This was my second--and last--time visiting this location in Teays Valley, West Virginia. On my first visit, when we entered, the wait staff immediately asked my companion, "What can I do for you?" My companion, who is white, was confused by the question because it's not typically asked of privileged folks. I quickly realized that my presence as a Black woman in an all-white restaurant was the likely reason for the unusual and uncomfortable treatment. We were then seated in the very back of the restaurant, past the main dining area and into the bar section. I understand seating can depend on waiter availability, but as a Black person in America, I am all too familiar with being placed in the "back" and decided to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. After all, I love the Ashland, Kentucky location. Unfortunately, on this second visit, I was once again seated in the back--this time at least in the dining area. The experience did not improve. Unlike my first visit, where the food was at least hot and flavorful, this time the food was the worst I've had from this chain, both in taste and temperature. If you are Black, I strongly suggest avoiding this location. The treatment and quality here do not compare to the Ashland, Kentucky restaurant and left me deeply disappointed. read more

I'm in Ashland, KY for work. I was told that I had to eat at Fat Pattys. I went on Thursday June 23rd. I was seated immediately. It was 630pm and the place was mostly full. It was loud. There was a juke box playing requested hits. The place was clean. The waitress was quick to take my order. I ordered the burger (Clint's Original Burger), tater tots, n a Diet Pepsi. My food came quick! Like in less then 10 minutes. The burger bun was dry but tasted good. The tater tots were, well.... Tater tots. The total cost of my meal was $13.75 plus tip. Final thoughts- honestly, if I lived here I wouldn't be a frequent customer to Fat Patty's. Started with a caesar salad (*) with grilled salmon (***). There was way too much dressing on the salad. So the salad was drowned out with the dressing. Even the salmon couldn't save it. The fried mushrooms and popcorn shrimp were both TOO SALTY. Felt like the classic move done in many bars and grills when they want you to keep ordering drinks. I attended a graduation dinner at Fat Party's last week. This was my second time eating at this location. There were about 20 of us, so a pretty large group. Skyler was our server with some help from her manager. She kept the drinks flowing and got our orders right which was impressive for such a large group! Even when her computer went down she was able to get our checks right too. My Bayou Burger was great! And I loved the onion rings. The burger was juicy and the toppings were a great addition. The only thing I thought was odd for a burger spot was that I couldn't order my burger the way I like it, which is medium. I was told they cook all the burgers the same. But this will not stop me from going back. I can't say enough about the exceptional service we received from Skyler! Which was so much appriciated during this special celebration. read more

My husband just ended up going to the bar to order water, told the bartender we have't been greeted yet or met a server and she apologized. He comes back to sit and we wait another 10 minutes and still no server. My husband then goes to the Bar to order our meal where the bartender took the order for us. No tip should be given if we are doing the work at a sit down restaurant. I will not waste my $$ here again since the prices are high for Self Serve! read more

Came here as a friends last meal before he moves away. Luckily it was happy hour so you get half off a list of appetizers. So our tickets could be cheap. The food has no quality anymore. I remember when it opened and the food was hot and fresh. I ordered cheese sticks and black bean soup because of the memories I have associated with how deluxe their black bean soup is. The soup was cold and they didn't bring me a tortilla until I asked and she said they burnt it. They use cheese on top instead of a dollop of sour cream which was gross because the soup wasn't hot enough the melt it. This is a quirky local place for Marshall students and a lot of fun. I may not be able to ever return, though it was definitely worth the trip! Came here to interview at Marshall SOM and heard from a friend of a friend that this was a great place to try. While parking was a bit tricky (there are spaces out front, though they fill up fast and the adjacent parking lots are a bit unclear about who can park there), we found a space and headed inside on a busy Friday night. Despite the fullness of the place and the number of people in front of us, we really didn't have to wait long at all until we were seated. Our server came over and greeted us promptly. He was pleasant, and surprisingly easy to hear despite the noise level of the place (guess you develop strong vocal cords after a while!). We opted for the pretzels, which turned out to be just about the best appetizer I have ever had anywhere: they are perfectly buttered and salted, and are more pretzel loafs than your classic double-loop pretzels. Our entrees were similarly excellent, and we tried not to think about the sheer number of calories we just consumed. While some of the other patrons were rambunctious (there was a heated argument happening between a drunk girl and a guy at a nearby table) and the atmosphere is definitely loud, it's kind of part of the experience, or at least in the way that I define the place. I would highly recommend this place to out-of-towners looking for a bite to eat, so long as you don't mind the college vibe or the workout you'll need to burn this food off. Overall: 4.5 stars ------------- Pros: - Food is DELICIOUS, and you have to try the pretzels, no question. - Service is good and the staff here really do their best. - Ambiance is fun and lively. Me and my wife went in to eat she got the steak that wasn't seasoned and tasted old and like blood. Told the waitress and she took it back and got her another it was the same as the first. So she decide to just eat the sides instead. The waitress was cool though because she didn't charge us for the meal. That's the only problem I've had with the foods taste. I have had delivery from there before and they always forget things you paid for. Not a bad place just stay away from the steak. The service was terrible I ended up waiting over an hour and a half just for a burger and nachos they sent me in the back room where they were still cleaning or they had just finished cleaning either way it was a mess I ended up working for work and I was overdue for my lunch break I tried to explain to the worker of how sensitive my timeline is and they just kept saying five more minutes I saw at least seven different customers leave and say that the place was not worth this long of a wait then when I finally did get my food it was not fresh at all the burger looked old the bun was stale my nachos looked like they sat in the cold for a good twenty minutes I understand that some places do get busy but that service was just ridiculous I will not return to that place and I do not recommend this place read more

However since then, it has been on a steep decline, with each visit being worse than the one before. Food seems to be of a lower quality than before while the price goes up. Wait staff is very hit or miss with "good ones and bad ones". I could easily go with less than 3 stars but I want to have faith they can turn it around still. After waiting 45 minutes for our order, we ended up throwing everything away. The chips and queso were extremely salty, both sweet potato fries and bacon cheese fries were on the verge of uncooked and mushy, and both burgers were dry and burnt to a crisp on the bottom. So I don't know how this place has a 4 star review. Reading the reviews about "best burger" my buddy ordered one, and pretty much put it under the category of a soy burger. Sheetz has better burgers. I ordered a buffalo chicken salad for some reason I don't know why and that was terrible as well. The ratio of cheese to salad was 80/20, Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. We ordered pulled pork nachos and they were your typical bar food, good enough but nothing that makes you say I have to come back to get those! And finally they somehow managed to fuck up the beer. Bud light was flat and luke warm, and a Guinness tasted pretty damn flat/expired. I always finish my beer but not this time apparently. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was for fast service.
