Feb 2022 - Neat design right in front of the theater

How many of you knew of the Samueli Theater? Not I! Nor my guest. I'm a fan! It's an intimate space where I got to experience one of Broadway's most sought-after stars, Caissie Levy. The set up for last night was a 350-seat arrangement -- circular tables with high-rise chairs. It made for a very comfortable spacing situation. There was generous spacing between you and your neighbor. There are two levels -- artist/floor level and 2nd level. I had Table 209. It was an excellent spot. Had an unobstructed view and only one neighbor to the left of us since we were at the corner. I would recommend this venue and this seat again! Caissie's performance was excellent. Just wish it was longer. She was so good. Lastly, a deduction of 1 star for lack of signage. You cannot see this building from the main area that everyone is familiar with and there continues to be a staffing shortage which makes getting to where you need to go (outside and inside) challenging. Signage will help out with the staffing issue. Something for Management to consider.

This is a nice theatre, and all of the staff were mostly helpful. The theatre itself was difficult to find. I have seen many shows in the main auditorium, which seats more than 3,000. This much smaller theatre seats just upwards of 300. Unfortunately, a cabaret with Covid restrictions is much more difficult to enjoy than one without. I have been to very similar Broadway star cabarets in New York that offer (often themed) appetizers, drinks, desserts. Being able to only take bottled water into the theatre for this type of show specifically was disappointing. For being so strict with the safety protocols, I am surprised they are seating strangers at the same circular bar-height tables as one another on the second floor. The seats were not assigned beyond the table number, so we were able to select the two directly facing the stage, while the other two chairs faced the complete wrong direction and resulted in obstructed views due to the table in front of us. Caissie Levy's performance itself was good. It started with a sort of story that followed her theatre career but that seemed to unravel mid-show. I question the performance line-up choice, as it started off strong with more recognizable tunes corresponding to her Broadway journey, it unraveled with less and less relatable music and the dissolution of her story. I was let down with the finale that consisted of the acoustic version of Let It Go. Not sure if I'd return unless I was extremely tempted by the performer/group, and certainly not until more restrictions are lifted.

Stopped by for a show and I never even knew that this little theater had been sitting here. I have been going to Segerstrom for years, but I have typically seen broadway shows. This theater is small, has chairs instead of booth seats but holds a couple hundred people. It's a really nice venue for a small intimate show.

Beautiful "golden black box" theater. Great place to enjoy chamber music or light jazz.

Review for NYE special event. I was not paid nor am I receiving any form of compensation to leave…read morethis review, and I paid my own way into the event. Honestly - the reviews scared me. I'm an almost 30 something going into an Irvine club on NYE known for things getting stolen, bouncers being weird, and expensive drinks. I had LOW expectations. However, my experience was quite the opposite! Arriving: It was raining when we arrived around 10:15pm, and there was no line to get in. Bouncers were kind and efficient. I do wish they searched bags though - I was not asked to open my bag, which was concerning because bad people tend to do bad things on holidays. Atmosphere: It's a dark and medium/small sized nightclub. They had it dressed up a hint for NYE, but it seemed pretty standard to how I've seen it in photos. They had an outdoor area, but there was no music and it was pouring rain. While there was a tent outside, it was just too wet to even go out. Bathrooms: There are two small restrooms with appx 4-5 stalls each. There is a very sweet bathroom attendant who provides hand towels. The restrooms were clean and mostly smelled good. Drinks: I bought the all you can drink package, and I was scared that they'd pour light / not have what I wanted / have a limited menu / be too busy and ignore me / etc. This was NOT my experience. The tenders poured well, the drinks tasted good, and there was a good selection. I was always taken care of quickly with waits of less than 5 minutes. Noted, I tipped well for each drink. TIP YOUR BARTENDERS! Music: Very top 40 with a little EDM sprinkled in. As a millennial, I enjoyed the mix. Yeah it was loud, it's a nightclub. Everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves. The bouncers even pulled out a guy who was literally falling over drunk onto other dancers. I thought they cared for the situation well and with grace. NYE Festivities: Honestly, there weren't many. The club looked a slight bit decorated, and the party favors that were promised with our ticket we're SO limited. Yes, they said while supplies last... but I swear they handed out less than 20 noise makers for the whole club. They also promised champagne showers throughout the night as well as a complimentary champagne toast for the whole club at midnight. Neither champagne option was followed through on. I was also promised two dance floors, and there was clearly only one available. Other things: Seems like there may be some deferred maintenance in the building. The roof was HELLA leaky near the bathroom. They used cones to block it off, but the floor was soaked. Overall, I had a nice time. I removed the star for the lack of follow through on the NYE specific things that were promised to me on my ticket that were not delivered. I also removed the star due to the roof leaking heavily. Other than that, I thought it was a safe, fun, and enjoyable way to spend NYE.

My friend booked online the day off the event for an Upper Level VIP Booth for $300 + tax/fees. We had a good time & of course with thanks to the alcohol too :) Music was not bad but I felt it was better towards the end of the night. Well, here's the quick run down --- Arrived by 10:45PM. No lines whatsoever & no hostess at the front. Just the security working out front & they walked us in to our VIP table. The main club room was at no more than 40% capacity but the smaller patio room was packed (more chill vibe, music was not my liking tho). We didn't get the Upper Level Booth cuz there were hardly anyone there that bought a VIP booth so they closed off all that section. So we were on the floor bout 3 tables away from the DJ booth. The choice of alcohol (priced at $300) we wanted was not available said our hostess. IMO - there was not a lot of bottle choices to begin with. So we had to pick something of a higher price & we ended up having to gett a decent bottle priced at $500. Otherwise if not, we all be having hangover the next day! Oh don't forgot that increase of bottle price doesn't include tax & gratuity, so will have to pay more than what was paid online. 3 lovely waitresses did come out with signs & bottle sparkles to our table. They were super sweet. We had water bottles & mixers. I forgot her name but our assigned waitress came to check on us through out the night & made our drinks as needed. Service was good. They also had 1 aerialist which seemed a bit outta place & unnecessary . DJ Kim Lee did not come on til 11:30PM and left by 12:30AM! Her set was a-ok but we made the best of it & enjoyed our time out. We almost stayed til the end but left around 1:30AM where there was practically no one on the dance floor. Few wore masks & most did not. So all I can stay there was plenty of room to dance all over the main room & no long lines waiting for drinks at the bar or even at the restroom!

The whole experience is what makes it special--the ambiance, the Latin flavors, the service, everything is on point. But what really sets it apart is the folklórico dance performance. You don't just eat here, you get a full experience. It feels like a beautiful little piece of Spain brought to Costa Mesa. The dinner is like a full three-course experience while you watch the dancers, and it's just so memorable and unique. If you're in Orange County, this is a must-visit spot--you really should treat yourself at least once. Also, if you stay after dinner, it opens up into a club and you don't have to pay entrance into the club. They have a nice bar outside, so the ambience is flowing Ali he with drinks. The evenings that I've stayed after they have two rooms OK they have a DJ room and then they have the band room, I don't know if they have a band every single night but the times I've been there they do and I like that you one room is very club vibe and then you can go into the band room and it's more like salsa lit up vibing. Whoever is there so far looks like he's there as a punishment. Wanted to order a drink at the bar and the guy totally overlooked me. and that's not the first time. Dance with the Dead --last saw them in San Diego in 2017, tried to see them again along with magic sword and avatar in 2020 but that was cancelled because of COVID, finally got to see them live last night and it was epic! No wonder this tour is called the FACE OFF tour! Dance with the Dead and Magic Sword brought their kick$&* danceable energy and the crowd went wild! So, the concert was 5/5! The venue was 4/5-love the intimate space, appreciated that the sound was balanced and not too loud. However, the parking situation was crazy. I realize the street construction by Santa Ana wasn't the venue's fault and they DID try to notify us that there would be detours... however, to designate three levels of parking as general-general; premier-general; and premier-premium is just stupidly confusing. We had the middle tier which made us think we went through the premier entrance but no, we had to do a U- turn in an already trafficky situation to go to the general entrance. Whatever. We got there. But maybe designate the tiers more succinctly and clearly?! Anyway the FACEOFF tour rocks! And the Observatory is still cool as a concert venue and we'll likely go again!

The entrance process was licketty split - we carried everything in our pockets. Upon entering, there's a photo spot, merch off to the right, as well as a bar and outdoor seating. To the left of the entrance is a smaller room, this time used for vendors,, but I suspect could be a multi-use space as needed. Bathrooms - clean and well stocked throughout the night - are also this way. Up along a poster covered hallway, and into the concert area you go! There's the stage in the front and a bar in the back. It's GA here folks, but there's a balcony with seats above. We chose the first tier behind the dance floor as there's a standing bar/shelf that spans the railing which is great to lean on and space to put drinks down. The location was perfect for us - up high enough to see everything going on onstage, great view of the folks dancing, and again, offered a space for our drinks and a restful lean. The sound system and lighting effects were fantastic! The lighting perfectly fit the dark, moody, goth atmosphere while the music was as clean and powerful as you'd want. No muddy, echoy, indistinct sound here. And extra wonderful? A pumping AC that kept the packed house cool and fresh as everyone danced all night. Such a great concert and really, the perfect venue for it: intimate yet spacious enough for comfort. Really great venue!
