Checking out shops this year. The mechanic we used when we first moved here (2019) is in Austin. Need reliable, trustworthy and fairly priced services closer to home. This choice of service provider is M & B Auto Repair. I generally chose maintenance services to gage the attempted gouges many repair shops attempt to inflict. Overall safety inspection and oil change were the services requested. The 2008 Lexus RX350, had a complete check in August in anticipation of an 1100 mile trip, and headlights/high beams changed to LED for better night time visibility , so very little was needed. I had an early Wednesday appointment , so I dropped it off Tuesday afternoon. The shop called with an update right before closing Tuesday. Along with the oil change, I needed a belt replaced. Been quite a while since that was done , so I was very satisfied with the discovery. The work was completed just after noon on Wednesday. Bill was just over $200 and I'm not feeling gouged, overlooked or abused. Best way to feel after getting work done on your car. We took a family road trip at the end of May 2019 from Seattle, WA to Belton. On the last leg of our trip down, the transfer case decided to go out in our Suburban and we ended up limping into Belton. Since this was our only way home, we had limited options that didn't leave us stranded in Belton. I also didn't want to spend our entire 5 days in Belton worrying or working on our car when we were there to visit family. Rick took over and put my worry at ease. He was able to fit us in on short notice and get us up and running with a new transfer case in one day, meaning we could enjoy our visit without any stress and feel safe on the 2,200 mile journey home. Subaru repair, great service, fast and reliable. I had my older model Subaru Outback have a major repair a few months ago. Many shops do not deal with Subaru's and I did not want to take it to a Subaru dealership, which are usually expensive and they take a long time to fix big jobs. M&B in Belton Tx took care of my request and the car drove like a new car. After the warranty was up, 5 months later, I had small issue which they took care of it same day I took it. Even though the warranty ran out, they were kind enough to make an exception and not charge me, since they I had a major repair they did for me earlier in the year. We will take all our vehicles to them. They are not the cheapest in town, but the work is great and they guarantee most jobs. Give them a call if you dont have a regular mechanic. Unless you've been blessed, finding a close, honest, knowledgeable and reasonably priced mechanic is a gift. Dealerships are great, until that warranty is up. The shop has been in business since 1985 and they work on all makes and models. Easy to find...right off the freeway. My experience was great. As a young woman I worry continuously about being taken advantage of by auto mechanics. I know a little about cars, but am nowhere near a mechanic's level! So when I was half an hour from home, and my car began to shudder as my check engine light went on, I was really concerned. I went into this auto shop praying they could squeeze me in. Not only did they put my car up almost immediately, but the whole process was COMPLETELY transparent. They showed me the old part, what was wrong with it, and told me the price before they did any replacing. They even tossed in an oil change! Nicest guys ever. I had a horrible experience at a different mechanic (Jones' in Belton). That experience made me doubt and lose faith in ALL mechanics. After that, I tried a mobile mechanic....my recommendation - NEVER use a mobile mechanic unless you have no other option. Could've just been the guy I had but... Anyway, after all that I tried M & B. If I had to describe M & B in one word it would be honest. If I had two words I would say super honest. I had a problem with my car and they checked it out. They told me they believed the problem was covered by a special coverage at GM. I told them I already checked but they gave me more info. The problem was resolved free of charge by GM even though the vehicle had over 100,000 miles. It isn't often someone passes on profit to help an individual. This type of experience exemplifies the actions of a wonderful community business. My car wasn't running properly and my engine light was on. On Saturday night I scheduled an appointment for 8:00 AM on Monday morning. I was emailed at around 7:00 AM by the shop, asking when I could get my car there. I ended up checking my car in at 7:45 AM and was in and out within 5 minutes. Three hours later, I got a call saying they had my car ready for me. Keep in mind, they had an entire row of cars to work on! I was so relieved and the price was incredibly low. The owner, Rick, saved our weekend by agreeing to take a look at a widow that wouldn't raise at 5 PM on a Friday afternoon. He showed us what was wrong, explained how he was going to improvise a fix, and then let us know what we should ask for when we got the permanent repair. And he did all that for basically free. Bottom Line: I will never return and will warn all others I know to be ware of this repair shop. Their Failings: Blatant lying about needed repairs to pad their bottom line - $1500 repair not the actual $200 for parts and labor. Overtly sexist comments to my wife (women not being allowed to keep the checkbook) Disrespectful attitudes on behalf of employees. Lying about fees to confirm fault. My wife took our car in for diagnosis for a suspected failed oxygen sensor. An employee at the shop told her the diagnosis would be free (uncommon, albeit not unheard of, though the only effort required was to connect a scanner to the OBD port). My wife returned later that day only to be told "one catalytic converter had gone bad and it was causing the other to go bad, so both would have to be replaced." The car has two catalytic converts true but they are on completely separate circuits (full dual exhaust on a L6). One failing does not cause the other to do so. When my wife attempted to leave she was threatened with a lien on the vehicle if she did not pay the now $70 diagnosis fee. Upon my testing of the vehicle - the codes read as suspected - faulty oxygen sensor and not failing cat. read more

Did they fix my car? Yes. They also rummaged through my car. I'm in the process of moving to a new house, so I had a car full of my belongings. My passenger floor board was full of clothes and my back pack. There was also a bag of random stuff on my seat that had been opened. Everything was turned over and obviously someone went through it. My back pack had a bag of sour patch kids in it. Those somehow ended up on my seat. I'm glad my car works, but I feel like this isn't right. read more

So I went in to get my headlight changed on my 2006 Toyota Prius which I thought was an easy fix. One of the guys in the office came to check my car and said it'd be $150 to change the headlight since apparently you can't change a Prius's headlight without taking off the entire bumper. Honestly he didn't seem like he wanted to help me at all as soon as I stepped into the office and sounded pretty dismissive when he checked my car out. He also said it would take quite a bit of time to repair. I left to get a 2nd opinion (YouTube) and realized that you DON'T need to take off the entire bumper. It's a simple installation. I just bought a $20 light at AutoZone and had my super nice neighbor help replace it in LESS than 20 MINUTES via a YouTube tutorial! I can't believe these "professionals" were going to con me out of $150 just because they lack knowledge on different kinds of cars and assume Priuses are just too difficult to work on. I'm not sure how good a mechanic they are, but beware. For a simple check engine light they charged me 78 dollars. When I asked them if they would drop the fee if I got it fixed there they said no. Seems to me if they fix it they should drop that fee. read more

I'm really thankful for Shane and Mike. I spoke to both of them on the phone when getting a quote for my starter to be replaced. Out of 12 shops I called they we're the nicest, most understanding, and patient people. I had no idea what needed to be done and they helped out. I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of because of my lack of auto repair stuff. They had quoted me for a very fair price and worked their magic in getting my car fixed up in a timely manner. I took a truck in for some work to be done. I had an extensive list that was pricey. I found via another repair shop that some things had not been done, although I was charged for the work and parts. Plug wires and rotor cap to be explicit. I had put electrical tape on one plug wire boot, and when it started running rough in the middle of nowhere, l was surprised to say the least when a shop pulled the wires and rotor cap, and I saw the tape on a cracked boot from my prior temporary repair. Karma will take care of these crooks and one of the wormy little owners attitude. Cornerstone auto repair is an honest place, use them. read more

He filled my tires and checked them all out with such patience and fixed the problem of faulty valves. Had a bunch of things done to my car that cost around $700. Most of it just regular maintenance which included a transmission service. They had my car all day and when I picked it up, my shifter was hard to put in drive and park and also made a horrible noise when doing so. I took it back and they had to take my gear shift console apart to fix it. I was told that when doing a transmission service the mechanic had to go through all the gears and probably caused this. My issue was, why wasn't it noticed before I picked up my car. They never did get it to shift like it did originally, but they made it much better. Now forward 7 months and I am noticing some fluid on my garage floor again. I take it to a place after work that has much more accommodating hours and was told transmission fluid was leaking from the plug. When I told them that I had a transmission service done w/in the last 7 mos, they advised me to check with the place that did it; said it should still be under warranty. When I called M & B, I spoke with Rick and explained to him what the problem was; he immediately became defensive. After I read to him verbatim what the previous mechanic noted, he said that he could take a look at it, but couldn't get to it for at least 2 weeks. I also asked him if I could bring it in on a Friday afternoon around 1:30 and he told me that he lets his mechanics go home early on Fridays and that wouldn't be possible. He also said he would need me to drop it off in the morning so he could have it all day. I know it's been 7 mos, but I was at least expecting him to be a little more accommodating if nothing more than to just put it up on the rack and verify what the problem was. His attitude was very disappointing to say the least. I told him for me to drop off my car for an entire day for something the previous mechanic told me could be repaired in a couple of hours was not going to work. So I ultimately took it back to Jones Automotive in Belton and had it fixed. It cost me around $80, but I didn't have to take off work, didn't have to pay for an Uber ride, and they did it on a Saturday while I waited. Definitely won't be giving M&B anymore of my business. read more
