    How they package your meals.

Nothing can stop, Soul Food Renaissance! This hidden gem is located on the corner of Artesia and Cherry off the 91 freeway. It's a small yet charming establishment full of kindness, love and great food. This isn't your traditional place, this is like visiting your Big Mama and feeling at home. You seat yourself and there is only one menu that hangs on the wall. I decided to visit on a Sunday at 2:30pm with my sister and it wasn't packed at all. However, that didn't stop people from ordering ahead and coming in to pick up. This place stays cooking, and after tasting the food...I see why. The restaurant is clean, organized and welcoming. The staff is very friendly, kind and generous. Be advised, the menu has so many amazing combos and options which makes it hard to decide. Also, Sundays are dinner portions only, so don't come looking for lunchtime specials. After staring at the menu for 10min or more I finally decided to get the fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and fries as my side. My sister ordered the turkey chops with cabbage and yams as her side. My fried chicken was heaven sent. The crunch, the flavor and juiciness of the chicken had me dancing in my seat. You also get rice and gravy and the gravy had me going crazy(in a good way) I legit wanted to ask for a side of gravy just to dip my chicken in. Be aware, the gravy can be addictive. The macaroni and cheese were creamy, seasoned, and baked with love. My sis loved her turkey chops and her sides as well. This is a place where you know from One meal, that everything they cook is A1. If you're missing your grandmas cooking or need food for the soul, stop by Soul Food Renaissance for a taste that makes you whole.

2 Piece Fried Chicken, Smothered Pork Chop, Macaroni and Cheese, Rice and Gravy, Collard Greens& Cornbread

The smothered pork chop was probably my favorite in terms of flavor, but everything else was delicious as well. The pork chop and fried chicken are savory, the collard greens are salty, macaroni cheesey, the rice with gravy has a mild spicy heat and the cornbread is sweet - so the combination of it all works well together because of the variety of flavors. The staff working there were also friendly and nice. The main reason the review got 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is a little pricey for the portion of food, the parking lot is also small and there wasn't air conditioning. They did, however, have a large fan blowing and provided us a pitcher of ice water... which helped out alot. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant, but I would imagine people probably take food to-go partially due to those reasons. If you are extra hungry, I might recommend maybe going for the hungry man portions. Our mini dinners, however, were sufficiently filling without any leftovers.

Ask the Community - Soul Food Renaissance

Have they reopened the dine in part of the restaurant, or is still only take out?

Yes as far as I know. It was closed when I went for an upcoming events.

I went to Soul Food restaurant back in 2005 across the street from Jessie Owen's park and a Mc Donald's. The food was amazing but I cant remember the name . Is this the same place?

You may be talking about Berthas but they're closed. Don't know how long.…

Howz the food now? I love fried cat fish can't find a good place to get it.

Our cat fish is really good, you should come on in and give it a try. Just tell the person at the desk how you like your fish fried and they will take care of you!

Walking in feels like a deep memory unlocked with the waft of comfort food settling in between the laughs of nearby conversations, funk playing on the speakers, forks hitting the plates, and tv's playing "horse talk" commercials (the owner's side quests). I told my husband that with so much going on, typically in another restaurant, I would feel overstimulated but something about it all feeling cozy and welcoming felt good. Like being in the middle of a big and beautiful family party. Our server Alma was kind and attentive even at 11:30 pm, on the cusp of their midnight closing. The manager stopped by and made sure everybody had what they needed and was enjoying their night. Once our food came out and we got our sauces going, we took our first bite and instantly knew why Roscoe's carries the reputation they do. They do it right and they do it WELL! We split the #6: a waffle & three chicken strips and ordered a side of fries. That was good for two hungry adults (no leftovers in boxes just happy tummy's). We ate and they left no crumbs.

So, in all honesty I never had such dish of Chicken and Waffles, until coming here. So from the pic I took.. I'm not entirely sure but I think I had the scoes #1, having it ummm.. dark meat. And usually whenever I have pancakes I get sugar free syrup but what the heck I just went with the flow with regular syrup - I didn't feel like asking. And had some layered type of fruit drink called the eclipse.. and wow it was unique and tasty; lemonade, orange juice and some fruit punch. Then had the waffles and chicken and boy was it a good first time eating this. I at the chicken first and had a bit of portions of the waffle with the butter and syrup smothered together and it's just so good .. I tend to finish the chicken first for the majority of the time and have the remaining waffles (like half) as "dessert". It was a good meal. I like the artwork and the celebrity portraits around the place. I snapped a couple of pics and sent them to my IG group chat of a couple of homies from the previous job I worked at being cult full of hater nation RestorationHardware call center in Tracy, CA - they saw the pics and said to "be careful " because of some crime that happened there.. I was like dude that's not at this location smh.. but the other ones like ... we'll nevermind but you can search it, as I found nothing here so I think it's pretty much safe though I was just here for a week. Staff was all professional and courteous and made a great recommendation what to try for first timers- I think the manager was present as well making his rounds and asking how the food is and so on, and pretty much satisfied! A good place to eat like, once in a while! Consider maybe going a couple times out of the year! I plan to visit SoCal again next summer and surely I'll come back!

At 1:21 1 hr later I got my food, and to my disappointment when I got home the food was not good the yams i don't even have words for, the greens no seasoning and a lil under cooked, the succotash the okra not cooked well again no seasoning and a lot of end pieces, the black eyed peas no seasoning very bland, the cornbread was very thick. So sad the state this restaurant is in, they need to revamp too much going on door dash orders, online orders, dine in and orders at the window. So with that said this will be my last time going back to this restaurant.

The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly and attentive, but unfortunately, for the most part, the food fell flat. I originally wanted to try the shrimp po'boy, but I asked if I could have regular mayonnaise instead of the garlic mayo they serve with it. I was surprised when I was told they didn't have plain mayo, so I decided to go with something else. I ordered the fried okra ($11.90), which I didn't enjoy. It was very heavily breaded and overcooked. We also tried the fried chicken ($18.95) with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes, and unfortunately the chicken was another miss for me. My guest did enjoy the steak salad ($17.95) with grilled tri-tip, so that was better received. One definite standout was the complimentary cornbread they brought to the table. It was excellent and easily my favorite thing I tried. Our subtotal was $50.75, with $5.32 tax, bringing the total to $56.07 before tip. I'm sure Georgia's has plenty of loyal customers, as it has been around for a while, and the clean restaurant and attentive service were positives. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't to my taste, and based on this visit, I don't see myself returning.
