When I am in the mood for real Mexican food, this is the place I go to. Most of the time I get the chicken burrito ,but I am not afraid to try new things. The tongue taco is really good as well. I know it sounds more like bazar foods, but it taste like a tender steak. They also have a market, so you can shop there when you want to cook your own Mexican meal. read more

Authentic Mexican restaurant and grocery store. Someone said to update but updating the restaurant and the charm goes away. The service was excellent. The owner does the cooking and her daughter is a server. She was sweet, friendly and attentive. It is truly authentic. Smells a bit like cleaner when we walked in so at first it turned us off but glad we stayed. I had the vegetarian tostada and bean burrito. Burrito excellent, tostada average. My husband had a chicken milanesa torts and the chicken was very tender. Sandwich was very good. Someone in our party had a chorizo taco and chorizo was dry but the carne asada was very good. Lupita's is my family's favorite restaurant in the area. The food is delicious every time, and it tastes like real Mexican food. The birria de chivo is rich and flavorful, the lomo de res en chile de arbol is spicy and full-flavored, the camarones a la diabla are downright fiery, the tacos are excellent -- I usually choose some tongue and some steak, but the chicharron tacos are unusual and delicious too -- really, everything there is a great choice, and you should stop reading this review and go get Lupita's. Go here for Mexican food. I don't care if you live in Texas. Go here. It's family owned, and on one occasion we got to see the family dressed up for a huge party. The food is always amazing. I don't care for the chips...I'd prefer them to be a little less hard..but that's about the only negative I have. Attached to the restaurant is a market that sells authentic Hispanic foods. Seriously this place is a scam. If you go buy meat make sure you order 2lbs more because the owner weights the meat froze and with fat and prints the ticket that way, so by the time all the fat comes off (which he should be doing before displaying/weighing like any other carniceria) you are down 2lbs, but still pay for the original weight. We used to drive here from Fond du Lac almost every weekend and get over 10lbs. We didn't see the discrepancy until the owner started butchering. I would much rather drive to El Rey in Milwaukee where I know I will get my money's worth of meat! Oh and everything else is way over priced! read more

One thing I can say since having moved up to Wisconsin is that finding decent Mexican food can be a real challenge. This place has been one of the few restaurants that has (sort of) made up for the food I miss so much. First off, it is primarily a market. Stuff seems to be a little pricy but I can count on finding certain items that I have trouble with at other stores, such as menudo spice mix. They also have a good selection of Mexican snacks/candies. The food, though not as good as all the taquerias in the RGV offer, is still decent. I usually opt for tacos with corn tortillas because they're better, but you can choose flour too. Tripa, chicharron, and adobada are my favorite fillings, but there is also lengua, barbacoa, and a few other choices that I can't recall off the top of my head. Cilantro and onion are also included unless you request otherwise. Really, the only thing that could be done to improve the tacos would be if they actually fried the tortillas a little and got them nice and crispy. My husband usually gets the tortas, they're really good. Those I would say are closer to the quality of tortas back home. Menudo is a little pricy, but actually pretty decent considering that even back home, menudo can be a really hit or miss dish at so many places. Oh, and don't eat the tamales.
