Nothing can stop, Soul Food Renaissance! This hidden gem is located on the corner of Artesia and Cherry off the 91 freeway. It's a small yet charming establishment full of kindness, love and great food. This isn't your traditional place, this is like visiting your Big Mama and feeling at home. You seat yourself and there is only one menu that hangs on the wall. I decided to visit on a Sunday at 2:30pm with my sister and it wasn't packed at all. However, that didn't stop people from ordering ahead and coming in to pick up. This place stays cooking, and after tasting the food...I see why. The restaurant is clean, organized and welcoming. The staff is very friendly, kind and generous. Be advised, the menu has so many amazing combos and options which makes it hard to decide. Also, Sundays are dinner portions only, so don't come looking for lunchtime specials. After staring at the menu for 10min or more I finally decided to get the fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and fries as my side. My sister ordered the turkey chops with cabbage and yams as her side. My fried chicken was heaven sent. The crunch, the flavor and juiciness of the chicken had me dancing in my seat. You also get rice and gravy and the gravy had me going crazy(in a good way) I legit wanted to ask for a side of gravy just to dip my chicken in. Be aware, the gravy can be addictive. The macaroni and cheese were creamy, seasoned, and baked with love. My sis loved her turkey chops and her sides as well. This is a place where you know from One meal, that everything they cook is A1. If you're missing your grandmas cooking or need food for the soul, stop by Soul Food Renaissance for a taste that makes you whole.

2 Piece Fried Chicken, Smothered Pork Chop, Macaroni and Cheese, Rice and Gravy, Collard Greens& Cornbread

The smothered pork chop was probably my favorite in terms of flavor, but everything else was delicious as well. The pork chop and fried chicken are savory, the collard greens are salty, macaroni cheesey, the rice with gravy has a mild spicy heat and the cornbread is sweet - so the combination of it all works well together because of the variety of flavors. The staff working there were also friendly and nice. The main reason the review got 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is a little pricey for the portion of food, the parking lot is also small and there wasn't air conditioning. They did, however, have a large fan blowing and provided us a pitcher of ice water... which helped out alot. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant, but I would imagine people probably take food to-go partially due to those reasons. If you are extra hungry, I might recommend maybe going for the hungry man portions. Our mini dinners, however, were sufficiently filling without any leftovers.

This food is so delicious every single time I go. They make the best dressing ever. The food is always fresh and served with a smile. Very well seasoned and made with SOUL.

It's clear why they've been a local staple for 11 years this is the original location, and you can really taste the legacy in every dish. We learned that the menu features the favorite recipes of the owner's husband (you'll see his photo on the wall!), and there's a real sense of heart put into the cooking. Everything we ordered was served piping hot and clearly made-to-order. The Menu Highlights: Starters: The fried pickles are a must-order huge, crispy, and battered to perfection. The cornbread muffins with honey butter are a great comfort touch. Mains: My husband went for the smothered pork chop meal with black-eyed peas, which were deeply flavorful and 'soulful' in the best way. My son loved the generous portion of chicken tenders, and my hot wings were a standout the mild sauce is honestly some of the best I've ever tasted. The Surprise Star: I'm still thinking about the garlic fries. They were unapologetically, perfectly garlicky. The Experience: Beyond the food, the service here is top-tier. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, from the person who took our order to our server, who shared the history of the restaurant with us. The space is surprisingly roomy with both comfortable indoor and outdoor options. We'll definitely be back!

There was a deal on door dash so I thought I should take advantage of it and I decided to order from this place. Had never heard of it before but I was in the mood for soul food. I looked at the menu and didn't really know what to try, so I just went with old reliable; Fried chicken plate with Mac and Yams. I tried to order another side but each side was $10. So I was like "I'm not paying $10 for one side!" But MAN I should have! My food was INCREDIBLE. I took one bite of the Mac and cheese and it was so good, I set my timer for 4:30am just so I can wake up early and workout. Anything that good, has to immediately be shortening your lifespan. My goodness it was great. The yams were super flavorful and the chicken was juicy and crunchy. And they left me a lil piece of cornbread and even that was delicious. Just all around great experience. Fried Chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. 2. Meatloaf with rice and gravy and cabbage. 3. Fried chicken dinner with greens, macaroni and cheese, and dressing with gravy. A guy at a nearby table mentioned that the chicken was overcooked but we requested a light fry and really enjoyed the chicken. The green beans were seasoned perfectly with sliced carrots and onions. The only two issues were the cabbage wasn't seasoned well and needed to be cooked longer. Also the cornbread was not sweet and was reheated in a microwave. Overall all of us enjoyed our meal! My family and I came late in the day and that may have been our first mistake. We could not eat inside. We ordered various items including oxtails, macaroni, yams, peach cobbler, smothered pork chops, and chicken wings. Two of the people got sick... one was on a later flight and had to go to the hospital by ambulance upon landing. The chicken wings were cold, the peach cobbler was all sugar (barely any crust), the oxtails were not bad. I was able to sample that and agreed that it was actually pretty good. The macaroni didn't have taste. The person who got the smothered pork chops was sick all night. Sadly, most of our food was thrown away because it just wasn't good. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant at all, but as I said, with the reviews that are prior to mine, hopefully it was just a bad day.

The restaurant has a very casual, laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and enjoy your meal. One of my favorite parts was the outdoor patio. It had plenty of shade, which made it comfortable even during the warmer part of the day, and it added to the overall vibe. For the food, the mac and cheese was definitely a highlight. It was creamy, flavorful, and had a nice homemade taste that paired well with everything else on the plate. I also ordered the catfish, which was cooked well and had a nice texture. The only thing that kept it from being perfect was that it was seasoned a little heavier than I personally prefer. There was one particular seasoning that I couldn't quite identify, but it was a bit overpowering at first. Thankfully, adding a squeeze of lemon and using the tartar sauce really balanced the flavors and made it much more enjoyable. The mashed potatoes were good, although they reminded me of upgraded instant mashed potatoes. They were very garlicky, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're a garlic lover. I even wondered if that same bold garlic flavor was part of the seasoning on the catfish since the flavors seemed similar. Overall, I had a good meal and enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere was welcoming, the patio was a great place to sit, and the food was satisfying despite a couple of small flavor preferences. I'd definitely come back to try some of the other menu items and would recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for a casual spot with good comfort food.
