I…read moreexpressed interest and then changed my mind because I had just put my cat down I was going through a range of emotions. But I could not stop thinking about this cat so I made arrangements to pick him up on a Monday on my return from San Jose to Folsom. The foster house (Risha / Larissa) met me. I was so disgusted by this house that I almost changed my mind. The outside was so dirty and had six or eight feral cats on her porch and in her driveway. They were cat crates and other things strewn all over the place. The outside reeked of cat urine. I was afraid to go inside but stepped in to pet the cat that I was interested in. The house was so filthy, cluttered, and in total disarray, and it also reeks of urine. At this point I decided to get the cat simply to get him out of that situation if nothing else. She did not have any of his paperwork ready, although he was supposedly at an adoption event the day before so you would think that it should be handy. She showed me quickly on her phone but never sent me any of the documentation for this cat, his vaccines, his microchip, or neutering. She gave him a shot of something - who knows what - in the driveway which was appalling. She is not a vet or a vet tech, simply volunteers at a shelter. I don't think she has any other qualifications to be giving vaccines let alone doing it and unsanitary conditions outside. Once I got this cat home I realized he is covered in fleas. I rushed out to buy flea bath and flea protection and have been trying to eradicate them from my home and car for the last 5 days. I demanded a full refund from this agency not only for the adoption but for the flea treatment. This should have been done before he ever left her possession. He also should've had a nail trim but he didn't. The cat also smelled like urine like her disgusting house. I was surprised that they refunded all of my money for the adoption and the flea protection. I am grateful for that because this cat needs to be seen at the vet and make sure he is healthy has been neutered and update his shots because I have no idea what they actually gave him. They tried to make me sign a ridiculous contract six days later after demanding his paperwork. The contract tries to hold the adoptee much more accountable for the health and wellness of a pet that they don't uphold themselves. It also says that if you cannot keep the cat that you need to give it back to them. Over my dead body would I ever give this cat back to that woman. She should not be allowed to have pets. She also should not be allowed to have children but she does! I feel so bad for those kids as well as the pets. East of Eden should be much more responsible with who they associate with and inspect the homes and conditions of their fosters that they are advertising. This situation was infuriating. In the end I have what appears to be a very happy and healthy cat and I am thankful for that and I am sure he is thankful to be out of that situation. Stay away from this agency!

I got a lot of run around and they were pretty short with me when I would talk to them on the phone. I even found myself apologizing to one of the ladies because she made me feel like I was wasting her time as she was making a Starbucks order and speaking to me at the same time. A lady text me in regards to the kittens but she eventually stopped messaging back. we didn't end up getting any kittens which we were really hoping for. they definitely need more organization and communication between staff members. you'd think they would want the kittens to go to good homes quickly but this was not the case with east of Eden.

Not sure when they'll open up again with Covid but I encourage you to check their website (tvar.org) as they frequently have very good animals that need homes. 4 years ago we got our yorkie from there. He's become the love of our lives. The adoption fee was only $35 at the time, but we also paid for the neutering and chipping at a deep discount. We're so lucky to get him. He has a small limp and is not friendly to other dogs, but he's a love bug to us!

I drove up to Lafayette so excited and MaryAnn was so wonderful! She was so great and took her time answering all my questions. After deciding that I was ready to take her home, MaryAnn accompanied me to the pet store to make sure I got all of Lulu's food etc. and to top it off I got a discount at Pet Food Express! I took Lulu home and I was super excited. She was so sweet and full of energy and did not want to leave my sight. She had separation anxiety & leash aggression that I got very overwhelmed. I was so overwhelmed that I called MaryAnn crying asking if I can give her back because I felt I couldn't give Lulu what she wanted me too. She was so understanding and she advised me to give Lulu another chance and this was all so new to Lulu and she was just as scared as I was. So I listened to MaryAnn's advise and I gave that precious little dog another chance. One year later I'm the most happiest person ever. She is the best little thing that could have happened to me. We go on runs together, many many walks, does well with other dogs. Lulu also gets to come to work with me and she's one of the most friendliest dogs in our office. She loves people and people adore her. I couldn't of done it without MaryAnn's help. Thank you so much MarryAnn! I can't believe it's almost been a year!

Outstanding. I rescued a dog and he is great, except. Koda would bark at every dog while on walks…read more& hikes. And he would fence fight. It was so bad that walks were not fun, they were embarrassing. He'd see another dog and bark, jump around and look viscous. I tried another dog training company, but all they did was teach me how to feed treats to my dog. Zero progress was made, and I was discouraged. Then I found Joshua Kaplan. We began making progress on our first session. After two weeks, Koda was showing a 70% improvement! By six weeks, I called Koda "cured"! Koda and I can walk anywhere, anytime without him going crazy around other dogs. It is now a joy to walk my dog; much more fun. We are now 10 weeks in and even my wife can control Koda. About the fence fighting...before, he would bark and jump on the fence, scaring everyone including my neighbors. Now after ten weeks, Koda still wants to bark, but doesn't really...We are now at the point where he runs up and down the fence line whining, and just a little quiet squeak of a bark. No more jumping on the fence. Serious progress from where we started, and it's only 10 weeks! Thanks to Joshua! Joshua made all the difference. He's direct, to the point, but not forceful. Super patient as I ask about a billion qHe explains all instructions in great detail and answers all my questions to my complete satisfaction. Best dog training experience ever!

While we were comfortable training her the basics, such as sit, down, come, etc. on our own, we were looking for a dog trainer that understands her breed mix and to give us guidance on training her properly, because after all, it is the owners' responsibility to make sure their dog is well-behaved in public. We know there are many puppy obedience classes, but we knew with her shy personality that a group setting would not be comfortable for her. We happened to find Joshua on a Facebook page where other dog owners had recommended him. So, we called him up and discussed what we wanted to do with our dog. We wanted her to be great on recall, loose leash walking, and taking her downtown with us. He explained his training methods and made sure we understood what was needed for training. There was absolutely no pressure from Joshua on immediately starting. We had 5 sessions with Joshua but felt like we only needed 4. This is how good of a dog trainer he is. He got us to feel comfortable with letting our dog off leash in a wide open space during the second session. His methods on training recall are incredible and extremely effective. Never in my mind would I thought I would be able to let a puppy off leash that quick. We went downtown and had coffee while training our dog to sit next to us and be patient. Loose leash walking is still a work in progress but that was to be expected. Not only has Joshua taught us the knowledge in training our dog, but it has also helped our dog build her confidence and become her goofy, happy go lucky self. In just 3 months, we have complete trust in her being off leash and she loves meeting new people and making doggie friends. I could not be prouder of how far our dog has come in such a short amount of time, and we have Joshua to thank for that.

She was the sweetest being and lived along and happy life for 16 years. When she passed, we found out that Judy was still offering such beautiful fur babies, and we went to her again. She is the real deal! She let us know about a new litter and we fell in love with one of them! Both were 100% healthy and well behaved and loving and sweet! She has turned out to be just as sweet and beautiful as Bella was! We truly believe it is all because of Judy's loving care while nurturing them in that all important young puppy stage. As far as those negative, irresponsible and disrespectful comments posted by DEBY S., such wild and inaccurate accusations and characterizations of such a good person are horribly misguided and does not characterize the person that we have come to know and love, and were provided two amazing, beautiful puppies from, 20 years apart! I retired from breeding and I later discovered that my name was mentioned in a complaint on a ripoff site against Judy, and she had continued to use my name and my stock photos for years afterward, presenting them as the stud/dam to puppies she is currently selling. She exhibits unscrupulous behavior and lacks integrity, often fabricating stories about care, and for many years, she has been known to sell questionable, healthy puppies. Furthermore, her website falsely promotes that the puppies are vet-checked and provides a certification from a veterinarian who retired a decade ago and no longer owns the business.

Came here over the weekend after the gf found this Pet Fair listed online. When we read that there…read morewould be over 2K pets up for adoption over the course of the 2 day weekend, we knew we had to just come to check out all the cute fur babies. Located in Alameda County Fairgrounds, the premise itself is quite big, and parking is plentiful and free, albeit unpaved and rather bumpy. When parking, be sure to make a note of the lot #, located at the front of each lot, in addition to the section letter. We made the mistake of only looking at the section letter and then later realizing that each lot had the same letters. While it may be a bit of a walk from the lot to the actual event itself depending on where you park, they have courtesy shuttles (aka trucks towing trailers with covered seating) that will take you to the event space and then later back to your car. The actual event outside has a TON of different booths hosting different vendors ranging from pet supplies, pet food, to pet photos. And most of them were giving out free samples so we wound up with a big bag full of dog food/treats by the time we left. As Pet Food Express is hosting the event, they give out a free tote bag for you to hold your freebies in as you roam the premise. And many other vendors thankfully also offer free tote bags as well. There are two main indoor buildings, with one side hosting dogs for adoption, and the other side hosting cats. In addition, we also saw many bunnies and even sold birds up for adoption as well. All the animals we encountered were very well socialized, and even the few which had signs warning people not to stick your hand in their cage/crate did not appear aggressive. At one point, my gf fell in love with this one cutie of a puppy that was such a sweetheart! Fortunately (or unfortunately if you ask my gf), she was already adopted. Else I am pretty convinced that we would have probably left there with a new family member. The event is well organized and well spaced out. There are plenty of workers and volunteers around if you have any questions, and despite it being in the mid 90's outside, even the outdoor tents which housed pets had fans and/or mist sprays which kept things cool and comfortable for all animals involved. And to keep dogs from burning their feet on the hot concrete, we saw workers avidly spraying down the ground to keep things cool. Plus water/bath stations were plentiful as well. Overall a really great event that allowed us to interact and play with a variety of different 4-legged friends. Be warned however for the possibility of leaving with a new addition to the family!

I went in 2017 and had a blast, I didn't adopt since I already had/ have 3 cats already at the…read moretime, so went to see what foods they had etc. they had a cat litter there that was Made in California, it was ultra fine and clumped SO fast and didn't stick to the sides. Their booth was ONLY about the cat Litter. I bought 4 bags of it and forgot the name of the company who made it. I know this is a long shot and someone may never see this but if you remember please let me know the brand because it was life changing for me! They need to bring this Event back!!! I really miss going!
