes to clean it before putting my daughter in it) We visited tonight to celebrate my sisters birthday and it was just us and another table in the restaurant (that should have been a red flag) It was a total of eight of us and they forgot one of our meals. It took them about 40 to 50 minutes to get our food. The waitress had to be hunted down majority of the time for refills. The food was so BLAND. Rice was awful, enchiladas were runny, everything with the food was OFF and gross. Will never be back. Also - my review has nothing to do with covid or them being short staffed. read more

This is some of the best Mexican food I've had. The portions for the price is generous and the flavors are well balanced, delicious, and your can tell the ingredients are quality and fresh. I had a steak huarache and it was generously topped and the base was hand made, soft and flavorful. The steak was a good texture and had so much flavor! My husband got the tampequeña. The steak was well seared, juicy, and delicious. The cheese enchiladas were generous and flavorful, and the rice was the best Mexican rice we've ever had. I usually skip out on rice at Mexican restaurants beacuse its so dry and bland, but my husband insisted I try this! It was moist and cheesy and so flavorful. The beans were fresh and a good texture. The cotija cheese they use is full of flavor too! My dad got the camarones rancheros and he said the shrimp were well cooked, great texture, very flavorful. He got so many too! He said the fries were excellent too. The decor is lovely and the tables and benches are beautifully crafted. The staff is kind and we truly enjoyed our meal. I'm a door dash driver and I went in to pick up an order for a customer but as I walk in I told them who I'm picking up for then they tell me that it won't be ready for another 20 mins. So I let my customer know that and he was okay with it so I wait, but after 30 minutes of waiting still no order so I ask the server and he tells me "Oh I'm sorry we just confirmed the order but it won't be ready for another 2 hours"...yes that's right 2 hours!!! I asked what? Why? My customer has been waiting already 30 minutes. They say they're behind on orders and that they also have a big party coming in. Usually I'm patient but this was ridiculous! They should never have even confirmed the order then. I had to call the customer to tell him what was going. I felt bad for him but we got it cancelled. I was also upset because I wasted my time and gas on going over there for nothing. I will never ever go back to this place! Beware! read more

Found Luna Mexicana on Happy Cow and was beyond excited to see all the vegan options. The owner informed us their rice and beans are also vegan since they don't use chicken stock or lard in anything. They don't advertise vegan options but our waitress said new menus were on the way and will provide all their options. They have soy meat, soyrizo, Daiya cheese and even vegan soy ceviche. Their coffee was also very good. Brewed with Cinnamon sticks to give it that authentic Café de Olla flavor. Don't think twice about visiting. You won't be disappointed. read more

Not quite sure how to rate this place. The communication among the staff and to their customers is majorly lacking. I'm not sure if they were just short staffed today but that should have been communicated. Waited over an hour for our food and never was checked up on to see if we wanted drinks or where our food was. One of the waitresses even ignored my boyfriend when he caught her eye. Our "appetizer" wasn't an appetizer because it came out with our entrees. And the waitress was confused that we expected it before our meal. Friendly service I had the Red Snaper with garlic it was great well cooked great flavor just a lil to much garlic on the top but I would order it again. The sides rice and salad were tasty only that the lettuce was bit bitter but great combination another side was fries they were really good my son ate them all. He enjoyed the fish he really liked it. Dined in last week upon my son's recommendation. He is a vegan and raved about the veggie burrito he had here previously. Once again, he had the burrito which he thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately for me, I ordered the steak tacos. I had a sinking feeling that something was amiss when our food came out so late after ordering. There was only one other party in the place besides us. The plate looked great, but the steak on the tacos was horrible. Very tough, dried out meat. No flavor whatsoever. Wasn't even edible, so I didn't eat it at all.When my waitress asked if everything was ok, I told her my concerns, and she said she'd speak to the cook...she came back and told me that the cook stated she would "get rid of that batch of meat" but never offered me something else. Paid for that meal, they didn't take it off. I know times are tough in the food industry, however...the customer should always be satisfied. They ultimately make you or break you. The only thing good in this place is the micheladas and tortillas. I ordered 2 sopes. One of milanesa de res and the meat was sour. They either left it out or it was old. Im not sure but it was horrible. Never tasted anything so bad. So we told the waitress and she offered to bring something else. I passed. We stayed for a few beers. Our bill was $150 for 4 people. They charged me for my bad sope that I sent back. 4 bucks for market price and a 20% tip. Then when I questioned what "mp" was and why I got charged for my sope the owner came out and got an upset because I was questioning it. Also said she tasted the meat and it was fine. I have ordered from this restaurant twice. The first time they said they never got my order and I had to wait 2+ hours for my food! The food was decent so I decided to give it a try. They didn't make my food how I ordered it and didn't seem too concerned when I expressed how upset I was. The customer service is terrible and the delivery driver is rude and likes to roll her eyes! Do not order from this place. The food was garbage. I had to make my kids chicken tenders as they would not eat it. I preordered 8 hours in advance for a 6:45 delivery and got it at 7:45.
