We just moved to the area under a couple with a baby told us to come in as we were looking at the menu as they eat here all the time and it's fantastic well sadly it was anything but fantastic it was very busy so service was slow, but that's not their fault entirely The focaccia was thin like a cracker I expected a light fluffy bread so maybe they could explain that the pasta was not al dente it was completely raw. I could not eat it and the muscles with the muscles I've ever had really not good which we also had the seafood pasta just tasted the same. The portion was so large it was also offputting. Situated near to the busy Portobello Road Luna Rossa is a cosy Italian which I have often walked past. Last Monday feeling very hungry I decided to give it a go. The restaurant was dotted with other couples enjoying an early dinner and we were greeted warmly by a waiter who led us to a corner table. However we were a bit annoyed while we waited for our drinks and could clearly see our waiter (holding our drinks!) talking to someone at the bar. All was forgiven when our food arrived- my pizza was HUGE and my boyfriend described his calzone (stuffed with roasted ham, peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella and ricotta) as a good 'man sized' portion! Despite our hunger we still struggled to finish our feast. Italian is not my favourite type of food always piped to the post by Caribbean and Chinese but Luna Rossa could easily change my mind. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger 'I'll be back' and next time I'll be ordering the calzone. read more

Strolled over here for some comfort foodpasta! We tried the spaghetti vongole and rigatoni. The food came out fast which was great because we were starving and in a hurry! The spaghetti had a nice spicy kick and the cherry tomatoes added a nice bright pop to the dish. The rigatoni were nice big cylinders that caught all of the yummy sauce. Luna Rossa is a traditional Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Notting Hill and we had a very lovely evening there. The place had a great buzz and from the second we stepped in it almost felt like we were transported straight to Italy. We were welcomed immediately and the whole evening was just one win after another. There was no trouble getting a table but there was still a nice amount of people in the restaurant - perfect! For starters I had the mussels and they were absolutely delicious. Only thing is that they don't bring you bread automatically so next time we will be sure to order some to dip with the mussel dish as the sauce was to die for. It had a nice little chili kick to it too which I loved. For the main course I had the Gnocchi in a simple tomato sauce with homemade fresh Burrata (oh my god) and it was amazing! I also had a nice glass of Pinot Grigio with my dinner. For dessert I went for the classic Tiramisu and even though it was good, it was definitely the low point of the dinner unfortunately. The dish was quite cold as they seem to freeze the desserts - I don't like that at all. Also the portion was so huge I couldn't finish it. My friend ordered Gelato for dessert and she requested some chocolate sauce on top. When she got her dessert there was no sauce because it had ran out - and instead of only apologising to us, the staff brought us both complimentary Limoncello shots :) This is how you get people to come again, which we will surely do! And as a cherry on top, as we were leaving the restaurant the owner came to us and introduced himself and asked our names followed by giving us both big hugs and kisses on the cheeks and welcomed us back again. Went to Luna Rossa on a last minute decision last evening, as we wanted to take a friend from Dublin out for dinner as he was leaving today. Waiters were friendly and all spoke Italian, 'Buona Sera' and all that. The decor is typical faux Italianate, with exposed brick arches, check table cloths and semi-rustic props, all very nice. Foodwise, the pizza menu was very good, all pizzas are square, 25cm square to be exact and are served up on a wooden palette on legs. They are of the thin crust variety which is what I like. Prices for pizzas are in the £8 - £10 per slice range and I ordered Rucola and Parma Ham which I thought was great and filling but a little salty. The others in my party ordered : Spaghetti Carbonara : verdict : "Fine" Calzone : verdict : "Tasteless with insufficient filling" Spaghetti Vongole : verdict "very good" Veal scaloppina with lemon sauce : verdict "tough meat, starchy lemon sauce, potatoes were tasty" Wine : Trebianno Sicilia £15:00 : very good All in all, it was fair. By 9:30pm the restaurant was pretty full for a Tuesday evening, so kudos to them. One couple that came in and sat next to us was unnoticed by the waiters despite given their menus, and after about 15 minutes, they just stormed out! Customer service, where are you? Will I go back? TERRIBLE experience with delivery effort from Luna Rossa. 90 minutes after placing an order, when I called in, I was told that they only only had one driver and that the 30-40 minute delivery estimate (already long overdue) would be delayed further, another 30 minutes, to be precise. That's 2 hours for a pizza from 10 minutes away, with no warning and no expectation set. The Assistant Manager was supremely unhelpful, claiming that it wasn't his fault, and that there were plenty of other customers waiting as well. Never again. read more

Went here recently with a larger crowd - and no advance booking. We ended up in the basement where the decor was even less imaginative than upstairs. Kensington Park Road is becoming a bit of a pizza high street. The food is great - but the atmosphere lags far behind the original Made in Italy in Kings Road. Next time I fancy a pizza I'll probably head back to my old favourite Osteria Basilico across the road. read more

A personal favourite in the Notting hill area. Great tasting Tuscan/Sicilian wines accompanied by some amazing homemade pizzas - personal favourite being the calzone pizza. The food is really outstanding considering the comparably low price. Very authentic Italian food in an already competitive market in the Notting Hill / Holland park area. I really enjoyed my dinner here on Saturday. But a word of warning: The restaurant is a twenty minute walk from Notting Hill Gate. Why is that important? Well the Jubillee line was down. I live in South East London. I got to dinner twnety minutes late, and had to leave before coffee and dessert because they didn't take our dessert order for ages. But the rest of the food was yummy :-) I had sea bass and pasta and everyone had all sorts of yummy things. There was a point where we were silent for ten minutes because we were all eating such tasty food. My Sea Bass? £12.50. Very tasty indeed. I like it here, but you've either got to get here early at the weekend, or come when they're less busy. If you don't live in the area it's a bit of a trek. Great food, but I would have liked to have been able to stick around for dessert. read more

I went to Luna Rossa recently on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, tempted inside by the sight of a family tearing apart what looked like an amazing wood-oven cooked pizza from a wooden trestle which straddled the tabletop. The two of us were seated, nay, jammed into the one busy part of the restaurant with hardly room to squeeze into our chairs. If it weren't for the presence of a large Neapolitan-style wood fired oven, then we would have left. The interior of the restaurant is somewhat tacky - fibreglass 'bricks' and bucolic artefacts adorning nooks, trying to be outside, inside, but failing. A little tacky. So this review is about the pizza really. My wife and I both thought that we'd have something simple - a margherita pizza (our pizza benchmark). Since we both wanted the same, we could order half a metre as opposed to smaller round pizzas. When it came out, it looked amazing. We also got the sharp knives and wooden trestle on our table. And it was amazing. We've both had pizza in Naples, and from some more traditional places in Sorrento and Rome, and this did not disappoint. Beautiful blistered dough, just the right thickness, and a simple but tasty topping. Perhaps the only improvement could have been the base sauce, which was really good, but could have been a tiny bit better. It was undoubtedly the best pizza I've had in the UK, but what a shame about the restaurant itself. I'll definitely go back for the pizza alone, but will try out a few of the other places on Kensington Park Rd too. If you like 'proper' pizza, it's definitely worth checking out. read more

Great Pizza and tasty ingredients. Took a Sicilian friend and all he complains about is the London has no good Pizza places and he was surprised how the good the pizza is. Four of us ate here and three were Sicilian and all agreed the Pizza was very good. I have been here many times and enjoy it. The Pizza can be made in several sizes if you are hungry enough. Friends of mine recommended me Luna Rossa - so when I came here with my boyfriend we expected to have an amazing time and great authentic Italian food. The atmosphere in this restaurant was vibrant and easy going but the staff experience was quite disappointing. However, my boyfriend and I ordered the "one meter pizza" and I must say it was good but I wasn't blown away by the pizza. (FYI: it was definitely not an one meter pizza but anyway...per person costs roughly around £11) All in all, a just an OK experience. read more

Luna Rossa is a solid neighbourhood choice. It's part of the Made in Italy chain, and has a bit of that family-friendly look with the mock Italian decor (and also because families are often there), but still... I do like it for a casual lunch or dinner. I recently had an underwhelming salad there for lunch but the excellent bread (homemade on the premises, yum) and reasonably priced wine more than made up for it. Stumbled upon this place because everywhere else in Portobello Road were fully booked. This place was a good place to resort to when you're out of luck. Your average pizza and pasta offerings at a decent price. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. Tight dining room but it still felt intimate in a way. The first step into the restaurant screamed authentic Italian restaurant. However, I was expecting all the traditional frills with the dining experience. No bottles of balsamic vinegar or good quality olive oil at the table ready to be used for drizzling or dipping. Also no fresh side table bread as you would expect at any Italian meal. Overall, good experience and got a nice meal out of it. Initially service took too long but out waitress ended up being fabulous. read more

On the site of the former cult 90s Notting Hill restaurant (called 192, its number on Kensington Park Road), Luna Rossa is another Italian restaurant targetting the local crowd as well as the toursists from their weekend tour of Portobello Market. First the bad news: the deco. So bad that it is almost a complete turn-off. They turned this place into a kind of fake Italian Trattoria with visible bricks, fake doors on the wall and a patchwork of Mediterranean colors on the wall. Combined with the cheap metallic chairs in silver and blue it's pretty horrible. And the good news: the food and the service. We had pasta and pizza and both were very good, really tasty. The pizza felt for real and the pasta wwas perfectly cooked. We were with our 2 little girls (aged 4 and 2) and the team was particularly friendly and attentive with them. So in summary a good local Italian at a decent price (we ate for £10 a head) but next time I think that we will stick with Osteria Basilico which is just oppsite 192 (just as good and with a nice deco and plenty of light if you are upstairs). read more

We ate here 3 out of 7 nights that we stayed in London. Order pizza #1. Few ingredients...simple and delicious.

We've been to this restaurant just today for a late lunch. In fact we intended to have lunch at a more reasonable hour but the first time we tried there were no available tables outside. Despite the unfriendly attitude of the waiter we went back for a second chance after a couple of drinks at a pub. This time we were accepted and seated at a table outside. Luckily we were served by a rather friendlier waitress but this wasn't enough to make up for the stone - in fact in wouldn't be exaggeration to call it a rock! - that came out of our rocket parmesan salad. The pizza was below average with very poor cheese and ingredients we basically ate stone baked bread with lots of tomato sauce. Considering the quality of of food and service the price was a bit high. For 25 GBP per person you can have much better quality - at least stone free - food with a friendlier service. It's impossible to have unfriendlier service anyway if they are not beating customers in restaurants here. I'd say the only advantage of the restaurant is its spot but there are at least three or four other Italian restaurants on the same street, which could be tried before jeopardising a tooth for a salad. read more

I have been eating here on and off for the past five years, since I used to live in Notting Hill. All I can say is that i went to Luna Rossa recently and it was a shrivled shadow of it former self. It must have been taken over by new owners, as the service was poor, the food was burned in parts and I have never had a salty pizza base until i went here. all this adds up to it being overpriced for what it is. it was fairly busy when i went last week, but i can see that changing in the future.
