I was also told I had a large leak in my evap coil, but to "find the leak" it was a $198 extra charge, which I agreed to. (I was also quoted the wrong price for this initially by the tech, but when I called the office to pay, the price was corrected by office staff.) He found the leak (he didn't even have to remove the coil to find it), but then quoted me the labor costs to replace the coil and compressor and it sounded really high. He said if I wanted to continue I had to call the office and pay for the labor up front. I called someone else in for a second opinion. This guy actually did a test on my compressor and told me I DIDN'T need a new one. And that it WASN'T testing burned out. He said the previous tech did not do this test because he could tell he was the first one to ever put the cables on to perform it. Ultimately, I felt like J & S charged me $297 to tell me what I already knew - that my A/C was broken. Why isn't the "finding of the leak" included in the service call charge? If it's not, what exactly IS included in the $99???? In addition, they tried to get me to replace a very expensive part that I didn't need because they didn't even test it. I felt like they just wanted as much of my money as they could get and I was taken advantage of.

My partner and I recently hired Daniel Escobar for a complete A/C replacement. We paid ~ $10,000 for brand new A/C and Heater, after all add ons. Timeline: July 19, 2022 - Installed A/C and heating unit. July 29, 2022 - Got A/C fully working to where there was A/C flowing to the downstairs . September 9, 2022 - A/C completely stopped working, condenser unit not working, no A/C flowing. Troubleshooted thermostats and condenser with no resolve. Emailed, texted and called, multiple times, Daniel Escobar, with no response (to date have not heard from Daniel Escobar). Observations by third party (see pictures): The return plenum, and filter box are undersized for the unit, and not properly connected. The furnace has been bent in when it was being installed, and it looks like the heating case isn't properly sealed anymore, and was taped up. Multiple sections of low voltage wiring is just the inner wiring with the colored insulation around the copper. The outer shell, and other wires aren't present. The proper fuse has been removed, and a 5amp popper has been placed in the unit. The system calls for a 3amp fuse. System may have a low voltage short. Screws are missing from the condenser, and furnace doors. The plug in the condenser isn't the correct plug for the board, it was from the indoor unit. The txv is over feeding refrigerant causing the system to not function correctly. The secondary drain line is open, and should be capped off. Due to some of the issues found it's possible a proper vacuum wasn't pulled on the system. Without a proper vacuum non condensables could be within the system. This could cause damage to the system. Cost to repair: ~ $1,700 (does not include cost for damage discovered during repairs - pending). Warned that if the brand new Furnace is irreparable due to damage caused by Daniel Escobar, it will cost around $5,000-$6,000 to replace. Request: Once the third party has completed the initial repairs from damage caused by Daniel Escobar's negligence during instal, we will send Daniel Escobar the invoice to reimburse us for the damage he caused to our brand new system during his negligent instal. If other issues are found, like the furnace being damaged beyond repair, request that Daniel Escobar reimburse us the cost for him damaging our brand new equipment during his negligent instal. We are not asking for the labor we paid him to damage our brand new equipment during the negligent instal. We love supporting small businesses, but in this case we were taken advantage of and flat-out robbed. We have given Daniel Escobar ample time to reply to us and discuss this issue, but Daniel Escobar has chosen to ignore our pleas. At this point, there is no trust or confidence and we just want reimbursement for the negligent damage caused during instal. Due to supply shortages (txv not available), we don't have a date when the repairs can be made so that we have A/C again, estimate is 2 to 6 weeks.

I would have never known if I tried to fix this myself. I am always hesitant about calling a company to come do work because even the smallest little thing would cost me a few hundred dollars at least. As John was fixing and replacing things, he would also give little informational tidbits and explain what things were and what he was doing along the way. I can't say I didn't learn anything because I did pick up a few things here and there. He was very knowledgeable and definitely knew what he was doing.
