Horrible experience, would never eat here again. Dined here with a group of 9 on a Friday night, we thought we were lucky the place was almost empty, we quickly found out why. It took at least 15 minutes after we were seated for our server to even introduce herself to us and take our drink order (still no menus at this point) then at least another 15 minutes to get our drinks (most of which were in cans) got our menus, not a very versatile menu either. Took maybe another 45 minutes to receive our food, lo and behold half of the table received either messed up orders or the completely wrong meal. Another 20 minutes for the correct meals to come. Keep in mind there are maximum five other groups dining in the entire restaurant. The food wasn't bad, I had the turkey club which had a whopping two thin slices of turkey on it. Only thing I would recommend from this place is their fries. If you're thinking about dining at this establishment, you'd be better off going to the quick trip down the road. read more

I've been coming here for years since my father lives nearby, and this place was long an essential local bar and gathering spot for the community. It was the kind of place where people shared fishing and hunting stories and built a real sense of community, which is so important in a rural town. Since ownership changed, it hasn't felt the same, and it's been sad to see the impact on the staff. The bartenders and workers are doing their very best and currently rely heavily on tips. Please consider stopping in for a drink to support them--and tip well. Don't be LUREd in to this place, it's not a catch. Don't get me wrong this place has all the makings of a good restaurant/bar: indoor and outdoor space, tons of games, accessible by boat and car, good drinks... If you want to test your patience and will power this is the place for you! The food and service were terrible. We came here on a Sunday so expected to have some wait, despite the place being only a quarter full. We had to wait over 2 hours for our food to come and when it arrived the order was incorrect and cold (at those prices!!). We were able to watch the entirety of JAWS which they had playing on the TV while we waited. The tables around us unfortunately had the same fate and when you have a ton of hungry customers whispering about how awful the wait is you know you have a problem. Some even started warning people before they sat down (many of whom left). Not only were we not warned about the wait when we sat down, the waitress avoided our table and only after tracking her down and asking we found out we'd need to wait another 45 min. We visited the Lure Bar and Grill on March 19th at 4:30 pm for and early dinner. It was our first time here. Nice atmosphere and roomy with great views of Lake Petenwell. We were met by the manager, Dan, who was friendly, good conversationalist, and all around super nice guy. I ordered a Bloody Mary and being a self professed guru of Bloody Mary's, I deem this an A+. We ordered the Chips and cheese for an appetizer, a bowl of chili, a Rueben sandwich, and the Cuban sandwich. The homemade chips were hot and huge. Very good compliment to the meal. My chili was some of the best I've ever had in a restaurant. My wife's Rueben was massive with a same amount of fries. She gave it a thumbs up. My Cuban sandwich with fries did not disappoint in flavor, size or tenderness. And to add, with these meals, you will not go away hungry. Hats off to Dan and his staff. On this beautiful September day we had a very good lunch on the outdoor patio. We had a great server and excellent food and cocktails. Granted it was at noon and not busy but still a great place with a view of the beach and lake. They have trouble getting help here like most places so be patient if it's busy. The hamburgers and homemade potato chips and very good. Rollups were good too. We ate here twice while on vacation and it was equally good both days so maybe they are doing better with their service issues in the evening. Keep them open and check the Lure out! read more

The waitress wouldn't split our bill because we did not request it right away even though it was not rang up in the system yet. We ordered nachos and the cheese was cold and sour cream frozen. I ordered the Wisconsin Cheese head burger and it only had 3 cheese curds in it. The burger itself was good, just save a few bucks and get a bacon cheeseburger. The homemade chips were good. The Lure has really slipped. Sad to say. What hasn't changed is how loud it is in there. Noise just echoes no matter where sitting inside. The drinks have gone to watered down ice filled glasses, from the bloody Mary's to the lemonade! Our group of five all said the same thing The food has taken a dive also. The quality and presentation were sub par. The food just tasted...flat! And it was room temperature when received. It just was not what we expected from the Lure after having visited so many times before. I doubt that we will be going back anytime soon, even though we are LOCALS and have visited many time during the off season. Thank God Adams county still has the Dirty Oar supper club since Carlsons was sold and then again. Now the Lure is leaking out of good food and service. The Lure was a very pleasant surprise! It offers excellent food and attentive servers who bust their butts with lots of hustle. The place is loud, kind of a beer hall atmosphere without the long tables. I had a patty melt which was made with ground steak and very flavorful onions. It was very juicy and flavorful. My dinner mate had a bacon bbq burger. I had a nibble of the bacon and found it delightfully crispy with a sweet barbecue sauce. We both opted for their signature home-made potato chips, a wise choice! The usual suspects are on tap but they do not have bottled beer. The Lure is on the Petenwell Flowage south of Nekoosa off Cty Hwy Z. Watch for the sign, or do what other folks do and beach your boat near the patio. Keep your eyes peeled at the cul de sac. Just about time you're thinking, "I made a wrong turn somewhere," there it is! Don't be in a hurry. There are arcade games and a patio bar. Be prepared for the beer hall atmosphere. I was with a group of friends that for a weekend trip in Arkdale.We were all discussing where to go for dinner that would be able to accommodate 11 of us with 2 more friends meeting is up there after dinner. Seeing me and my boyfriend was new to this area of state any place was fine and as long as they had a fish fry the better. The organizer of the trip suggested The Lure Bar that was about 10-15 minutes away. We all ordered a drink at the bar before we were seated. The drink prices were real decent and you got your money's worth. I ordered the fish fry that was $9.99. You get 3 pieces of breaded cod along with choice of potato with cole slaw, baked beans and a piece of cornbread. I'm used to the usual rye bread, but the cornbread was good and liked the beans which you normally don't think to get with a fish fry. Our waitress I believe her name was Kathy but was great! She was friendly and always stopped by to make sure there was anything we needed. I told her I really enjoyed my dinner but I wanted to order a few more pieces of fish. I told her it was good, but I was still hungry cause the pieces I got were kind of small. She put in an order for me and less than 10 minutes I got three hot fresh pieces of fish and were a little bigger. Nice and full, but not too full and now I'm a happy camper. Our other friends finally joined us. After a few drinks followed by some tunes on the jukebox and some pool played by the others it was all in all a great time. Gave it a second try last night thinking maybe the 1st time was just an off night but still not good. I've been here 4 times in the past couple months since we are new to the location. All 4 times we have been disappointed.... they are always out of food options and we've been left waiting over 1.5 hrs for our food. This review is based solely on the boat rentals and not the "Bar & Grill". I have not eaten at this place nor do I ever plan to eat at this place, but I will say that boat rental experience was less than stellar and I don't forsee us renting a boat from here ever again. I will say that what we experienced the day we rented the boat wasn't all controllable by the staff of The Lure, but I certainly did not expect what we ended up with. Every year we come up to the area to hang out and relax for a long weekend with friends. Last year we hung out on the smaller Lake Arrowhead with a couple of Jet skis and had a blast, but not everyone can ride Jet Skis at the same time so this year we decided to rent a boat so we could all hang out on the water for the day. Since Lake Arrowhead is pretty small it was not conducive to a larger boat so we decided to venture out to Lake Petenwell which is supposedly the 2nd largest lake in Wisconsin. We figured this would give us plenty of room to Jet Ski and boat for the day so we setup a full day boat rental with The Lure for a Saturday. Saturday rolled around and we packed up the Jet Skis and made our way down to the lake. The day started off bad in general due to the fact that the weather was crappy. It's like God hates Jet Skis! The whole week was perfect and the forecast showed that Saturday was supposed to be beautiful, but of course it was overcast and colder. Either way, we had the rental so we had to take it or lose our $100 deposit... and that's the first thing I want to comment on. The full day rental (11 hrs) for a large pontoon was $195 with a $100 deposit. I really don't think that the deposit should have been more than 50% of the boat rental itself, $50 would have been more reasonable in my eyes, but whatever. Once we got down to the boat launch we immediately smelled what we could only compare to horse $%*t. It literally smelled like a herd of horses ate taco bell and then jumped into the lake to swim around and drop huge steamy loads in the water. And, to be honest, when we got down to the boat launch, which is a bay off of the lake, it literally looked like horses s%*t everywhere. I have never seen an algae build up so bad in my life. I think my one friend said it best when he made the comment "... and this is where shamrock shakes are made". It was seriously that green and I can only imagine it did not taste as delicious as a shamrock shake does. I was a little skeptical about launching the Jet Skis in the water because I wasn't sure if the algae was going to do any damage to them, but the guy in charge of boat rentals seemed almost insulted that I was worried about it and assured me that people launch them all the time... ok dude, I'll take your word for it. Plus, what do I know I'm just a dumb city slicker... We got the Jet Skis in the water no problem, but not without stepping on a couple dead fish that lined the boat launch, and then packed up the pontoon and set sail. Once we got out onto the lake the algae did clear up a bit, but not enough to the point where anyone wanted to go in the water voluntarily. A few of us fell off the Jet Skis as we were messing around and regretted it later, but like I said, the algae wasn't quite as bad on the actual lake as it was in the bay, but what was bad were the bugs. The boat was covered from front to back in what looked like mosquitoes, but didn't bite. It was almost as if they were mosquitoes in the phase of their life before they become blood sucking parasites, but they were still obnoxious. Every time we brought the boat to a slow creep to try and enjoy the water the bugs would swarm up and land all over us, it was terrible. I'm assuming the bugs were from the rain that came through the day before, which is what the rental guy told us was the reason for the algae build up, but would it have killed him to at least hose off the boat and kill the bugs for us? We rented the boat for 11 hours, but could only manage to stay out there for like 3-4 hours because of the bugs. Seriously, the weather we could have dealt with, but the bugs were intolerable. So needless to say we did not have a good experience out on this lake and will be sticking to the Jet Skis and Lake Arrowhead in the future. Now, I will say that we may have just experienced a "perfect storm" of problems which lead to our bad experience, so they may not have all been The Lure's fault, but I can only judge this place based on my experience and 1st impressions are always what stick out and all that stuck out to me was a lake filled with dead fish, bugs and algae... no thanks guy. Oh and this place is apparently the only place on the lake that has gasoline, so if you need to fill up a boat or a Jet Ski prepared to bend over and take it from behind because there's no competition so they feel they can charge whatever they want for gas. read more

After our planned boat trip didn't work out today, we tried "The Lure".... They sure got me hooked! (Ok. That was bad. I know.). This place is truly a wonderful spot. They offer access to a public beach, pontoon rentals, a boat launch (for a small fee), and a great little bar! The beach is a mix of sand and rock, but there are plenty of spots to park your boat while you swim (I did hear some kids say the ground in the water is rocky, though), lay out, or stop into the bar/restaurant for food and/or drink. We managed to find plenty of space to lay out our towels and relax. If we had a volleyball, we could have used the sand volleyball area they had available! The actual bar/restaurant is super spacious and full of natural light. The patio area was open and airy, which reminded me of an outdoor tiki bar. We were helped by Erika, who was friendly, attentive, and quick! They offer Malibu bucket drinks for $10, which are great to share (and you get to keep the bucket as a souvenir). I love she called the bucket drink menu a bucket list.... Very catchy. Many of them sounded pretty sweet (in the sugary way), but we tried the orange cream one and it wasn't overly sweet like I had thought. We did not try any food, but it looked delicious, as we saw many different dishes pass us by, all with eye catching presentations. They have fun little photo ops with colorfully painted Adirondack chairs and a statue of Captain Morgan. They also have a large, spacious grassy yard attached to the patio that overlooks the water. It appeared they had cornhole/bag toss available to either rent or play for free (I didn't ask) on the grass. The only pitfall for me as a *ahem* curvier lady was that the chairs were not very comfortable. They weren't quite wide enough to comfortably accommodate my thicker legs/hips. My boyfriend, who is of average size, said even he was not super comfortable in the chair. They definitely fit the ambience of the spot, though, as they give you the beachy feel with their plastic wicker look. Inside the bar, they offer some games, including pool, skee ball, and a couple video games; so, if you have kids, they will be entertained for a while. I expect to be back to explore their food menu and take advantage of some features I didn't get the chance to try out this time around! read more

Food came after an hour wait. The kids had mac and cheese, we ate a burger, chicken wrap, and prime rib philly. It was just ok, nothing fresh. Worst part of our visit was the disgusting men's room. We plan not to return despite the nice location on Lake Petenwell. As far as food, bar, service ... not nice. We visited on a Saturday around 7pm, the weekend after Labor Day. There were a number of vacant tables and there were plenty of staff -- they just apparently dislike engaging with their customers. I understand that all bars won't have extensive selection of beers on tap, but when I asked if they had any IPA on tap, the server simply said no. Eventually I found out the can/bottle selection, but it was like pulling teeth. When it came to the food, we ordered an appetizer of cheese curds at the first chance. It's not an exaggeration that we waited 30 minutes for the curds, which arrived over-fried on the outside and tasteless on the inside. I ordered a specialty burger with chips, and declined french fries with an upcharge. By the time my burger arrived well over an hour later, I had forgotten about the chips and was just happy to have food in front of me. It wasn't until my memory was jarred later that we checked the receipt and saw the extra charge for the fries I had not ordered. read more

Flood sucked and service was worse. I will not go back until they sell it. They was maybe 20 people in the whole place and we sat down and it took 20 minutes before we even had a waitress come over. Then it took an hour and a half to get our food. I ordered a hamburger and you could see they put cheese on it and scraped it off. My wife ordered battered shrimp and they were frozen shrimp. The only reason I am giving this a 1 star review is because the owner is a angry old man that must not have any happiness in his life. We were told our food would be out in 10 minutes, 3 times. We asked to talked with the owner (not looking to get anything free) and when we told him about the 10 minutes his first word was, "Bullshit." Where to begin. We Called in an order for take out . They said it would be ready in 45 mins ended up waiting an extra 45 mins at the door for the order. Everything was cold. Went here on Thursday night. It wasn't busy & there were 4-5 servers/bartenders. Upon arrival we were told someone would be right with us, we assumed to seat us. About 10 min later, another waitress asked why we were standing there & that we should just grab our own menus and find a seat. So we did. Then we waited about 20 min at our table & no one acknowledged us. Wait staff actually hadn't stopped at any tables within those 20 min. We went to the bar and ordered our own drinks and the waitress asked if we were sitting outside and said someone would be right there to take our food order. We sat outside for another 30 min and no one stopped by our table. Only one other table was helped within that 30 min. So we left. The views here are great, and the drinks were good. I have heard the food is supposed to be good. Wish that the service would be better so we could try out the food. It seems to be common knowledge that the service here needs improving based on talking to others. read more
