The line work was inconsistent, shading was poorly blended, and the overall result did not reflect the quality shown on his page. When I reached out privately to address my concerns, I was hoping for professionalism and resolution. Instead of taking accountability or offering any form of constructive conversation, I was blocked. Being blocked for respectfully expressing dissatisfaction speaks volumes. As clients, we invest not only money but trust and permanence into tattoos. Mistakes can happen -- but how an artist handles feedback is what truly defines their professionalism.

When I had my consult, Kevin came prepared with ideas, he used his tablet to take photos of the location, lay out the plan, and create a great piece. As far as the actual work went... I was overwhelmed with how smoothly it went and the final look. I've also never worked with an artist that had such a good touch. The healing time was better than any of my previous half dozen pieces. He was also very open to suggestions that I offered and had good counter suggestions to do what I was looking for. Derek is friendly, creates a comfortable atmosphere, and is extremely professional from the moment you meet him through the actual tattoo process. The studio is clean, and Derek also spends time cleaning everything before you sit down. For me, I was surprised tattooing didn't hurt as much as I expected, but that also is part of Derek's technique. It does take a while to get an appointment as he is booked solid a year out. But this is a good thing--it means that Derek takes what he does seriously and he's got the clientele that appreciates that; if you want a walk-in-type tattoo, you are not going to get that kind of work here. I lucked into a cancellation, especially as my tattoo was on the smaller side (remember, first tattoo).
