Shadow Brook Apartments - 1 BR loft style

Been here going on my sixth year, I like it here and the price is right. My only suggestion is…read moremake sure you get the size apt you want right off the bat. Don't compromise because they don't let get a bigger apt once you move in, that's where you stay. Doesn't make sense to me, but that how they do it. I have the efficiency without the loft. I like it but wish I had gone for the 1 bedroom.

I currently live at Shadow Brook Apartments. I renewed my lease after living here a year and I…read morereally enjoy it. The grounds are well maintained, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and quick to respond. The structure of Shadow Brook is a non profit and the apartments are leased for ranges, based on your income (though it IS NOT section 8 housing). They offer efficiencies on up, and are usually on a wait list. They only show apartments on Fridays and do not always have one to show each Friday, though they do have a photograph album of model apartments and floor plans. Initially I was nervous to rent an apartment without seeing the unit first, but I couldn't be happier. With the option I chose (the loft style 1 bedroom) I have plenty of space and am able to live on my own affordably ($490 a month rent). Many of my friends and classmates pay nearly double to live, in many cases, a worse complex. When I moved to Arlington and told people I live at Shadow Brook I usually got an odd look, and some informed me that it used to be bad, but that was before Foundation Communities bought it a couple of years ago. Today, I have never felt unsafe nor have I worried about being ripped off or felt like my neighbors were shady. Upon my renewal they cleaned my carpet for free, they offer residual pest control and special request pest control visits each Wednesday (at no additional charge, without limits) and they use ABC Pest and Lawn. In the back of the complex is a boys and girls club and at tax season United Way sets up and helps you file your taxes for free. At least once a month they have a "produce day" where fresh produce can be bought at a good cost in the front of the building. Its close to UTA (actually a shorter bike ride for me than a drive due to the traffic on Cooper) and well located. I will renew again next year if it continues to be the wonderful property I have enjoyed.

Robert is extremely helpful and very quick to respond. He was instrumental in making the move-in process seamless and pain-free. He is also just a great individual to have managing a property. It's not just the luxury building, amenities, and views that won our hearts. It's the people! We instantly became friends with the staff! Taylor, Kenzie, Ericka and Olivia are the best! So sweet, helpful, and fun to be around! They are always great to help in any way and great to get good restaurant ideas from! They even sent me warm cookies on my birthday! Paul and Armando have been amazing to help fix anything we need super quick!! The Craftworks staff are so friendly and make a great coffee! Caleb, Chris, Tanesha, and Liam are always very helpful as concierge too! The community is VERY dog friendly and they keep the dog park very clean! The pool is amazing- just like a resort! The game room and sky deck are designer dreams for entertaining! The gym is large and very clean! They also host great community events every month! In January we had a mimosa and pancake brunch; a pizza and beer football party; and hot chocolate and donut day! It's great to have gated parking and the building is very safe and secure! Housekeeping is fabulous at keeping the building immaculate! We absolutely love our apartment and the downtown views from our large terrace! While it was a big change and downsize for us, we couldn't be happier! We plan to live here a very LONG time!

I also saw a dog hop from someone's car and attack someone walking down the side walks. Lots of homeless people around the 711, smoke shops, storage places, etc. Lots of poop on the property and they had a drive by at the mailboxes INSIDE the complex a few years back. Also so close to the airport you can read the flight numbers on the planes. Terrible complex for the amount of money youre paying. Nevermind the pool parties that go well into the mornings.

My apartment is uninhabitable…read more My apartment has a plumbing issue that was painted over when I first moved in a few days ago. The water stain is growing and encompasses more than half the length of the wall, near the carpet. The carpet is wet from waste, and my apartment smells like manure. I am unable to use the toilet, electrical socket on the wall and enjoy the comforts of my home because I am fearful of the sewage smell and spreading of water. Do I really have to spend 16 months in this dump? Please help. (Update 9/26/17: please disregard Camden's response. The issue has not been resolved the last time I checked, which was this morning when I woke up. Until I am able to go home after work to see if the issue is resolved, Camden, do not say it's been resolved when is has not).
