My Christian friend and I visited last year. I was gifting him my BC Rich special black electric guitar, but it needed some fixes for it to be nice for him to learn how to play. We brought it in, the workers were very excited about the guitar and said how awesome of a guitar type it is. Left buying a stand for his accoustic guitar. Later on in the week, my Christian friend brought it to them by himself. They had called me stupid and a liar (??) , trying to scam the poor trusting fellow out of money and unecessary repairs obviously. He called me then thankfully and I fixed it myself easily. Like a mechanic eh? I wouldnt trust these guys. Edit To Add Second Review: I brought in my MacBook that had something stuck into the headphone port (a piece of headphone jack). They said it needed to replace the whole Logic Board!! I knew better and went online with all the tips and did it myself in 5 minutes. I would not advise taking an Apple IPad to these people. After paying $30 to wipe my IPad, they said it was ready to go. Got it home and was not working. Ended up taking to a local tech who charged $50 and fixed the problem. Guy told me to bring passwords etc when I picked it up at Maars and he would see that it was good to go. When I went to pick it up. He was not there, counter person playing game on computer and three others standing around laughing like they were having a party. Not a business atmosphere and certainly not concerned with customer satisfaction. Would never go back. read more

Took in an older iMac for a diagnostic and got it back 7 weeks later. I had some concerns about the condition of the iMac when we got it back. When I contacted Maars about my concerns I received a very aggressive email stating that I was lying and the matter was considered closed, and if I pursued it further i would face legal action. I followed up with documentation to address my concerns and was again threatened with legal action and accused of trying to extort the business *do not recommend* read more

Simply put: they're a fair-priced, quick, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly staffed store with a broad selection and wide ranged stock of instruments, parts, accessories, and pretty much everything you might be looking for. It's a tight store but it's organized well enough that you can find everything smoothly. I'm hoping that I'm speaking for musicians who know exactly what they're looking for and/or folks that researched enough to know enough about what they're looking for. The only problem I personally see with the store is that the register is too immediate to the front door which could easily result in a bit of frustration. However, given the shape of the store, I completely understand why the registers are where they are. Maybe I'm just nitpicking. I understand how folks might be intimidated by the store but I don't think it's a big deal; the staff know enough to help everybody out in one way or another. read more

The best Mac repair people you will find. They have provided low cost high quality repairs to my last two generations of MAC/Apple computers. They are knowledgeable and do not price gouge you like virtually every other Apple repair place will. I've also purchased audio equipment and speakers from them too. If your MAC breaks down - take it to them first, you will not be disappointed. I no longer live in Peterborough but when I needed service for my laptop I got it done with them because they were cheaper and better and I was totally happy with the results. They were also extremely patient with all my questions... Anyways nothing but positive things to say about these people... they are very honest, genuine, responsible, and decent, which is rare these days. A++++ read more

I bought my first ever Electric guitar and initially thought that the service was quite good. Staff was eager to show me the different options and walk me through what might work well for me. I found one particular guitar that was on a really great sale but as soon as I started asking more about it and expressing interest, the staff indicated that that particular unit had been around for a while and that it was being sold below their cost and basically to treat it as a used guitar and that I would get zero support for it. At that point, the staff seemed completely dis-interested in me or my purchase. I went over the guitar to make sure everything was good and it fit the bill for what I was looking for, however staff was insistent that because it was below their cost they would offer me no service or guidance whatsoever - even dismissing me when I was asking how to adjust the strings with the locking tuners that came on the unit. I was so taken aback by how cold there support became that I decided to take my business elsewhere for the case, cables, amp, stand and picks I ended up buying elsewhere. So, maybe they did sell the guitar below their cost, but I assume they could've easily made that up with everything else that I have now purchased elsewhere. Good thing there's some other options in town. Sorry folks, but I don't think I'll be back again. Maybe next time consider how you treat your customers no matter what product you're selling in your store, be it a brand new unit (which mine is) or used guitar. Just because you're not making money on the initial purchase doesn't mean you can't make it up elsewhere! All that aside - thanks for my new, first guitar. My trip Maar's music was not based on musical interest but due to their apple certification. My computer suddenly crashed last Wednesday, I called apple and the representative I spoke to, after working out my coverage, recommended me to Maar's for their experience and certification. It has officially been 8 days and I am still computer less. After calling apple care a second time, I learned my computer had not been checked in until 4 days after I dropped it off. When I went to check on my computer in person the technician I spoke to was intimidating and made me feel written off when asking about the status of my computer. I have had extreme difficulty arranging follow ups to check the status of my computer as it is still in repair 8 days later. I, being a busy student, rely on my laptop everyday and was panic stricken when it shut down. My experience at Maar's has done nothing but add stress and heighten my anxiety as I am STILL unaware of when my computer will be returned. If you are a student in a similar situation looking for emergency apple care DO NOT GO HERE! I realize now I should have made the trip to an Apple retail store, the turn around time (in my experience) is much faster and the Genius Bar is customer service oriented. read more
