My fiancé and I moved here 6 months ago from Las Vegas and have been on the search for a great mexican restaurant. We continue to be disappointed. The food at Lupe Tortilla is average at best. Now couple average food with a 2 drink max, yes a 2 drink max. We ordered these margaritas containing fresh lime juice, cointreau and Don Julio. They were very good but they came in a small rocks glass? We were only permitted to have 2 each of these special tiny drinks...but regular margaritas, your max is 3. WHAT? I have never, ever been in an establishment that has drink limits. If you are looking to take the kids out, then this is the place for you. Don't come here if you're in a hurry! Very, very busy on a Wednesday. Hostess was rude, wouldn't let us know a wait time because we had a large party. We were fine waiting, we just would like a ball park quote like every other hostess does. She also didn't tell us a large area near the bar was self seating. All in all, the people working up at the hostess desk seem to have an attitude. That knocked them down a star in my book. Drinks and food were very good, top notch Mexican especially the fajitas and chicken enchilladas with the green sauce. Tortillas were amazing. Disappointingly the queso was orange velveeta goop. Been regulars at this restaurant since it opened. Met friends for dinner and ate in bar area. When Bill arrives they've overcharged us for two margs. Bring to waiter's attention who disagrees. We get manager who argues with us, then insults us by implying we were too tipsy to know what we've ordered! We only had 2 margs each! Refuses to remove $16 from our bill! For that amount he's lost 4 loyal customers and their business. We've always suspected they've padded our bill when we've gone in large groups, now we know. The food tastes great, but the service is usually slow and incorrect. We've eaten here several times because it tastes so good, but more than half the time we've gotten the wrong food and waited way too long for it. Today was the last straw. We waited 15 minutes just to get menus. Then, half the table got the drinks...the rest waited another 10 minutes for their drinks. 30 minutes later the food arrived, but three orders were wrong or missing something. All the drinks emptied and no one came to fill them. Never going back to this restaurant again. read more

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of the food at Lupe. I've been to at least five different Lupe locations, many many times. I was extremely excited when I found out a Lupe was being built in Katy, less than 10 minutes from my house. The first time I dined at this location (very soon after they opened), everything was great; food, drinks, and service were just as I had come to expect. The next three to four visits almost make it seem like I'm not even at the same restaurant. Issues with service, very slow to be seated with no comfortable place to wait (especially on hot days), problems with food quality (which has never happened at any other Lupe), and perhaps worst of all the way all of that is handled by management is a joke. It took 40ish minutes from order to table for a party of 4. I had the Lupe Chicken fajita rolls. They were bland at best and the chicken was so dry that I only ate 1/2 of the two fajitas. The waiter asked if I was unsatisfied with the food and I said yes and explained why. The manager never stopped by the table to inquire why the food was not up to par. We were billed for the meal, even though 3/4 of it was sent back. However, the margaritas were very good, but the serving portion was small relative to the 8.00 plus price. Won't go back. This is of course a chain. People always love to bash chains, but some chains offer consistency. And living in Katy for years we have had nothing but mom and pop places. It was time for a few GOOD chains. Lupe's is one. Beef fajitas are solid but you have to enjoy lime in your marinade. If not you will not like theirs. It is still always packed though not new anymore. Nice place for late lunch. Now the gripes that cost them 2 stars. Service and attitude. The crowds and popularity give them an attitude at times. It is like they are doing you a favor by serving you. This has been my experience with a group of 8 around the patio area and with just the wife and I once. It may no longer be there but they had comment cards posted on their wall before. Many of which were positive but they also posted negative comment cards with snarky rebuttles written on the bottom. This is a good Mexican place but never forget you are a Mexican place in a Houston suburb. You are a dime a dozen. Your food can make you shine, but if your staff is rude or the entire attitude of the establishment is that we are lucky to be there? Even a solid name like Lupe's can fail. Went here on a Friday night at 7pm. Despite being busy with a 30+ minute wait, we tried for a table in the bar... The bar server told us when a couple was getting ready to leave and asked if he could bring us drinks while we waited. That was just the start of the awesome service we received. Our appetizers were swift, our fajitas were deliciously sizzling and our drinks never ran low. Again being incredibly busy on a Friday night, we sat, ate, enjoyed ourselves and all before our name had been called for the regular dining room The staff blew my mind with impeccable service. Sitting here with my button undone. So full. That's my fault, but the good food at Lupe Tortilla's is to blame. We went for an early dinner on mothers day. It was crazy packed. I told the hubby if it was longer than an hour we were leaving. We were sat right away (guess sometimes it pays being DINKs)expecially on holdiays when everyone has a party greater than two.) We had margaritas and queso...not great, but not bad. But then we get the fajitas...oh yeah...that's why they Lupe's is the best! And the homemade tortillas...yum! They do beef fajitas the best ever. The Original Lupe's is Hwy 6 and I-10, This was is owned by the same guy, Stan Holt. Best beef fajitas in Texas. Flour tortillas are awesome, and the best corn tortillas I have ever had. I used to love coming to this place, but unfortunately the last times I've came here, the service has been very bad. In one opportunity, the waitress was actually very rude. I was laughing with my family and she came to ask us what we were laughing about in a very rude way, and it was nothing to do with her. I thought that was a one time thing, I thought maybe the waitress was having a bad day and we decided to ignore it, but it has been pretty much the same since then. Lastly, and the reason why I decided to write this review, I ordered food to go and the experience was even worse. I paid more than $100 for what it supposed to be 1 1/2 lb of mixed fajitas for 5, and realized when I got home that there was not 1 1/2 lb of meat, not even close, and only 1 super small portion of guacamole. Sorry but I don't think I'll keep trying coming to this place anymore read more

After eating at various Lupi's we tried the one in Katy. Needless to say it is not the "original ". Took time to get seated Took time to get or drink order placed Took TIME to get our order On my order I requested to have them leave the cheese off of the top of my enchilada. When the order came our server - now get this - told me they had to leave the cheese on top since the chili gravy had the cheese in it. Kind of believable except the cheese was exactly in the center on top of my enchilada. Amazing cook if they can get the cheese cooked in the gravy to land exactly in the center of an enchilada. What I was glad to see is that they now offer tamales. They were very good. It would be nice if they were just slightly larger than something you might consider an appetizer. Will continue to eat at Lupi's just not the one in Katy. read more

Lupe food is always wonderful, and this location is perfect for kids - there's a nice large sandpit with loads of toys in an enclosed area, and there's also a changing table in the ladies bathroom (Yay!). My only complaint is that on a $45 meal, the suggested tip amounts were ridiculous. I always tip 20%, I feel this is very generous. However the suggested tip amounts started from $12 on a $45 check this is well over 25%, and ranged up to about 40%. At that level we simply couldn't afford to eat at Lupe, so I'm not sure what we are supposed to do - go home feeling guilty that we didn't tip enough, or just not go there in the future (and not contribute anything to Lupe employees). I use to love Lupe's! I would take the kids so they could play in the amazing sand playground. The margarita's are amazing. This time around I went on a Wednesday and they were busy. We waited an hour, not terribly bad. Then we were seated and it was hot. I mean we were all sweating even the baby. We ordered almost right away because the kids were hungry. We waited an hour and asked how much longer, they didn't give us a time or an explanation. The kids were hungry and the baby was upset. We ended up leaving without eating. Absolute horrible service. Definitely would not go back, waited a hour to receive our food and people who sat after us received their food before we did. It took us 5 times asking for refills of water before we got them, we asked multiple servers for one Togo box. There was no a/c in the restaurant, so multiple people were fanning their self with menus and even saw a server run into a older lady as she was getting up to leave. My rating isn't for all Lupe tortillas but you definitely shouldn't waste your money at this one. read more

In my opinion, Lupe's is the first Tex-Mex restaurant in Katy worth eating at. The ranch beans and salsa that come with the chips before the meal are great -- I could probably make a meal from those beans alone!! I'm not really sure what the hype is about the fajitas...they're ok, but I find the beef fajitas a bit greasy. Chicken fajitas are more to my liking here. I would recommend the tortilla soup (slightly spicy), flautas (very cheesy), or the chicken/steak/shrimp Lupe (your choice of meat covered in pico de gallo and jack cheese). The entrees are served with refried beans (not as exciting as the ranch beans, but similar in flavor) and rice. The homemade tortillas that come with the fajitas are exceptional, as are the piña coladas. My daughter would recommend the cheese enchiladas. The staff is very friendly. Lupe Tortilla is pretty popular regardless of the location, but I've found that the location matters. This location and the original restaurant at Highway 6 are very good. I thought the one along I-10 in Spring Branch was not that good. On the down side, it can get loud and crowded (if you go on a Sunday after church or a Friday night, prepare to wait), and the décor is pretty weird. But the food makes up for it. The kids do love the big sand pit play area, and this location has a small spigot for washing hands and feet when the parents pull the kids out for dinner. read more
