We were driving through the area and decided to detour to catch dinner since it was getting late. After a search on Yelp we decided that Mexican would be a safe bet and this place had decent reviews. It wasn't too busy on a Saturday night but the place was buzzing. They did have a patio but it was not very inviting so we went inside. The service was friendly and very quick. I started with a draft Pacifico - $4 for 16 oz. Not bad. The salsa with the free chips was not my favorite - it was too much like tomato sauce - rather odd. My wife ordered three ala carte enchiladas- one beef, one chicken, one cheese for $9. I got the enchiladas supreme - four types with lettuce, and sour cream for $13. Overall the enchiladas were good not great. If you wanted sides of rice and beans each was over $3 which seemed pricey. I know everything is expensive these days but... The food was solid but nothing special. read more

Food & service was excellent. Delicious salsa and chips, chicken fajitas but guacamole was the only letdown- not freshly made as it had that plasticky texture & lacked authentic guacamole flavor. This shop was a pleasant surprise. There are several Mexican restaurants in Dodge county, none of which is of the caliber of this one. Prices left no lingering memory with me; I take it that that is a good sign that value was better than the price. We visited on a busy evening and there was a mariachi band playing. Crowd chatter covered any flaws that may have existing the musicians talent. Ambiance is very Tex-Mex, abundant and well done. The food is authentic American Tex-Mex. Authentic Mexican food is as difficult to find in Wisconsin as a real BBQ restaurant. But Palenque is giving us all that we can expect. read more

Pros: Clean, wonderful service , friendly and super fast food. ( too fast ) Cons: ordered steak burrito. Came in 2 to 3 minutes- no joke. Means the beef was already pre-cooked and there wasn't a lot of flavor. It wasn't terrible, but it just was generic pre-cooked beef, and a nice flour tortilla. The tortilla wasn't crisped up on a flat top after wrapped , which it could've been, and it had this weird melted white cheese on it, which is not typical. Being from Illinois and also having property in Fox Lake and living here on and off - this was not authentic Mexican food, as should take at least 10 minutes to make the burrito cooked the beef fresh, have it better seasoned like skirt steak normally is the higher quality beef that people use at authentic Mexican, the burrito should be lined with rice and refried beans inside the burrito to be authentic and then it's folded and crisp up on the outside. That's a burrito. What came to me was a pre-cooked beef filled tortilla with some weird cheese on it and pretty good rice and beans on the side so that was good. The salsa and chips were basic salsa tasted like store-bought and it was cold from the refrigerator and the chips were just pulled out of a bag not freshly cooked like an authentic Mexican restaurant that serves hot chips out of the fryer, these were cold crispy something you'd buy at Piggly Wiggly. Came in for lunch and had the appetizer quesadilla which was very tasty. It is more like a taco, there was only 1 tortilla but filled with a very generous portion of steak. Our first time here, first time in town. The BEST margaritas ever, I had peach and I absolutely got brain freeze from drinking it way to fast. Guacamole, cheese dip, chimichanga acapulco, chili relleno, seafood enchiladas (minus the pablano sauce add cheese) everything was amazing. read more

We drove up to Beaver Dam from Madison to meet some friends from the Milwaukee area - it's about halfway - and had lunch at Palenque. Didn't know what to expect, but we were quite pleased with the place. I had the steak Mexicano and my wife had the chile relleno. Both were well-prepared and tasty enough. I also had two cups of coffee and a glass of horchata. Both of those were exemplary. However, what really impressed us was the service. It was attentive without being obtrusive and we were able to enjoy our meals and catch up with our friends in a pleasant place staffed by nice people. We'd never been to Beaver Dam before but it looks charming and we are looking forward to our next visit and meal at Palenque. read more

Yummy! Best Mexican food! We've been searching Appleton, Oshkosh and Fond du lac, who knew we'd have to go to Beaver Dam. Margaritas are your normal flavors, but still hit the spot. Food came out quickly, even though they where busy. Everything was hot, with great flavor. I ordered the Nachos, only ate half because they give you plenty. Spicy chicken was not spicy but hubby says it was delicious. Safe to safe we will be making the 45 minute trip back here again. read more

This Mexican restaurant is completely garbage. The burrito is a flour tortilla with some white ground beef. Thats it! It's tiny it's 10bucks it's a rip off. The food was terrible. The nachos are chips and some kind of white sauce ground beef. Horrible! Come to Chicago and try an authentic Mexican restaurant. I rather hit up Taco Bell. read more

We spent the day in Beaver Dam for a basketball tournament and sought out a local place to eat between games. Finding Palenque was a pleasant surprise, especially being in a community the size of Beaver Dam. Nicely decorated in that Mexican village theme as so many Mexican restaurants are. The complimentary chips and salsa were quickly refilled and the salsa had just the right amount of kick. I had the Carne asada tacos and found the steak tender and flavorful. I don't know that I would travel any significant distance for a return visit but certainly could see stopping again if in the vicinity and in the mood for pretty good Mexican food in central Wisconsin. read more

I ate here for the first time a few days ago. My family and I are new to Beaver Dam and we were looking for some good Mexican food. I must admit I was a bit discouraged by some of the reviews that refer to the food not being fresh. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a chicken quesadilla that had sautéed onions and peppers and it was delicious. I wish they used a different type of cheese but it was still good. The cheese was a big gummy and not what I usually expect to have inside of a quesadilla. My husband ordered the steak fajitas and was very happy with his meal. What I loved the most about this restaurant was the festive ambience and decor. We even got serenaded by the mariachi band! We will definitely come back. read more

The food has been pretty good for carry out but the dine-in service is terrible. Took 5 kids and myself in for lunch, was seated, handed menus and waited. 15 minutes without being asked our orders or what to drink. The cook eventually came out, took our orders and left. 10 more minutes, I ask the elderly hostess if we could please get drinks as no one has been to check on us. She was very nice. 15 minutes pass, the cook comes out & we get our food. Now the kids need refills.. because well, kids. No hostess, no server, no waitress, no cook. We were left unattended for 45 minutes. No refills, no asking if we needed anything or how our food was. Waited as long as we could for to-go boxes and to pay the bill before we went looking for staff. Finally found the hostess, paid and left. It left a bad taste in our mouths (ba-dum-tss) and will not dine-in again, if we do ever decide to order from them again. read more

The biggest margarita I've ever seen. 34oz and it was STUNNING. The chimichangas were spectacular. I asked for mine without cheese (I'm lactose intolerant... in Wisconsin, I know!) and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our waiter could not have been better, friendlier, or more professional. The molcajete was amazing. Sizzling hot, bursting with flavor, with an excellent sear on the shrimp and chicken. The nopal cactus added a great burst of green flavor, and the whole jalepeno an optional strong burn. The horchata was delicious, as always, and the service friendly, prompt, and precise. Great place to eat and have a drink or two. My wife and I have been going there since it opened. We have tried just about everything on the menu. My favorite was the steak tacos, Mexican style. Then we tried the Molcajete and now we are hooked. You want to talk about flavor. But really you can't go wrong with anything there. I've never left hungry infact just the opposite usually I'm stuffed. I'm a big fan. And the owner and his employees are great. I wish they had name tags so that I could call them by their name's.
