Update: As promised, we returned for dinner. Got a beef tartar with fried asparagus starter which was good, but not great. The quail egg which accompanied it was a bit overcooked and the beef itself was good, but not seasoned as well as other tartars I've had. I got a pizza with ham, pepperoni, onions and olives. Well cooked, thin, but not cracker crust, and good mix of toppings and cheese. We also had another pasta dish which was quite good as well, although the name of the dish escapes me. read more

I have been in Sarracino Restaurant many times and always enjoyed the food. Apologise to write down this negative review but yesterday night, when I was waiting for my dishes downstairs I saw the chef to put the fingers in the nose and then kneading pizza with nonchalance. I felt disgusted. I hope this not occurs anymore. read more

Proper old skool Italian where the waiter flirts with all the diners, sprinkles parmesan on request and offers pepper from a massive grinder ... It's been a few weeks now since my visit and it's hard to imagine how cold it was this April. At first the hot air blown from the air conditioning unit above our table seemed welcome, but after a while it just got too hot. Luckily staff were happy to reseat us to another table and we managed to have a meal without hot flushes. I opted for pizza while my friend had a pasta dish with lamb. Both tasted home made and were very satisfying, washed down with a bottle of house red. A great neighbourhood restaurant, no frills, just decent comfort food. read more

The pizza in this place wasn't bad, but I've experienced much, much better. I had the Porto Fino (with porcini mushrooms) which wasn't bad (slightly better than average) but my friend was particularly disappointed with his Calzone. In my search for best pizza in London then this was way down the list. The 2 stars I've given may seem a little harsh, as the place probably warrants 5/10 (but certainly not 6). If you fancy a pizza in West Hampstead then I wouldn't disuade you. However for a similar price you'll get a much better pizza at Fratelli du Bufala in Hamspstead (a short walk or bus ride). read more

A nice place, and its always bustling when I walk by. The service is charmingly friendly and quite attentive, much better than average. We did some times have to ask twice for something like water (tap), and then mistakenly got charged for a drink we didn't order. The food is ok but just not something I would really want again. We had one pizza and one pasta. Took half the pizza home, and it didn't reheat particularly well (and I have a lot of experience reheating pizza!). If you live in the area, there are better options, or I would recommend staying home and ordering from Lupa. read more

Sarracino Restaurant is offering nothing special but good old fashion traditional Italian food. The food and pricing is relatively good value. Be warned the restaurant is very noisy and slightly crammed, we have been here twice and found the service staff to be unusually unfriendly and arrogant, their service felt rushed, disinterested and a little sloppy. This detracts from the restaurants atmosphere. All in all it's worth a visit for a casual middle of the week eat out. My biggest tip is to stay away from the salad bar option, it is neither fresh nor appealing. What I've tried on the menu though is good but not great. Another unusual thing we observed is you aren't given any complimentary bread unless you ask or order garlic bread..... Very strange. I would eat here again if I had no better options. read more

Four stars for the food, two for the service. We made reservations here for Friday night, and thank goodness we did - every table when we walked in was either occupied or had a reserved sign on it. When we went up to the host and gave our name, he looked around and shrugged his shoulders, then asked us if we were sitting downstairs. Uh, we don't know - we just booked a table, we didn't decide where our table was. He decided we must be downstairs, so, downstairs we went. The downstairs is a bit eh, but it's fine - I was mostly concerned that we weren't the only ones down there, and we weren't - five of the 13 tables were occupied. I think it would be really uncomfortable being alone down there. Our waitress was a bit... rushed? We felt very rushed, she gave us only a minute or two before asking for our order. When the mains came, she moved my bread plate *as I was still eating off it* (no, really, I was putting a piece of bread on the plate and then suddenly the plate wasn't there). However, when we were done, it took ages to get our check. Anyway, the food was good. I had a pasta dish with aubergine and smoked cheese which was pretty fantastic, but the pizza my husband had was your typical less-than-crispy pizza dough topped with a light tomato sauce and a few dollops of mozzarella scattered throughout. This is the best restaurant in West Hampstead and one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to in London. I absolutely love the neighborhood, family owned restaurants and I haven't found many in London that are amazing. This is the place. It is always packed and is a favorite of Italian's living in London. They make the most amazing wood-fired pizzas and are just overall incredibly charming. read more

Sarracino is a good Italian restaurant in West Hampstead. I recently went there for a pizza and had a white quattro formaggi. Delicious and quite big. The recently changed house white was also not bad. I just found that the restaurant somewhat lacks atmosphere. When I'm not looking for a pizza, I'd prefer the other Italian restaurant next door it just feels a bit nicer, perhaps because it's slightly smaller?! read more

Popped in for an early lunch. A really good choice on the menu with seasonal dishes. Big portions, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The sea bream was good as was the mozzarella starter. The lady wasn't overly impressed with the margarita pizza - the dough was a bit chewy and the tomato sauce a bit too tart. Wouldn't mind trying again though read more

Brilliant Italian restaurant in West Hampstead. Clean location right beside trains and bus stops. Friendly and helpful staff with an amazing selection of pizzas, pastas, and wine. Highly recommend ordering the "spaghetti quadrati all'astice, pomodorini e peperoncino" and the "Trofie con rugú d'agnello con scaglie di grana." Will definitely be back again. read more

Booked on the day and they had space. Arrived and they were very welcoming. Great service throughout. Food was unbelievable, they had incredible specials and I struggled to pick something. Really, it doesn't get any better than this for Italian food in West Hampstead. My partner is from New York, where you get the best Italian food outside of Italy, and he adores this place. Both of our dishes were superb, and the service was excellent. The servers were very attentive without being overly so, and the ambience, although nothing to write home about, was perfectly pleasant. The prices are great as well, so you don't leave with a bittersweet feeling, like yeah the food was good, wish it would last me a week since I can't afford another meal now. All in all, we left feeling really happy that we had discovered it, and we can't wait to go back. Great for a mellow night with a friend or partner. Bottom line, Sarracino just is really good food, and they don't kick you on the way out with an outrageous bill. read more

Pizzas are good and the chilli oil is actually chilli. Service was fine too, though there is a mandatory 12.5% charge on the bill. But the deserts were really disappointing, a dry, bloodless tiramisu, the tiniest sliver of apple pie with almost no apple in it and a cheesecake you needed a magnifying glass to see. And the chairs - they look great and traditional, but so uncomfortable! Strange as it may seem, it ruined the experience for me. read more

I visited this restaurant yesterday with some visiting family from overseas. The food was good but the staff could not have been more UNHELPFUL. When asked if we could replace a glass of wine in the set menu with a lemonade. they thought that 'this would not be possible.' I ordered a lamb and mushroom pasta dish and after a good half hour wait they produced pasta with aubergine and peppers for me (my two most unfavourite foods). At first they tried to insist that this is what I had ordered and when I objected, they did offer to cook the dish that I had originally ordered.Taking into account that by this time we had been at the restaurant for over an hour with a tetchy 4 year old, I suggested that I didn't want to wait and eat when everyone had finished their food. I suggested that they should not charge me for my meal....Well... they went away had a chat and then offered to charge me for the vegetarian pasta ( which is clearly what they had served me). I refused. They then returned to say that they would only charge me £4 for my dish. I said it was outrageous and the service was terrible. I have no idea what the end result was, as the bill was totalled up into 'drinks' and 'meals' and they had the cheek to already add the service charge to the bill! I asked if they had removed the cost of my meal from the bill and they said they had. I said that I objected to paying the service charge, but the waitress took my card and when the machine was handed to me to enter my pin, the total including service had been entered. Had I been on my own, I would have insited on an itemised bill, as I have a feeling that I did end up being charged for my meal and I would have insisted that the service charge be removed. As it was, one of the ladies I was with had booked the restaurant and I didn't want to upset her by making a fuss. However, as you can see I am still very angry about it and trying to get it out of my system right here! DO NOT GO THIS RESTAURANT!! read more
