Upon walking in I was given a checklist to ensure that I was COVID free, and ensure that I'd contact my stylist if in the event that I develop any symptoms. Michell took my temperature, ensured I disinfected my sandals and gave me hand sanitizer before walking further into the salon. It was a tad tedious, but I'm very glad they took these necessary precautions. I was glad to see that there was one other person in the salon so it seems as though they stagger their clients. I did a twist out, and felt so taken care of. Michell is very knowledgable and was able to advise me on how to best take care of my hair. I have not been to a hair salon in a very long time, but my experience with Michell has me ready to come back next month. It was such a great experience!

I met Kalilah at an event and i was talking to her about my hair and how i was struggling to find a natural hair salon that can handle very coarse 4C hair. She assured me that she had girls in the shop who could handle my texture. She was right. She pointed me in Emmas direction. ( forgive me if i spell her name wrong, it drives me nuts when people dont spell my name right) I love the products that were used on my hair. My hair feels so light and airy. It even has a little bounce to it. Im amazed!! Not to mention, my hair smells divine. As you can see in the picture, my hair had a lot of split ends. She cut all that out. I am really pleased with my cut and the silk press. To be honest, i didnt know my hair could get that straight. Y'all don't understand, my hair is very African and loves water but thats it so i was nervous about this. I think conversation's with Emma made me feel better and instilled a little more confidence in me. The ladies in the shop as so lovely. I didn't feel rushed. The women there were all warm and welcoming(not mean mugging as if they hate their choice in life) That was so refreshing. His hair took a total of 1.5 hours I believe to complete as I was doing laundry not to far away. When I returned I was so please with the results. He was as well. My only critique of her work is that I told her i recently untwisted and washed my hair, and I clearly had fairy knots and she just kept pulling the comb through my hair instead of detangling from the top up so that was both painful and damaging. The service was decent and they were polite. Part of me not wanting to return is because it's too much of a commute from my side of Brooklyn. But honestly it's also because their size and pricing doesn't make any sense to me. Decided to try small Senegalese twist and right away I could tell that they charge different rates for small but really can only deliver "smedium". It was the same size as the first hairstyle I had done here and took twice as long, which to me isn't quite right if there's a difference in pricing. During the visit i'm sure she noticed me staring at the twists because she asked if I liked it a few times. But what can you say in the moment? It's a little embarrassing and awkward to be charged more for a style and then have to tell the stylists in front of everyone that they're not doing the job they were supposed to. And frankly at the pace she was twisting the smedium, I didn't want to risk getting stuck there at 4 AM by asking for a smaller size. I think the trend of hiking prices and delivering less is a trend among black salons in general right now that everyone notices so I won't say I don't recommend this place at all - just don't spend more money for small braids when the "smedium" (offering that sizing is also a bad sign that this is common with them) is the same size. As someone who also twists their own natural hair regularly, I know what small looks like and it just wasn't really giving that based on their own scale. Maybe if they didn't offer smedium, i'd believe that was their small.

Rae (the owner) is both personable and professional. She truly knows her craft. When I first walked in, I was feeling down about my hair changes due to my health, and Rae didn't just give me a hair consultation, she gave me a safe space to vent and feel heard. It was like talking to a sister who just happened to be a hair expert. Rae was so thoughtful, giving me great advice on what would and wouldn't work for my hair in my situation, and suggesting alternatives that made me feel confident again. The day that I had my hair done, Princess brought her to the sinks so she could test out whether or not she would be able to withstand the hair washing/ rinsing process. She left that day feeling hopeful. She had her hair relaxed today and she left feeling absolutely pleased and pain-free.
