Parking can be a little difficult since it's in Ivanhoe area. For my haircut, all I needed was a trim. The agreement was just maintaining most of the length and let the hair have some flow and texture towards the top. The guy even ran his hands through my hair to follow the direction it grows in. Next thing I know, he's combining my hair in the opposite direction and cutting. At first I thought it was some technique I'd never seen before. But turns out he fully intended for my hair to go in that direction. At the end, I asked why he cut my hair that way if originally he was even moving my hair in the proper direction. His response was that my hair wants to grow in the direction he cut. I chose not to argue since it had already been done and at that point I didn't trust him to fix it anyways. However, I do know he's wrong. My hair naturally falls in the direction seen in my picture as it dries. Now it has a weird shape on the sides with no life at the top. I'm sure these people are well trained, however I had a bad experience and will not be returning.

The cut is very uneven and disconnected, and there's a noticeable section where a large piece of hair is missing. I honestly wouldn't recommend going with a junior stylist based on my experience. This has really affected my confidence. My hair took about three years to grow out, and now it's gone--it will take months to recover. I've had bad haircuts before, but this is by far the worst. Also, during the same visit, I wasn't offered water or soda like I have been on previous visits, which stood out to me.

When I arrived to the salon (again, DAYS after booking the appt), I was asked to wait to meet my stylist. I was brought back to her chair where she asked me to describe what I'd like. She proceeded to say that she did not feel comfortable cutting my hair type. While I am grateful that she did not jump in while unsure, I did find it pretty upsetting that the stylist and the salon chose to handle this embarrassing situation in front of other clients rather than calling me beforehand or even speaking with me at the front of the salon. Likewise, I have a difficult time understanding the purpose of submitting pictures in advance (which the stylist stated she saw), but then waiting until after I have driven to the salon to discuss. J. Bauman was actually in the salon while this was happening and offered no reassurance or alternative. He sat on his phone in the front of the salon while the stylist told me how "awkward" the situation was. The best that they could provide was asking me to come in a different day (mind you this haircut was for my graduation the next day.) If you have textured, curly hair, I'd be extremely wary of booking with the curly cut stylist and this salon in general. I found that EDUCE down the road was a similar price point with a much more understanding and qualified staff.

Jessica listened to my objectives and described a shorter haircut that would be perfect for me for the Florida summer. She used a razor to remove the weight of my hair but kept a similar style. She walked me through the process and explained everything in detail to make sure it was what I was looking for. I found out Jessica just taught her first class (on shags) and I can see why Phillip has such high confidence in her abilities. While waiting for my service (and even during it) I was able to help myself to a quick snack (or two). However, the highlight for me was definitely their hair washing station as the sinks have a very comfortable neck rest and for added comfort they provided me with a rolled up towel to place under my neck and even a step stool for my feet. Additionally, as a first-time client I was able to get a $25 discount, a thank-you note from the owner, a curated bag of Aveda travel products and coupons for my next visit. If you pay cash, a men's haircut + perm is $80 which is really affordable! This is about 2-3 hours of work. Tiffany is great here, but I've also had Tony and loved him as well. You can't go wrong here and you're in good hands! I do recommend calling for an appointment, they get pretty busy on the weekends which is understandable. You may be able to walk in if you come early, or visit during the weekends. They have a parking lot in the back but I always found it really easy to just park on the street in front of the plaza. Note the hair salon is towards the right end of the small plaza (their nail salon is on the left).
