Did not expect to walk into such an upscale and authentic Chinese restaurant in St. Catherines. We were visiting nearby for a photoshoot, and just needed a place to unwind and grab some food. With its nearly two thousand Google reviews and tasty looking menu, it was a no brainer. Instantly as we stepped in the restaurant we were blown away by the elegant decor and ambiance. You could have a classy dinner date, birthday celebration, or even wedding here if you wanted to! The space is built for all kinds of occasions and has many private rooms and spaces for the same. We, of course, sat on the main floor, with a couple other people eating at 4PM. The service was professional and fast, although I didn't feel too confident on the menu suggestions they gave me. We ended up ordering the Braised Beef Noodle Soup ($18), DongPo Pork ($27) and Xiaolongbao ($7) to share between two people. We did not need the dim sum dish - the other two items had sufficient portion to have us full. The star was definitely the DongPo Pork, which was perfectly braised and super tender. With rice, it was delicious. The noodle soup, while tasty, was a bit overhyped by the waiter who made it sound life changing - not at all mad at it, but I have definitely had better. In St. Catherines, I would assume that 'better' does not exist, so I understand. Overall, great visit. On the pricer side for Chinese food (around $80 all in for two people) but it certainly is upscale dining. I don't live anywhere close to St. Catherines so unlikely to be back, but I will recommend it to my friends if they visit the area. read more

Visited MA Chinese Cuisine while in St. Catharines. I've been enjoying this spot since they opened their doors in 2017. Many may already know them through the Wind group and their other locations. The atmosphere is one of the standout features -- modern and warm, while still embracing the building's historic architecture, with beautiful wooden rafters and ambient lighting that create a very inviting dining room. We enjoyed several Hong Kong-style dim sum dishes, and everything was tasty. That said, for a place specializing in authentic dim sum, I'd be remiss not to mention the surprising omission of Ha Cheung Fun -- with its silky delicate texture and sweet soy sauce, it's one of the true classics. C'mon guys, it's part of the "Big Three" of dim sum -- Har Gow, Siu Mai, and Ha Cheung Fun! Service was excellent -- our server was wonderful, attentive, and very thorough throughout the meal. A helpful tip many people may not know: there's a large parking lot directly across from the entrance, making parking much easier than it first appears. We were brought here by our friend--also our unofficial Canada food guide--after a fun day of shopping and sightseeing in Niagara Falls. We had a reservation for six at 7:30 PM and were seated promptly. Our server, whose name I unfortunately can't remember, was fantastic. When the guys in our group asked for beer recommendations, he was knowledgeable and even brought them samples to try. I can't list every dish we ordered (we had a lot), so I'll focus on my favorites: Chive Egg Pan-Fried Bun - 10/10. Perfect flavor and texture, not greasy, and with a great bread-to-filling ratio. Cucumber Salad - Refreshing and crisp, a great palate cleanser to balance out the richer dishes. Crispy Noodles - Not overly salty, with just the right amount of sauce so the noodles stayed crisp instead of going soggy. Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings) - A must-order for any dim sum spot. These were generously filled with shrimp, with minimal fillers, a satisfying crunch, and served piping hot. Squid Legs- Nice and lightly sauced. Perfectly cooked so it wasn't too chewy. There were more dishes that I didn't get to try (pescetarian here), but I was thoroughly impressed with the ones I did have. The ambiance was modern and clean--not your typical mom-and-pop Chinese restaurant. It was dimly lit, spacious, and well-kept. I also have to give a special shoutout to the bathrooms, which were some of the nicest I've seen. Each stall was its own private space with a personal sink--unique, private, and super convenient. When my friend told me we were going to a Chinese restaurant in Saint Catherine, my first idea was that it should be a "traditional" Chinese restaurant in North America: Sweet and Sour pork, General Tso Chicken, Chow Mien, etc. I totally did not expect it to be a fancy, modern and authentic Cantonese style restaurant! The restaurant is surprisingly big and very clean. The theme colour is black, which makes the vibe elegant. I also think the dishes are tasty. Some of them were even creative. For example, the fried rice was in a pyramid shape. I don't think there are too many Chinese restaurants with that quality out there in St. Cathrine. Had dinner on Saturday and was able to be seated on bar tops without reservations. What a hidden gem. We ordered Peking duck, fish maw soup, mapo tofu, dim sum (siu mai, you tiao, shrimp rolls). We discovered MA Chinese Cuisine after 2 days in Niagara Falls, Fallsview area. At this point I was deeply disappointed in every meal of our vacation. And then we had dinner at MA Chinese. This may have been the best Chinese food I've ever eaten. We're still raving about it 10 days later. I wish I could find Chinese food this good near me. The hot and sour soup was incredible. I'd love to have the recipe. Heck, I'd love all the recipes. Hong Kong green beans had a fantastic texture and were absolutely delicious. The Moo Shu Pork ... so yummy! First time at Ma's, surprised dim sum quality, same as Toronto China town's standard but minus 2 hours driving. Wow! An unexpected gem at St Catherine's on route to Niagara! The ambiance in this place was really unexpected given the exterior and surrounds but so glad we gave it a chance. It's very elegant and is definitely on the upper scale for Chinese cuisine. We ordered 2 lobsters ($55), duck combo which included the sliced duck with pancakes and a duck veggie stir fry ($88 for both), fried rice, chow mein, squid tentacles, and Chinese brocolli. We were WELL fed for a family for 5 and the bill just came around to ~$280 with tip. Every dish we had was just amazing and so priced so reasonably considering these were very special dishes. I will say, after glancing at some dim sum menu items, they were on the pricier side as they had presentation and such but can not speak to them as we didn't order. There are many options in Toronto for good cheap dim sum but if this is your only option in this area, might be worth a shot. Otherwise, I will definitely be coming back and paying another visit as everything was so well flavoured, portions were amazing, and no dish was left with any food to take back (it was just that tasty!) read more

I decided to go to MA on a Monday thinking it would be slower than the weekend it was but barely. If your goal is to eat here with no plan B make reservations. I got it without a hitch but there were a lot of reservations on the docket. The ambience is excellent better than your average Chinese restaurant a little upscale just a little. The menu is extensive I started with the crispy teriyaki shrimp, hot and sour soup and an order of Xiao Long Bao. The crispy teriyaki shrimp were deep fried dumplings with shrimp. It was like shrimp siu mai that was coated and deep fried ... awesome! The hot and sour soup just like soul food! Made fresh with a perfect balance of vinegar and heat.. must have! The Xiao Long Bao was a let down an order of 4 for $9 was not only overpriced but not up to the standards of this menu. The dumpling was tough and doughy even the look of them was off putting. .. pass these at all cost! Now onto the mains I love the Shanghai noodles here as they are fresh noodles and excellently flavored. The cabbage it crisp to give great contrast to the chewy noodles. Superb! The next item I ordered on a whim.. Moo Shu chicken. It came with 6 small pancakes which are not enough as they give you some much food. Pro tip: order extra pancakes. The chicken and veg wax just awesome.. it was like making Chinese tacos with a drizzle of hoisin. Yum! The decor was great, service was good and the food was plentiful and I had to take some home. WOW! This restaurant has perhaps some of the best Chinese food I have ever had in Ontario. Who would have thought, in St. Catharines of all places! I was thoroughly impressed with all the dishes I ordered from here - and I was even more impressed with how reasonably priced everything I ordered was. The interior is beautiful, and the overall ambiance is quite relaxed. Excellent service too, my server did a great job in recommending to me which dishes to order and not order. He was very friendly. I will say though, the food does take a while to come out, but that's the result of food that's prepared fresh. In other words, the wait is worth it! I was pleasantly surprised to find authentic Chinese cuisine outside the GTA. The decor is upscale and the restaurant was kind enough to let us keep eating a bit past the closing time. I was taking family visiting from out of town to Niagara Falls, so this was a great find in lieu of having to drive back to Toronto. The ability to order dim sum all day is a plus as well. I do wish however, that there was plain tea that could be offered to guests, for those who do not want to purchase the specialty teapots of tea. read more

Pretty legit dimsum for St Catherines. I come from Markham which is Asian food central ... I was super skeptical about this place because its in St Catherines. But after coming here to try out the dimsum ... I can say this place is legit excellent dimsum quality. Very comparable to Markham, Ontario dimsum and prob better then HK. But the dimsum options is semi limited. I MEAN, there is still a good selection but just missing a small few sigature dimsum items such as chicken feet, asian meatball, rice rolls. Overall I give this place a 5 star because service/food/ambiance was excellent. Im sure this ppace gets packed but we came off hours on a weekday. This is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is always fresh and consistently good. I've never had a bad meal. It's spacious and cozy at the same time. My only minor complaint is regarding the cleaner they use to wipe down the table and floors. The dining tables are always sticky. The menus stick to the table. The floor in the upstairs restroom is sticky. Your shoes stick to the tiles. I hope you are able to find a better disinfectant to clean the tables and floors that doesn't leave everything sticky. read more

Ordered take out as we heard the food was amazing. Was told it was pricey and authentic. Ordered a few "safe" dishes, veg chop suey, satay beef, general tsao chicken and mu shoo pork. Was told it would be 25 minutes for pickup. Went early on the safe side to pick up the order. Live 5 minutes away. Food was lukewarm on arrival. Chicken was dry, beef was okay, veg chop suey almost tasteless and best part was the pork. Pancakes were thin and held up but otherwise for a $93.00 charge for the total of 4 dishes, definitely not worth it. Especially if I have to warm up food that should be fresh and piping hot. I arrived around 9:30pm on a Tuesday evening, 30 minutes before closing time, and I was welcome in. It's a large restaurant. People are diligently cleaning up, sweeping the floor. My waiter had been working as a busboy for six month prior, and recently for promoted to his position - he has no idea how to manage and communicate this complex menu that's really more of a magazine. On the seafood page, there are two fish with chili oil. One is at market price, one is at $18.99. The waiter went to ask his manager twice and still couldn't get an answer, but instead directed me to green bass for $50. Look- don't mind spending $50 for good steamed fish - it's kind late - answer my question!!! He also has no idea what Sole is. He thinks it's Sol... Somehow, I think my dish is made with Sole, but when i bit into it, it doesn't taste like Sole. I find out later when I was paying that it's talapia - yuck. I also had a pea sprouts with oyster mushrooms. Also had a weird - side warning that it isn't the cap mushroom on the picture. Cap mushroom? Maybe he means shiitake? If he's serving Chinese, maybe he should learn his menu. So frustrating. Shrimp dumpling seemed to have been frozen and oversteamed. Best Chinese food experience ever! From the ambience, to the restaurant's design, the very nice bathrooms - and how can I forget... the DELICIOUS food. The menu is full of wonderful traditional Chinese dishes, as well as western classics! The tea list is so fun and inspiring, I love the menu and the little details that surely came from someone who appreciates good design (front-end developer / designer in me is truly satisfied with their graphic design). Definitely one of my favourite Chinese restaurant's I in the Niagara region. Atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and the food is top notch. They have some canadinized for those with a light pallet but many of the dishes are traditionally cooked for a great price too. Skip the overpriced establishments near the Falls and just head here and that's coming from a local! The beef came out still sizzling and shows just how much detail they put into their dishes. My first trip here I tried the Lobster and they offer you 5 different ways to cook it. The Efu noodles with the crab was exceptional, I usually hate mushrooms but they had me eating them with regularity when included in the Efu dish. And the food..... We went during the brunch hours where it is all you can eat. You order from a menu of dim sum items as well as other dishes. Don't forget to try the bok choi with garlic, gotta eat your veggies! We enjoyed all the dishes we had, and there many! The dish sizes are not large so you can order different ones to try. This is the best Chinese Resturant in North America. The food is authentic, beautiful and delicious. The Resturant is tastefully decorated, service is outstanding. All food are freshly made the same day. The best fried sesame ball with custard and salted egg york, it's soft inside, crispy outside, with running egg custard with sea salt, a perfect combination! We ordered several things. 1. I always try the Hot and Sour Soup at Chinese restuarants. Ma's was different than others, having more, fresh ingredients, and was easily the best I have had. A tad spicier too. 2. Our Dim Sum was four small buns with beef and garlic inside. They were fried but still soft. Not crisp. Not doughy. Hard to tell they were fried. Delicious. 3. Her choice for a main course was Sweet and Sour pork back ribs. They were delicious, though very different from BBQ ribs, and from the syrupy Sweet and Sour you have come to expect. A bit crispy on the outside. Tender on the inside. There was a lot of meat! 4. The other main course was Moo-Shoo beef. I have had other Moo Shoo just as good, but none better. Not enough pancakes or sauce though. 5. The Oolong tea was good and they gave us one pot of tea, and a larger one of hot water to replenish it. They used tea leaves, not tea bags. Several types of tea were available. Other points: A. Service was good. B. Instead of two bathrooms, M and W, they had about 8 individual-sized ones, that looked new and very clean. C. For anyone with mobility problems, there are a lot of stairs. D. Prices were a bit above normal, but not insanely high (except for Peking Duck). E. For the experimentally-minded, there were a lot of dishes you don't see in normal Chinese takeout, such as "chicken feet", and "fish maw and crab chowder". read more
