I am a young women who relies on shops like Monro Muffler in Clifton Park to perform accurate…read morediagnostics. I went here on July 30th with concerns about my car having trouble starting. I expected a proper diagnostic to confirm the issue before any work was done. Shortly thereafter, The mechanic confirmed that it was the starter, but it would cost nearly $900. That is half a months salary for a young person like me, but I felt I had little choice. After the repair, the same problems starting my car persisted. When I returned, the mechanic checked my car again and admitted that the real problem was actually a corroded battery, and acknowledged that the original diagnostic was not done properly. I asked for a refund since they had misdiagnosed the issue and charged me for a repair that didn't address the actual problem. At first, the mechanic who made the error was willing to take responsibility and refund me, but later the shop backtracked and offered a free battery instead, which nowhere near offset the cost of the starter. Monro's side of the story started out apologetic and offering to work with me (everyone makes mistakes and those that own up should be given a second chance was my thinking). However, with each altering version of Monro's side, it sounded more more defensive and "it is your fault", adding salt to the wound. They even tried to place the blame on me for "suggesting" that it could be the starter--despite it being their responsibility as professionals to diagnose the problem properly. This experience was incredibly frustrating. I paid nearly $900 for a repair I didn't need and was left with the original issue unresolved. At the end of the day, it is a mechanic's job to diagnose the problem, not the customer's. I can't recommend this shop and would strongly suggest an alternative shop particularly if you not knowledgeable in automotives and rely on the accurate diagnostics / professionals service of the mechanics.

I came here to get my air conditioning looked at last Summer (~July 2020), telling them my whole…read moresituation beforehand (a garage I went to a few years back told me that, after refilling the coolant for the air conditioning for ~$150, told me that it still wasn't working because the compressor needed to be replaced; this was a $800+ job so I put it off and went without AC for years). Mike at the front told me that, all things considered, it would still be best to check a few easy fixes first (that he explained right away) before getting involved with the compressor. I brought the car in, Mike walked out with me and we did some field testing on it, and he diagnosed on the spot, while showing me, that it wasn't the compressor and that it only needed one minor fix and a recharge and I'd be good to go. He called a couple of hours later to say the car was ready, and when I got there I checked - it was blowing nice, cold AC. The total cost was ~$160 so Mike effectively saved me ~$800 by being honest, truthful, and knowledgeable, and in the middle of the summer when it would be easy to price gouge. How much better can it get? Thanks for your help Mike, you know I'm coming back!

Just experienced the worst service ever at your Clifton Park NY store. I selected 4 tires, made a…read more"reservation" and paid a $25 deposit several days in advance. I arrived at the my appointed time(11am). The shop was not busy as several bays were empty. The receptionist took a long time to confirm the tires I select were in stock. That should have been my first clue. I was told work should be done by 2:30pm ( 3 1/2 hours ). I had a "reservation" and 4 tires should take much less than 1 hour. Clue number 2. At 3pm I called and was told my car would be done within the hour and they would call. NO CALL. I went to the shop at 4;30 to find my car has NOT MOVED. I suspect they NEVER had the tires and were waiting for them, while they continued to lie to me. I wasted an entire day. I got my deposit back and will never return to any Mavis facility.
