Luzia is the 17th different Cirque Du Soleil show that I have seen. This felt more like a Las Vegas production than a show in a tent. It's going to be impossible to describe the show like I want without spoilers so be warned! When we took our seats I was surprised to see that a significant portion of the stage was covered in flowers. For the pre-show they brought out these little garden "robots" with watering cans on their heads. They really surprised me because they picked flowers, picked up tools, and even shook maracas! Before we knew it the show started with just a stunning image of a woman with giant butterfly wings running behind a giant silver horse (operated by at least three people) on a rotating conveyor belt. After this was a tumbling act on the rotating conveyor belt. It was so interesting to be able to see this from many different angles. Luzia is based on Mexican culture and fantasy. The imagery throughout the show was color, fun, and beautiful. You had everything from lucha libre costumes to people with giant fish heads "swallowing" their heads. The music and singing was lovely as well. I didn't know anything about this show and was shocked when "rain" started being incorporated into the acts. Sometimes it was to help with imagery for the story (think a woman on a trapeze swinging through it) but sometimes it was also used for comedy. The one part where the clown just wanted a drink of water was hilarious. They also had a section where the falling water made shapes such as hearts. I could have watched that for hours. I couldn't believe how much water was dropped during the production. The hand balancing act was played for humor and it worked really well. I've never seen hand balancing like this before and it was really well executed. The solo contortionist was interesting and horrifying at the same time. Normally I'm indifferent about juggling but their juggler really won me over with the "speed juggling" he did at the end of his act. Really great stuff! I must admit I got nervous during the straps act. I would have been fine with the artist just walking off of the stage instead of disappearing so high above the stage. The show was finished off with the Russian Swings, which is always spectacular. We all loved Luzia and were glad that we made the drive to attend it! read more

This show is absolutely beautiful! A total pleasure for the senses. I have seen about 5 other Cirque shows, some better than others, so I was hoping this would be one of the better ones, and it was! Color everywhere, live Spanish/Mexican style music, and of course, amazing feats of human strength, grace and choreography. I can't say enough how much I have enjoyed the Luzia show. I've been to a few of the cirque du soleil shows throughout the years from Vegas to Santa Monica to Costa mesa the OC fairground, where Luzia is exhibited. Compare to the Vegas cirque du soleil shows, the Luzia, is a much more intimate setting, it didn't have a hugh stage but a good center rotating stage, so you can see pretty much anywhere in the tent. This also reminded me of the original circus shows that, it's just close enough to see the act and play. They also used the tent as one of their canvas to make the whole show more immersive. In additions, they have added a lot of new elements that I didn't see from the previous cirque du soleil shows, such as singing, mixing water stage within normal stage, the cultural elements and yet comedic through some of the acts. It really takes it to a new level of circus shows that included theatrical acts and singing. It was much more then just a circus show. The set designs are also amazing. The artistry that has put in it was spectacular. I can't believe how many sets and ways they have utilized this rotating stage. I am very glad to have a chance watching this amazing show. One of the most memorable circus show I've ever been to. PS. VIP access includes parking, food and alcoholic beverages, dessert and popcorn! What an amazing show! I literally felt like I was in a Mexican dream the whole time I was watching. I got to the show an hour early to get tickets and to chill with drinks before the show began. The venue opened about 45 minutes prior to the show - guests who have VIP passes were able to access the lounge and enjoy drinks and snacks. I didn't get the VIP experience, so I bought a couple drinks at the bar and just walked around looking at souvenirs and took pictures. The food and drink prices surprisingly weren't too bad - $10ish for mules and margaritas, $8-15 for snacks like popcorn, nachos, pretzels, etc... When the curtains opened, I was greeted by an usher who helped me to my seats. The area is set up like other Cirque du Soleil shows - a big, round stage with the audience pretty much all around. This seemed a bit smaller compared to Vegas Cirque du Soleil shows. I LOVE the concept of the rotating stage so that everyone in the audience is able to see everything from different angles. The different acts throughout the whole event were absolutely amazing! They kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I don't know a lot about Mexican culture, but I LOVED seeing the different things Mexico has to offer. I told my fiance that we need to visit Mexico soon after watching this show. This show is amazing! I've been to a handful of cirque shows and this one definitely stands out as one of the best I've been to. The colors of the show and the music are bright and playful. It's a feel good happy show! This is a good show for kids too. Previously I had gone to shows in the Santa Monica pier and I didn't really like the seating arrangement, but here it was set up so much better and didn't feel like you were in a tent. The night we visited it was raining and luckily they were selling umbrellas. Simply Wow!! My first Cirque show and boy did it not disappoint. I see the billboard coming home from work every day. Yelp OC also had it listed on the Events page. All that pressure peaked my interest that I finally took the plunge tonight. If you haven't seen it yet, don't wait... They are only in OC for another week, and I have a feeling the next few days are going to be sellouts. Back to review. The venue is like an old school circus house: giant round tent with makeshift seating. Only now, it is aided by technological gizmos and gadgets. I personally think any seat in the house is not too bad, since the stage is round and rotates 360. It's also not a very big crowd. Costumes were amazing. Sound was great! Loved the variety of music, dance, song, and performances. Whimsical animal characters were delightful. Images in the water was beautiful! Real-life human pretzel freaked me out... Omg! Overall, a well-organized show!! The performers seemed very respectful. Ushers were professional. After seeing others' pics here, I wish I had gotten access to the VIP lounge. Sigh... My wife and I have been going to Cirque Du Soleil's traveling shows for the past 5 or 6 years. We enjoyed most of them especially Kurious. This one, was.... underwhelming. There was no act that I saw where it really gave me the whole WOW factor. Then some drunk biznatch sitting next to us, spills her RED muthafreaking WINE on my wife's jacket and pants. Buzzkill. These mofos didn't even apologize. I approached her and said to her, "apologize at least..." and her drunk ass says "I did... i did..." Stupid drunk people who can't hold their alcohol. The staff brought us some paper towels and allowed us to sit in some empty seats a few away from the drunko. Overall, the show just wasn't that great in my opinion. read more

Phenomenal performance. Luzia definitely captures the essence of Light and Rain, with a hint of elegance. This show was definitely well-directed; the performers were amazing at their roles, and the stage turns 360 so you'll always be able to see the front stage. The seats were decently comfortable, the food/drinks were a bit overpriced, but hey, you're there to enjoy the show. Overall, I'd say definitely go check it out! But go casually because the setting is definitely not high-end. read more

I have a huge love for Cirque Du Soleil shows. They have a way to capture the imagination without ever having to utter any real words or dialogue. From the fantastic costumes to the jaw dropping acrobatics the humor and athleticism is astounding. Luzia's story is based around the culture and history of not just Latin America but also Spanish and Portuguese. The vibrant colors are alive with yellows, pinks, and blues stunningly displayed on all props and costumes. The stage comes alive with water coming from places you don't expect, flowers popping out of the floor, and performers dropping from the sky. As signature to all Cirque Du Soleil shows the music is performed live with some musicians coming out to be a part of the show. There is whimsy in every direction and it's lovely. Although the show is finished if you had the chance to watch this spectacle you had a great time. If you didn't hopefully all the rave reviews will help fuel your curiosity and lead you to watch a Cirque Du Soleil show in the future. Ole! read more

Outstanding. This is one of the best cirque shows I've ever seen. The artistry, the athleticism - amazing. I can't say enough wonderful things about the show. The setting... meh. I wish I hadn't been cheap and that I'd spent some more money getting better seats. We were on the side, and while the performers made an effort to make sure that all sides saw the show, there were still a few things that I felt we missed because of our angle. We go with the family every year and it never disappoints. Great costumes, music and incredible performances. The contortionist in the 2nd half was really unbelievable but all of the acts were very entertaining. The rain was something new this year and I guess it added a little drama. The only downside is the porta potty line if you wait until intermission or when the show is over. Think ahead and time it right and you can save yourself 10 minutes in line. Great show, easy parking, good Mexican beer selection but no margarita machines. read more

I think this is the 10th Cirque Du Soleil show my husband and I have seen. We love seeing each new performance with a new set of imagined circumstances. The OC Fairgrounds is a great place to come see these shows because it is ample (and close) parking and the weather is always very nice. The tents are heated/have AC so no real need to worry, but when you leave at night it's usually very temperate at the Fairgrounds. The shows are spectacular. Incredible performers, beautiful costumes and gorgeous music. Each time we see a show we are stunned by at least one of the acts. The theatrical elements are beautiful and there are always a few, "How did they do that?!" moments of dramatic effect. Beautiful show, great family night out. Really worth it. I took my husband and 5 year old daughter to see Luzia and we could not have been more in love with this show. The performers were all amazing and it was such an engaging show. It seemed like the time went so fast because of all that was going on. Fantastic show. Fantastic music. Luzia turned out to be a surprise for us. We weren't sure what to expect as the theme was cultural in nature, but Cirque did it with great style and taste. My wife is from Mexico and she felt that they did an excellent job of portraying the cultural aspects in a very good way. We were very happy that we got tickets. Really liked ALL of the acts and really liked the animals/special characters. You will not regret going. Hope they continue the cultural theme idea. Highly recommend. read more
