We booked a cabin at Kentucky Beach Resort in July of 2013. The rooms are outdated, not that clean, uncomfortable furniture, full of wasp nests, and the patio furniture was dirty and mildewed. We were the only family at the resort for the entire week. This is not a fancy place. We are not fancy people, so we thought we would book again in 2015 because of how dead and secluded the place was and just not stay a full week. So, I came prepared with a can of RAID and some extra towels so I could clean up a little and make my family a little more comfortable. Not a big deal to us. Please keep in mind, this place boasts plenty of amenities, but they are not what they make them out to be. Literally, all there is to do is fish in the morning, swim in the pool all day, cool off in the cabin (if you can cool off, the air conditioning does not work that great) and fish a little at night. We came prepared to do just that. When we arrived however, the pool had no water in it!! We later found out the pool had been down for weeks but I'm jumping ahead of myself. The first person to greet us was the man that owned the place. When we asked about the pool he immediately became hostile and rude. We stated that it would have been nice to have been told that the pool was not working when we booked. He started blaming everything under the sun as to why the pool didn't work, blaming us for not asking, blaming the weather, you name it! My husband and I just stood there and listened to him berate and raise his voice at us. I even tried to throw him a bone by saying maybe he was just busy and it slipped his mind. He started yelling at me saying that he wasn't busy at all. I don't think he understood that didn't make him look any better. When we tried to speak to him, he got mad and walked into the office and just left us there. We waited a few minutes to see if he would return and finally my husband had to walk into the office and check on the situation. The man's wife was there and she was calm, but the man continued to raise his voice at my husband. My husband asked him to calm down and said nicely that there was no reason for him to raise his voice. If anyone should be upset, it should be us! Even the man's wife had to get involved and tell her husband to calm down. I told my husband we should just forfeit the deposit and write a bad review for them. The man overheard this and that was the ONLY time during this entire situation that he showed any concern. He stormed out of the office and I overheard him tell his wife that they should just make us leave because we would write a bad review for them one way or the other. The wife tried to help and was nice, but the fact of the matter is, honesty goes a long way. She's actually the person that booked our stay so she should have said something. She tried to persuade us to stay by saying we could swim at their beach. The beach is about 20 ft of what looks like 10 bags of pool sand spread out with murky, weedy, warm back water to swim in. And to top things off she said there was around 50 people down there using it. I still can't figure out where them 50 people came from considering I seen 3 cars there and 2 of them belonged to their employees. I did see a family of five and they did leave all their belonging on the "sand beach" and that took up about all the room there was! We were offered a voucher to come stay another time because they refused to return our money. Believe me there wasn't a line of people hoping to stay in those cabins so they didn't lose any money. It's just greed. I understand business, but you don't yell and berate your customers for your shortcomings. My husband and I decided to turn around and go home. The thought of paying that man any more money was completely repulsive to us. If they would have just said the pool was out service we would have just booked the following week and if the man had just shown some professionalism and courtesy, maybe we would have stayed or at least come back at another time. Instead, I will copy and paste this review to every site I can find and I did call my brother who was looking for a cabin for August and let him know not to book here!!!! If you read all the reviews, notice the negative ones all state that whatever issues they had were completely ignored and even one time a person comments on how the male owner even hangs up the phone after they complained about bugs in their room! Things happen. Not every stay can be perfect. It's how you handle the situation that makes customers come back for your business. We will never be back here and do NOT recommend this place and we will be sure to spread the word!! read more
