Remember the old Lytle Creek that use to be a shoot em up, careless shooting area many years ago. You didn't dare fly over this area with a helicopter or plane....unless you were nuts. Your aircraft would literaly be shot at...it was a war zone type area...with drunks having guns and rifles..and they pretty much shot at anything that moved.. But as time passed, it was necessary to regulate this area, and now, you have to drive a few more miles in and turn into a dirt parking lot on the right. They have (must have) range masters that keep a close eye on you and this is the way it should be....considering the way it was... Now....It's very enjoyable... read more

Went there to shoot with my nephews, the staff was very friendly. The prices were kind of, well extremely pricey if my nephew paid over $186 for 7 people and a couple of ding dats like ear protection, eye protection, some yellow tags to show the breech is open...really! $1 a piece woow. The targets $6 well anyways shelling out that much money not my likings. I go to Dave's Indoor range at $20 a booth, free eye and ear protection and believe me its much nicer than having to stop shooting every half hour to go and put your targets up, at Dave's push a button it comes to you. Well overall if you just love spending all that money on a wrist band to shoot, well be my guess, otherwise try indoor ranges, more private and time is enjoyed better. read more

Not a bad little outdoor range, and a nice alternative to driving out to the desert for a bit of target shooting. A big (and welcome) departure from the "wild west" approach that characterized shooting in the Lytle Creek area a couple of decades ago. The staff was helpful and friendly. Range Master Gene was careful to ensue safety procedures were enforced, but was also quick to share a joke or comical observation. His affable and approachable demeanor was greatly appreciated. He seemed to be especially good with some of the young shooters there, checking to make sure they understood gun safety and were having a good time. (I've been to other ranges where the "D.I."-style, verbally abusive range staff seemed to actually create an unsafe atmosphere, because many shooters were too intimidated to ask a question or seek help. Don't get me wrong - safety is a priority because guns are not toys, but I've seen some places where the range crew appeared to look for reasons to bark or belittle people.) In terms of travel, I anticipated a much rougher and bumpier drive, but you actually reach the range before pavement turns into dirt road (or maybe the old road is fully paved now - haven't been out that way for years). Glad I gave this place a try; I'll be back again, for sure! read more

This place went from ok to bad. Here is why. -price went from $16 to $20 now. They dont spend any money on the place. Shooting tables are uneven and full of splinters. - their steel targets are barely standing or they are just laying on the ground. No up keep on their steel targets. - if you run into GENE the range officer. He is by far the worst person working at that place enough to where myself, father, and people around me said they will never come back because of him and his rudeness and antics. -its cash only no atm debit cards -no sinks to wash the lead off of your hands. - no brass catchers at tables brass flys everywhere and then you have to pick up yours and the people next to you. - they have up to 300 yards but its never open only up to 200 yards. -again GENE drives customers away hes annoying rude and keeps talking about how he loves weed smoke. Price for adults is 16$ and children is $8 which isn't too bad. It's best to come early before place gets crowded. "If you purchase a gun bring the receipt & you will get a $4 discount. One receipt per person and has to be within the first 60 days" Both shotgun and rifle area are clean. Usually don't see too many people in the shotgun area, most are shooting rifles and handguns. When shooting handguns, make sure your muzzle is out of the canopy or you will be told. You have been warned. Rangers can be mean so learn all rules about guns before coming here. Oh! And try to wear long sleeves and long pants, because once those bullets shell hit you... It'll burn like hell. You can only leave when they call a cease fire, don't leave while it is still hot, they will hate you. read more

Normally this is a great range with plenty of space and organization. Today, it was anarchy. 20 minutes waiting to just drive in. I was asked to park then register, which I did then got back in the car to drive into my lane. I was told to park again and the RSO allowed about 4 cars ahead of me that arrived after I arrived. They got larger range tables whereas I got a half table for my long range rifle. The RSO wouldn't let me in until I got a wristband which I already was wearing and could've been let in ahead of these cars. Finally I get to my bay and normally you can tuck your targets into a slit in the ground but apparently if you're put onto the other ranges you have to dig a hole for your target posts. Good luck digging in solid rock and clay remnants. Then once you have your target in and get to your table it'll just blow over in a mild wind. Great planning all around. I needed to sight in my rifle for a hunt but after digging and battling the wind as it kept knocking my target over I realized, this range only cares about volume not quality. I'll spend more money and drive all the way to Hodge Road then waste anymore time or money here. They don't care if you need to sight your rifle. They don't care if you've been coming to the range. They just want your money. Why else would they put long range shooters right next to pistol and shotgun shooters when they have separate pistol and shotgun ranges? Volume volume volume. No quality. Worst range day ever and a waste of time and money. This range is for fudds and fudds love it. If you're smart you'll go elsewhere. read more

The shooting range is a great facility. Yeah, some stuff needs attention, but why do you think the range fees are so price friendly. Personally, I drive from Newport Beach to go there. It's a freaking great range, a true a hidden gem. Range officers are professionals and willing to work with you and your family if a question arises. When people complain about certain range officers, the people complaining must understand whats at stake for the range and the R.O.'s. If anything safety related occurs, the range and the range officer most likely will have some explaining to do. Also, even though the range is privately owned, they still have to adhere to the forestry rules that are set forth. And as for Gene...Gene is a hidden rarity....You rarely come across someone like him who's willing to talk about their military experience...Or who's willing to assist with marksmanship questions or free lessons. If everyone took the time to just listen, the man knows firearms and most definitely, he knows how to shoot. On a personal note, the man has helped me with my marksmanship. For that I will always remain appreciative. Besides, his jokes are pretty funny. Secondly, I had a minor issue with a range officer there, but it was totally my fault. I go to the range every week at the same time...I know not everyone can do that, but for those who can, it'll workout for you in the end...The staff will get to know you better and see that you're not a knuckle-head or some wannabe Cowboy... More importantly, they can visually observe your firearm manipulation skills. Which will put them at ease. Sometimes, its all about being repetitive. Make sure you call to see how busy the range is before u drive up. They don't let u shoot any gun that's non California complaint but u can shoot ANY type of gun: sniper shotgun assault air soft. Me and my son went here today, got there about 9:30 kind of full, several things I din't like The Seniors working the range talk to you like you'r stupid,,,yea maybe I did ask a stupid question, but not everybody is a gun expert or has been there before,,,for us was our first time,,,old timer need to get their shit together, one guy tells you one thing and they the other tells you another thing,,so they had us going/driving in circles.. they assume that you know how things work there. Pricing is flat 20 bucks per person,,,we didn't know that this place is cash only, so we had to scramble to come up with 54 bucks for 2 people and 2 targets. We usually go to L.A.S.R in Sylmar there is bigger nicer and there is some price discounts during the week, and no porta potty's, they also have vending,,,did not notice if Lytle had any vending, got hot and could of use some water bottles... And don't forget the faken mosquitos,,this place was full of them,,,good thing we had some repellent in the car from I don't know when,,but it help,,,other wise they will kick your but... One really nice and good thing,,was or is the young girl at the rental counter,,,she is on her toes and got her stuff down to the dot...(great job) for helping all the grumpy old men's like my self....but I don't thing I'll be back anytime soon. read more

We drove out to Lytle Creek Gun Range last weekend and had a great time. Katie, in the office, got us checked in and sold us a target stand, some stick-on targets, and a pair of protective eyewear. She was very friendly and helpful through the whole process. Chris, our first range safety officer was just as friendly and helpful as was Camille, his replacement. LCGR is a bit of a drive for us, coming from OC, but we know what we're getting and know that the staff will always be helpful and friendly but at the same time, keeping everyone safe. As an example, Camille noticed a stray Labrador running through the parking area right behind the shooting line and immediately called a cease fire until the dog was out of the area. I appreciate that she was that conscientious. read more

Terrible customer service. We came here to shoot and found out it was going to be an hour to shoot. We couldn't wait that long. If we waited an hour, we only would have had time for 30 minutes and we paid for an hour. We asked for a refund and decided we would come back another day. The range master remarked "these people decided they don't want to wait another hour to shoot." We had planned on coming back another day, but after rude employees and snide comments, we won't return. We also didn't get a refund. Don't waste your time or they'll steal from you too. read more

My favorite outdoor range. It's in a beautiful canyon and often when it's a little too warm in the valley, it's nice at the range. Most tables have shade covers. The staff is super friendly and you can tell they love what they do. Entry fee covers a full day of shooting. They'll let you bring a barbecue and an easy up for a fun day at the range. On your birthday they'll let you in free with ID of course. read more

I had high hopes for this range, however I left extremely disappointed. For one its a little on the pricey side but it's convenient so I wasn't going to complain. What really bothered me was the attitude of the employees there, from the people in the check in booth to the range masters. In all my experience in various gun ranges, range masters tend to be the coolest people around. Extremely helpful with weapon safety, tips on shooting, etc. The range masters here just treat you like children and talk down to you like they are the be-all-end-all of humans. Rather than simply give instructions, or remind you of the rules, they have condescending attitudes to try and make you feel stupid and make them feel better about themselves and their menial job. I've got an idea, rather than try to be a jackass when giving someone instructions, it could be helpful or beneficial to actually be nice to them. I will confidently say that I will never return to this gun range, ever. We were all so completely rubbed the wrong way by these people it was incredible. Customer service can go a long way, and so can having nice employees. Please train your staff to not treat people like idiots. read more

Of all of the places I have shot this is by far the worst range I have ever been to; let me explain a few of the top reasons not to go here: Attitude of Range Staff - When speaking to the range staff their attitude is condescending, rude, and obnoxious. About every time they speak its always begins with either "my range", "my firing ling", ect... I asked them on one occasion if I could fire my shotgun in the rifle area (since I didn't see anyone else with shotguns. The safety officers response was to curse me out while saying I was stupid and could shoot whatever I wanted. On another occasion I saw them chew a guy out over where he parked, then when the guy told him "the lady at registration said it was ok" he muttered something and went on his way. Arbitrary / Hidden Rules - I've seen they have the posted rules, and then there are rules made up on the fly. Some of the top hidden rules are no more than two weapons per person (unless you strike up a conversation with the safety officer). No high cap mags (even if you can legally possess them). Pay to Watch - Went to the range the other day to watch my friend shoot the other day and they made a 3 year old pay a "spectator fee". Really, cant cut a 3 year old a break and let him watch for free. Weapons Inspections without Knowledge - They perform a weapons inspection every 30 min or so (which isn't all bad), but when they don't have knowledge of your weapon or how the action locks to the rear they get angry. Case in point; I had a KSG and the staff didn't understand the weapon design. So instead of asking they became angry even after I explained it and showed them the followers to indicate a clear weapon and opened action. read more

went there today. i brought my father in law and young sister in law. the range masters were very helpful and extremely safe, when a cease fire is called, you stop shooting, open the action and set your gun down or you are asked to leave. it was my sister in laws first time so they gave her plenty of pointers on safety and general firing. i haven't been there in about 12 years because it used to be a warzone. its cleaned up and heavily supervised now. i was happy to see a skeet range as well as archery too. you can really shoot any CA legal firearm here. we will go back for sure. read more

This is by far one of the greatest ranges I've been. Staff are very friendly, shooters are very friendly as well. It's an awesome environment to go hang out with gun loving people and shoot some guns. The place is very organized, the RSO was on top of safety while making new shooters feel comfortable to be there. I've been to ranges where the RSO treat new shooters like trash when they should be educating them and welcoming new shooters. Especially in this anti gun state. For those complaining about them enforcing state laws, we'll they don't make the laws, and if they want to stay in business they have to abide by the law. What I like about this range is that they have up to 300yds to shoot your rifle. That's more than what any local range has by my area. Again, awesome place. I'm glad I found this range. read more

It's been 20 years since I've shot at Lytle Creek. Back ten it was the wild west with no regulation nor rules. What a pleasant surprise to drive up to a well maintained, well regulated, and very safe firing line. They have their rules to keep everyone safe and that made for a very relaxing day of shooting. Gene is the best range officer I've had at almost any range. He's a wealth of knowledge, and he shares it freely. He's great with kids, too. He'll challenge them and encourage their development as shooters. The range is well run, and protocol exists to mitigate any chances for accidents during cease fire. The front office was quick, offered just about anything you may need at reasonable prices. Staff was friendly. If you go in with a bad attitude, you're going to have a bad time. It's as simple as that. Go in, be friendly, socialize (within reason), and you'll have a blast. My only criticisms: The targets the range provides suck. But talk to Gene. He came up with a target stand you can build for under $10 that's one of the most ingenious stands I've ever seen. I'm building mine before my next range trip. Hardware cloth between each lane would stop brass from flying onto your neighbors, but retain visibility for the range officer on duty. I felt bad because I was flinging brass three or four lanes over. The poor guy next to me was probably getting a shower. read more

Been here about a dozen times since the last review. Bought the $3 frequent flyer card for easy check in ( still need to wait in line for your turn to pay but at least ya don't have to fill out the paper any mo). They recently changed out the cheesy green wooden stools with new aluminum stools, way more comfy; your butt will appreciate it. We enjoy shooting their hanging steel plates at 100 and 200 yards. Very challenging targets for your ARs or whatever high power rifle you bring. Unfortunately some have broken off already. The icing on the cake during the last visit was this group of yahoos monkeying around next to us. They got kicked out by the range staff in no less than 30 minutes after arriving. First warning went unheeded. Second warning got them the boots. Sweet. read more

Great experience at the firing line, staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Many people might not like the Periodic seize fires, mandatory chamber flags or the range safety officers but it's all in place for safety. RSO addresses any mistakes or rules broken as they see them which I can appreciate. Range: They offer a variety of distances and accommodate for long distance shooting compared to other ranges in the area. A few metal targets are already in place but cardboard targets and stakes are available for purchase. Steel ammo is welcome here as well. Overall a great family friendly environment with fair pricing I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Let me just start by saying that I've read all the reviews and I have a simple question... Who in their right mind brings their dogs to a shooting range? Do your dogs have ear protection too? Simply crazy... Now to the real review... I was in the Marines, so being on a range is nothing new to me. I've shot plenty of times in the BLM area in Perris Ca, and there is no way I'll be going back there ever again, sure Lytle creek gun range is over an hour away, but its about "SAFETY". The range officer is suppose to make sure you are being safe and not acting like an *&^&*(*. When I've shot in Perris it's like the wild west, you are changing your target and some person is still shooting... Lytle creek was awesome. I mean what is the big deal with picking up your own brass? We shot for over 2 hours and had a great time. i had targets at the 50/100 yard line (I was sighting in a new rifle). I had absolutely no problems what so ever. $16 per shooter is not bad, for what you get it's not a bad price. I will definitely be going back. read more

First and foremost: bring cash! They're a cash only range, and the closest ATM is a decent backroad drive. Trust me, I just made this mistake. Also, there's pretty much no cellular coverage out here. At least, you can't get an AT&T (inb4 ATT SUX... It's a canyon in the middle of nowhere). That said, this is a great range. I was a little worried after reading some of these reviews, but the Range Officers who were out there today (19 December 2014) were awesome. They made sure that everyone knew that it was their range, but they weren't dicks about it. Admittedly, I haven't been to a range in over 2 years, so I was a little rusty. I made a couple goofs, but they were cool about pointing it out without losing their cool. One of the dudes even made it a point to shake your hand or give you a fist pound on the way out and tell you thanks for coming. He said he'd only been there 3 months, but little things like that leave a lasting impression. Good job, new guy! A+ range guys. Now, the range itself is nothing to write home about... Which is perfect. It's a no frills, no BS outdoor range. Simple and easy.
