I live in California and my daughter lives in Fort Lauderdale and needed to get some work done on her condo. We called both Home Depot and Lowe's to attempt to use their contractor service as my daughter lives alone and I didn't want just anyone showing up plus I wanted to ensure the work was done properly. Well after about 4 months of trying I finally gave up and was on my way to Florida to visit and decided to use Yelp which has always been positive. I searched for a Handy Man (Handy Person if you're offended ‍) and looked at the reviews. Reached out to a few people and Miguel from M&P Maintenance responded. We communicated via text, I honestly can't recall if we actually spoke but I told Miguel that the front door wasn't closing properly and we wanted to replace the door and the locks and get some painting and other touch up work done. I sent Miguel a photo of the door, both sides and the frame and door jamb. Miguel responded 'Hey, I don't think that door needs to be replaced'. I was like naw it doesn't close properly and I'd like it replaced. He insisted that it probably just needed to be looked at but he would let me know. I can honestly say I that just hearing someone say I don't have to replace something put me in a good place. I had to go back to California but made an appointment for Miguel to see the unit when my daughter was home. Miguel showed up when he said he would. He immediately sent me a text saying that the door was in great shape but apparently over the years the prior owners had continually put weather stripping that caused the door to not close properly. He took apart all the old stripping, cleaned up the door, all the whole texting and sending me photos while doing this work. My daughter said Miguel was extremely pleasant and respectful and showed her everything he was doing prior to taking it apart. Miguel fixed the door, went out and replaced the locks on the doors, cleaned up and left. My daughter had a list of other things she wanted done and Miguel made an appointment to come back to paint the entire place in few weeks. Miguel didn't even ask about payment. It wasn't until I asked him what I owed him did he say how much it was which was beyond reasonable. Miguel is a gem, and I am extremely happy with the work but also how he made my daughter feel safe and didn't speak down to her and showed her how and why he was doing what he was doing. Negative zero stars!! Had same bad experience as Steffi (see review below) so I am shocked by the good reviews he has on Yelp. The tasks I needed help with were very simple: install a ceiling fan, 3 bifold closet doors, 2 sliding closet doors & replace baseboards in a room. I only contacted him to get an estimate on his fees. Would only contact me via text & his questions sounded like he was very confused about these tasks. I texted him request to either speak on the phone or meet in person but he ignored it. The last text I received from him was that I should hire a professional door company to install my closet doors. This was hands down one of the strangest dealings I have ever had with a service provider. Miguel is a gem. He's friendly, punctual and his work is top-notch. He came to my house to do a few repairs ... fixing some water damage on the ceiling, caulking a bathtub and other miscellaneous tasks. He did a fantastic job. But what really impressed me was how he went out of his way to check other things while he was here. For example, after he fixed the bathtub, he checked the sink. It was loose and he tightened it. He heard a toilet running in my son's room and asked if he could check to see if it was leaking. (It was.) He was nice enough to go out and purchase the parts he needed to do the repairs himself. He didn't send me out to look for parts I don't know anything about. And he was super friendly to my dogs. Which I always appreciate. :) And did I mention his rates are super reasonable? Seriously!
