Ever since I was in Jackson, I had a hankering for a good $14.00 steak. Maybe I'm too picky, but I'm not crazy about spending $50 for a steak with salad and potato not included. I don't eat as much as I once did and the sirloin medium rare at the Luxury Diner fit the bill. I had the fries and a side of gravy. I learned that from someone who must have lived in the midwest. Came here based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed! Was hoping to grab a quick lunch on my way back to Denver that wasn't too far from the highway. This fit the bill perfectly. I was vacillating between the Cheesesteak and a Cheeseburger. The waitress recommended the cheeseburger, saying that it was 100% fresh and cooked to order. The burger was excellent, but what really surprised me were the fries. They were thick, hand cut potato wedges and were some of the best I've ever had. A great little place with a ton of history. This place is cute and cozy. All the servers are real sweet and it's not pricy. My pancakes were fluffy and had very large tasty blueberries. My husband really liked his green chile burrito. *Update* I went back and had a great BLT and some fried pickles. Again, everyone was super sweet. My husband ordered the sausage burrito which was a special for today. He absolutely loved the tortilla and the green sauce that came with it. However, it was mostly rice and very little sausage, beans or eggs. But it cost only seven dollars so you sort of get what you pay for. I, however ordered the vegetarian omelette with rye toast and grits. I have never had grits before so I didn't know what to expect. They seem like they weren't cooked all the way but I'm sure that's why they call them grits. Maybe they're gritty on purpose. My vegetarian omelette was very tasty once I asked for some Cholula sauce. I couldn't eat the whole thing and since the rye toast didn't come for quite a while, I was able to take them both with me. I think the waitstaff had an off day today. They are still practicing social distancing due to COVID-19. read more

We came shortly before it changed hands and had the best sandwich, fries and coffee.... omg the coffee was the best I'd had in Cheyenne since we got here. Loved the meal so much we came back again only to find the Diner had changed ownership. Our next meals were the same as the first time because they were so good.... but I'm afraid they were not as good the second time around. At that time we agreed that the meal was just "ok" and my disappointment in the coffee was palatable (I love coffee). We stopped in for breakfast on our way to Tensleep. We sat for 30 minutes at a table before our order was taken and waited another 45 for the food - even after we told the server we were on a schedule and needed to leave. We paid the check before our food arrived and had to get it to go. The food was ok, but not worth the wait. Very good. The gravy taste homemade. Biscuit was flaky cooked like their supposed to be. And the sausage links had a crispy outer edge they were good as well. Hash browns were cooked just right. And of coarse the eggs you really can't mess those up. The wait staff was awesome very friendly. This was the first time I've eaten here. I come here every time it hails here. This is a great place to eat. The place is small but the food is amazing and the staff is great. The value for the dollar is outstanding with a lot more food then you get any place else for a lot less money. When we went in there were no tables available but were told that if we didn't mind we could sit at a table with 2 older gentleman, we did just that and had one of the best conversations with those 2 guys. The food was decent (we had the huevos rancheros and biscuits and gravy) but we waited over an hour to receive our food. There was no acknowledgement from the staff regarding the wait, and it was simply confusing how they could manage to have such poor service. We were seated in view of the kitchen and the plates came out at an alarmingly slow rate. The food was wonderful and who can say anything negative about their incredible Cinnamon rolls (unless you didn't like how large they were). We would order one for the whole family to share prior to receiving our breakfast. However, it has been sold to new owners. I have been there one time (after a period of the new owners getting established) and it was a horrible experience! The food had no flavor, the bread was hard, the service was poor! I just picked up a kielbasa skillet with green chili sauce with a pancake for the side and German sausage and eggs with sourdough toast. Everything has fantastic flavor and was good and hot. Corned beef hash was suppose to come with luxury potatoes, the waitress did bring us a side. The biscuit and gravy was cold and hard. We're only 4 tables filled in the reztraunt, but told us the reason for cold bad food was cooks were exhausted. We went in there on Memorial Day when most places were closed. Talk about slammed, but this place was slinging hash like champs. The old railroad car thing is really played up, but it's pretty neat to look around. It has the look of a place past it's prime, but the staff keeps the floor and the tables immaculately clean. Big plus there. If you're an upperclass suburbanite, you might cringe at the kitsch and crust. But if you know the value of getting your hands dirty for a living... brother you're in the right place. As for the food? I got a biscuits and gravy dish. The gravy was good stuff. Everything was piping hot and super tasty. Does it make sense to say that the gravy had depth of flavor? Like maybe somebody is cutting some bacon fat into it rather than just adding more flour. I don't know, but it's aces to me. The cook knows how to do a good sunny side up egg for sure. While we didn't grab one, they had those cinnamon rolls that look about the size of your head. A trip to the gym is mandatory if you're going that route. I have to say I was most impressed with the staff. They were super friendly, and their interactions with the regulars made you feel good about the direction of humanity in general. I am always looking for restaurants that combine lots of character with great food and service. We flew into the Cheyenne airport and asked for a recommendation from a person who worked there. We checked his recommendation on yelp and saw it good reviews, so decided to go. The Diner is not luxury--but that's what makes it great. It'a an old train car converted into a restaurant---a quaint hole in the wall. Service was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was awesome. Last, loved the food. Stopped in Saturday on the way to eclipse and enjoyed my meal. The place is small, but we were on a waitlist and got sat within 10 minutes. The food was great. What stood out to me was the fried pickle appetizer and the desserts. The environment was exactly what I was expecting, nothing fancy but fresh, good tasting food. The prices were great too.
