I gotta say i was impressed with this gun range . I used to shoot here 30 years ago when there was no range and it was like the wild west . People would be shooting while other people were setting up targets . Sometimes the people would listen and stop shooting so you could set up targets. Those days are now gone , this range is run professionally and very safe. Every step of the way is safe . The range master is really up on everybody and pays attention to everything going on . I had a couple questions regarding when i could put my gun back in the car and a couple other and he answered them professionally . I hadn't shot out in the open in many years so i was kind of questioning whether to go and look stupid or not but you don't have to worry about that at all . From the time you pull in , you pull your car up to the outside of the red cones and go in the back side of the trailer where the picnic tables are and not the front side closest to where you park. Then at the picnic tables they have a bunch of forms on clipboards for you to fill out . Unlike what i read in some of the reviews, there is only one short form and they just want you name, address, lic plate number and a signature . Pretty much all of the rules are on this sheet of paper . It does take about ten minutes to read it through but its not bad at all . Then you take the clipboard into the trailer and the lady inside is plenty nice . She took the clipboard and asks you a few questions about if you have eye and ear protection, if you need targets and if you need the little yellow flags that you have to install in your open chamber when the range master calls a cease fire for target set up . At this point you move your car into the inside of the red cones and back it into an open spot . You can park in any empty spot . You can only take your gun (pointed up with it unloaded or the slide open) to the bench when people are firing and not during the cease fire. For the pistols at least there is a long row of shooting spots that is covered and every shooting spot has a metal stool to sit on and a wood table to set your gun and ammo on and use to rest your arms on if you shoot that way . When you are sitting at your spot shooting though you have to make sure the barrel of your gun is at or a little past the end of the table/metal pole . ( He politely let me know i had my barrel too far back so i adjusted the stool forward and all was good) . At this point i waited for the cease fire which is a ten minute window every 20 minutes of shooting to set up my target that i bought from them . These targets are just 2 wood stakes with two targets upper and lower on cardboard. These actually work out really well because on the range they have a metal bar going all the way across so you just set the wood stakes into the slot which couldn't get easier and you don't have to pound them in which was very nice . After the cease fire i loaded my clips and started shooting for the 20 minutes until another cease fire. At the cease fire you have to have the gun unloaded and the slides open with the little yellow flag that you can buy to stick into the open chamber so the range master can walk by and quickly scan the line to make sure everything is unloaded. Also during the cease fire you can sweep up your spent casings with the broom and dustpan that is already there . Also during the cease fire you cant touch the guns or put them away and you have to be off the cement shooting line so he can make sure nobody will be shooting . After the ten minutes he clears it for live fire and off you go again . I read all the other reviews and i still had a lot of questions so i thought id do a review with how everything worked from when i pulled in to when i was finished so you could have a better idea how everything works here . One thing i did do though was i packed up and left when they were firing which is fine but i totally forgot my target when i left . I couldn't get it anyway because they were still firing but i guess i should have waited to get my target during the cease fire first but live and learn . Im sure things like that happen and its no big deal though . I hope this helps someone like me that hadn't been to a professional range before and didn't know what you are suppose to do and how things work . By the way the price for adults are $16, kids $8, the targets they had were $6 and they give you two with two targets on each one and the yellow flags for the open chambers are $1. Liars and thieves! I have been to Lytle Creek Firing Range four times. Never again! Every time I've been there it's been windy. Knowing that I called ahead to check the conditions, because I wanted to dial in my scope at the 200 and 300 yard range, and was told it was a beautiful calm day. I show up an hour later and there is gusty swirling wind out on the range. Windy enough that their flimsy $6 targets kept falling apart. At the end of the day I set my spotting scope up on the bench and go and retrieve my targets and put my gear away. Pissed off and in a hurry to get out of there I forgot my scope sitting on that bench. The range master was the only one on the firing line when I left. When I called the next morning it had not been turned in. I can't prove who STOLE it, but I have my suspicions. This happened on 4/11/14, as of today 4/14 management has still not called me back on this matter. Apparently they don't take theft seriously. Don't waste your $ or your time here. There's better places to shoot. read more

Had an awesome day at Lytle Creek Firing Line. You can shoot at 25yards all the way to 200yards. $14dollars and you can shoot all day. Very well structured, Safety seems to be the staff's #1 priority. read more

Awe the Great Outdoors...Pretty area about 15 min west of the 15 fwy off Sierra. People were great, only $14 bucks all day, open almost everyday, even if it rains. They will close if it gets to foggy. Very nice lady checked us in and gave us our wrist bands. You can back you vehicle right up to the range. Bring some Jackets and gloves if its winter, 35 degrees when we went Jan 7th. They sell target stands for 5 bucks, or you can bring Boxes or I used old Open House signs I had from Real Estate. Might want to bring a Hammer to secure into the ground. Fun day! I'll bring a lunch next time and stay a bit longer. read more

I used to shot here, in the canyon back in the 70's and 80's, where you "run what you brung". You ran the risk of getting shot when you went out to set up targets or when the idiots would shot from their cars as they drove by to their spot. I stopped going because the stupid people kept getting worse. Two years back, my son asked if I would take him out shooting. After checking around I saw that the L.C.F.L. was open in my old shooting spot. Boy was I glad to see that we now had a safe place to go. I had been to indoor ranges over the years, but you are limited to what you can shoot. Besides, who really wants to shoot a rifle 30 feet. Junior bought his first shotgun, and the day after he got it we went up to the range. The first thing I noticed was the check-in process. Yes, the paperwork was a pain but it gave us a little time to take in what was happening around us. After check-in we were off to the line. We started with shotguns, for obvious reasons, and threw some clays. We met another group who brought some different ammo, 00 buck and slugs. We talked with them during the "cease-fires", we shared experiences, advice and ammo, boy was that cool, never shot slugs before. After almost two hours, we headed over to the 50/100yd range. Some of the range masters also work the parking areas, this helps keep everything moving and there were no traffic jams or accidents (They even help you back into your spot). The best time to move is during "cease-fire", this way by the time you are parked the "live-fire" is back on and you can unload you weapons. Once we were ready, we got set up on a table/s (depending on day of the week or amount of people). They have a two gun per table limit and they ask that you keep all the cases or sleeves in your vehicle to keep the area clear. The reason for this was simple to figure out once we started shooting, hot spent casings. We had brought and bought a few cardboard targets, we found the best use for the old used ones was to block our casings (as they came from the gun) from landing on our neighbors. Yeah, this takes a little extra work but soon we saw a few other people doing it. We shot pistols first, then the big guns and at no time did we feel out of place next to better shooters. We were there all day and had a great time. I am writing this extra review because their are some people who just feel the need to complain about anything. 1- The map was wrong. Be thankful you have a map on your phone, us old people had to learn how to use a paper map. 2- There is no cell service there. Did you not notice that you are in a valley and you just drove 10 miles out of the populated area. At least take the time on the drive out to stop on the side of the road, walk out to the stream and soak your feet, or even have a picnic. You are out in the fresh air, enjoy it. 3- The line was too long at check-in. Don't sleep in until noon next time, they open at 8:00, be there when they open. Oh yeah, for a few bucks extra (one time only) you can get a range card so you don't have to fill out the paperwork every time. 4- The man was mean to me. Did you not read the rules at check-in, if you had, many of the issues people are complaining about would not be a problem. By the way CEASE FIRE means just that, stop shooting not I just need to empty the mag. Also, if you own a firearm in this wonderful state of California, you should know and understand the rules before you take it anywhere that is open to the public and legally managed to operate in this state. If you don't like the rules you can always take your chances out where the other people go who don't like to follow rules. 5- It's too expensive. Yes, it does cost $16.00, but it is for the whole day. If you bring your own targets, ammo, drinks, snacks and what ever else you may need, it's only $16.00 for the whole day. Have you gone to Disney, Knott's or Magic Mtn. lately, what's that cost for the day? Indoor ranges are about the same price and may be closer to your home, but this is a different kind of experience. Almost every time we go, there is someone who has brought something I have not seen or shot. If you take the time to talk with them most people will let you try it out. 6- Finally, They close too early. Again, get there earlier. Apparently you have never owned your own business or worked for any business "open to the public". If they close at 4:00 p.m., they need to start shutting down the line at 3:30 so that by 4:00 most people are on their way out. Please do not be on of those people that shows up right at closing time and expect to be greeted by a happy person. You are taking time away from their personal life, how would you feel if unthoughtful people did this to you and you could go home to your families. If you are one of those people and don't care, you get what you get. Maybe these people should just stay at home and have everything delivered to them so they never have to go out in the real world read more

So, lm in line to get my CCW in San Bernardino and was looking for a training class so I wouldn't embarrass myself in front of Sheriff Dept. Looked for classes online and quickly found out there are many and also costly. Was told Lytle Creek Shooting Range had a class for under $40 + 500 rounds. Called to check, and was told yes. Signed up for class via conversation. Arrived at Lytle Creek Range at 7:30am for my 8:00am class and to my surprise there was a line of cars to get in on a Saturday. Haven't been here in years. Gate opened, drove in and parked. Went in office to sign up and was pleasantly greeted. Told cashier that I was here for a Tactical Handgun Class. Filled out paper work and had to pay. Would you believe $16 bucks. Asked again and was told yes. Ok. Waited outside with couple of guys for a minutes. Looked around and the range looks a lot better then I remembered. We were introduced to our instructor Jon Jurman. First Impression, serious guy. Like it. Drove myself up gravel road to a private range. Everybody gets out and here we go. Rules first. Expectations second, course review third. Each of us got a target to shoot at from 15 yards to 3 yards marked off. Holster draw was first. Oh gotta bring holster and mag pouch. Once we could all draw safely we gassed up. Going live. 5 in group witch was great. Jon was really good at giving us direction. Within an hour I was not only shooting better I was learning not to be a target. Practiced recovery from jams, movement, mindset, draw, sidestep. While all this shooting is going on Jon is giving real life experience examples of his years in police dept. Gives you something to chew on while he's yelling "gun" behind you making you panic and is watching everybody's movements. End of day, more words to reinforce what we had all learned. Muscle memory and mindset. Awesome. For the price, Forget it. Will be taking this class as often as I can. read more

The range is clean and the staff was helpful, etc. The price of $16 per person is a little high. They don't have any free target stakes, therefore you'll have to purchase them at $6 (comes with 1 target) or bring your own. Some ranges have them around, but not at this range. In addition, it's cash only and you must have a chamber safety flag/tool. If you don't, then it's $1 per safety flag. The benches are a little close. Somebody was shooting a semi and the brass was constantly raining down. I know it goes with the territory, but other ranges are little better spaced. The 100 yard or less is level, the 200 yard is uphill at about an elevation gain of 75 feet or so, so you'll have to adjust for that. Overall, descent range, nice area and good range safety officer's. read more

I have shot here 6times in the last 3 months. The range masters are strict but with good reason! I have never seen or heard one get nasty with someone unless they wouldn't follow simple instructions! They are helpful and NOT overbearing. The negative comments here are for people who simple want to do whatever they want no matter how unsafe. Remember people are handling guns! Oh ,and if this is such a terrible place why do people bring pop ups tables and grills and make it an all day event for family and friends. My advice, Go There if you want to feel safe while shooting! read more

First time there with 7 friends and family. Mike the range master was very friendly and was very respectful if you forgot any of the safety etiquette's. He did not make you feel stupid or embarrassing (it was not me that i am talking about). explains why these safety rules are enforced. Do not be afraid to ask him any questions you may have. This place is great. I went up there last Wed. It got kinda busy but that is the best part, you get to see all the kickass guns other people have. You can shoot from 25-200 yards and it is a hot/cold range. Safety is very important to the staff if you are standing one inch behind where they want you they will say something but in a polite way. They are constantly giving tips to the shooters and you can hear the reactions from the people 10 min later bragging to their friends about how the range guy helped him out. It is a really nice drive once you get off the 15, only about 11 miles to the range from the freeway. They have an archery range and they are kid/family friendly. There is also a campground halfway down the mountain called Applewhite. That is where my next camping trip is going to be, 10 min from this place! read more

The only reason anyone should come here is if any other range within 100 miles is closed, and you can't wait to go shooting. I've been shooting over the past 6 years and have never had a good experience. The entry fee is ridiculous, their target fees are ridiculous, and don't bother with with their overpriced, poor selection of ammunition. If you feel like you can look pass that, the staff will surely keep you away. I am very comfortable around firearms and as safe with them as humanly possible. The staff will treat you like a novice, talk to you like a child and have little to no knowledge of firearms. Each gives off a feeling that they are scared of firearms. Nearly every time I've gone, a range "master" will walk by and tell me they would like to inspect my rifle/pistol, then ask if they can shoot it. They get real upset if you tell them to kick rocks and not to ask a stupid question like that again. If for whatever reason you are on the staffs "hit list" they will hound you and hover over you your entire time on the range. I've been threatened to be kicked off the range plenty of times, for things as simple as having a screwdriver to calibrate a scope on my table. Save your money and use it on a professional, hopefully friendly range, dont give it to these thieves'. read more

The employees that work on the range have the absolute worst attitudes out of any range I've ever been to. The older white dude, the range master has a nasty attitude and is condescending. Same goes for the darker Hispanic guy with the hat and camelbak. I literally stopped for like 3 seconds to see what target my brother was putting up after I put mine up. I know its the rules to not stand near firing line when cease fire is active, but I literally just turned around to look for 3 seconds max and then went to car. That douche comes over and starts blabbering about some crap and I couldn't hear him because I had my ear muffs on. He then keeps on blabbering so I take off my muffs and he said he should kick me out because I was being unsafe. I told him "OK. Do what you have to do" because I really didn't give a crap if I got kicked out by that time. But he didn't do sh*t, he's just a wanna be tough guy that wouldn't dare have that attitude off range. A minute later he's on his loudspeaker doing the routine "make sure you are off the range, firing will commence" line but his speaker wasn't working properly so you couldn't understand what he was saying, let alone someone down range. Range master asked if it was all clear and camelbak douche said yeah, and I was like wow. He really wasn't sure if the range was clear because visibility was super low that day and no one could hear him if there indeed was someone down range. VERY dangerous what he did, but a minute before he was yapping about me standing in one spot for 3 seconds. Don't go to this range. Full of obnoxious employees. Read the other reviews, I'm not the only one who has encountered this. read more

Use to go to this range a lot, haven't been there in year. Very disappointed... Under new management, tons of rules. If your law enforcement don't waste your time going there. Tried calling a week before we went there to set up a private range for 7 people, 4 of which are officers, and forget about it... Whom ever Rich is, he wont be bothered setting up private shoots for law enforcement. After the third call and three messages I gave up. By the way for any fellow officers planning to go to Lytle Creek, they want all kinds of paperwork to shoot your guns, who carriers there department paperwork or a DOJ form around with them??? They don't tell you this until you get there. Anyhow after the range police/ range staff gave us real law enforcement a hard time about our guns we finally got to shoot... WOW! rule after rule... I don't mind range safety in fact I welcome it, but this was a pain to have the range police/range staff all over us all day. We wont ever be going to Lytle Creek ever again and will be passing the word... read more

We had a great time. Got there around 9:30 AM on Sunday in late August and the shaded sites were taken, but we had hats, sun screen, lots of cold water. The four of us had plenty of non shaded sites to choose from. Three of us have real jobs and the fourth guy is an air conditioning tech. He says he does more than the three of us put together. The range masters were all very cool and patient with us when we made out minor blunders, like standing near the gun tables during dead time. No we did not fire two thousand rounds each, but had a great time with our 9, 22, 30-06, 40, 357, 50, and various shotguns. My rabid wild boar target did not make through the first round. A couple long guns were sighted in, and fun was had by all. The place filled up around 10:30 AM and was only half filled when 12:30 PM rolled around. We never had any doubt we would walk out alive, unlike past years at the "old Lytle Creek: War Zone when we use to really wonder if it was a good idea to be there. Well, we were young then, and not too smart. It is now a great place to spend some time with your gun{s}, and all for $14.00. CHEAP! read more
