One of the only sit down places in town. The smoked wings are good but the deep fried ones had a tough,chewy skin to them. The deep fried banana peppers were delicious and the deep fried stuffed mushrooms were something genre and very tasty. The place is large and can handle large parties. The food was really good, but the service was very slow and impersonal. BBQ was excellent, sides were delicious too, and the BBQ sauce at the table was good. They have letters on the top but without an explanation we just had to try them all to see what they were. "G" was on the NC Style, "OG" was we maybe original. The plates were very well loaded up, but the waitress put them on the opposite side of the table and not near us, she did tell us to just slide them around. The decor was awesome, seats were comfy. As we left, no one at the hostess booth said anything, but a "See you next time" or "Thank you, have a great day" would have gone a long way. The Hogs Trough is a great place to grab, dinner and if you drink they have a huge selection of beer and wine, I don't drink so I I tell you much about that The food there is awesome, hamburgers and fries are great but they are better known for their BBQ items such as ribs, pulled pork, wings. They are quite busy in the evenings that they are open mainly Friday and Saturday nights. read more

Stopped by for the first time & ordered a meal to go. Our food came out quickly (less than 7 minutes). We got pulled pork & brisket with house made mild BBQ sauce & Carolina gold BBQ sauce. Both sauces were very good. We received generous servings of the pork & brisket and they were tasty. Our sides of baked beans, potato salad & green beans were meh. This place has a very specific ambiance. The windows have mirror tint on them, so they're clearly going for the 'always drinking time' theme. Other than that immediate reaction, there's a particular smell. I can't place it. It's like a mix between soured laundry and probably the barbecue sauce. You don't notice it after a while. I got the brisket burger, which I was told was a ground mix of brisket and hamburger, smoked for an hour. I expect they toss it back on the grill for just a few minutes to get some heat into it when ordered, because it arrived about 5 minutes after I ordered. The burger was lukewarm. If it was fresh, I think it would have been really good. It wasn't bad, but without the barbecue sauce, I think it would have been bland. It was swimming in mayo, so maybe ask for that on the side. The fries looked crispy, but were right on the edge. Better than most McDonald's at least. I smothered mine in sauce as well, and it turned out pretty tasty. The menu shows Pepsi, but they have Coke. Thanks be to the pop gods. I'm giving it a 4 because I know if my burger was fresh and the fries slightly crispier, it would have deserved that. read more

Let me talk to ya, Grayson! Me and the homie Billy we get through here very frequently and we stop and we live the service and we love the sauces. All the sauces are the Cat's Pajamas, ya heard. There ain't much in Grayson other than sauces and Freeway Football but when you at the Trough, brother, don't look down at the homie next to you, just stay focused on the task at hand: the chicken is delightful. The dining area is large and has a separate bar area so it is family friendly, it is always seems clean and organized. I recommend this restaurant for so many reasons. To start with, the barbecue is excellent. We walked over looking for a warm meal. Met a nice man at the bar. Didn't know he was the owner. I have never had better ribs in my life. I've been to Kansas City, Texas and elsewhere. This place has the best BBQ and the ribs were something I will never forget. The owner and his family are very special friends. They discovered that we were stranded in their town with a broken down vehicle. They made a few calls and then told me that they were going to fix my truck, so we could be on our way. It was a weekend and I had a job in Florida to get to. They showed us hospitality and friendship and they didn't even really know us. We will never forget the kindness and generosity. And those ribs. OMG. Get the ribs. read more

They have 3 sauces to choose from (homemade) & they all tasted great. Really good fries. I also tried their bacon Mac & cheese. The portion was small, but it was really good. Great atmosphere .... live music on certain evenings & a wood burning stove in the main dining area. I'll definitely be back! The negative: Only open Thur-Sun. Had a really great time at this place. Staff and service was excellent. Took 6-yr and 3-yr old and very family friendly. Live music, but super chill vibe. Kids got up and danced to the music. Food was pretty good. I didn't really like the cheese on the brisket cheeseburger, but that's probably being a little picky. Pulled pork and kids mini corn dogs were good. But I wanted to write a good review mostly for the staff. They were super nice to us. Outside of the building looks a little intimidating, but it's very nice inside.
