From the very beginning, they were incredibly knowledgeable, talented, professional, and genuinely easy to work with. Planning a DIY wedding comes with plenty of stress, but Toan was hands down our easiest and favorite vendor throughout the entire process. Neither of us is naturally comfortable in front of a camera, but Toan has an incredible eye and knows exactly how to direct and pose you. He gave us simple, clear guidance that made us feel relaxed and confident, and somehow made even the least photogenic person look like a natural model. The entire experience felt fun instead of awkward. His photography speaks for itself. The photos are absolutely stunning and capture every moment so beautifully. His work is so strong that the images barely need any editing--they're timeless, natural, and simply breathtaking. Every photo feels like a work of art, and we know we'll treasure them for the rest of our lives. We also really appreciated how honest, flexible, and accommodating Toan was throughout the process. He frequently offered packages and special deals, which we were incredibly grateful for. Booking, scheduling, billing, and communication were always seamless, and we never ran into a single issue. On our wedding day, Toan and his team made us feel completely at ease during one of the biggest and most emotional days of our lives. They were calm, organized, and knew exactly how to keep everything running smoothly while capturing every special moment. His craftsmanship is worth every penny. After working with him, we completely understand why he's so highly rated throughout the Bay Area. If you're considering Toan Photography, don't hesitate--you'll be investing in an amazing experience and memories you'll cherish forever. Thank you, Toan and your team, for exceeding every expectation!

He perfectly blended into the environment and helped the big moment feel natural. In addition, working with Alex was great. I was a bit apprehensive since I had never hired a photographer before, but he made the process very easy. He responded to my inquiry right away, and we got on a call the next day to finalize the details. It was just one less thing to worry about leading up to the big day! The photos were delivered ahead of schedule and I couldn't be happier about how they turned out.

From the very beginning, Alex was so easy to communicate with and made the entire process feel comfortable and exciting. We started with a Zoom call where Alex took the time to really get to know us as a couple, and understand how we envisioned our photos. We talked about locations, poses, shot lists, and the overall style we were looking for. Alex created a shared planning document and text group chat where we could collaborate on different locations, and ideas, which made us feel very involved and prepared. Our engagement session was SO much fun! Alex made us feel comfortable right away and kept the session fun and natural. He also timed our shoot perfectly so we could capture the most beautiful sunset photos. The lighting was absolutely gorgeous, and we couldn't have asked for better engagement pictures! Our wedding day was even more amazing. Alex arrived about an hour early, which gave him time to capture all the beautiful details of our venue before everything got started. Throughout the day, he captured so much more than just posed photos. He photographed the little details, our family and friends, the food, the venue, the reception, and all of the fun candid moments that we may have otherwise missed. He was able to capture the emotions and energy of the day so beautifully. We are so grateful we chose Alex and would 100% recommend him to anyone looking for a talented, professional, and genuinely fun photographer. We absolutely love our photos and will cherish them forever!

His communication was clear and responsive, and he was very patient with me no matter how many emails it took! Staging the surprise was actually a lot simpler than I expected--they ask you for some basic information as to how you're planning to do it. On the day of, I was nervous if things were going to fall into place, but Annie, our photographer, shared her location with me and arrived early in just the spot I wanted. She was also wonderful to work with--her photography and editing skills are great and even though we never really posed for photos before, she made it easy for us. She even had the presence of mind to turn us away from family members who were coming from behind to surprise us. We received a few photos the night of the proposal to share with friends and then the rest of the photos after a quick turnaround. We were very happy with how they turned out and appreciative of Annie's great work!

They were the first vendor we booked after securing our venue, so we got to know them over the course of the year leading up to our wedding in August 2025. After coming across their photos when researching different potential photographers that had experience at our venue, we were very interested in meeting them. We had an initial video call with them and knew immediately that we wanted to book them for such a critical part of our wedding journey. There aren't enough words to describe how skilled and professional they are--they are amazing photographers (individually and as a duo) and clearly love what they do. Our proposal photoshoot was the only prior experience we had in terms of taking professional photos as a couple. We met them in person for the first time at our engagement photoshoot--they immediately made us feel comfortable and were seriously thoughtful about the entire process, whether it was the location choices, minute-by-minute weather changes/forecast, outfit changes, etc. It really feels like they plan for everything and care about the little details. When we asked them about another vendor they would potentially work with on the day of our wedding, they even referenced notes they made when they had worked with them for a prior wedding. Throughout the whole process, they were prompt communicators (frequently responding to an email within minutes!) and guided us with experience and patience that we really appreciated. Whenever we had something to discuss with them (including choices we needed to make as a couple), they never hesitated to give us suggestions and feedback. Even if they offered an alternative suggestion to an idea of ours, it always felt like they genuinely cared and they wanted what we wanted, and it never felt like criticism. We received our wedding photos just about 2 months after our wedding, and we love every single one of them (all 667)! They are truly the best photographers to work with and just lovely people to be around. We definitely plan to keep in touch with them for future photoshoots! :) TL;DR: You should have booked A Tale Ahead Photography yesterday!!

Denise is phenomenal and she surrounds herself with a team that is professional, considerate and competent. There were a fair amount of questions I had to answer about which photos we wanted and this made me feel at ease knowing that the team would make sure I got all the photos I wanted for my special day. I ordered a boudoir photo package in addition to the wedding photos and video. The boudoir photo shoot was an incredible experience and Denise made me feel incredibly at ease and sexy as hell. I got the proofs and was able to view them in the studio - this was a special day and it was helpful having another set of eyes and also someone there to help me not be so critical of myself!! The final result was a book of photos of me feeling sexy, confident and amazing. My husband sat, mouth open, carefully going through each page and I felt like the most beautiful girl in the world. On our wedding day there were absolutely ZERO ISSUES. When Denise arrived, I breathed a sigh of relief, she took care of everything. I was confident that the pictures were going to be exactly what I wanted and then some. Overall, my experience with Modern Love was beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of. They know how to take incredible photos and have done a lot of training to ensure that they are getting photos that you not only see as visually beautiful but photos that make you feel something, photos that make you experience and witness the beauty and magic of a moment. Thank you Denise and all of Modern Love for an incredible day!!

This is honestly a hard review for me to write. I did love Denise and her personality, and I loved…read moremy engagement shoot that I did with Katie. But my wedding shoot was extremely, so extremely disappointing. We opted not to have a videographer and told people not to take pictures during the ceremony, so I'm just left with sad pictures( or the lack of pictures I guess). For starters, the photographers were 45 minutes late. I heard there was a lot of traffic, and I wonder if this is the first thing that threw everything off. We initially signed a contract for Denise and Katie as the second shooter, but we found out that Katie was promoted as a main photographer, so there was a new guy. The second photographer was nice but pretty useless. You could tell which photos he shot, and they were pretty poor. He did the groomsmen getting ready, but all of the photos are just close ups. The guys did a pillow fight (tradition with his friends), and every single one of them is just a close up of a man holding a pillow. Also, one of the reasons we chose the venue was due to its interior, and I spent a lot of time looking at wedding photos done inside the building. I remember asking for photos in the hallway and taking a bunch, but I didn't see any. I was told they couldn't shoot properly in there because of the lighting. I'm not sure why all the other photographers from that venue were able to get pictures, but I couldn't. We ended up with a handful of portraits, many of them disappointing because either my hair is blowing all over my face or my husband couldn't keep a straight face. We spent a good portion of our decorating budget on flowers, but I don't have a single photo of my centerpieces. My florist asked to add them to my portfolio, but I didn't have any to offer her. The biggest, most disappointing issue is that there are zero pictures of the whole wedding party, and I don't have a single photo of the whole family. How did that escape people? I wasn't keeping track of each photo, and I really expected the photographers to do that. I don't have one with just my parents or with my sister, who was my maid of honor. These pictures were things I just took for granted. It definitely wasn't because we ran out of time because between the ceremony and reception, I was just sitting around in my room for about 45 minutes. Aside from Denise's personality,  I was extremely disappointed with the whole day.  I even tried to get a refund for the "trash the dress" session I had also purchased and was met with a refusal. They did refund us for the cost of a second photographer though. To this day, I get really sad seeing other great wedding photos and for years thinking about it could bring me to the verge of tears. That being said, obviously I survived and I did absolutely love my wedding. I still have beautiful memories of my wedding, and I'm happily married with a gorgeous kiddo. I just wish I had some photos too.
