My fiancee and I used Lyft exclusively during our recent trip to Detroit and Dearborn. In my experience around the country, Lyft fares are generally cheaper than Uber fares. I didn't bother to compare fares between Lyft and Uber in Michigan because both my fiancee and I each had received 25% off rides for a limited time. Supposedly, we got the discounts because we had gotten 5-star ratings. Considering we both received these discounts and didn't do anything special, I suspect they're commonplace. The promos were good for a maximum of 10 rides per user (so 10 for my fiancee and 10 for me) with a maximum discount of $5 per ride. Not bad. We took Lyft to and from the airport, between Detroit and Dearborn, and from Dearborn to Farmington Hills. We also used Lyft to get to restaurants and even run errands to the drugstore. 100 percent of the drivers we encountered were friendly, had clean cars, and got us to our destinations safely. They showed up on time and we had no issues. To give you an idea on cost, our return trip from our hotel (The Henry, Autograph Collection in Dearborn) to Detroit Metropolitan Airport on a Sunday morning cost $24.35 plus tip. The ride was 13.36 miles and took 15 minutes 49 seconds. Most of the vehicles were sedans, but we got into an SUV too. Pet Lyft was awesome with my dog and I, and normally the privet rides I book for work and stuff are great, but Cory from Lorain canceled my ride to work in downtown Elyria the one morning, and took my money. Lyft has a no refund policy go to find out after hours at work bless my aunts heart who took me, and thankfully wasn't pointed because my manager was too tired to doc me another half point that morning . The Lyft help center has no numbers to call no email, but a virtual Al bot, who isn't human mind you, and don't understand nothing. I went in circles wanting my money back all day, well kicker finally got only $16 and some change back and then Lyft took that out of my account and refunded only $3 and some change two days later. Oh, and wouldn't try anything, because My account is locked, and I'm behind keeping it that way. Huntington don't let nothing leave my account to anyone, that I don't buy from. This has been the worst service experience I've ever had. Every time I booked a ride, unauthorized charges kept appearing on my credit card from California. I had to repeatedly cancel these illegal charges. At first, I assumed it was a mistake, but now I've deleted the app and will never feel safe using this company again. I am no longer allowed to drive due to a medical condition. My friend usually takes me around, but his car died and was in the shop. He arranged to have a Lyft driver pick us up and take us to where we needed to go. We met our driver just before our designated time and he had folders and documents all over his backseat. My friend asked him if it would be okay to move the papers off the back seat because he needed a place to sit. The driver said okay. The driver drove recklessly, wore no seatbelt, and blasted music during the drive. My friend and I were cordial with the driver and still gave him the typical 20% tip despite him not really deserving it. It was even a pretty short ride. After our ride ended, my friend's account was charged an additional $40 damage fee. When we asked about the reason for the charge, Lyft provided 3 photos as "evidence", but the photos are questionable at best. We reached out to Lyft customer service about it because the photos showed staining, but did not show which seat was stained, a timestamp of when the photos were taken, and/or even if it was the same car we were in. The definition for the "damages" that the driver claimed we caused - which we definitely did not as neither of us had any liquids or food at the time - is "$20: Minor damage such as mud, dirt, fur, food or drink residue on the vehicle seats. $40: Moderate messes such as biowaste, and large messes from food or spills, on the exterior or floorboard of the vehicle" (Lyft, 2025). As this alleged damage was on the seat, we shouldn't be charged $40 but $20, assuming that we did cause it, which again is not possible as we did not have any food or spills from any liquids. Both my friend and I had no baggage or items to bring with us either. Lyft customer service said that they reopened the investigation and determined that they will not cancel the charges. Avoid this company at all costs. They are nothing but scammers and they should be shut down. Get a lift with anybody else but Lyft. read more

I was a driver for Lyft until someone contacted Lyft and said that I wouldnt let them out of my car and tried to assault them yet somehow they managed to get out of my car without being assaulted. They don't have any phone number where you can speak to a live person just autom messages via email. Anyone can just make up any story they want on you even if they were not in your vehicle ever and get you terminate. If you ever get a driver named Mahmoud - he has a mustache in his photo, bushy eye brows and a green background. He drives a black pick up truck. Avoid him at all cost. I think he drives around the midtown - downtown area and he mentioned he lives near the airport. He dropped my mom and I off at 1 am and then in the morning I wake up to a charge of $150 on my Lyft account for damages. As evidence he sent in photos of vomit in his car as well as food strewn around - this could literally be images of any car. This is a blatant lie. So now I have a hold on my account because I refused to pay it (my bank flagged the charge as fraudulent). I'm sure he's done this before and will do it again. I ride Lyft twice daily to and from work. I had a driver by the name of Jasmine who drives a white ford fusion.. cancel my ride and put me out of her car and threatened to call the police if I didn't get out of her car.. she was late picking me up. the timer said driver will arrive in 3minutes. looking at her location her car was stopped for 15 minutes. I called her to make sure that the app was prop working and that I didn't miss her.. when she made it to me I was late for work! They said A driver in a white Toyota whose name starts with a T was on their way, then the driver canceled the ride, then they texted one whose name starts with E was coming in a silver Toyota, they said he was there to pick me up but he wasn't, They asked me to rate the service with him, I didn't but I would say zero since he never came, then they said a driver with the first name of E in a Black Toyota was on their way. They said he was here but he wasn't. Then they said the driver with the first initial of F in a gray Toyota was arriving in 5 minutes. But they didn't come. Then someone with the first initial S in a black Toyota. They didn't show. Then first initial A in a Buick - you guessed it - a no show. Then - the first initial P in a Hyundai - didn't come. Then first initial M in a gray Nissan - again a no show. Then first initial H in a silver Hyundai, they said he is here - no he isn't. They wanted to rate my ride with him. For the most part my Lyft experiences have been great! I had one instance where the driver took the loooonnng route so I made sure to put that in my review at the end of my ride... I wasn't a passenger. I was leaving the airport when one of your drivers cut me off and slammed on his brakes like I was tailgating him. So I tried to avoid him by getting in the next lane. When I did i noticed his window was down. So I rolled down my window to tell him to stop driving like an ass. I'm well aware that you guys track all your Driver and I have given you enough info for lyft to resolve this issue. Beware!!!! Lyft will try and bait you into an upgrade by displaying the difference that the upgraded vehicle will cost instead of the total fare the upgrade will be. Stupid me. I ordered a basic Lyft ride the other night and was prompted to upgrade by implying that the difference between the fares would be around 10.00. From 32 to 42 dollars. However to my surprise they billed me 42 dollars MORE than the basic Lyft fare I was quoted and did not issue a refund or a credit. They do not quote the different fares as Uber does. I used to advocate for using Lyft until I received an extra charge because it was raining buckets and the inside of a driver's car got wet. I had no way to open the door without rain coming in. Do not rely on Lyft for a future, time critical pickup! An airport ride, for example.. I had one booked for next day at 4:15. At 4:15 we got a text saying the car is 20 minutes away. Ok, we can more or less live with that. Then, ten minutes later, new text from new driver - 20 minutes away. Now it's already 4:30, no news, we're getting nervous, flight leaves at 6 am. The Lyft company lied to recruit me. I was told that I would get a $500 bonus for being a new driver. All I needed to do was get 100 rides in my first 30 days. Well I did that, and then was told I didn't enter a promo code on my application. My application was done over the phone. A Lyft employee either lied about bonus or neglected to give me the needed code. After spending 2 hours on the Lyft help line, talking to 4 different reps, I was told that they would extend the 30 days and I could drive another 100 rides for the promised bonus! Like I am going to fall for that again. I had multiple issues starting out as a new driver, they never once responded to an email, and I was left on hold when I got a rep on the phone.
