I moved back to Hastings from a resort town, and I didn't think I would ever find the level of service, pampering, and luxury to which I had become accustomed. I was very, very happy that I chose Lux for a pedicure. Riley did an amazing job! She is personable and informative, and I felt pampered throughout the entire lovely process. The spa is clean and well-designed, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. If you truly want to be pampered - and not seated in a row of chairs in front of a large picture window overlooking a parking lot like you find in the more pedestrian nail establishments - this is the place for you! Very disappointed in the service. I went in to have my acrylics removed and gel put on. She insisted I have her fix my acrylics and keep them long so i let her (my mistake) within less then 24 hours two nails completely broke off. I live 40 min away so I texted her to see when i could get in to have them fixed. I got there and said I absolutely have to leave at 4:30 can you get them done in time? She said she could.... long story short. I ended up missing my appointment afterwards bc she got me out late. (Not happy at all about that) and she charged me for a whole service when It was not my fault my bails broke. I've been going to Krystina to get my nails done for the past couple of months and I've always been extremely satisfied with her service. I found her salon while looking through Yelp reviews and I'm so happy that I decided to give her salon a try. She is the only nail technician which means that you will be getting great service every single time. She takes her time and you seldom feel rushed. She has many gel colors to choose from and also has holographic powders and gems for when you're feeling a little extra! ‍ This is not the cheapest salon to visit but you pay for what you get. You will not be disappointed! I have gotten regular acrylics and glow in the dark. I highly recommend you try the glow in the dark acrylic nails. I am SO happy to have stumbled across this quaint spa, Krystina is the absolute best nail artist I have ever been able to find. She truly is an artist that cares if you are leaving happily or not - making sure to always give you her best work. Everything is one on one, so you never have to feel rushed or like you don't matter along with the seventeen other customers trying to get their nails done, waiting in a walk in line at the same time (it's the worst). Upon being offered some delicious Jasmine tea, we got right to work on my pedicure which was amazing with a wonderful hot rock massage and organic lotion to top it off. On top of feeling so relaxed, it was awesome to actually get to know my nail artist - on a more personal level rather than the same ole small talk at normal salons. I tend to be a bit picky when it comes to my gels and let me tell you, Krystina nails it every time (did ya catch that pun?) but really, she does, my pointer finger is weird and crooked and my nail ALWAYS gets put on looking more crooked than ever before. But she totally got it perfectly, noting that indeed, my finger is crooked... however, somehow this woman got it right and straight looking. To top it all off, she's totally down to get crazy with designs and challenge herself when it comes to something on the more unique side. It has been about three years since I had my nails done, and I was so excited! I scheduled an appointment and made arrangements for dogs and kids. First I got a reschedule notice the day before my appointment. Things happen. No big deal, right? I got to my appointment, there was no one there. The door was locked. I tried calling, but got the machine. When I looked at my email, I found that my appointment had been canceled 20 minutes before it was scheduled to begin. There was no effort to contact me to reschedule at all. Unprofessional and disappointing. Find a salon the respects your time and values you as a customer. Unprofessional, rushed, rude, and painful :/ If you don't feel like reading the whole thing at least look at the pics and how my nails turned out. I just read another review where she (again) forgot she booked an appointment! This is a recurring thing I guess. Response to owner: Hi Krystina. My phone records don't go back to April 15, but if yours do please let me know when you find our phone conversation. It should be from a 248 area code. I mentioned dipping powder because that's what I'm assuming it was, I'm not an expert at the terminology. It was powder you dipped a brush into. I remember the other customer, Claudia, because my appointment was at 5:30 since my class ended at 4:45. I do not want to harm your business, but writing honest reviews is what Yelp and Google Reviews are for. I also am not asking for anything in return, I do not want any free service. I just felt compelled to write an honest review. Like I said at the end of my review, I believe you are usually easy going and the experience and your salon is generally pleasant, but I had an unpleasant experience, that is the truth. Beginning of review: This was my second time going to her, I had an enjoyable experience the first time so I decided to go in again (this was back in April). I made the appointment on a Saturday for that coming Monday. -When I walked in she said she did not have me written down. I checked the number I called that Saturday to make sure I was in the right place (I was) She must've forgotten to write my appointment down and scheduled someone else. -However, she insisted that I was wrong, but she would "do me a favor" and "squeeze" me in. Tip: If a nail tech says they'll "squeeze you in" find a different nail tech. -So she skips the usual steps (that I know she does since this wasn't my first time with her) and goes straight into filing my nails (no washing hands, no cutting cuticles). -I had pretty long nails to begin with (I attached a screenshot of a video of me trying on a brownish color on my thumb before she did my nails, you can see how long it was, compare it to how short she filed it) but she for some reason decided to file my thumb nails super super short to the point where they hurt. I told her I wanted to keep my length and to that she replied "no that's not possible" but she was able to keep the length with all my other nails? The thumb nails were so short they looked dumb -She was really rude throughout the whole process, and since she was rushing to squeeze me in she was being really rough and tbh it was painful. When I spoke up about how it hurt she was really rude so I just stopped speaking and let her do her thing. At this point I didn't even care about how my nails turned out I just wanted to leave. -That night my nails were in a lot pain (I was trying to do my homework I couldn't even hold a pencil to write, I wish this was an exaggeration). It hurt so bad that I thought maybe I was allergic to the dipping powder (I say dipping powder cause I'm not sure what it's called. She put it in with a brush) but by the next day they were feeling better. All in all, she was careless and rude during my appointment when I did nothing wrong :/ She somehow did a full set in 30 minutes (they usually take about an hour) and they turned out nothing like how I wanted, she was extremely rough on my nails as well. :( Overall this experience was pretty bad. I know she can be an awesome nail tech and a sweet person since I'd gone to her once before and I had a great time. However, there are some qualities about this place that are not very professional. I suggest if you do make an appointment here, call again a day before to make sure the appointment was actually written down and she doesn't forget!! read more

Pedicures are important to me, to look good and for my feet to feel good. Krystina definitely provided both! I like the intimate darling salon now just open. No loud crowded salon, no TV blairing, or other conversations to overhear. I could truly relax and be spoiled with hot tea and good music on a rainy day while she expertly clipped, scrubbed, massaged, filed and polished. This review was written by my best friend and submitted through my account because she doesn't have an account of her own. The rest is in her words: I've been seeing Krystina for the last six months and the experience hasn't been the best. My first time visiting her was when my best friend was in town. It was just after her birthday, so I wanted to treat her to a manicure and pedicure. I found Krystina via Yelp and contacted her on a Thursday. She scheduled us for Saturday at 5pm. On that day, we entered the salon to be told by Krystina that she had no recollection of booking our appointment. The situation was incredibly awkward, and she offered to fit us in after everyone else. Once the place had emptied out, she apologized, saying she remembered that she had spoken with us. The ridiculously long delay in this admission seemed like an attempt to save face in front of others, but I also didn't want to base my opinion solely on a first impression. I scheduled another mani-pedi with Krystina prior to going on vacation, and made sure to emphasize that I wanted the EXPRESS pedicure--$10 cheaper than the SPA pedicure. During the pedicure, I showed her a picture I wanted for my manicure. She said she could do it, no problem. After the pedicure, she began my manicure, and then said she didn't actually have the materials to make the design I wanted, but could do something similar. If she had told me this up front, I could have figured out something else instead. When it was time to pay, Krystina remembered that I had asked for an EXPRESS pedicure, but said she had forgotten and instead gave me a SPA pedicure. Instead of taking ownership of her mistake, I was charged for the SPA pedicure that I didn't ask for, and ended up paying $120 for that visit, including a 20% tip. I felt, as a customer, taken advantage of. Three days later, my shellac manicure, which I had paid over $50 for, began to PEEL. By that evening, I was able to peel off the polish off EVERY single nail EASILY (I didn't want to go around with one nail bare). I texted Krystina right away, and she offered to fix it for me the next day. I explained that I was on vacation across the country and wouldn't able to make that. Her response? "Ok. Sorry" I was absolutely floored by this completely flippant response. There was no offer to make it right when I came home, no offer for a complimentary manicure--NOTHING. When I did see her weeks later, at first she just gave me excuses as to why the incident happened, such as maybe a certain brand doesn't work with my nails (this has never happened to me before, and I've gotten shellac for many years before going to Krystina). Eventually, she did give me 50% off my manicure, but only after I complained how disappointing it was to spend that kind of money on a manicure only to have it fall apart after a few days when it's supposed to last for weeks. A few months later, I got a fill for a full set. One week into my fill, while on another vacation, one of the nails came loose as I was putting on make-up. I used nail glue to keep in place until a camping trip a week and a half later when I just took it off when it came loose again. When I told this to Krystina at my next appointment, she just brushed it off with no apology. Again, this should not be happening A WEEK into getting a fill. When Krystina started handling her bookings through the Booksy app, I booked a visit for a "fill shellac" ($35) and polish change feet shellac ($20) and then a matte top coat for my manicure ($5), with the grand total being $60 according to the app. However, when all was said and done, Krystina said my total came to $70 before tip. According to the receipt she sent me, the polish change was actually $25, the fill was $40, and the topcoat was $5. So, if you are booking through the app, her prices ARE NOT accurate. I feel like this is extremely dishonest. When on a budget, a $10 difference is STEEP. Additionally, Krystina has a reward program where you get a stamp for every $25 spent, once you get 10 stamps you get $15 off your bill. I absolutely LOVED this, and it was the incentive that kept me coming back. The last time I redeemed my $15 off, I still ended up spending $55 on my appointment that day before the tip. I asked for another card with two stamps on it and Krystina said, "No, it doesn't really benefit me... next time!" Every time I've redeemed my stamps in the past, there has never been an issue in giving me new stamps for services I still paid for even after the discount. So, there definitely won't be a next time for me. I really, really hate writing reviews--especially bad ones--but I cannot ignore the experiences I've had at Lux Spa and Wellness over the last six months and I feel that others deserve to know. Because, to sum it up, I felt more like a wallet than a valued customer. read more

Absolutely loved this place from the moment I walked in. Krystina was so sweet and offered tea and water when my mom and I first walked in. She let us pick the music too! I never liked going to nail shops in the mall or places similar to that, so when I experienced this place it was such a relief. It's a very personable experience that ends with a beautiful result. Another thing is whenever I'd get acrylic/gel nails at other places my nails would hurt for at least a week after, but when I got them at Lux Spa they didn't hurt AT ALL. The one time I got a manicure here it was great. However, attempting to return has been problematic. Around thanksgiving 2018 I booked an appointment on Booksy (which the owner seems to prefer for some reason). Received confirmation email and text. Arrived 10 minutes early. No one was around. Waited 40 more minutes only to realize they had closed early, but sent me no communication. Tried to call, went straight to voicemail. Left and thought I wouldn't go back. Decided 3 months ago to give it one more chance. Once again, wanted to go through Booksy (which I'm confused why continue using a booking service that habitually glitches, so much so it was acknowledged in communication?). Made the appointment, but wanted to re-schedule for times I was not available. At this point, the service doesn't trump the inconvenience of making an appointment in the first place.
