As a long time customer (with a previous review for M-spec) I feel so bummed to write this review because I truly love these guys and wanted to feel like they valued my relationship with them but things have just changed over there and I just hope they fix it. Not sure if it's cause they opened a second location and are strapped or what but something is just missing in the communication department. They previously worked on my '02 X5 which had its many vague and ever lasting issues, as old cars do, and when rare issues came up Eddie and the team found the needle in the haystack memo BMW put out on wiring harness issues in my model that no one would have figured out. I've since moved on to a '16 x4 and have brought it a few times but feel really discouraged with my most recent visit. I started getting the engine light coming on and my reader was throwing an Evap Leak code. And then my brake light went. I emailed Phil asking if I could set an appointment where I bring it on a Monday and explained that I needed to pick it up by Thursday. We've had great transparent communication in the past so they know full well to let me know if that's not possible and I'll set it for another week that works better for them but we agreed and I was there first thing on a Monday in late August to drop it off. This is when things became frustrating. James was at the front desk when I arrived at 8:15am and I didn't seem to have an appointment. He said it was no problem and they could take the car. I explained the evap leak and brake light issue and that Phil understood I needed the car back by Thursday (so if the evap leak couldn't be fixed - I would bring in back again the following week). By Tuesday I hadn't heard anything which is unusual for them so I emailed to check in. Phil got back to me to tell me they replaced a pump and needed to drive it that night and would be in touch the next day. I asked about the brake light and got no response but figured...they got me. By Thursday AM I hadn't heard so I called and spoke with James who asked me if I could pick it up Friday night (not an option for me which I had stressed from the start) since they hadn't cleared the code yet - he went on a very long rant about them not having the software for my car since it's newer and that it should go to BMW who does have the software (WHY???) it was all very vague and unsettling so I called back a few minutes later and spoke to Phil who assured me everything was fine and later spoke with Eddie who assured me I don't need to bring it to the dealer for the leak. (but why did James say that?) I told them I would need to come by that evening to get it. When I arrived I found that they never even got to the brake light which was my more immediate need since I was driving out of town for a wedding the following morning and should be a fairly simple/quick fix but I let it go. Still this was pretty disappointing. The bill was very cheap which concerned me (assuming smoke tests would have been done for the leak, etc...but I'm no mechanic and trust them) so didn't overthink it. Over that weekend the permanent code disappeared from my reader and all seemed fine which was a relief. I was planning to get the car back to them soon for the light. Later into the following week my engine light is back on and the reader is telling me evap leak again. I called and James answered, I expressed my disappointment and frustration that my last visit resulted it the brake light not being fixed and the entire time being focused on the leak only for it to not be fixed. I expressed that I wasn't sure about bringing it back and possibly just going to the dealer (as James had previously mentioned) and that I would think about what I wanted to do. I called the following day and expressed to Phil the same thing and told him I would like to discuss with Eddie what could be done. He told me Eddie was busy but would call me that afternoon. It has now been two weeks since I was promised Eddie would call. Like I've said from the start, I love these guys. I spent a lot of money having them work on my previous car and as my current car ages I would be ready to spend the money to schlep out there to have them fix this one, but if they can't take the time to keep my appointments, not make me chase them for updates, discuss issues with me transparently so I'm hearing different stories from different staff, or make me practically beg them to have Eddie call me about if they truly can or cannot fix this leak, then sadly, I need to take my business elsewhere which is such a freaking bummer. I am really really sad to leave but I'm not about to go chasing them to take my business if they're too busy for me. I've since made an appointment to go to the next best BMW mechanic on yelp, who assures me they have the proper software to service my car. I just hope they do better, because right now, they have a dedicated customer who's leaving. And maybe I'm not the only one? read more

Best shop to take care of your favorite German car! The guys are highly knowledgeable, professional and respectful. I have been coming to this shop since 2007 and have originally found them through Bimmer Forums. The first car I took here was a 1998 E36 328is. The first thing that Eddie said to me when I had met him was that we only do things the right way. He then proceeded to look around the engine bay showing me all the minor issues that honestly, would not matter to many people, such as an incorrect nut, or cable strap that snapped. But to me, that sounded like knowledge and my level of ocd to make sure things are perfect! They made sure that car ran like clockwork until I sold it. At that time the car had 174k miles and ran perfectly! Part of the reason for trouble free experience was because the guys had the foresight and knowledge to let me know what I can expect and approximately when. Some of the work that was performed: * Diagnosed and resolved a suspension issue that three other shops and a dealership could not resolve. * Diagnosed and resolved a loudly clicking A/C tensioner that was incorrectly installed by the dealer and that another shop could not diagnose. * Clutch and brakes replacement. General minor and major services. Preventative care. Speaking of preventative care, if they tell you that something can potentially go wrong in the future, go to www.bimmerforums.com and search around. I can guarantee you that you will see stories of the mentioned issues and why they happened. Eddie and Adam really know their cars!!! You can also be completely confident that they will use only the best parts and fluids they can find. And they will be more than happy to recommend any upgrade to OEM parts if you want to get better performance from your car! At one point, one of my BMWs was covered by BMW warranty and service, and I had made the mistake of taking it to the dealer. Three dealerships in New York screwed up as much as possible, even basic things like over filling engine oil! One trip to M-Spec and everything was taken care of. I cannot recommend this shop highly enough. These guys started out with just three lifts in a small shop. Now, brand new lifts, top of the line alignment station, wheel balancing station and top of the range electronic diagnostic. And to show how serious this place is, they are authorized DINAN and BavSound dealers and installers! Regarding the negative reviews. A modern car is an incredibly complex machine. Being an engineer, I can appreciate that sometimes it takes time to diagnose and resolve an issue. Unfortunately not everyone can appreciate this fact, or even bother to think about it. Even if mistakes happen, they can happen anywhere, and unfortunately they are part of life. However the guys here will do everything they can to help you resolve *any* issue. If they do happen, give them a chance to resolve the issues correctly, you will not be disappointed. Having spent a lot of time in that shop, I have seen repeat customers many times over. These are the people that are passionate about their cars, and they care about the work that is performed on their cars. They would not come back to the shop if they were getting bad service. I have also seen many people that would come in, get a quote, get upset why it is not free (because apparently their time is worth nothing), leave, and then come back a few weeks later because some other shop completely screwed up their car. I was referred to M-Spec by my neighbor James who said good things about this shop. I went on Yelp to see if there was any worth while reviews and found most of the reviews to be positive, and even discussed M-Spec with a fellow business partner Juan who lives around the corner from M-Spec. Juan mentioned that he personally has not used M-Spec but has noticed that the shop always having German cars parked in front waiting to be serviced. That gave me more confidence to bring my vehicles since its a referral from James, I research on Yelp and google and my business partner Juan mentioned that a constant flow of German cars being serviced at this facility. I had brought my E30 to a different facility due to an emergency repair of the drain plug to the oil pan. The facility gave my car the green light and said that she was fine. After about 2 weeks, I had finally made it to my appt at M-Spec for overview inspection and maybe a second set of winter tires. The report came back that I needed the following: valve cover gasket, steering rack with inner tie rods, tie rod ends, sway bar link- front, 1 shock absorber, wheel alignment, one set (4) snow tires and rims and replacing my brake fluid. I approved the necessary recommendations and I must say that I am very pleased with my E30 now. I feel that the overall suspension is much firmer. I can't wait to drive my car up to New Hampshire later next month when we get some real snow. I am recommending this facility for the following reasons: 1. M-Spec runs a tight ship and everything seems very organized. 2. The facility is clean. 3. They deliver what they promise, which means its done in timely fashion when you follow up. 4. Assisted with transportation when I left my vehicle for service. 5. Their work is guarantee by third party insurance which I am not familiar with but impressed. 6. The client manager Michael Delikat is very professional and gave me invaluable information on how I may save on insurance through Hagerty and other invaluable information about my vehicle. I highly recommend that everyone should bring their car for service here and have it service right the first time rather than coming back after failed elsewhere. Good luck! read more

Wow, I can't say enough good things about M-Spec! I was having issues with my BMW 335xi and I took it to two other auto shops before finding these mechanical geniuses. Once they diagnosed the problem, they were extremely thorough in their explanation of what was wrong and what needed to be done to remedy the problem. They made everything very easy to understand, with "how's" and "why's". I was 100% comfortable with having these gentlemen work on my car. The REAL selling point for me, though, was the customer service. I was very anxious to get my car fixed and showed up to the shop 10 minutes before they opened... though I was unaware that M-Spec worked by appointment. While I was waiting in my car, I was approached by William who saw me just sitting there. He was very friendly and informed me that they work by appointment, but that he would move some cars and they'd be able to help me out. I then spoke to Phil who asked me to explain what I was experiencing with the car, and while I did he listened very attentively. It was refreshing not to be cut off and/or told what was wrong with the car without it being diagnosed, as some other auto shops had done to me. I was then introduced to Ruben who diagnosed the car and explained to me in detail the error codes that were produced and what they usually allude to. Phil checked to see if there were any recalls on parts associated with the problems I was experiencing, while Ruben continued to educate me about my car. I left the car there a got a call the following day with what was wrong with it, what it would take to fix it and how much it would cost. A day or two after that they were finished and told me I could come pick it up. They also sent me a comprehensive inspection report, further detailing my car and areas of concern. They day I went to pick up my car, they closed at 6 but being that I was at work, Phil told me that he'd be ok with waiting a little while after 6 for me to show up. When I got out the cab, Phil was there cleaning the car for me. Customer service IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! I will NEVER take my vehicles anywhere else. M-Spec has a customer for life. read more

Very disappointed with the lack of pricing transparency and hidden fees. I called ahead to get a quote for a basic Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) and was verbally quoted around $220 by Jason. However, when it came time to pay, the total bill shot up to over $285. On top of sales tax, they tacked on a $21.65 "Parts Kit / Shop Supplies" fee--on a purely visual inspection where ZERO parts or shop supplies were actually consumed. When you call for a simple inspection quote, you expect to be told the out-the-door price, not hit with undisclosed shop fees at checkout. The technician's inspection itself was okay, but the deceptive quote and hidden fees leave a bad taste. If you choose to use this shop, make sure you get a strict "out-the-door" price in writing before dropping off your vehicle. UPDATE in response to the owner's reply: The owner's response is filled with false claims and personal attacks, further proving their lack of professionalism and pricing transparency: False Narrative on Estimate: Jason was NOT even present when I arrived. Another staff member took my keys and proceeded with the inspection without presenting any written or verbal estimate or providing an "out-the-door" price beforehand. False Claim on Filming: I explicitly asked for permission before taking a brief video, and no one objected at the time. Documenting the vehicle's mechanical defects (loose tie rod) on a car I paid $285 to inspect is standard PPI procedure. Calling a paying customer "creepy" and lying that I did it "without asking" is just a low attempt at character assassination to deflect from hidden fees. The Core Issue (Hidden Fees): Tacking on an unexpected $21.65 "shop supply/parts kit" fee at checkout for a purely visual inspection--where ZERO parts were replaced--is not transparent. Shop tool maintenance should be built into your hourly rate, not added as a surprise fee. Unprofessional Conduct: Telling a customer "please never come back" simply because they called out unexpected fees speaks volumes about how this shop handles feedback. The 1-star rating stands for hidden fees and deceptive communication. read more

After numerous unacceptable repairs at a number of BMW Dealerships I was ready to divest myself of my 2010 235xi which had recently come off warranty. I had saved a flyer from M-Spec on my desk for the possibility of future use and am very thankful I did. It would have disappointed me greatly to dispose of this vehicle but the totally unsatisfactory service from multiple dealerships necessitated this possibility. On 03/18/2016 I was forced to have my vehicle towed to Freeport BMW from Queens for a reoccurring problem they had worked on Towing Cost $130. They required a Diagnostic Test to find the problem cost $160. Their test indicated that the Low Pressure Fuel Pump needed replacement (this was incorrect), it took them 5 days to reach this conclusion. Actually this pump had recently been replaced by Lauderdale BMW in Florida. Not believing their diagnosis I had the car towed to M-Speck they diagnosed the problem in one day and found that it was the HPFP and that it was under warranty for 10 years their Diagnostic Cost $160. A tow was arranged by them to Bayshore BMW cost $250. They replaced the HPFP for no charge under warrantee. After the repair was completed Technicians from M-Speck drove my vehicle back to their shop where they performed some other unrelated repairs. The car was ready for my pickup 1 day later and is now running as it should be. Phil handled the whole situation for me and deserves my thanks for a totally professional, responsive and caring experience. I hope to become a long term client of theirs. read more

I have been bringing my 2010 Mini Cooper to M-Spec Performance for a few years for both its regular oil changes and whatever else it needed from time to time. The mini was due for a oil change, but also had a rough idle and it turns out it needed a it needed a bit more this time. M-Spec went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable with the work that needed to be done before getting started. They provided us with a courtesy car (which was awesome) while the mini was getting worked on and provided us with regular updates so we knew all that was going on and all work was covered by a 3 year warranty. All work was completed (which ended up being extensive) but on schedule and on budget, while throwing in its state inspection which was nearly due. Even after handing the Mini back to us, Michael was following up with us to make sure everything was OK and that nothing was acting up. M-Spec's customer service is why we keep coming back. It is simply the best. From Michael's email and phone updates to walking me through the repair process both before and after the work was done, you simply cannot expect anything better then what M-Spec delivers. If you are looking for a place to work on your BMW, Mini, Merc, Audi or VW (pretty much anything German) then this is place or you. You will not regret it. I know I have not. read more

This is my second time at M-SPEC. I was very impressed with the level of professionalism and care during my first visit. If you are curious how that repair went, I am back for something unrelated :) These guys take their job seriously and are enthusiastic about what they do. Just the fact that you can chat with them about cars and performance is a big bonus in my book. A huge deal is that you get to consult with the owners who would their best to suggest possible treatments for your car AND help you by leaving what's not broken alone!!! There's a conversation going where you are shown examples and reasons for needed work without the usual nonsense (I've endured 35+ years of that before :))) M-SPEC techies also handle sophisticated upgrades which is another indicator of their high level of knowledge. Work is done properly, on time and reasonably priced as if you came from a German car dealership without paying for it. Love that they have a comprehensive website where you can schedule an appointment! If you are a car nut or just want to find specialists to work on your German machine, M-SPEC is the place. This is my second trip to M-Spec with my Focus St. They're not normally a domestic shop, I'm sure they've done some non-German vehicles in the past. Nonetheless my car was treated extremely well during its overnight stay. I came in to mount/balance four tires, install coilovers and have an alignment done. Effectively, one car went in and another came out. Eddie took care to make sure everything was bolted down to spec (even my lug nuts, something I've never seen a shop do ever before), going the distance with torque angles as well. The car rides very well now and is totally buttoned down. The previous issues I had with the car's tracking and ride comfort have been solved and this was all due to Eddie's suspension diagnosis on my first trip here. All in all, it was a positive experience, the rest of the crew there are all very friendly and welcoming and you never feel like you're in the dark about anything. All my questions, and I admit there were a few, were fully answered and as someone who appreciates knowing 'why' I felt they recognized my needs as a customer and went above and beyond to meet them. read more

I dont ever write Yelp Reviews but I specifically came to this page just to do that. I want everyone to know how amazing this place was when it came to the work on my car. I brought my Mercedes CLK 320 here and had a lot of work done to it. When I got the car back it seemed fine and I drove away happy. 1 day later the check engine light came back on and the original problem started happening again. I called Mike at the shop and he told me to bring the car down. I dropped the car off on a Friday morning and to my surprise Mike had made arrangements for me to receive a rental, which i ended up driving for 5 days while he worked on my car. When I came back to pick up my Mercedes, it was no charge for the work so not only did I get a free rental but no additional labor or parts costs. The shop is honestly the best place I have ever brought my car. Having a business owner who actually cares about the way his clients feel makes all the difference I will spread the word about the wonderful experience I had. I am very delayed in writing this very well deserved, positive review. I went to M-Spec when the air conditioner on my 2001 BMW 325i stopped working. I chose them because of all of the glowing reviews, and I couldn't agree more with all of the positive comments. I always dread having my car serviced, particularly as a female customer, because I always fear I will be taken advantage of and upsold a bunch of services I don't actually need. I didn't have any such concerns with M-Spec. They provided me with a detailed summary of their findings about my vehicle, and were completely honest about what issues needed to be addressed immediately or could wait for a while longer before being repaired. They let me know that I could delay the repair that would have been the most expensive. It was very easy to drop off and pick up the vehicle, and M-Spec did a great job fixing my air conditioning and a few other small problems that they found with the vehicle. Six months have gone by since then, and I haven't had trouble with it since. Finally, their employees couldn't have been nicer. read more

I have had my car for about five years now and can honestly say that these guys are the only ones I let get near it. I attend school out of state and when I have a problem I still make sure to get to make it all the way to M-Spec in New York so that the guys can check it out & they are EXTREMELY reliable, which is very fortunate for someone like me who is in and out of the city. My go to guy is Eddie! He's very friendly and most certainly knows what he is doing, he just makes your experience at M-Spec that much better but overall all of the guys that work here have an intense amount of knowledge in their field of work which I noticed from the very first day I went there, as well as every time I drop my car off with an issue and never have to deal with that same issue again. Which car owners know can be a real pain when you have a reoccurring issue. All in all i highly recommend M-spec Performance! especially to BMW owners who know how delicate and complicated the material can be, you want to feel comfortable when you drop off your car and at M-Spec you will!! read more

Have been working with M-Spec on and off for over four years. I've also dealt with a lot of other shops in the NYC area, both dealerships and independents. Can genuinely say this is the one of the best BMW / Mercedes / German auto repair shops in the NYC area. Having several BMWs with over 150,000 miles now, I know it wouldn't have been possible to have these cars last this long without Phil (manager) & and the M-Spec team (they were servicing these cars when they had less than 50k miles). They know cars/auto repair business (Eddie, one of the owners is great too!) and they don't try to upsell or cross-sell other / unnecessary services - these are honest people who know what they are doing. Highly recommend M-Spec and specifically Phil, the manager who've I've interacted with a lot over the years. First time bringing in my 2009 mini cooper (always used dealership repair service before) for brake job and maintenance service. All my inquiries and concerns were answered and addressed quickly, patiently and with courtesy. Adam and the technician who worked on my mini cooper provided excellent service. They also did a complete diagnostic on my car with pictures of any worn parts that would need future attention, and it is posted on a website with your own link to monitor your car needs...really cool. Already made a future appointment on a frayed belt which needs to be replaced soon. Very happy I found M-Spec, as they are a rare find in the auto repair industry. Wish I knew about M-Spec sooner, as I could have saved myself some money by paying dealership repair rates; and the service by M-Spec was better than the dealership. 5 ***** service and auto repair by far. read more

First off, I'd like to say I've been playing with cars for 13 years and I'm very picky with whom I trust my cars to. I found out about M-Spec through some friends and figured I'd go by, check it out...get a quote. Right for the get go, they were friendly, honesty and definitely knew there stuff. I noticed they had a lot nice clean Bimmers and Mercs in the shops. I have to admit I was concerned about turn around time since my car is a daily driver. Nonetheless I trusted my gut and setup a time & date to drop my car off on a Saturday...yes they're available on the weekends. In the end I got quality care, honest and clean communication and cheaper then dealer pricing. Would definitely recommend for the German car enthusiast. read more

Incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, prompt and friendly. My repair was a massive undertaking - an full engine swap that necessitated replacing several components and an incredible amount of labor. They keep me informed of every issue encountered along the way, always checked with me before making any changes or doing any work that would incur additional costs, and tested the car several times to make absolutely certain it was in top shape before handing back the keys -- and it was worth it. The car is running better than it ever has, and I've got their crew to thank. Wouldn't dream of taking my BMW to anyone else. read more

This is a nice place to go to get your car serviced. The place does seem to specialize in german auto-motives as can be seen by the lot filled with BMW's and it did kind of make me a little intimidated to bring my 2005 Hyundai Elantra there but I did inquire before I went there to see if they would be able to work on my car. I set up an appointment with them which I do recommend anyone do before they come here. I had a brake service done as well as an A/C recharge, and an oil change. The price was reasonable and they took the time to do quality service. They are friendly young business and have earned my trust. read more
