My husband and I had a 5 month engagement and due to timing/distance, we first met with Reece and Katrina over Skype and they had a wonderful way of setting us at ease and making us feel like friends - a feeling that continued throughout our experiences with them. And, without spoiling the surprises here, along the way they go above and beyond in lots of "little" ways to make you feel like less of a "customer" and more of a friend. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that their wedding packages also include an engagement photo session - something that we probably would not have had done/been able to afford otherwise. The engagement session was a great way for us to get to know them and for them to get to know us BEFORE the big day, something I now see as such a good idea and so important. In preparing for the wedding, there was lots of communication beforehand about what shots were wanted and who all would be involved so that when the wedding day came I felt confident that we were all on the same page and didn't once have to worry about the photographers getting the shots I wanted. Every couple is different and Reece and Katrina have a gift for working with each couple to illuminate their personality and style, as I have seen from their many lovely gallery photos. My husband and I were perhaps not as comfortable or artistic in front of a camera as some, but they worked with us to bring out who we are and I never felt like the photos were forced or contrived. They also have a gift for capturing beautiful images in a wide variety of settings. Our wedding was a traditional church wedding in the city of Vallejo - perfect for us but perhaps not the most picturesque setting - and they captured our day beautifully without letting the confines of the setting be a hindrance to that. The photos from both our engagement and wedding were uploaded to their gallery website in a very timely manner and the site itself is easy to use to manage your photos. We opted to include a professional wedding album in our package and it is gorgeous! When it took a little longer than expected to get our album preview ready for us (something that I had hardly noticed) they automatically upgraded the number of pages in the album at no additional cost to us. After making sure she was in our budget, she scheduled a phone call with me and my husband to discuss what we were expecting and to find out more about our background. We booked her a few months (maybe 6 or so? before our event). A few weeks before our event she touched base with us again with her event information sheet so she could find out the details and timelines of our event and our portrait list. We worked back and forth and she gave us a lot of insight about the process to tell us what was and wasn't feasible (and why) given our event timeline so we could make adjustments to when specific pictures would be taken and when specific things (like cake cutting and toasts) should be arranged since we only booked her for 4 hours and not a full day. The day of JennaBeth came early and prepared and our family portraits went very smoothly. JennaBeth has a great eye for detail. Our friends and family didn't even really notice there was a photographer there. In the end, our portraits came a little bit after the original estimated time frame but the pictures more than made up for the little bit of waiting that we did. Totally worth every penny we spent (which was very reasonable for the quality of the photos). Both of our families and me and my husband were blown away by the pictures we received- my mom can't get over how good they are and she doesn't like most photos! JennaBeth really currated the photos she took and we saw only the best of the best and don't feel like anything was missed. The lighting and mood throughout all of the photos were consistent and amazing - everyone looked great. When we started talking to her and working with her, we were also really excited and impressed by her creativity and the way she collaborated to expand on our vision. We had some amazingly ridiculous ideas for our engagement shoot and she affirmed AND added to them; she showed the eff up, and drove around Oakland with us, props and costumes in tow (she even responded to a drunk photo-bomber with grace and grit :P) We were shocked at how much fun we had! Both of us are kind of allergic to canned/posed photos, and Becca has an amazing balance of making sure our heads were tilted the right way so the composition still looks good, but not giving sooo much direction that it would be super stiff and awkward. We were cracking up at some of her prompts: "Okay so Lizzy, I want your shoulders turned this way but your energy going that way" and honestly, it worked! She knows how to cultivate a really nuanced and connected experience by describing things really specifically but leaving a lot of room for our playful interpretation and authenticity. Communication leading up to the shoot and planning for weather changes as well as location options were timely and thoughtful. We had to work around another photographer at the public site we chose and Chrissy handled the situation with grace and strength. The other photographer and the cheer team of 100 girls+ being shot were not accommodating nor friendly. But we had other options on site which turned out to be fantastic and we still got to shoot that location after that other crew of people moved on. None of my three children were too excited for a photo shoot but Chrissy made it fun and as painless as could be for them. Now my wife and I have photos that capture this stage in life for our family. We will cherish these photos/memories forever.
