    How they package your meals.

Nothing can stop, Soul Food Renaissance! This hidden gem is located on the corner of Artesia and Cherry off the 91 freeway. It's a small yet charming establishment full of kindness, love and great food. This isn't your traditional place, this is like visiting your Big Mama and feeling at home. You seat yourself and there is only one menu that hangs on the wall. I decided to visit on a Sunday at 2:30pm with my sister and it wasn't packed at all. However, that didn't stop people from ordering ahead and coming in to pick up. This place stays cooking, and after tasting the food...I see why. The restaurant is clean, organized and welcoming. The staff is very friendly, kind and generous. Be advised, the menu has so many amazing combos and options which makes it hard to decide. Also, Sundays are dinner portions only, so don't come looking for lunchtime specials. After staring at the menu for 10min or more I finally decided to get the fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and fries as my side. My sister ordered the turkey chops with cabbage and yams as her side. My fried chicken was heaven sent. The crunch, the flavor and juiciness of the chicken had me dancing in my seat. You also get rice and gravy and the gravy had me going crazy(in a good way) I legit wanted to ask for a side of gravy just to dip my chicken in. Be aware, the gravy can be addictive. The macaroni and cheese were creamy, seasoned, and baked with love. My sis loved her turkey chops and her sides as well. This is a place where you know from One meal, that everything they cook is A1. If you're missing your grandmas cooking or need food for the soul, stop by Soul Food Renaissance for a taste that makes you whole.

2 Piece Fried Chicken, Smothered Pork Chop, Macaroni and Cheese, Rice and Gravy, Collard Greens& Cornbread
    Steven M.

The smothered pork chop was probably my favorite in terms of flavor, but everything else was delicious as well. The pork chop and fried chicken are savory, the collard greens are salty, macaroni cheesey, the rice with gravy has a mild spicy heat and the cornbread is sweet - so the combination of it all works well together because of the variety of flavors. The staff working there were also friendly and nice. The main reason the review got 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is a little pricey for the portion of food, the parking lot is also small and there wasn't air conditioning. They did, however, have a large fan blowing and provided us a pitcher of ice water... which helped out alot. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant, but I would imagine people probably take food to-go partially due to those reasons. If you are extra hungry, I might recommend maybe going for the hungry man portions. Our mini dinners, however, were sufficiently filling without any leftovers.

Have they reopened the dine in part of the restaurant, or is still only take out?

Yes as far as I know. It was closed when I went for an upcoming events.

I went to Soul Food restaurant back in 2005 across the street from Jessie Owen's park and a Mc Donald's. The food was amazing but I cant remember the name . Is this the same place?

You may be talking about Berthas but they're closed. Don't know how long.…

Howz the food now? I love fried cat fish can't find a good place to get it.

Our cat fish is really good, you should come on in and give it a try. Just tell the person at the desk how you like your fish fried and they will take care of you!

The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly and attentive, but unfortunately, for the most part, the food fell flat. I originally wanted to try the shrimp po'boy, but I asked if I could have regular mayonnaise instead of the garlic mayo they serve with it. I was surprised when I was told they didn't have plain mayo, so I decided to go with something else. I ordered the fried okra ($11.90), which I didn't enjoy. It was very heavily breaded and overcooked. We also tried the fried chicken ($18.95) with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes, and unfortunately the chicken was another miss for me. My guest did enjoy the steak salad ($17.95) with grilled tri-tip, so that was better received. One definite standout was the complimentary cornbread they brought to the table. It was excellent and easily my favorite thing I tried. Our subtotal was $50.75, with $5.32 tax, bringing the total to $56.07 before tip. I'm sure Georgia's has plenty of loyal customers, as it has been around for a while, and the clean restaurant and attentive service were positives. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't to my taste, and based on this visit, I don't see myself returning.

After waiting over an hour, we still only received about half of our order. About 40 minutes into the wait, I was told they were out of chicken, which meant I never received the chicken and waffles I ordered. I also never received my baked beans. I understand that restaurants can run out of items, but I wish we had been told much sooner instead of waiting that long. What makes this even more disappointing is the amount of money we spent, and as you can see from our receipt, we tipped very well. We came in wanting to support the business and have a good experience. Unfortunately, between the long wait, missing food, and the quality of what we did receive, I honestly don't feel the experience was worth the money. We were also visiting from out of town and specifically chose this place, so it was disappointing to spend such a large part of our visit waiting for food we ultimately didn't receive. I really feel that some type of refund or compensation should have been offered, especially for the items we paid for but never received. I do want to be fair and mention that they gave us complimentary water and banana pudding, which we appreciated. However, it didn't make up for waiting over an hour and not receiving our complete order. Would I come back? Maybe, but only once things are more organized and structured. I really wanted to enjoy and support this place, but this experience was just too much. For the amount of time and money we spent including leaving a generous tip I expected much better.

After a horribly disappointing experience at THROWDOWN (throw out!) where I got charged for my online order which they never bothered to fulfill, and I ended up without any food for my family on a Sunday even though they took my money... That's another story... I was so hungry for a decent soul food dinner...I thank God for the Cultured Soul! You can order online easily enough - - although, their phone ordering AI assistant system REVI was not working over the weekend. I simply went in in person, and waited about 30 minutes for my order. It was a very chill, pleasant, relaxed environment, everyone seemed happy. But the nicest thing was that the ladies taking orders also circulated around the restaurant to check in with people constantly and make sure they were cool as they waited for their orders. Now, the food: Those smothered ribs are fire! OMG, all the sides, delicious, crazy good Gouda mac & cheese, yummy mashed potatoes, and totally off the hook greens with cabbage and smoked turkey. I could eat this like every day! They do have oxtail, lots of fried chicken and fish, and a ton of other stuff, I'm just waiting to work my way down the menu! Portions were generous, you definitely could feed two people on one entrée... But I'm selfish and I want it all! Desserts also amazing... I had the caramel peach cobbler but will be coming back for the banana pudding and maybe strawberry cheesecake! I am super happy with this totally top restaurant and caterer, I will be enjoying coming back time and time for the crazy good food, wonderful friendly vibes, and... Hell it just makes me happy! Here you actually have an option to sit at some tables. Decided to snack a little before packing the rest home. The fish is freshly made to order. Seasoned very well, tartar sauce definitely complimented it. The fries were cooked fresh and decently filled to the brim of the bag. The chicken was big let down. The wing was the first piece grabbed out the bag and the temperature wasn't there. No juice, just luke warm dried meat. The second piece I grabbed was the drumstick and again temperature was off. No juice or no steam. It didn't feel like these pieces were under any heat lamps. Felt left out as each piece eaten didn't really have any residual heat. 3rd piece I grabbed was the thigh which I mistook for a breast because it was bigger in size. After positioning in eat mode I decided to pack the rest home instead because the chicken wasn't hot enough. Funny thing is after 1 hour drive my chicken breast piece had some retained heat. Little did I realize the stellar fries kept the breast warm. Shame on this place ... even KFC is enjoyable once order is secured. Their hot sauce packed in cups were good Hopefully they work on the their chicken game because it's comical that their fish outshined the chicken.
