From the second we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. It felt less like walking into a restaurant and more like stopping by a close friend's house for breakfast. Everyone seemed truly happy to be there and happy to help. My fiancée and I both ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon and sausage, along with a side of Frank's RedHot. It was, without question, the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. The tortilla was grilled perfectly, the eggs were fluffy and packed with flavor instead of being soggy, and the bacon, sausage, crispy tater tots, and melted cheese all came together to make an incredible meal. I can't recommend M&J Cafe enough. The staff is exceptional, the food is outstanding, and on top of all that, the prices are very reasonable. It's the kind of local place you hope to find when you're traveling. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the Ashland area. read more

I love a locally owned restaurant that serves delicious food, and this place fits the bill! We've enjoyed both their breakfast and lunch offerings. We've had the breakfast bowl, loaded French toast bowl, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, beef taco salad, and chicken quesadilla. The food was all fresh and flavorful, and really good portion sizes. I loved the pancakes and French toasts. They were well cooked and soft, buttery, delicious. The biscuits and gravy were ok, but I like my gravy spicy. The taco bowl was savory and crunchy. The quesadilla was hot and fresh, packed full of toppings and flavor. Overall, this place is a great local eat! read more

I happened upon this hidden gem by doing an internet search for restaurants in Ashland Kentucky. After searching the menu for gluten free options, I was pleased to find they had several choices. there was an Asian bowl, a chicken queso bowl and several salad options that would fit the needs of any gluten free person. the hospitality, atmosphere and attentive staff made this first visit a win!!! We were greeted and hosted by the lovely Breanna! I'm a Cowboy's fan, and she gave me a little grief, but I 'm giving her 10 out of 5 stars. She is a great people person. For the meal, they have a Latte menu with all sort of flavors available (hot or cold). I had the delicious breakfast wrap with gravy with banana nut bread. My husband had biscuits & sausage gravy with a long donut chaser (dessert). I loved the quaint feel of this place. It felt warmer and more inviting than most cafes I've been in. A friend recommended this place. Yelp's description says " coffee, bar, and bakery". It is so much more! It is a nice restaurant complete with entrees, salads, soups, and sandwiches. My friend and I had chili, hers was served in a baked potato, I had a bowl with a salad. We were both pleased with our lunch, and finished with lattes. Ordered: Apple "Scone", loaded baked potato, Cesar salad, kid's Mac and cheese, footlong chili dog, and breadsticks Questionable: Apple "scone". Wasn't a scone and was very doughy. Flavor was great though Perfectly mid: the potato, the breadsticks, and the Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese is just kraft with extra shredded which to me is perfect. The potato needed maybe a full salt shaker of salt and extra sour cream, but everything else about it was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. The breadsticks were just good but nothing to write home about. Would come back for this: footlong chili cheese dog. The hotdog was genuinely really good. Perfect amount of juice and flavor, and paired with the chili and mustard was peak. However, I do not think I could finish it by myself and did split it with a friend. I met a friend at M&J Cafe on a Monday after work. It was located on the first floor of a high-rise office building. What a cute spot! I loved the decor. The wooden bar was gorgeous and the Christmas decorations were beautiful. We started off with a margarita, queso, salsa and chips. And for dinner, I ordered a steak and cheese and my friend ordered chicken salad on a croissant that was served with pasta salad. We split our sandwiches so we could sample each. My steak and cheese was delicious! I loved the added banana peppers which gave it a nice zing. The steak was moist and tender and the bun was toasted. My friend's chicken salad was also yummy. And the pasta salad was out of this world. We ended with dessert. I ordered the tiramisu. It was light and velvety but not overly sweet. The service was friendly. Since it was my first time I asked for the top sellers and the steak and cheese was on the list. Now I know why. Next time I'm in town I will definitely stop in to try some more menu items. read more

This is a new brick & mortar business that was formally a food truck. My first time here I had stopped in to kill a few minutes before an appointment. I had coffee and a desert, the coffee was really good and for desert I had tiramisu which was outstanding! They have a full menu (see posted pics). The dining area was clean, neat and bright with plenty of tables. The service and prices were great. I definitely will be back here, if you are close by you should definitely give them a try!!! read more

Really impressed with the food, service and friendliness. I met the owner "& J" and she was great. She noticed it was my first visit and asking me how I found out about the place. I had the breakfast tacos, which were very good. A definite hidden gem. I'm moving back to the area and will definitely make M&J a favorite. read more

Start with the good - staff is very friendly. Inviting ambiance, cozy little place. Can get coffee, beer, cocktails. All a plus. Not so good - the food we ordered. Very average, nothing unique. The ham and turkey on my sandwich tastes like it came from a $3.99 pack of lunch meat from Walmart. The beef taco salad tastes like very basic. Salsa very bland too. For $6 our son was served a small bowl of basic Kraft Mac and cheese and a small bowl of some apple sauce. We noticed the charges on the bill were more than the menu prices advertised. Brought it up to staff and they adjusted it, stating it was a cpu error. Again, very friendly staff and the place looks nice, should be a good occasional lunch spot if you're a local. We were visiting from out of town like we were, so next time we will probably look elsewhere. read more

I waited before writing this review because I want to support local businesses. My Yelp profile is incorrect; I am local. First, service was efficient and friendly. The space is welcoming. I had only one menu selection. It was not good, can be better made at home and by many nearby restaurants. There are few choices for folks who don't eat meat. Go elsewhere if you or friends are meatless. I was told my breakfast tacos could be made with potatoes. Tater tots are not potatoes. These were greasy and while some may consider them "fun," they are children's finger food. Sour cream and salsa were served in small plastic cups with lids. That should be reserved for to go orders. Scrambled eggs inside were rubbery and watery. I am guessing it was the owner who came to my table to ask how things were. I answered fine and paid my bill. I left with three-quarters of my order uneaten, preferring not to finish it. Maybe other items are better prepared, but this seems like style over substance. In short, Waffle House is better. read more
