If you are looking for an upscale bar that consistently has good food- than LuxBar has to be on your list to try. I love the 1940's feel to the place- black and white checkered floors, the black marble staircase with the brass railing, mahogany bar, and the dark stained wood seating clusters- all lend a feeling of opulence to a place that couldn't be less stuffy or pretentious. My favorite place to sit is in the smaller bar area upstairs but it is not always open so you may find yourself in the larger, downstairs bar. The food is good and given it's linkage to Gibson's and Hugo's should come as no surprise. We had the tuna tartare, and a selection of their sliders (you can order as many as you like and in ground beef, filet mignon, pulled pork or turkey- all delicious) We also had their hand cut fries which were a hit with the table. The only downside that we had was that we were trying to watch the Bears game and the TV's on our side of the bar had another game on them. We asked several people to change the station and finally found a manager who was able to do so- but we missed part of the game. Oh well- we lost anyway! All in all- go to grab a drink with friends and have a bite to eat. The atmosphere and food will keep you coming back. read more

Just arrived in Chicago later afternoon and the hotel recommended this place for a quick bite. It was Saturday night so the place is packed. We didn't have to wait too long and the table was close to the door. We didn't care as we were so hungry. Service was fantastic and we all had burgers. Very juicy and came out quickly. The hotel concierge recommended the chicken finger (I thought: really?) but the flavour was so good I have to admit it's the best chicken fingers I've ever had. read more

We went for late night drinks. Scotch and Whiskey list is extensive. Ask for the larger list if you want to open up your wallet for a generous 2.5 oz. pour of the finer scotches and whiskey's out there. Their Moscow mule is probably one of the best out there. Atmosphere on a Saturday is great. It is quite busy and the crowd is a mix of younger to middle age. Servers are attentive and the manager seems to know his whiskey as well so that was helpful and encouraging. Nothing worse than a place with a great top shelf and no one that knows it. They did! I'm going to start this off with this: i used to be a hostess at a restaurant and this would never fly.......I go to Luxbar often as I live in the neighborhood. I always have great experiences here until tonight (however my unpleasant experience got turned around). I was meeting up with friends and I asked Brandon the host if I could sit at the table next to them or pull up chairs to their table. Brandon rudely declined this and told me they're fully booked until 10:30 pm (this was at like 4 pm). There were multiple tables wide open with seats available to pull up or even get a table next to our friends. We accepted Brandon's rudeness and decided we would just stand by our friends table. However, the kindest most sweetest and personable waitress walked past us and saw us standing by the table and offered us the table and chairs next to our friends. We accepted. Brandon came over in angst and told me "you can't just pull up a table" and I said I didn't, the waitress told us we could connect tables. He became filled with rage and continued to give us dirty looks the remainder of the night. It made us feel uncomfortable and like we should leave. However....... Femii our waitress reassured us we were fine and that we were welcome here. She was extremely attentative to us and continually made sure we had what we needed. Femii provided 5 star service to us and connected with us. Her personality and kindness was able to turn our poor experience here around and make us want to come back to Luxbar. Make sure to request Femii as a server as she is the sweetest person I have ever met. 10/10 for Femii, 0/10 for Brandon. I hope Luxbar sees this and trains Brandon on how to treat customers so that they can be successful and not threaten off long standing customers. read more

A go-to place when I have family in town or my friends and I can't decide where to eat. The patio is awesome during the summer time, however can be a little bit of a wait. I don't recommend sitting out there with a large group of people because for some reason it always seems a little squished and uncomfortable with the tables next to you. The food is awesome, however I have had questionable service here before. Either an amazing waiter or the worst and it can be hit or miss. My dad and my friends dad were shocked the other weekend when we came because of how terrible our waiter was (literally slammed our check on the table, wouldn't refill anyone's drinks, forgot sides we ordered, etc). Luckily the food is always great so it outweighs the service. read more

Very reasonable prices, especially for this part of Gold Coast. The Nutella waffle + breakfast burrito were both like blow-your-mind amazing-- I'd highly recommend both options. Tried a few bites of the Denver omelet as well, which was okay/pretty basic as far as omelets go. Overall, I think it's a great affordable brunch option, and I'd come back! read more

I went here with a guy as part of a night out and did not realize that someone could fall into the people watching scene. Part of me wanted to ditch him and walk around solo, just mingling with people and seeing the scene. However, I didn't and we settled into a nice table near the back, however, it was a busy night and the noise level was a bit offputting. If you're just out and about, I'd definitely check this place out for the truffle fries alone, but if you're trying to woo someone, I'd go somewhere more quiet, and romantic, like Hot Chocolate. We noshed on a couple of appetizers, and it shames me to admit that I ate almost all the truffle fries...LOL. But we shared the truffle fries, the sesame seared tuna and filet mignon sliders. I had a martini that had grapehead candies on the rim, and while the alcohol was strong, I suddenly felt like I was 9 years old, fighting my best friend for a box of jellybeans (we really fought over them, just so you guys know). So, I had a great time. I take off one star for the noise, and another for the search for parking, even though the hostess (I called for an exact address) told us that parking was no problem. Disappointed. It's a typical Gold Coast "to see and to be seen" spot, but when it comes to the food, I think it's quite bad. We came here on a Saturday for brunch. Husband and I both got the Egg Benedict. It was bland, the eggs were a little over cooked, the hash was meh. I showered my eggs with salt and pepper when the waitress was looking, but apparently she didn't get the clue to ask me "how's the food..." One upside is the waitress must have come at least 10 times to ask if we needed more coffee. All in all, very below average brunch. I'm seriously disappointed. The meal would've been perfect if it cost $21.95 at a Denny's in Hammond, IN. The bone-in skin-on chicken was devoid of any seasoning- a simple pan sauce would have greatly improved it. The same counts for the roasted veggies and brown rice- a little s&p, some garlic or fresh herbs would have gone a long way. The tuna melt was utterly bland with zero flavor. The seasoned fries couldn't stand up to McDonald's fries. I wouldn't be surprised if our entire dinner was purchased from the freezer section at Costco and microwaved. I'm revising this review a day later. My meal was this: fried chicken, veggies, fries. I can get that at KFC for $10 and it's GOOD. I paid $85 and the meal couldn't hold a candle to KFC. I know Luxbar sometimes gets a bad rap, but I like it. Good food, friendly service (granted, I've only been there for brunch or dinner...so I'm not sure how it is at night). Prices are reasonable for the area and those pretzel sticks - yum! I visited the last two times with work colleagues and had fun both times. Went back with my family for an early dinner last night. Most people were sitting outside but my brother wanted to stay inside so we were the only people indoors. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. She brought out the bread basket when we asked and took our orders. My brother enjoyed his shrimp cocktail and my mom and I split the lobster cocktail which was pretty good, I enjoyed the Dijon sauce it came with. For my entrée I got the BLT salad which is basically a wedge. I did not care for the bacon, but that was just me. I know a lot of people like it thick cut and chewy. My mom had the Maine Lobster Roll sandwich and she loved it. My brother got the Lux burger and said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had. We also got a side of the Brussel Sprouts, but they were just ok. I wouldn't get them again. We did try the turtle sundae and the snickers pie for dessert. In my opinion there are way better restaurants to get a full sit down meal, but when you are wandering the gold coast and in need of a quick pick me up on a beautiful day, Luxe Bar patio is where you should be headed. Their Moscow Mules here are some of the best I have had, but I think it is the crushed ice that really takes it to the next level for me. Went here for dinner on NYE & the food was pretty meh. Luxbar loves to douse alot of their food in truffle oil i will tell you that and although I know truffle oil is of the bourgeosie palette, I gotta tell you I don't really care for it too much...so if they served regular fries as opposed to truffle fries I probably wouldn't care either way. I ordered the steak salad for dinner since I didn't want to eat something super heavy...had to save up room in my stummy for the heavy drinking instead!!! The plating of my meal wasn't very nice either they had three pieces of steaks thrown to the side of my "iceberg wedge" smothered in bleu cheese..steak wasn't too bad though but presentation was a bit lack luster. The manager always makes it a point to come by and make sure everything is to your liking. Not only is all of the food excellent that I've tried so far...it's also REASONABLY priced! Lovely restaurant and bar area but it is extremely loud. The noise makes it very difficult to have a conversation. We were sold on their Old Fashioned which allegedly is their signature drink. It was definitely good, but nothing to rave about. I ordered the Lux Club and was disappointed. The club had clearly been sitting out for a few because when it came it out it was soggy. I have the hand it to them with the brussels sprouts. The crispy bacon and melted parmesan cheese compliment the brussels sprouts. Highly recommend it if you want a "light" side. read more

We came here for brunch/lunch with friends and had a great time! Decor: On a nice day, outside is where you want to sit. However, those tables are where EVERYONE wants to sit. But inside is nice too. It has a kind of old school pub look/feel to it. It's pretty cool. There is also plenty of space if you have a big group (like we did). Although, I will say that the tables seem VERY close together (and this is coming from a New Yorker!), we almost couldn't even pull chairs away from the table to sit down. Bathroom: It's nice and inviting. Not too well lit but neither is the restaurant itself. Staff: Our waitress was fine, nothing special. She wasn't speedy but wasn't slow either, and all our food came out at the same time. She could have been better about keeping our waters filled though. Food/Drink: General consensus (of the whole group) was that the food was good. We had the sliders (pretty standard) and the club sandwich w/ chips (DELICIOIUS!!). We also had a few beers, of which they don't have a very extensive selection. Value: Given the location the prices were reasonable. Depending on what you order you definitely get your money's worth (e.g. the club sandwich is a great value!) We came here to take advantage of their happy hour. $5 champagne (best deal), white blend, red blend, or beer option. The food was the highlight for us though. I've been hesitant to leave a review because I don't want everyone to find out about my favorite neighborhood spot. LuxBar is incredible! The service, the food, and the drinks are top notch. There's never a crazy long line for Gold Coast but it's also never empty. It's consistently a great balance with a good crowd. I've been with parents and friends upwards of 15 times and we all love it. The manager (I believe it's Wyatt?) deserves a shout out because he's amazing. He walks by every table to see how everyone is doing and will always help his staff out. Whether that is busing tables or seating guest.. he does it all! This place has great service all the way around. I could go on forever about the food! The grilled cheese, steak fritz, guacamole, calamari, fried chicken and dessert is to die for. I personally like this place better than Gibson's and tavern on rush. It's a hidden gem. We're big fans of this place and can't recommend it enough! It's a must read more

The Henley highball cocktail was delicious (although not sure if there was any alcohol in it at all), the food decent (not mind blowing) - we got fries, tenders and macaroni. The service was friendly and nice and it was easy to get a reservation on a Saturday and they were flexible about changing the reservation time. Overall a good time. read more
