The surgery I had here in 2018 somehow fell apart, so I needed it done again. If I had any…read morealternatives, I would be crazy to go back to this clinic - but since I don't, I went to them again. I already knew before I even got started that I needed surgery, but I still had to go through FIVE appointments just to get the surgery scheduled. This stretched out for well over a month, with me being in pain the whole time. Every time I needed an appointment, I had to call them, talk my way past a useless robot, and then get put on hold for an obscenely long time. Then at the office, they kept me waiting 30-60 minutes past my scheduled appointment time every time. Maybe your office wouldn't be so hopelessly swamped if you didn't force people to go through a ridiculous number of unnecessary appointments. When I finally got the surgery scheduled, I had to go to a hospital very far away in Oregon City, even though there are plenty of closer options, and communication on the day before the surgery was not as clear as it should have been. On the day of the procedure, I was forced to wait outside in the cold and then walk a long distance around the outside of the hospital, while starving, all because of blatantly wrong signage on the hospital. After the surgery, they referred me to physical therapy, who refused to take my insurance even though it is a division of the same company, forcing me to enter another round of phone tag and ultimately figure PT out on my own. They gave me a brace with pads that fall off way too easily, and told me that I was required to wear it everywhere at all times. Well surprise surprise, some of the pads got lost. When I called them to ask for help replacing the pads, they were unable to help, leaving metal digging directly into my skin. I ultimately had to remake the pads myself using supplies from a crafts store. They also failed to provide me with the crutches I needed, and I had to supply my own. I needed multiple doctor's notes for my work and for the Employment Office. Are you sitting down? ROC charges you $30 every time you need a note. My insurance already paid them over $60,000, but why miss yet another opportunity to nickel-and-dime patients and kick us when we are down? I think this is disgusting and greedy (although it is not illegal). ROC subjected me to every hassle they possibly can. This experience was extremely stressful, and the whole process could have been completed in just the time it took for the surgery to be scheduled.

He chose them based on their background in the McKenzie spine techniques of manual therapy that are evidence based and provide results that have not only freed her from pain, but started the restoration of function after only a few visits. At about 4 months I had a pain level of 10 with swelling and bruising. The message never got to DrSchabel as she isn't allowed to see MyChart messages even if they are addressed to her. After 3 months of pain. And increasing disability I called to get an appointment with Dr Schabel. I was told that I would have to wait 2 months to see her. I had to exercise extreme pressure to get in to see her. When I finally got in ,Dr Schabel diagnosed that the knee had come loose. I endured months of pain and increasing disability with no one paying attention. I had to have a revision surgery. It is too bad that an outstanding surgeon is working in a system that has such abysmal follow up. OHSU relys on PAs for all post surgery follow up. Communication with the doctor is by My Chart. However the doctors don't see the My Chart messages addressed to them. It is the PA who answers for the doctor. The doctors are booked at least two months out and it is almost impossible to get an appointment with the physician, You are told that your only option is to see the PA. I love Dr Schabel but hate the system.

Last surgery they cut off pain meds put you on Gabapentin leaving me in agony.. they kept me in the hospital 10 days I ended up getting blood poisoning from the hospital had to get a PICC line threaded into my heart to administer antibiotics IV Port for 3 months. When I told Dr Schabel she rolled her eyes...told me she expects her patients to work w her in regard to pain medication. My first red flag the audacity that she wants to be sparing with opiates when you have titanium pounded into your bone it's insanity! She said after the first prescription she doesn't want to give refills... she said she likes to put her patients on Tylenol alternating w Ibuprofen if you can imagine such a thing. She said "are you on pain medication now?" I said yes, she said she wanted me to stop taking it didn't ask me why knows nothing about me physically.. She didn't hear a word I said all she cares about is doing exactly what she wants to do & how she wants to do it. Ive lived a healthy lifestyle I've never abused drugs. I'm 71 yrs they're going to deny me opiates after BONE SURGERY? I had been going to all my pre-op appts but after I met w her I've been so anxious.. After a few weeks & many sleepless nights I decided to cancel my surgery. Not to be unkind but I couldn't refer Dr Kathryn Schabel to anyone.
