After having a taste for comfort food, I got a take out Veggie Plate from M & M's Soul Food Restaurant that included Collard Greens, Green Beans with Potatoes, two Cornbread Muffins & Cornbread Dressing. It was so tasty and it satisfied my craving for comfort food. The customer service is good. Although I never have, there is indoor dining available. They have lots of specials throughout the week. There is a parking lot available as well. I recommend this restaurant. P.S. this is not a Vegan Restaurant. There are plenty meats available .

M & M Soul Food is worth the 2 hour drive that it took for my family and I to get here. It's a small restaurant in Carson, but they're BIG on flavor. Their staff is wonderful and attentive. I ordered the meatloaf initially, but then I had to switch it to the smothered steak because the meatloaf wasn't ready yet. It was a little disappointing, but I wasn't tripping out because their entire menu is delicious. The smothered steak was tender and savory. For my sides, I got the candied yams, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. All of these were very good. I'm not gonna lie though, I picked off of my brother's plate too. He got the corn and green beans. The sweetest corn I've ever tasted and the best green beans I've ever had. BRB while I check my calendar for my next drive down here.

My husband it's very disappointed with the service and food to say the least. Radio the smothered chicken tasted like it was old reheated and smoothed with a lot of gravy over it. The dressing was bland. And our waitress said to us that we wouldn't like the mac and cheese because we are black. She shared she tried it and threw it in the garbage. Who says this to customers, WOW! Sadly, all of the cooks were Hispanic, will NOT BE RETURNING...

    Oxtails Entree

I had a craving for some oxtails. Came to the OG soul food spot. I was not disappointed. The oxtails were falling off the bone tender. Greens and dressing was on point. I need to go back to my 90's when I came at least once a week

'm a very loyal M&M's customer as I've been going since I can remember as it's a comfort restaurant with so many great options. From the fried chicken, to the waffles, to the oxtails and short ribs, and the yams, the food is always consistent and they provide great portions and taste. Often times though, the service can be spotty as attitudes aren't always pleasant and items that we paid for are missing from the order which can make it a bit annoying to deal with despite the quality of food. But regardless lol, it's definitely my favorite soul food restaurant in LA despite everyone stating LA doesn't have good soul food.

I tried their Black Eyed peas & Rice and Potato Salad last week and was blown away. This week I added the Oxtails. TENDER! Fresh & Delicious food that tastes like they care. Support them.

Burned Salmon Croquettes and biscuits from M & M of 09/04/2025 breakfast that taste like the only seasoning that was used was garlic powder
    Donna P.

09/04/2025 Just received order of Salmon Croquettes breakfast, and I can't really enjoy it. As it was over powerfully seasoned wi garlic powder also burnt. I order quite often and enjoy the meatloaf in gravy immensely. I almost phoned them to tell them to please watch the seasoning and the fire, which are the to main components to cooking. They almost burnt the biscuits but they caught that just in time. I will never order Salmon Croquettes again.

Large portions! You will need a carryout!

    Ask the Community - M & M Soul Food

    Is there indoor dining?

    Yes

Do they just put m&m's in everything?

No I think it's the name of the founders

So do they have vegan or vegetarian options & which ones are that? Or may I ask what's the veggie plate?

I believe their veggie plate is an assortment of their veggie side dishes such as collard greens, Mac and cheese, rice and beans, cornbread, stuffing/dressing, steamed cabbage, etc. However I doubt that these are vegan. Nevertheless they are… Read more

Food was expensive and overpriced. The staff was cleaning the restaurant floor around us, (…read moresweeping and mopping the floor....) The restaurant was not due to close for another hour and a half. The food was good.

It's the "HistoriONICS" of it all!…read more "The suffix "-onics" isn't a standard English suffix but often appears as a blend or extension of "-ic" (meaning "pertaining to") with an "n" interfix, forming terms related to systems, sciences, or specific fields like electronics, bionics, tectonics, or iconics, essentially meaning "the study/field of" or "relating to" specific concepts, often in plural or technical contexts." My mother and I have been passing by this place for years while going to our local Target to retrieve meds from the CVS inside. It's always a "We got to try them!" With a severe decrease of Soul Food spots in LBC, when we find one we are thankful. Thankful that we're still alive, sane, able to find the food that represents US. Erasure is real but we know we're a people that keep multiplying. Whether it's out of being too stubborn to give up or the enjoyment of pissing people off, we can't be stopped. You will wait. We walked in and a beautiful seasoned lady, someone's momma, auntie, and/or nana was quietly looking on her cell phone and then looked up at us and greeted us with such a beautiful smile! I was immediately made whole as the love in her smile put the grief I walk around with daily for my own nana, grandmother, and Godmother went null and void, filling me up with a rush of all their love pour over me. We're all family and if you're open, still, and quiet you'll see all of us in each other. Were look at the menu and the selection of food was wide and I wanted everything! But mindful of my pocketbook and the moderate prices, we chose the greats! Chicken wing dings, additional sides of yams, green beans, a slice of chocolate cake and lemon cake. Because more memories continued to flood my mind we chose some "mini dinners" as well. The ambiance was of those after church days and ya mom decides "let's eat here" and as soon as you see the mural of the spread of Soul Food on the wall you immediately ecstatically answer "OHH YES!" Mother said chose the oxtail dinner with greens and I got the smother pork chop plate with mac and cheese. I of course have my mother the "you know we sharing, right?" She reluctantly agreed and we giggled. At the time we were the only customers so waiting was alright with us because NOTHING GOOD COMES QUICK. That is thing about GOOD soul food. You will wait and you should WANT to wait. The love, passion, and blessings pour into the handling the food to HEAL you is not meant to be RUSHED. Having everything you want right now is NOT what you NEED. And the Mama, Auntie, and/or Nana already knows this about you, and gots exactly what you need for your soul. When our food was so securely wrapped for the drive home and given to us, the family member who brought it to us apologized for the wait but we emphatically said "Not a problem at all!" We knew it was going to be good and didn't want the impression of impatience leaving a disgruntled stench in the air. We were blessed by the experience and couldn't WAIT to get home and be healed. That's exactly what happened. The good healed my soul and my mother's soul was healed too. All the memories, stories of missing family members, and road trips, and church jokes, and grannies cussing, and the deep-dive into the "Histrionics" of it all rained down on us and we we're GOOD. The evening, sleeping that night, and waking up this morning feeling so blessed has made me whole and I am thankful for US. The food was so good I would consider "slapping my mama" but I've made it 45 years on this earth without truly losing my mind. But the thought is fleeting and still wouldn't be sufficient enough reaction to how good the service, storefront modesty, and delicious joy the food gave me. I'm a big FAN! FOR REAL. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

Alright, it took me a second to gather my thoughts, but here it is…read more I came to Soul Food Shack with my expectations set squarely on the food. I was only in Cali for a short while, and this spot happened to be about 15 min down the street from where I was staying. Perfect location, and I was curious to see how Cali does soul food. From the first bite, it hit me Emotionally triggered as I was transported straight back to my childhood. It felt like I was sitting at the kitchen table in New Orleans, eating my nanny's candied yams, greens, macaroni, and fried chicken. The flavors had that deep, home-cooked love, that is not taken for granted or lost on me, so hats off to the cook! That kind of food doesn't just fill you up; it connects you,and to top it off, the drinks? Man, they serve that real deal kol-aid. The kind I used to drink as a kid. As I was eating, I started thinking about how food ties us to previous & future generations. It's wild how dishes once considered scraps i.e: greens, yams, cornbread, oxtails, are now sought out in restaurants just like this one. These meals are more than just food; they're stories of survival, resilience, and community. But I digress, I know y'all didn't come here for a history lesson in Black culture, so I'll leave it at that. Now, onto the standouts. The mac and cheese and yams? Easily the stars of the plate. I like my yams runny and solid, because I love mixing it with the cornbread. Sweet, savory, soft--that combo hits every time. The macaroni? Seasoned perfectly. Creamy, rich, and not bland like you sometimes get at other spots . That's rare, and I don't take it for granted. Overall, Soul Food Shack gave me more than just a good meal, it gave me a taste of home, miles away from where I grew up. If you're ever in Inglewood and need some food that feeds more than just your stomach, pull up, tap in, eat up.

If you're looking for a casual place to grab a drink and share a few appetizers with friends, this is a solid choice. We ordered the fried pickles and the Nashville hot nuggets from the happy hour menu. Let's start with the fried pickles--they were crispy, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the dipping sauces. They had a satisfying crunch without feeling overly greasy. Now, those Nashville hot nuggets... they were the star of the table! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tossed in just the right amount of heat. They came served over fries with pickles and dipping sauces, making them perfect for sharing (or not ). We went on this past Friday night May 8th. I waited to post this, but since our visit the disappointment grew. We ordered the beef rib meal and three sides of the jalapeno sausages. EVERYTHING WAS OVERCOOKED. Everything was dry, we got there at 5 pm on a Friday night, so it was early and on what will have been a busy night so there should have been enough fresh meat ready and available. It all was clear that it had been sitting for quite sometime in whatever warmer they sit in until an order comes up. USE TO LOVE going here, good beers on draft, good food. When it is good, it is very good. BUT it has been too many times of disappointment. I think I am done with Lucille's. IT JUST COSTS TOO MUCH TO DINE THERE AND WALK AWAY DISAPPOINTED AND FEELING THE WAY WE DID. I am regretting not saying anything at the time, Able was so nice, I was enjoying my good draft beer and the company of my beautiful wife and so did not want to lower the mood, but when we got in the car, we both agreed that was not worth it.
