    Cut and styled by Melissa

I was referred to Melissa by a coworker of mine who has gotten her hair cut by this same stylist for ~20 years. I got my first haircut from her and I'm hooked- here's why. [WARNING: PUNS] Since I've moved to Orlando, I've been grudgingly going to a certain chain that rhymes with Care Not-ery to keep myself from looking homeless. It wasn't super effective. I gave up style for simplicity as to not confuse the quick turnover staff at my local Care Not-ery. At least four times I've gotten an apology for how they have cut my bangs shorter than I requested. "It doesn't look too bad" they said, "it will grow out" they said. The next day I styled my bangs and saw a stray, tiny lock that was a solid three inches longer than its brethren. It was the [hair] that broke the camel's back. I needed someone to rescue me from my locked-in cycle of dissatisfaction. I needed my own personal hair-oine. I needed Melissa. I called in the morning to make an appointment same day to see our story's hair-oine (I'm pretty proud of that one). She sat me down and started inspecting in a way that previous "stylists" would never even touch my hair- checking for layers, how far back my bangs start (queue furrowed eye brows), etc etc. All the while, her incredible personality shined and got me talking and feeling comfortable. I told her my hair goals: fix this hot mess, keep my hair long, but add copious amounts of style. "Melissa, this is a Jesus-take-the-wheel moment. I trust you." The next thing I know, I'm in a style-induced, euphoric blur. I got my hair-oine fix. Her work was shear brilliance. I thought I had dyed and was on my hairway to heaven. Okay sorry, I'm sure you're tearing your hair out at all of these horrible puns. But in all seriousness, Melissa is the bomb and I'm looking forward to a beautiful stylist-client relationship. I wouldn't take the ~hour to write this if she wasn't worth it. BONUS!!!- She's NOT contractually obligated to lead you to a wall filled with overpriced hair products and pressure you into buying them! Hooraaaaayyyy!!!

As always, perfection produced by Teena!

He strolled in 20min late for the appt. His ignorance and unprofessionalism mixed with a lack of talent should immediately disqualify him from ever touching someone's hair, again. He stated he teaches at Pau Mitchell. God help those people. They gave me a refund in the cut but not the tip. Hence the 2 stars instead of 1. The receptionist had a negative vibe. I'm from Denver. This was kind of a podunk salon to me but I guess Winter Park finds it suitable. Ryan cut me with a razor he uses all day. I could get a disease from his poor technique. He also cut me and didn't say anything. Coward. Edit to respond: Unhappy? A blind person can cut hair better than Ryan. There's no "feeling". It's a fact that he cut my hair like an amateur. I went to another salon. They said you hire anyone and that complaints about the quality of hair cuts is something other salons are aware of. Why would I return to allow him to continue or butcher my hair? My neck was bleeding. Your salon is trash. The photos I provided are proof. What a dumb way to try and side step responsibility. Calling you unprofessional would be too high of praise. You manage your salons like Ryan cuts hair. Regardless of the review I'm going to the doctor and I'm calling code enforcement.

After my consultation, I had my hair shampooed and conditioned before returning to the chair for my cut. Rebecca offered to diffuse my hair so I could wear my natural curls, and she even took the time to finger coil my curls before diffusing them. I really appreciated the extra care she put into styling my hair. Overall, I had a great experience at Mosaic for my first visit.

Unfortunately, the person who cut my hair did not do it properly and the situation made me feel worse when he basically chose to tell me I'm wrong. To start things off, I'll say the place is very nice and reminds me of a coffee shop. People are very nice and will even give you complimentary refreshments. Parking can be a little difficult since it's in Ivanhoe area. For my haircut, all I needed was a trim. The agreement was just maintaining most of the length and let the hair have some flow and texture towards the top. The guy even ran his hands through my hair to follow the direction it grows in. Next thing I know, he's combining my hair in the opposite direction and cutting. At first I thought it was some technique I'd never seen before. But turns out he fully intended for my hair to go in that direction. At the end, I asked why he cut my hair that way if originally he was even moving my hair in the proper direction. His response was that my hair wants to grow in the direction he cut. I chose not to argue since it had already been done and at that point I didn't trust him to fix it anyways. However, I do know he's wrong. My hair naturally falls in the direction seen in my picture as it dries. Now it has a weird shape on the sides with no life at the top. I'm sure these people are well trained, however I had a bad experience and will not be returning.

When I arrived to the salon (again, DAYS after booking the appt), I was asked to wait to meet my stylist. I was brought back to her chair where she asked me to describe what I'd like. She proceeded to say that she did not feel comfortable cutting my hair type. While I am grateful that she did not jump in while unsure, I did find it pretty upsetting that the stylist and the salon chose to handle this embarrassing situation in front of other clients rather than calling me beforehand or even speaking with me at the front of the salon. Likewise, I have a difficult time understanding the purpose of submitting pictures in advance (which the stylist stated she saw), but then waiting until after I have driven to the salon to discuss. J. Bauman was actually in the salon while this was happening and offered no reassurance or alternative. He sat on his phone in the front of the salon while the stylist told me how "awkward" the situation was. The best that they could provide was asking me to come in a different day (mind you this haircut was for my graduation the next day.) If you have textured, curly hair, I'd be extremely wary of booking with the curly cut stylist and this salon in general. I found that EDUCE down the road was a similar price point with a much more understanding and qualified staff.
