I don't leave many reviews, but when the service is either really good or really bad, I make an exception. My family and I came to M&M's Soul Food Restaurant after a funeral service on Tuesday, and I can honestly say this place exceeded every expectation. Every single dish we ordered was outstanding. The short ribs, fried chicken, oxtails, catfish, collard greens, cabbage, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, yams, rice and gravy, cornbread, and even the sweet tea were absolutely delicious. It's rare to find a restaurant where everything is that good, but they pulled it off. The service was just as impressive as the food. Every person who helped us was friendly, welcoming, and had a great attitude. That's how customer service is supposed to be. We had a large group, and not one person had a single complaint--which is saying a lot! The atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and inviting. The music was great. Even though we live in the San Fernando Valley, I would absolutely make a special trip just to eat here again. And anytime I'm in the area, this will definitely be my go-to spot--even if it's just to grab some wings to go. Y'all deserve more than five stars. Today we went back to M & M to have breakfast. This family owned and operated business is the best soul food in the South Bay. I highly recommend this restaurant. Their chicken wings and grits are so delicious! Best fried chicken with crispy coating and moist and well seasoned meat. Grits are very buttery. Service is fantastic and the decor beautiful. This place is definitely a no for me. I used to come here back in the early 2000s when the food and service were solid. Over the years, however, there's been a noticeable decline. The food was never outstanding, but it used to be good enough to enjoy. Now it's just okay at best, and the experience is really overshadowed by the customer service. Unfortunately, the service is consistently poor. The waitress seemed overwhelmed, and the overall atmosphere reflected a lot of frustration and negativity, which made the visit uncomfortable. M & M Soul Food is worth the 2 hour drive that it took for my family and I to get here. It's a small restaurant in Carson, but they're BIG on flavor. Their staff is wonderful and attentive. I ordered the meatloaf initially, but then I had to switch it to the smothered steak because the meatloaf wasn't ready yet. It was a little disappointing, but I wasn't tripping out because their entire menu is delicious. The smothered steak was tender and savory. For my sides, I got the candied yams, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. All of these were very good. I'm not gonna lie though, I picked off of my brother's plate too. After having a taste for comfort food, I got a take out Veggie Plate from M & M's Soul Food Restaurant that included Collard Greens, Green Beans with Potatoes, two Cornbread Muffins & Cornbread Dressing. It was so tasty and it satisfied my craving for comfort food. The customer service is good. Although I never have, there is indoor dining available. They have lots of specials throughout the week. My husband it's very disappointed with the service and food to say the least. Radio the smothered chicken tasted like it was old reheated and smoothed with a lot of gravy over it. Friday May 1, 2026 I ordered a fried red snapper dinner that included collard greens, mac n cheese and candied yams and 2 cornbread muffins. The Mac n Cheese and the yams were excellent. The balance of meal was sad to terrible. I never eaten greens that only had water, a little salt and little vinegar...THAT IS IT! And they gave me about 4 days of them. The muffins were so tiny. They really just gave me one. OMG the red snapper was fried to death with the foil full of grease. There were 6 pieces in the foil. I could only eat the middles out o2 pieces then I through out what really looked pre-fried fish. One piece was actually black on the bottom. I doctored up the left over greens, with slices of smoked ham, onions, chile pepper flakes. When heated up the left overs they had that country smoked meat mixed with onions. Only then was I able to enjoy a soul food diner. The folks that work there are very nice. Management should have checked on the food and tasted it. read more

I haven't been to an M&M in over ten years. Didn't even know they were in Carson and after today's experience I'm glad I didn't know. Inside is pretty small, cafe style. The floors were very slippery. I had to drag my feet. Customer service was terrible. Walk-in, noone greeted us just told us to sit wherever. I took my grandmother out to breakfast and the waitress kept asking if we were ready, didn't ask if we needed any recommendations, nothing. She looked irritated that we weren't ready, I'm sorry this was our first time ma'am. On to the food, the chicken was fried in old oil, the wings were hairy and huge. The pancakes looked like the frozen ones you give elementary school kids. No one enjoyed their food. It was edible. We were provided butter floating in syrup and syrup that was stabbed with a knife aka already open! I pay at the register and another lady tells me my total without providing a receipt. 'm a very loyal M&M's customer as I've been going since I can remember as it's a comfort restaurant with so many great options. From the fried chicken, to the waffles, to the oxtails and short ribs, and the yams, the food is always consistent and they provide great portions and taste. Often times though, the service can be spotty as attitudes aren't always pleasant and items that we paid for are missing from the order which can make it a bit annoying to deal with despite the quality of food. I was just in M & M, after not being acknowledged after we were seated, I got up to leave. The server than approached our table in an unfriendly manner. I attempted to order a "Breakfast s Special" which included a meat, side and bread. I asked for bacon and pancakes as my bread, before I could add the side, she insisted that each item had to be ordered as a side. I asked her what was considered bread. She said toast, biscuits or pancakes. So I said ok, so tell me again why I can't order the pancakes. She walked off to get the person in charge who in turn walked out the door to a parked vehicle. 09/04/2025 Just received order of Salmon Croquettes breakfast, and I can't really enjoy it. As it was over powerfully seasoned wi garlic powder also burnt. I order quite often and enjoy the meatloaf in gravy immensely. I almost phoned them to tell them to please watch the seasoning and the fire, which are the to main components to cooking. I recently went to M&M'S in Carson I had Short ribs (my fav) mash potatoes cabbage and yams. My food was amazing! They did not disappoint per usual! My server greeted me and sat me minutes after walking in she had a pleasant smile and was helpful with making my side selections because I couldn't decide with so many options .
