Yoooooo. Im just visiting the area but this was an AMAZING find. It's a cafeteria style establishment; So it's quick and easy. It is WAY cheap. 7.50$ for rice and two entree options (tax already included O.O). To put that in perspective, that's cheaper than Panda Express! As a small mom and pop shop, that's amazing. And their options include 4 options of fish, some other options with shrimp, etc. these aren't exactly cheap protein options. Service was super friendly. I was asking many questions as it was my first time there and I am not too familiar with Filipino dishes. Flavor wise, I've had better, however, still very homely, comforting, and satisfying. There's a niche for quick lunches and For that price, I highly recommend you come by. I know I'll be back.

    Tapsilog

I used to order tapsilog here often, until I was served cold rice and meat one time too many and decided to take some time away and give more business to the competition around the corner. Visited for breakfast today for the first time in months hoping for a better experience. I ordered the tapsilog combo once again. I was told there would be a few minute wait, as the eggs for the combo were not prepared..no problem. Then I was informed that they were out of garlic rice. I checked my watch and noticed it was before 9am. I was told I would be served white rice. Okay, fine. Finally, it came to plating the meat: I was served literally 4 pieces of meat from the tray, which was FULL of meat. I would say I was served less than half the portion of l what it would typically be served here in the past. The older gentleman who served me knew it was a poor portion of meat too, as he looked at me as he served it and said "That's it, okay?"- as if he wanted my approval to justify serving me a small portion. Not only that, but the price on a tapsilog combo has gone up several dollars as well. I payed $11 for a can of soda, a plate of white rice, 2 fried eggs and an infant size handful of tapsilog. Very disappointed- I only gave it 2 stars because I enjoyed the 2 forkfuls of meat I had on my plate. I will not be returning.

We both ordered Menudo with rice of course and can't remember the other stuff. Sorry!

This place doesn't look much when you walk or drive past, but I was craving for Filipino food and thought I'd give this restaurant a try. It's a small place, friendly people, you can eat inside, not a lot of people, but it was nice to enjoy our food quietly and felt no rush to finish. The food are displayed, you pick 2 entrees with choice of white rice or garlic flavored fried rice. We also had to order some lumpia and coconut juice! They have fish too in case that's what you like. The downside mainly for me was their bathroom, it was stinky. Just being honest. If you gotta go, you gotta go! Just hold your breath in We plan to visit again esp with other businesses nearby... the market and dessert shop!!

There are four Filipino places near where I live, and Lutong Bahay is my second favorite. My favorite place in Flemington wins out in flavor, but this place has more selection and gives out larger portions. Takeout is $6.50 for rice and two choices. The first time I came, I tried their beef skewer and this pork stew with carrots and other vegetables. The beef skewer was tough, but had great flavor. The pork stew was likewise tasty. The second time I tried the longanisa and chicken curry. It looks like they coat the longanisa in this sweet sauce, but it still tastes like normal delicious longanisa. The chicken curry tastes like Thai green curry, but less sweet. Their whole roasted eggplant was a bit bland, but I liked the texture of it. I've also tried a couple of the desserts and snacks they sell. We got the turon once thinking they were regular lumpia. To our surprise there were plantains inside instead. After getting over the initial shock, I quite liked it. Their sweets come from this place called Berkeley Bakery. I think I like the sweets, especially the hopia baboy, from Christine's Bakery better (which the one in Flemington sells), but these were still good. Make sure you get the purple yam sticky rice ball. It's incredibly delicious and not too sweet. I liked the texture of it because it's stickier than a regular rice ball, but not as sticky as a rice cake. They get the kutsinta from two different bakeries. This was my first time having kutsinta. It tastes like a coconut rice cake with shredded coconut on top. Their cassava cake is also absolutely delicious. It somehow still remains soft even when refrigerated. Everything is really cheap. It was approximately, $15 for the purple yam rice ball, kutsinta, hopia baboy, roasted eggplant, and rice combo with 2 sides. This place is extremely close to the Raritan train station, so I can go here whenever I get off the train and go to the one in Flemington the next day. Unfortunately, they didn't have laing the day I went, but the person helping us said the sometimes have it on Sundays.

As for cafeteria style Filipino restaurants go this place is standard. I'll never quite understand why a lot of things just aren't hot but that seems to be the case for most of the Filipino restaurants I go. The "silog" breakfast entrees for $7.50 are awesome. A huge helping of rice, a choice of meat, and two eggs will hold you down all day. I tried the pork bbq which was okay but not the best I've had. The lumpia was cold and wasn't crispy so I was a bit sad about that. The lechon was a bit dry and also just a room temp. The best thing I had was definitely the turon dessert. Super sweet and crunchy which I definitely enjoyed. I'd come back again for a quick breakfast.

    Breakfast combo
    Thomas Z.

Ordered tapsilog and meat combo. Was ok. I got 4 sides by recommendation, but 3 of them tasted the same. All meat, marinated in some sweet sauce. Only difference was how sweet. There was a beef stew that was great. Price was cheap too but personally I'm not a big fan of rice and this place gives like 70% rice as part of combo.

    Philip L.

This is a very small cafeteria style ma and pop shop in raritan. Great for breakfast and lunch. The price for rice platter and two sides is 7.50, and additional side will be a dollar extra. My I order the lechon, pork terikyaki, and a fried egg, while my friend order the braise pork, one other meat dish, and a fried egg. Personally I very much enjoyed my freind's braised pork and vice versa with my friend who enjoyed my lechon. We were very satified with the meals we had here and will be coming back.

Decided to try this place out to give my husband his Filipino food fix since I hadn't really been cooking any at home. It's def a hole in the wall place and I figured "why not?" I ordered a combo that came with dinuguan and adobo and rice. The texture of both were ok. The dinuguan lacked a little flavor which surprised me a little while the adobo was (as expected) on the greasy side. But....big but here....the temperature of both were just warm and not hot. The rice was the hottest thing on the plate. Honestly, that bothered me more than anything else. If the food is sitting in dishes over hot water, they should be hot and not just warm. I probably should've asked to have it heated up in the microwave at that point. Too late though....the hungry husband inhaled his food hahaha. Oh well. He agreed with my thoughts and would rather hit up a few other places for flip food.

We were quite hungry so we ordered one of the tower sets and some other stuff like lumpia and eggs. I loved the tower- it featured a superb mix of meats, potatoes, eggs, and sweet pastries. I will definitely say either share it or come super hungry because I was stuffed to the brim by the end of the meal. Service is super fast and efficient too. The owner did rounds to talk to everyone as well which felt quite inviting. The vibe inside is also nice and cozy, and the tables are spaced pretty far apart so it doesn't feel crammed in there. Overall, highly recommend as one of the best Filipino spots and brunch spots in the central Jersey area.

Maricels Kitchen Is Bitchen!…read more What a imaginative way to serve several dishes at 1 time. Usually called a boodle or Ramadan, where the layout several dishes on leaves on the table, all dishes were served on a 3 tier tower. Cute for a celebration. The towers immediately brought to mind English tea service, with finger foods displayed on two- or three-tier stands. The customer service truly stood out, from the attentive waitstaff to the three chefs who came out to greet us--including Chef Maricel herself--the hospitality felt warm and genuine. The dining room is cozy and inviting, with a mix of sofas and chairs giving living-room vibe. They offer two preset towers, and we ordered the first: The Classic Filipino Brunch Tower, which included: Siomai, Crispy Shrimp, Ukoy (sweet potato and vegetable fritters), Pork Tocino, Beef Tapa, Bangus (milkfish), Garlic Fried Rice, Fried Eggs, Salted Eggs with Tomatoes and Atchara, Homemade Pandesal, Suman, and the Chef's selection of homemade pastries. It would be great if guests could choose items from a list or make substitutions. There were no substitutions allowed, so we had to pick the tower with the fewest items we wouldn't eat. I especially wanted the Torta Talong from Tower 2, but it wasn't available as a side dish. The siomai was the first item cooked--it arrived cold and had started to harden. Everything else was delicious. Since the towers are meant to be shared, providing tongs would be a thoughtful touch and more hygienic for communal dining. We also ordered a few side dishes. The Lumpia Shanghai were fresh and delicious, though a few were still pink inside. The Baked Siopao was dry and lacked sufficient meat and sauce. The Empanadas, however, were the clear favorite--fresh, flaky, generously filled with savory seasoned beef and vegetables, and baked to perfection. Every bite was a flavor explosion, and we were literally fork-fighting over them. The Sans Rival was the perfect ending to the meal--so good that we ordered an extra slice to take home. **BYO LIQOUR** I would love to take my Mom for a dinner.

Maybe you're at a crossroads, wondering if this place is worth your time. However, there is more than meets the eye. Frankly speaking, you will find yourself comforted with a meal that is made with love and passion that spans across a whole ocean. If you're new to Filipino food, you might be wondering what makes it unique as its own cuisine. Well, the art and wonder of Filipino cuisine is in the immense regional diversity for each of its signature dishes. From something as "simple" as adobo to the complexities of diniguan, you will find that the recipes for these dishes are nuanced by region and each island of the Philippines. The diversity in the recipes reflects the multi-cultural aspects within Filipino culture. This makes each experience special when it comes to Filipino cuisine, because you are tasting that particular recipe deriving from that particular region/island. With that being said, Amer-Fil delivers its own unique recipe on these signature dishes. The initial take at the store front might not be anything spectacular or worth noting - perhaps just another simple small mom-and-pops grocery store. Non-perishable cans of consumables and other Filipino/Asian-centric goods line the shelves in seemingly a non-descript fashion - a sort of "if-you-know-you-know" type manner. Finally, as you get to the back, you encounter the dining area. The open area is outfitted with several tables, while the service counter offers a display of the precooked foods through a transparent glass screen of the buffet somewhat in a similar fashion to other Filipino restaurants found in the New Jersey/New York area. While the appearance may not be appealing, consider for yourself the history and background of the establishment. That the story is rich in context with relation to the generations of Filipinos that have immigrated to the U.S. and made their home here. From humble beginnings, you can't help but imagine the pride and happiness in being able to "make it in America" and how that came to fruition through owning of your own business. Yet, there is that piece of the mind and soul that remains back at home across the ocean - something that never really fades with time. What it is like to make something for yourself and your family is truly remarkable and arguably one of the greatest accomplishments that deserves recognition. Now take that same pride and happiness, and infuse it with the food. This is ultimately what you will find here at Amer-Fil. We tried the afritada, diniguan, mongo, BBQ pork on a stick, chicken adobo, and pancit. We were amazed at how rich in flavor each of these dishes were, coupled with the unique textures of each dish. If you prefer food on the vinegary-side, you will most definitely enjoy these dishes - especially the diniguan. Typically, diniguan is not my jam due to its cooked-pork-blood consistency, but Amer-Fil has made me a fan with their own take on it. The pancit is on the peppery side, but that gives it an interesting smokey flavor that I haven't previously experienced. You can tell that the food was cooked with love based on how genuine the owner's smile as he presents the plate of food to you - indicative of the pride in that he is to be able to share a piece of his home with you. I assure you that you will not be disappointed eating here at Amer-Fil. A gem in Central Jersey!

The Chicken Sisig, Palabok, pork BBQ and sizzling Biko with ice cream are a must-try from the food menu. The appetizers, like the piping hot vegetable lumpia and their humongous portion of Halo-halo as dessert are highly recommended by me and other reviewers. When we dined at this place, the whole staff gave me a feeling as if I was eating at an aunt's house, with the owner and staff providing very welcoming, family-style care. I have been living in NY for more than 30 years, have already eaten in so many low and high-end Filipino restaurants, in terms of food quality and taste, I may say this by far is the best that I have experienced. If given the chance to be in New Jersey again, I will definitely, 100% be back to this place for their delicious and flavorful food. Some of my companions point out that the seating area is relatively small, which can lead to limited availability during peak times, and a few note the interior decor is fairly plain but it did not matter to me because the food that I ordered/tried were great and amazing (properly spiced, cooked very well and soooooooo delicious!! ). Food portions are generous, presentation was appetizing and excellent, staff service was attentive and great ( I noticed that our water glasses were always filled up which is a service very consistent in so many high-priced restaurants that I have been ).
