Adding a 18% tip automatically to the bill is not right. This practice should be mentioned to customers when the bill is delivered. I foolishly didn't notice and left a tip on top of this. Will never go back to a place that delivers sub-par service, that gets rewarded with a guaranteed 18% tip. Food was ok but nothing to ever go back for. read more

I had not looked at the reviews before stepping inside this restaurant. It was a total surprise! There was live music which was a little too loud, but if they toned it down it would be good. The food was delicious! We had a quesadilla and empanadas. Both of these were fantastic. The hot sauces served were very good, but watch out for the heat! Overall, I would go again, but maybe a bit earlier before the music. read more

Great service and great food! Portions are awesome. You'll definitely have leftovers. You get served some fish ceviche and salsas as soon as you sit down. The drink menu is extensive and the live music just melts everything into a good experience. My fiancé and I love coming here. Worst experience in a Mexican restaurant ever! I get it... you have to drive to the other side of Joliet to get Mexican seafood, but this was inedible! I ordered the whole snapper and my bf ordered the salmon. His dish came out in 2 minutes. Precooked, bland and room temperature. My dish, what I've ordered for years in dozens of Mexican restaurants, came out 15 minutes later, as he was just about done, overcooked to the extreme! Black in spots, no edible flesh. It must have been cooked and recooked at least twice. A friend arrived as my fish arrived. She is a chef at a local restaurant. I stuck my fork in and she asked... did you order it like that? I could not see any flesh left just 3/4 inch of dried jerky on all sides. She said you have to send that back. I laughed... told her to touch it... it was not even warm. Huachinango a ajo always comes out sizzling hot. It was gross. They said that's how they make it. I didn't eat. This place got good reviews in the first month but now everyone I mentioned this to said it's gross now. And, to top it off, they don't have chips or beans or a SINGLE option for those who do not eat fish. They give you a pack of tostada shells with room temperature ceviche. Not even a decent salsa. Dangerous practices and unconscionable service. Hopefully they will be gone soon and a good place can open. read more

It's hard to find a good seafood restaurant, especially when the prices can be so high. It makes me wonder, is it worth it? Personally, I am a seafood lover. I always find myself trying new seafood places, but I always end up with bittersweet feelings. The last time I tried a new restaurant I swore I would never eat seafood again, it's like each bite was a bite straight out of the very salty ocean! This time around, me and my family were recommended to try out this new restaurant by many family members, and of course we just had to trust them from all the good reviews made. Trying out Mariscos El Vallartazo in Joliet was definitely a fun and enjoyable experience, nothing like ever before ! To start off, the aura of the restaurant was incredible. The restaurant's theme was of an ocean, and the walls were of water with the average animals you'd see in the ocean. They had wooden steering wheels of ships on specific parts and places, and the wooden tables also fit the theme of the ship along with the ocean. Along with that they had a wooden bar in which you can see them prepare any beverage. They also had large TVs everywhere with news and shows playing to keep you distracted meantime. Although I can say, walking into the restaurant was like walking into a surprise party. There's music playing the whole time, and if not from the speaker, they have latino musicians playing live there while you enjoy your food! Me and my family personally enjoyed the music that was played, we were having our own little concerts at our table while waiting for our plates. The food and service was outstanding. We were greeted very kindly by our server and seated when the chance was given. She was very mindful of us and always made sure to come back and check on us throughout our dinner. While ordering she was good at recommending plates and beverages which made our experience even more enjoyable since there wasn't really that stress of choosing a plate from their widely ranged menu. I was looking more on the fish side of the menu so the server recommended trying the huachinango plate (a pan fried fish), and let me just say, I do not regret going with it. When the plate was brought to me, I stared in shock at how good it looked! It was cooked to the perfection, the fish was not too crispy, nor too soggy and it had just the right seasonings to it. The inner layer of that first bite was so tender and full of flavor. Sided with my fish was rice and a salad. The rice was topped with a green salsa made from lime and jalapenos. I love spicy things so the salsa really brought that missing taste to the very soft rice. The salad was also refreshing to eat after the fish and rice. Some other plates that were ordered at my table were fried shrimp, shrimp wrapped in bacon, and devil shrimp (camarones a la diabla, which is just shrimped smothered in a red spicy, but creamy, salsa), and everyone absolutely loved their plates. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I would definitely rate this restaurant 5 stars. The joy and singing, along with the delicious food really made this a noteworthy experience. I will definitely be back at Mariscos El Vallartazo again in the near future. I also would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves seafood and is also looking for an uplifting place to have dinner at! read more
